Glenn Hauser logs March 31, 2021

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, March 31 at 1534 tune-in via Brasília SDR, another Wednesday, another LRA36, only S1-S3 with music, 1537 announcement, stops at 1538, off? No, just a pause, more rap music which we hardly need from Base Esperanza, stops at 1551* and still off by 1555 without despedida or any talk. It seems they always chop themselves off at widely variable times: an hour later last week. Or do they just run until transmitter craps out by itself? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BOLIVIA. 3310, March 31 at 0155, Andean music, only broadcast signal on 90m besides WWCR and CHU. It`s Radio Mosoj Chaski. First I make sure the audio match neither KGWA nor KCRC, my two locals which for many years ganged up to block 3310 (2 x 960 + 1390), both of which are talkers, but with occasional musical bridges. That mixing product fortuitously cleared up several years ago AFAIK, but I`m always apprehensive about it.

This rates S7-S9, my best chance at Mosoj in a long time. No doubt I could hear it better via a remote, but I`ve long wanted to log this direct. Maybe I`ll check that another night to compare behaviour. The music at tune-in is vocal; at 0158 there is an announcement I cannot recognize as Spanish, so likely Quechua; 0159 another song; 0200 announcement with music mix.

At 0201 all that stops, replaced by a big hum/whine. Compared on my keyboard, pitch is about G# or Ab below Cmiddle, i.e. 208 Hz or so. I figure it`s signed off and quit feeding the STL, while the SW transmitter remains on relaying the noise filling the STL transmission. This continues without a break until transmitter off finally at 0210.5*

Among others, Manuel Méndez in Spain often reports RMCh, as does Robert Wilkner in Florida, predominantly in the hour or two before 0200. One recent log by Bob ended at 0211 but not as a sign-off, nor any mention of the tone. MM just heard it last night: ``BOLIVIA, 3310, Radio Mosoj Chaski, Cotapachi, 0118-0131, 30-03, Bolivian songs, Quechua, comments. 25322.``

Our obs contradict WRTH 2021 with sked as 09-13 & 21-01; 10 kW from Cochabamba, not Cotapachi/Cotapaxi, with website mosochaski.org which is wrong, the j is required: https://www.mosojchaski.org/en/ According to that, live broadcasts are at 5:00-8:30 am and 5:30-9:30 pm, which at UT -4 yearound means 0900-1230 & 2130-0130. Must vary.

``Mosoj Chaski was founded in 1999 as a short-wave Christian radio station to reach the Quechua people who are scattered across Bolivia. Mosoj Chaski, which in Quechua means ¨The New Messenger¨, was started by missionaries from SIM, New Tribes Mission and Pioneers International, along with like-minded Bolivian nationals.``

SIM originally meant Sudan Interior Mission, the founders of ELWA Liberia. ``Sudan`` once had a connotation well into west Africa beyond present-day Sudan. Mali was previously colonized as French Sudan, then part of French West Africa, AOF (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11745, March 31 at 1830, Firedragon jammer S7-S9 with deep fading, against nothing, but RFA in Chinese via Kuwait is scheduled this hour only. No sign of Sa`udi AFRS `Al-Azm` either, but even without the jammer this would be a mess in target. Still past 1846. Meanwhile I check the 11.0 and 13.0 MHz areas but still no sign of any ChiCom jammers, CNR1 or FD (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6000, March 31 at 0058, RHC English has just popped on, now // 6165 which has already been running an hour. A minute or two earlier checking 6000, only had some very weak Qur`aning, as Iran in Tajik is scheduled 0050-0220. Via TWR Bonaire SDR, which is not responsible for Islamic or Commic content it forward (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN. 9835, March 31 at *1920:45, VIRI English chops on with program in progress, discussion of Jeffery Epstein and sex trafficking. Then I check // 9855 and find it much stronger S8 into UTwente SDR. 1923 ID as ``Voice of Islamic Republic of Iran broadcasting``, schedule as ``1920-2020 UT on 6040, 11880`` --- which are the defunct B-20 channels: what do they know? Music fill depriving us of standard opening in other languages, anthem and Qur`an! 1929 a different ID, ``IRIB English Radio, coming up, the news``.

1930 three upward chimes, theme, and news headlines starting with Hezbollah in Lebanon calling on Sa`udi Arabia to stop the war against Yemen. 1934 changes to commentary about the Iran Nuclear Deal and how Biden is not getting anywhere --- complete with music stinger SFX.

May I point out that the very name of the country and thus the station is a Big Lie? Islamic and Republic are mutually exclusive, i.e. of god, and of the people --- can`t be both, and we know who`s really in charge, minority people who say they represent a god (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11530 & 11540, March 31 at 1456, poor signals on both, which implies as nothing else listed, one is Dengê Welat via France, and the other is the Turkish jammer, named in Aoki as ``TRT Radio Recep Erdoğan``, but certainly not what it call itself; i.e. missing its target, which shifts back and forth between 11530 & 11540, also when via Pridnestrovye.

BTW the curve over the g means it`s pronounced as h: ``The correct pronunciation of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkish can be phonetically transcribed as Reh-jep Tah-yeep Err-doh-han, as heard in the audio file. The most important element in pronouncing Erdoğan correctly is to remember that letter "ğ" must be pronounced as "h"``: https://www.pronounceitright.com/pronunciation/recep-tayyip-erdogan-4782 No, it`s like w, per this; o my, which are we to believe?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJEJItHXmJU Reason enough for his term to be -inated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN [and non]. 17855, March 31 at 1825 & 1913 chex, still zero signal from REE to N America, direct or via Virginia, UTwente SDRs. Here, 15520 and 11940 are JBA; further east 11940 is in silly ballgame anyway. Only signal here on 16m is 17530 VOA Grimesland, JBA in very poor propagation. Also checked ex-9690, not there either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 9410, March 31 at 1500, last few notes of Yankee Doodle Dandy, i.e. VOA signing off but S8-S9 carrier stays on a while. It`s Korean via Tinang, PHILIPPINES scheduled 1400-1500 only, further aimed USward.

Remember when 9410 was an exclusive BBCWS/GOS English OOB frequency, only from domestic site? Still also used by BBC but only relays, in various languages, and not continuously, e.g. before this VOA hour in Bengali via Sri Lanka; after it, English via Oman. Other sites per Aoki employed sometime during the 24 are UAE, Vatican, São Tomé, Singapore, Ascension; in: Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Hausa. Taiwan and China also squeeze in, seemingly well-coördinated time segments (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2079 monitoring, next:
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier survey, March 31 from 0141: not every single 9-kHz carrier this time, but of note: no 531 Algeria or 621 Canary which used to be staples, yet 612 Morocco? and 891-Algeria. We expect them all to be 24 hours, but maybe not. Also noted are 1215, two on 1305. And one on 1431 which is surely the 600 kW VOA Djibouti on the east coast of Africa, as otherwise there are only a few very low power in Europe, max 5 kW in Italy. Around 0530, 531 and 621 can now be detected (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 30-31, 2021

** COSTA RICA [non]. Berny Solano2 of `Mundo Sorprendente` asks me to spread the word that because of pandemic restrixions, he has not yet been able to send out all the calendars and QSLs; BTW, my packet arrived by registered mail, so I had to stand in line behind a maskless Enidiot coughing --- she says, ``just allergy``. Berny:

** CUBA. 6060, March 30 at 0644, RHC English not only with humbuzz but is also pulsing, worsening it more. // 6100 is OK, 6165 is undermodulated, 6000 is off; and at 0649, 5040 is still on but in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 11880, March 30 at 2309, RHC is NOT in English but Kriyol! English hour at 23-24 had been on 11880 & 5040 since Yanqui DST start March 14. And now 5040 is in Spanish, not English either.

15730, March 30 at 2309, I first found Kriyol on this reactivated, S9 but distorted and modulation crackling, then found // on L&C 11880. Talking about Haïti, Duvalier. RHC scheduling is SNAFU! What else?

13650, March 30 at 2306, the only Cuban active on this band now, no 13680 or 13740; still pointless CRI Portuguese relay filled with Chinese music, and considerable CCI from R. Japan direct backward in Thai. On 19m, RHC trace on 15230, no 15370, but 15730 as above.

9650, 11670, 11760, March 30 at 2314, RHC Spanish mainstream, but 11850 and parasites 11840 & 11860 are off. Separate Spanish, `Mesa Redonda` TV soundtrack this hour, on VG 11950 but with crosstalk, // JBM 6000 at 2313.

6000 is off by 0007 March 31, rather than English which has already started on 6165. Multiple somethings wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN. 9835 & 9855, March 30 at 1930, VIRI with news in American English, COVID stats, etc. New A-21 frequencies for 1920-2020 English, both good into UTwente, but 9855 has an additional rustling sound. So English remains on SW. Meanwhile, still uncertainty about some other languages on SW: French missing, but Spanish resumed? Not the *2350 broadcast, nothing into Bonaire on 9620 or 7325 at 0002 check March 31 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, March 30 at 2147, I remember to check REE`s alleged N American frequency, which yesterday lasted only one hour+, *1755-1900*. Not a trace of it now direct, nor via VA SDR after 2200. 15520 to ME is JBA, which means the MUF is lowered, so 17855 could be on but not propagating at all. That leaves 11940 to S America which would have been second-best here, but now is first-best, fair and sufficient. At 2204 via VA SDR, if it`s Tuesday, Ladino music, long `Emisión Sefarad` announcement and more nice music after 2216.

Earlier, Richard Langley, agrees on the WOR iog: ``Today (30 March) here in NB noted REE only on 15520 kHz and 11940 kHz (weak) at around 2040 UT -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SRI LANKA. 11755, March 30 at 1610, S Asian song, S7-S9 and fluttery on a frequency mostly vacant. It`s AWR Trinco in Urdu, the only thing ever scheduled, at 1600-1630 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, March 30 at 2203, VOT English to N America, first checked via UTwente, only a trace under RTTY even over there until RTTY stops at 2204; into Virginia SDR, it`s S9-S7 without the RTTY. Recheck direct to here at 2303, 9830 is still on in spurious German, VP. Still going at 2327 but gone at next check 2333. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 9615, March 30 at 1612, S7-S8 in Korean; at first seemed tonal, but ``imnida`` giveaways. 입니다 is a very common word in KK, yet google translate does not recognize it, tries to make it Indonesian. A basic search on the Romanized word leads to explanation that it merely means ``is``. Anyhow, this is BBC via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 1530-1830. 21-degree azimuth carries right on into North America as a bonus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 227-MCW kHz, March 30 at 0643 UT, ND beacon TNZ, which is 25 watts from Walnut Ridge / Lawrence County, Arkansas, just south of Pocahontas, in the NE corner. This is a *new* one for me, increasingly hard to find vs all the oldies I usually skip relogging.

This also reminds me that altho my first log of POH on 428 kHz, the highest-frequency MW beacon in the Conterminous, was correctly attributed to IOWA, a later one in December was mistakenly put in Arkansas! Pocahontas, IA is NW of Fort Dodge (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6159.93, March 30 at 2313, Area 61 on WBCQ with Jean Shepherd on German cockroaches` rapid breeding. Yes, the `Old Time Radio` block is now for two hours starting at 2300 UT Mon-Thu, one hour on Fridays; and always Jean Shepherd first, as in this week`s lineup, which still says 0000 UT as if before DST shift: http://zappahead.net/#2021-0329-area61 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15745-15750-15755, March 30 at 1607, WINB hybrid DRM noise succeeds reactivated A-season frequency today unlike yesterday; tonal in the lower half with still unknown content or purpose (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re my remark about prolonged offfrequenciness of WKVQ 1540.200, "...Whatever became of a major FCC monitoring post in GA, Powder Springs? ..." --- Greg Hardison, now in CA, replies:

``Glenn, you may have been with us, were you not?, when we toured the Powder Springs facility during the 1978 National Radio Club Convention in Atlanta. I seem to recall R390s, at least one R388, and other venerable boat-anchors of that ilk, whilst drooling uncontrollably! Not long ago I scoured the area via Google SatView, which as I recall was a mile or so south of Powder Springs Rd., not far from the present WDWD/590 and WAZX/1550 xmtr sites. I saw plenty of newish development on what used to be pig farms during my childhood, but no signs of the FCComplex, which covered several acres back in the day. I applied unsuccessfully to the FCC at age 18; at that time the Allegan [MI] facility was used for training purposes, among other usage. I did find Google-directed e-thread concerning the overall subject here - but beware, some of the posters seem to have issues with apparent drug use: https://groups.google.com/g/rec.radio.cb/c/Yd1L5ZxVjqs

That '78 meetup was perhaps the most tour-centric in NRC history. Besides the FCC, we also saw both studios and transmitter for WSB/750, and the Shepherds Lane FM/TV "candleabra", shepherded by then-WBIE owner Jim Wilder, thanks to Karl Jeter. My own contribution was arranging a quick look at the Turner-satellite uplink for WTCG (later WTBS), off in what used to be the woods behind Cumberland Mall -- nowadays gone and replaced by rampant development. Ahhh, my twisted days of Youth!...``

I don`t remember seeing that FCC station; only the one by Grand Island, Nebraska (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN [non]. 11900, March 30 at 2314, 1 kHz tone causes me pause; 2315 hymnic ditty and opening Vietnamese: it`s Vatican Radio via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES, a semisesquihour violating Separation of Church and State, S7-S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6205, March 31 at 0005, NO signal from ROCV into Bonaire SDR; now what? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 383-MCW kHz, March 30 at 0634 UT, JBA ND beacon, two-letter ID, first letter definitely H, second not positive but maybe W. None such listed on 383-385 in dxinfocentre.com, so I check more comprehensive classaxe.com --- on 385 there is 100 watt HV at Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands, but I can`t imagine getting that, so far only reported from AZ, CA and OR. V of course is ...- while W is .-- What else? Nothing closer than that; something miskeying? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 30, 2021

** CANADA. 2598-USB, March 30 at 0224 UT, marine weather in English by roboyl, S6 = band noise level and unreadable beyond language ID, from NL area. 0230 recheck after the other goes off, now this one in French.

2749-USB, March 30 at 0224 UT, stronger CCG marine weather channel from NS area, S8 vs S5 noise level. In French but reading a ``déclaration`` rather than wx info; what`s that about? Stops at 0229*.

Do these stations shift sked according to local DST or not? If so, does https://dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm take that into account? Going by skeds there, at these UT hours, I have been listening to: 2598: VOJ-6, Port-aux-Basques NL, 400 watts starting at 0207, EE/FF 2749: VAR-9, Yarmouth (Halifax) NS, 1200 watts from 0140, EE/FF

One might compare info at Canadian Coast Guard and EiBi sites but have not yet done so. In the spring I am glad to be getting them this well without much Blitz, confined to the Gulf coast between LA and FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, March 30 at 0240, RHC Spanish still with humbuzz on this transmitter. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

6165, March 30 at 0242, RHC English undermodulated, SAWA, yet splashing over 6160 where WBCQ is absent, but would be QRMed. Wonder if they will ever go back to 5130, where meanwhile real pirates sometimes show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6125, March 30 at 0156, wall-of-noise jamming against nothing, since R. Marti has moved back to 5980 for the A-21 season. But the DentroCuban Jamming Command is too dumb just to look at the publicly posted HFCC schedules, which RM follows strictly. So RM is L&C on 5980 at 0156, no jamming audible, altho later in night we do hear some jamming against nothing [jaman?] on 5980, and right now there is light pulse jamming on 6080 against nothing, from a single transmitter apparently leaping from 5980 over 6030 where there is heavy multiple jamming as usual vs RM. The 5980, 6030 and 6125 situations remain the same at 0238 recheck.

On 41 mb, more jaman at 0254 on 7355, 7345, while RM is really unjammed L&C on 7365 & 7335, BTW with a report about Myanmar.

Not to set the jammers straight, but here is the A-21 scheduling of RM on the bottom bands; note OFF the air 04-10, no jamming needed!

5980 M-F 22-03 Tu-Sa -- forget about R. Chaski except weekends
6030 00-04 & 10-12 daily as are all the rest
7335 22-04 & 10-14
7345 17-02 NOT specified as DRM tho it always has been
7365 00-03 & 12-14
7435 03-04 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 770, March 30 at 0242 UT, ``Fórmula Financiera`` mentioned and 0243 ``Grupo Fórmula, Monterrey, 7-70 AM``, QRM from another SS, hard to separate from SSW, probably Fresnillo. The mountain king station is XEACH. I thought condx were somewhat auroral, but K-index at 03 is zero, no storms (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 6186, March 30 at 0152, XEPPM has slight QRM from a double-blip every four seconds exactly, about 1 kHz above 6185. Lasts a while, but not there at 0243 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7395-USB, March 30 at 0252, two-way in unID language, JBA, not Spanish, maybe Slavic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 880, March 30 at 0335 UT, Mexmx is dominant over KRVN, soon ID as ``La Tremenda 8-80 --- La Raza``; loops NE/SW. That makes it WIJR, Highland IL (St Louis MO mkt), nominally U4 1700/160 watts. Both day and night patterns aim thisaway: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WIJR&service=AM&h=N (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1540.200v, March 30 at 0302 UT, tell-tale het still here against 1540.00 stations, WKVQ Eatonton GA. Whatever became of a major FCC monitoring post in GA, Powder Springs? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1319.720, March 30 at 0322 UT, MW bandscan encounters another intriguing way-off-frequency het like 1540-. Wavers slightly and can`t make out any mod; loops E-W-ish vs some sports station, and vs Black Information Network, new identity of KXYZ Houston. OK`s KCLI Clinton has been slightly off-frequency for ages but not this much. Aha, mwoffsets has a recent answer: `` 1319.717 WCOG r:WTOB (Greensboro, NC) 2021-03-16`` Does r:WTOB mean it relays that 980 station in Winston Salem, also the address of WCOG? It`s U4 5/5 kW; night pattern supposed to go SE, day pattern SW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 30 at 0257: 585, 612, 621, 639(2), 684, 693, 747, 774(2), 855(2), 891, 999, 1098, 1107, 1125, 1152, 1215 kHz. 747 is interesting, no superpowers in Europe beyond 25 kW Canary Islands, if not 100 kW Iran. Lately am not hearing much from 531 Algeria even when 891 is in; something changed? I thought condx were somewhat auroral, but K-index at 03 is zero, no storms (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 800, March 30 at 0337 UT, open carrier over CKLW, but not KQCV OKC heard from that direxion while this is SW/NE-ish, suspect XEROK CiJz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BONAIRE. ``Hi Glenn… in your post “International MWDX to Enid OK, March 22-28, 2021” to the NRC-AM group, you suggested that they “must be deliberately attenuating it, understandably” on the Kiwi SDR.

Indeed -- hovering your mouse on the blue “TWR Bonaire” tab at the top of the waterfall display, a message on a longer yellow tab comes up: “TWR Bonaire PJB3 - 30dB notch filter on 800kHz to prevent receiver overload.” 73, Randy Stewart, Battlefield MO`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Berny Solano sent beautiful large-format 2021 calendar portraying the trees of CR, ÁRBOLES MÁGICOS, put out by the foundation of the same name, http://www.arbolesmagicos.org It`s almost a foot square, 14.34 x 14.34 cm. Berny had offered this for all reports on his `Mundo Sorprendente` holiday special, along with QSL card also enclosed, for 24 Dec 2020 at 01-02 on WRMI 7780. https://www.w4uvh.net/MundoSorprendente_front.jpg https://www.w4uvh.net/MundoSorprendente_back.jpg As scanned here, or Nos. 119 & 120 via: http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html

Tnx, Berny! His show is originally on TIRCR, 930, 5 kW in San José. WRTH 2021 shows a dagger next to it, without explanation, unlike double-dagger which means inactive. Only on faraway page 659 do we find that single-dagger means: irregular. Is it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN. 7325 & 9620, March 29 from 2350 past 2400+, zero signals from VIRI in Spanish, checked via Virginia and Bonaire SDRs, despite A-21 registrations there for Latin America thru end of October. Meanwhile AER posted on ForoDX another notification from station that SW would be ceasing as of March 29:

Not crying wolf, this time they really mean it. However Wolfgang Bueschel confirmed some other languages, at least Albanian and Hausa, were still SW airing today.

For the record, in case any further checking be done, A-21 Spanish:
0720-0820 15440 17815
2020-2120 7375 9665
2350-0120 7325
2350-0250 9620

And English evidently continues:
1520-1620 7410
1920-2020 9835 9855
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, new A-21 North American frequency of REE was AWOL on first day of season March 28, so I am QRX for it March 29, supposed to start at 1800 M-F. Monitoring via Virginia SDR at first: *1755 with IS at S5, at 1756 powered up to S9. At 1803 to my own R75 deeper in NAm, it`s S8/9+10. I plan to check it at least hourly this afternoon to find how long it last or when it fade out; by 1843 has weakened to S9-S7, fading. It`s roughly equal to 15520 to ME, off the back to us but which is not fading down; better than 11940 to S America.

Oh2, at 1857 check, 17855 keeps cutting off and on the air, and stays off after 1900 --- never to be heard again; nor on ex-9690. So that transmitter is upacting again wherever it may be. Still off at 1930 even into Virginia. At 2200 when it`s the new earlied time for token English, we have no choice but backward 15520, which is still S9+10 into VA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2079 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday March 29 at 0230 on WRMIs: 7780, S9, after ID and music bit; 5800 S9+10/20.

Checking what`s going on at our former A-season time, 0300 UT Mondays on WBCQs: 6159.93 still with white-racist `Herald of Truth` which was moved here because 7490 had to go off at 0430 for WHRI at least on weekdays, not any more; but now WBCQ 7490+ is still going with TOMBS. So maybe we are stuck at 2200 Sundays in the summer daytime.

Also, via UTwente SDR, confirmed on IRRS 7290 presumed Bulgaria, Monday March 29 from 1800:47, modulation cutting on after the WOR theme has started, very loud and overmodulated. Atop CCI from CNR Chinese which causes a slow SAH, scheduled to quit at 1805* but I`m late for lunch and don`t keep listening. Presumably intact, WOR concluding at 1829:36 without chop, IRRS ID and FSN.

This is all one UT hour earlier due to imposition of DST in Europe. I was monitoring from the start: At 1747, 7290 had CCI between China and VIRI in Russian, but Iran quit as scheduled by 1749.5* leaving S5-S6 of CNR. During a Chinese song, at *1756 IRRS carrier comes on, shortly powers up to S9+20, open except for some hum. Instead of sign-on, continues silent, no mod until WOR JIP as above. Meanwhile I could hear the CNR top-of-hour timesignal.

Meanwhile I have also been checking out the adjacent+ channel QRM as heard by UTwente. This splash has been a serious drawback all B-season, but now it`s better. First at 1747, 7300 has German from Iran, but nothing on 7295, 7285 or 7280. At 1824 the closest is 7275, CRI Chinese from Urumqi until 1827*; leaving at 1830 nothing closer than 7265, CRI Bulgarian via Urumqi, not problems. Thruout there has been dittering on 7305, not a problem either like it was when on 7290. Standard remark about East Turkistan. Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
22 - 28 March 2021

Solar activity was at very low levels throughout the highlight
period with only B-class flare activity. There was a CME off the NW
limb observed in LASCO C2 imagery near 22/0230 UTC. This ejection
likely arrived late on 24 Mar and subsequently caused G1 (Minor)
storm levels on 25 Mar. No other significant solar activity was
observed during the highlight period.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached
high levels on 22-26 Mar due to influences from multiple coronal
hole high speed streams. Normal to moderate levels were observed on
27-28 Mar.

Geomagnetic field activity reached G1 (Minor) storm levels on 25 Mar
due to the likely arrival of the aforementioned CME from 22 Mar.
Active levels were observed on 23, 26, and 27 Mar due to influences
from recurrent, negative polarity cornal hole high speed streams.
Quiet to unsettled levels were observed on 22 and 28 Mar.

Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
29 March - 24 April 2021

Solar activity is expected to be very low for the outlook period.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to reach high levels on 10-13 and 17-22 Apr due to
influences from recurrent coronal hole high speed stream activity.
Normal to moderate levels are expected for the remainder of the
outlook period.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at active to G1 (Minor)
storm levels on 29-30 Mar, 08-10 Apr, and 16-17 Apr, all due to
recurrent coronal hole high speed stream influences. Quiet to
unsettled levels are expected for the remainder of the outlook
period.

Glenn Hauser logs March 28-29, 2021

DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS UPDATED FOR A-21
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxpgms.html

** CHINA [non]. 9580, March 29 at 0115, CRI English at S9+10 via CUBA, CCCCCCI at first turned out to be self-imposed QRM by voiceover translation, not fading down completely the original language. Ex-6180 now clear for Brasil if they care to use it. Well, not completely, CRI English southward from Kashgar is still on 6180 at 0000-0200, via EAST TURKISTAN, land of ChiCom imperialist genocide and persecution of the Uyghurs. Altho not stated, my previous report of CRI at 1500 on 11880 was also via CUBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, March 29 at 2203, RHC not in French as expected at shifted time to ``Africa`` but Spanish, music show // other mainstream Spanish: 11850 JBM, 11760, 9650, 9535 and reactivated 15370, S9+25/30 and distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC. However, by 2316, 11880 is properly in English, going from `This Week in Cuba` to `Mailbag` with no sign of `DXers Unlimited` which used to occupy this timearea.

15230, at 2205 check March 28 is in Brazuguese, but distorted and wobbly. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, March 29 at 0117, RHC English is gone again: I bet it`s back to 49 meters --- Yes, there it is on reactivated 6165, S9+10/20, which will be a QRM problem for 6159.93 WBCQ; -70 Hz offset won`t help much; and still on // 6000. RHC should really stay on 31m thru the summer for some frequency- and noise-level diversity, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. As I have reported in detail to MWDX groups, KSDA SW site is hosting a temporary antenna setup for KUAM 630, which has been off the air since May 1, 2020; it will be at reduced power and under new ownership and religious format. Matt Francis replies on the WOR iog:

``Hi Glenn, The assignee - Good News Broadcasting Corporation - is the not-for-profit operator of JOY FM in Guam KSDA 91.9 FM and KORU 89.9 FM in Northern Marianas Islands. According to their website, they assumed responsibility for the FM station sometime after 1992. It had originally started operating from the AWR-Asia studios in Guam in 1991, but Good News took over following a decision by AWR to shift away from local AM & FM broadcasting. https://joyfmradio.net/about-us/ Matt Francis, Bilgola Plateau, NSW, Australia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 11880, March 29 at 0112, KBS World Radio hour in Spanish now here via Grimesland NC, replacing longtime relay via WHRI 9605, which is now vacant. S9+10 but not exactly solid here off the side of the southward beam (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, March 28 at 2158, VOT IS prior to English for N America, on reactivated A-21 frequency, ex-5960 in B-20 an hour later --- and sure enough, with heavy RTTY QRM, which is NAU Puerto Rico. This happens season after A-season and VOT is oblivious to it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2079 monitoring: confirmed Sunday March 28 from 2200:25 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.93, S6-S7 at best, VP. We are still hoping they will move us back to nighttime, UT Mon 0300.

Also confirmed Sunday March 28 at 2300 on WRMI 7780, VG S9/+15 into Maine SDR where it`s aimed toward Europe.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 29 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Mon Mar 29 at 0130 WRN webcast, now shifted due to BST in London, altho we have been on DST for a biweek already. Next:

0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 5800 to SSE
1801vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy [ex-1901]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** CHINA [non]. 11880, March 28 at 1459, S9+20 open carrier, as CRI relay is back down here for A-21, usual switch from 15700 during B-20. Wow, successfully starts modulating at 1500, ID as ``CRI Plus Radio``, into Commie Party ``news``. Somewhat undermodulated but with this bigsig one can safely upturn the volume. Why 11 MHz in summer and 15 MHz in winter is not clear; some propagation model calls for that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, March 28 at 0603, once again this RHC English suffers from big humbuzz. 6000 has just cut off; // 6100 is undermodulated with somehum but tolerable. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March 28 at 1452, R. Martí has made its totally predictable and registered A-season switch from 13820, VG here and if there is any jamming, inaudible; while 13820 still has wall-of-noise jamming against nothing. Something`s always wrong at the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, March 28 at 1455, new A-21 REE frequency is S9 with silly ballgame to ME, ex-12030; but new N American frequency 17855 is missing, supposed to begin at *1400 weekends; nor on ex-9690 either. Off to a great start. 11940 to SAm is VP. As usual the ME frequency is best for us off the back if there is none thisaway! Propagation MUF insufficient for 17855? No, should work over totally-insolated daypath, if not later into the night. But only signal on 16m is JBA 17630 CRI Mali. I check various remotes: at 1533, Maine is getting zero on 17855 & 9690; at 1535, RSA is getting zero on 17855 & 15520; Kuwait is getting 15520 OK, nothing on 17855 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2079 monitoring: tnx to Richard Langley, NB and Wolfie Büschel, Germany for confirming WOR is NOT on WRMI 15770 Sunday March 28 at 1130, but as per skedgrid, Wavescan. Next:
