** EGYPT. 9311.5 approx., July 23 at 0205, R. Cairo humroar spur centered around
here at S8 but audible down to 9306, while fundamental 9315.0 is S8. Tho close
this time, the two blobs making the same sound are distinct with a dip between
them. This would be the English sesquihour to North America if they were able to
modulate it with programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
**
NORTH AMERICA. UNIDENTIFIED: 6976.0-AM, July 23 at 0201 & still 0218, JBA
carrier vs S9 peaks of storm noise. No logs of it today on Free Radio Café or HF
Underground, but searching
on
6976 finds many previous pirates this year on 6976 or plus (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** OKLAHOMA. 780, July 23 at 0232 UT, KSPI open carrier
is still on with dead air, making fast SAH with WBBM audible if I null
Stillwater, where the sun officially sets in July at 0145 UT (August: 0115 UT)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF
RADIO 1835 monitoring: NOT confirmed, Friday July 22 after 2130 on WRMI 15770,
but instead Studio DX in Italian. Checking the webskedgrid, it`s official, tho
without notice to me (Wavescan at 2100 has also been replaced by something
else). But WOR is still VG Friday July 22 after 2130.5 on WRMI, 13695. There
remains one WOR airing toward Europe, Tuesdays 2130 on 15770. Also confirmed S9
after 2330 Friday July 22 at 2348 on WBCQ, 9329.863-CUSB. Next:

** U S A. 7490-AM, July 23 from 0012 for the
next sesquihour, listened to most of `Allan Weiner Worldwide` live on WBCQ. Says
he is also on 5130 and 3250; I can get a weak signal on 5129.9 but nothing yet
on 3250. Reminisces about his adventures with the m/v Sarah, since this is the
twenty-ninth anniversary today of when the ship hit the fan, FCC/FBI bust after
four broadcasts. His fellow pirate J. P. is in the studio, off-mike for some
comments. Rest of the hour, girlfriend Pam sings some songs accompanying on
ukulele, culminating with ``Amazing Grace`` past 0100 hourtop as Allan joins in.
Then Allan reads an editorial by The Wandering Engineer in trade journal
Radiomagazine advocating for low-power AMs being allowed 1.6-3 MHz with easy
licensing, 10 watts to 30-foot vertical (like TIS), enough to cover a small town
or a large neighborhood.
Allan says the LPFM in Skowhegan ME, on 98.1
which TimTron helped to build, is doing well after a year, and really gets out
with only 2.5 watts from ``TimTron`s mountain``. (WTFDA database shows it`s
WXNZ-LP running only 2.4! watts but 202 meters above average terrain, ``Hooskow
Radio`` with variety format.)
Then to Q&A from e-mail. Why did Allan
choose ``William Tell Overture`` for his theme? Just because it`s invigorating
and he likes it. J.P. gave him the record, but they are unsure which version,
maybe London Symphony Orchestra.
WBCQers are gathering in Monticello for
a party tomorrow, and J. P. will be doing `Shortwave Saturday Night` from WBCQ
itself, allowing him to go out on UStream video, from 22 UT, also 7490.
Benedixion at 0132; ID at 0135 and back to BS on 7490.
One more try to
hear 3250 at 0137, if it`s still on: well, there is some very weak music on
3251.323; is that it? At 0200 I`ve switched from the R75 to the NRD545 but
nothing now on 3251+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

17775, July 22 at 2029, I find KVOH Spanish evangelism still on the air a
sesquihour past usual closing at 1900*; recheck at 2055, now it`s off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, July 23 at 0210, WTWW-3
is still on with another hour of PPPP nonsense, S7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** U S A. 7505, July 23 at 0214 check, WRNO is off
again tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 850, July
23 at 0228 UT, very nice organ music, from NE/SW, way over KOA baseball, barely
audible if I null this: obviously KFUO, which tho a daytimer may remain on till
Denver sunset. 0230 UT sign-off says KFUO, Clayton-St Louis MO, 5000 watts, 850,
and standard disclaimer by LCMS, referring us to streaming for more, off 0231*.
Indeed, 0230 UT is KOA official FCC June-July sunset, tho as a 50 kW U1 station
they may ignore it; August moves KFUO up to 0200* UT. (KOA also has a 10 kW ND
U1 auxiliary/backup transmitter at another site, 30 minutes further north and 11
minutes further west; it sounds weak enough to be that now). (Glenn Hauser, OK,

UNIDENTIFIED. 1330+ & 1350-, July 23 at 0223 UT,
again hearing the mushy spurs against 1330 & 1350 stations, no doubt out of
some 1340 outlet halfway between: this time on the DX-398, I DF them as close to
east/west from here. So let`s look at the nearest ones along that axis:
KJMU
Sand Springs OK
(but I think it is silent; never hear it anyway on daytime
groundwave)
KSEK Pittsburg KS
KADI Springfield MO
KFMD Bethel Heights
AR
KVOT Taos NM (none closer to the west)
