Glenn Hauser logs July 20-21, 2016

** BOTSWANA [and non]. 13830, July 21 at 0522, no signal yet from VOA French, and no noise blob on the hi side either I am checking for, unlike last night. After 0530, 13830 is on but very poor S8 max, and still no noise.

Despite this, Franco-neighbor 13840, from 0530 NHK via MADAGASCAR is VG at S9+10. Normally there is not such a disparity between them; is 13830 from a substitute site today, perhaps off for repairs because of the noise problem last night? VOA can switch sites around as needed without notice (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11880 & 11680 approx., July 21 at 0528, S9 extremely distorted plus/minus 100 kHz blobspurs // 11780 so out of RNA, which sounds OK on the S9+20 fundamental. OTOH, 6180 is behaving itself, no blob yet again around 6205 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 13920, July 21 at 1342, big S9+10 signal from CNR1 jammer,
// but not synch with the jammer on 11785. So I do a full WOObandscan from 10 to 19 MHz: at 1347 find another but not synchronized, exactly 1 MHz higher on 14920, also VG at S9+10/20. The only other one is on 16100, S5-S8. At 1400 I`m listening to 14920 as it cuts off after only 4 timepips. There was also a suspicious open carrier at 1344 on 13510, S4-S5. On none of them was there any trace of a jamming target. All but 13510 are listed by Aoki as jammed Sound of Hope frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. Re my TV DX log on channel 2 July 20, I do know how to spell Campeonato --- it was typoed as ``Camponeato``. Either way, the Anglophone spell-checker redlines it, not being clued in to Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 610, July 21 at 1108, mentions Grupo Chávez, which means it`s XEGS, Guasave, Sinaloa, QRM from KCSP, KC, MO; and shortly a mention of Sabinas, which means that`s XEBX in Coahuila (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 660, July 21 at 1110, song about besos, 1112 ID as ``La Kaliente 102.9`` which means it`s the negligible 50/10 kW AM progenitor, XEEY, Aguascalientes2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 990, July 21 at 1104, XET, La T Grande, Monterrey NL, opening news block `Enlace 99` until 10 am (15z) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 1030, July 21 at 1117, 6:17 TC ``tiempo del centro de México``, during newscast, loops WSW, vs KCTA gospel huxter south in English. Therefore I think this is still XEYC in Juárez, not having QSYed to 1420 contrary to some reports, with Milenio Radio originating in the DF, but courteously specifying the timezone of chex which is not applicable in Chihuahua; just like Central Americans have to put up with Eastern zone references whether specified or not, as if that were the default USA standard (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 780, July 21 at 1105 UT, open carrier is already on from KSPI Stillwater, 250 watt daytimer, which could start programming in July at 1115 UT (August: 1145 UT) but normally does not until 1200 UT. A Mexican is under, probably XESFT, and nothing from WBBM already.

BTW, looking thru their History Cards at FCC AM Query, in 1953y KSPI had a CP to change to fulltime on 1490 kHz, but relinquished it. Original CP in 1946y was for 840 kHz, but soon changed to 780. A 70-year-old station which never wanted to be more than a 250-watt daytimer (except they did add a significant FM on 93.9/93.7) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, July 21 at 0559 UT, C&W music from KGYN Guymon, VG dominating frequency, so once again is in a protracted period of leaving ND 10 kW day power on at night instead of protecting Philly (and Enid). Ditto at next check pre-sunrise at 1100 UT, ID as ``KGYN, Guymon-Liberal, a Steckline Communications Station``, then dead air (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, July 21 at 1346 UT, KOSU with `State Impact Oklahoma` cutaway from NPR Morning Edition, this report about the health hazards to humans and animals of too-bluish LED street lighting. I don`t find today`s report yet on the website, but here is one from NPR a month ago which probably inspired it:
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 7295.005, July 21 at 1143, R. Sakha with poor signal, still on at 1202 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, July 21 at 1126, carrier with some music from SIBC. Altho 9545 would have been much better here, now it would be blocked by TAIWAN move-in, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAIWAN. 9545, July 21 at 1126, Chinese signal at S7-S9, something new, first reported yesterday by Ron Howard. This frequency had been (by chance) exclusive worldwide for Solomon Islands, but which has been inactive lately even during daytime schedule normally until 0500, sometimes on into the night. It was unID for Ron but clues were for Taiwan rather than Mainland. At 1157 still Chinese talk and music, and not // 11785 CNR1 echo jamming. 1158 ID ending with ``guangbo diantai`` but I missed the important words just before it! Followed however by some websites ending in .tw, so that clinches it. At 1200 a timesignal of only 3 + 1 pips, maybe a semisecond late. Could it be Fu Hsing, which Ron says has been missing from 9410 and 9774? NO:

Today`s Aoki already has the answer:
9545 1000-1400 TWN * R.TAIWAN INT. Chi Tamsui Dist 1-7
But no *jamming heard yet, no doubt ASAP (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12072-USB, July 21 circa 1208 and reawake at 1345, nothing from the Dark Knight, US Army net heard yesterday. I may add that their contacts lacked an element of spontaneity – going by training scripts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1834 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday July 20 at 2100 on WBCQ, 7489.992-AM, S6-S7 vs noise level. Also confirmed July 20 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.051-CUSB.

WORLD OF RADIO 1835 monitoring: confirmed first SW broadcast Thursday July 21 at 1130 on WRMI, 9955, VG at steady S9+20 and NO jamming! thru end of show. Preceded until 1129 by `Frecuencia al Día`, last item being a ``Valencia DX`` report by José Miguel Romero in Spain, who is one of our valued DXLD contributors, but never mentions he does this on the air; and followed by bilingual ID. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830, July 20 at 2056 check, WTWW-1 is ON night frequency in the daytime, and surprisingly good at S9+10, theme adaptation of ``Rawhide`` sung by planted Pastor Pete Peters. They sometimes run 9475 all-night, so why not 5830 all-day? Wish I had checked for it at high noon, 1832 UT here, maybe 45 minutes earlier around Nashville.

12105, July 20 at 2056, WTWW-3 is Bibling in French, VG at S9+20, while 9475 and 9930 are off.

5085, July 21 at 0520, WTWW-2 is still off, no `Midnight [sic] in the Desert` which used to be at 05-08 UT Tue-Sat, and is still proudly displayed as if ``with Art Bell`` on the WTWW.us homepage along with Dave Ramsey show afternoons, also disappeared.

What does M[sic]itD itself say about WTWW? http://midnightinthedesert.com/
It seems their /howtolisten page hasn`t been updated for 7 months. Pushes streaming and podcasts for a price, but finally linx to a page of radio stations with WTWW 5085 at the top; and *only 10* other AM/FM stations nationwide! Not including the Alva OK station KPAK 97.5 which was originally on the roster but whence it was never heard here. Hardly a successful broadcast, and now it`s lost its true nationwide frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 570, July 21 at 0545 UT, Fox Sports Radio is good dominating frequency from WSW. As previously IDed must be KWML Las Cruces NM, and on 5 kW ND day power instead of legal 155 watts night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 3967.0, July 21 at 1134, open carrier at S7-S9. Not a known broadcast frequency in Asia (North Korea is on 3970), so perhaps just a hAM, but why? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
