** AUSTRALIA. 15320, July 16 at 1422, special English story about the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale and another woman, Dr. Barry (sp?) who had to masquerade as a man for the rest of her life; produced with some music, S6-S9. This is now the main English broadcast of Reach Beyond, Australia, 1255-1430 per HFCC, 100 kW at 310 degrees making us wonder if it reach here by longpath. Here`s Ivo`s updated schedule:
http://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.bg/2016/07/updated-16-schedule-of-reach-beyond.html
showing the only other English are scattered quarter-hour segments, likely `Spotlight`, as this show also seems to be, i.e. the devious program with not-so-hidden agenda of indoctrinating ESL-learners into Protestantism (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 11910, July 16 at 1315, CRI English is back in business on the successor-frequency to the onetime relay of Spain, and once again programming is completely separate from that on 11900 (//9570 Cuba two seconds later). 11910 is a conversation; 11900 is a story about a poem. Sites are Beijing and Kunming respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TURKEY. Following news of the coup in Turkey July 15, I first try to get the 2030 English broadcast on 9620 via webcast, but can`t get anything to connect. Liz Cameron in MI was getting 9620 via UTwente, which I couldn`t get to work either, my java problem. Visually the TRT website in English still has yesterday`s Nice attack as top news.
9830, at 2146 UT July 15, is as usual occupied by the big RTTY signal. At 2206 on the R75, I find the RTTY is off, but two very poor carriers above 9830, about 9830.04 and 9830.082. At 2235 I`ve switched to the NRD-545 and find a better signal on it with the N-S random wire, S4 to S5 than the ALA-330S, S2-S4. Here there is only one signal, about 9830.04, and I conclude the other one is a birdie which I also get long after this hour on the R75.
Fast vocal music is playing, 2239 Voice of Turkey ID in English and more music, as is usual for the second half of the hour. (Notable that Saudi 9870 is stronger and steadier at S6 and more modulation.) At 2244:35, normal sign-off from VOT giving full English schedule (but not in order), and mentioning that the late broadcasts after 1830 are pre-recorded. (This normally includes even the news, or make that ``olds``). The TRT IS barely gets one play until cut off at 2246:30*. Closing this early is not unusual, so it seems we were just getting a replay of the earlier broadcast, nothing out of the ordinary here. Nor is the 0300 on 9515 and 6165 likely to be anything new, unless they make some special effort. Normally the first English broadcast of the day is at 1230-1320v on 15450, to Western Europe, but barely audible here.
May I recommend MSNBC for continuing coverage of Turkey, while CNN keeps alternating with other stuff like Nice, Trumpence.
CNN has its own Turkish channel, but it was closed down early on, as it put Erdogan on the air first with a response to the coup. At 0115 UT July 16, MSNBC is way ahead of CNN, putting Erdogan on air with translation, from NTV feed, after he landed in Istanbul.
9515, July 16 at 0300, checking the next VOT English broadcast, and by far the most reliable one here, S9+20 to 30 but with heavy flutter: Sign-on with English schedule and warning us that the 23 and 04 [sic] broadcasts are repeats. As expected, top story in the YL`s newscast is about Nice, not Turkey itself. Altho she enunciates clearly, is still harder to understand than the OM announcer who interrupts to remind us it`s news from Voice of Turkey. Make that, ``olds``.
15450, July 16 at 1230 is the next English and normally the first one of the day with new news. However, expecting unreadable reception, I do not alarm myself to hear it, but do awaken to S5-S7, just as it`s wrapping, at 1320 headlines referring to Friday`s events, and a comment by Pres. Obama; 1321 sign-off, 1322-1326* interval music.
Perhaps Richard Langley or someone will have recorded and archived it.
He tells the DXLD yg: ``The whole news bulletin was taken up by reports on the coup attempt. But no special programming after that -- just the usual fare. And, as was reported yesterday, there was no mention of the coup during the English broadcast on Friday at 2200 UT on 9830 kHz. Neither was there during the following 0300 UT broadcast on 9515 kHz, which was a repeat of the one at 2200``
The other VOT English broadcasts, if one try to hear them directly or indirectly: 1630 on 15520, 1830 on 9785.
About pronouncing: VOA`s What`s Hot pronunciation site gets top hit by Google search, and well worth bookmarking, altho it doesn`t use the more accurate IPA; also with audio linx and access to the huge VOA pronunciation archive, and Recep is in good company:
``EBOLA: EH-boh-lah The virus that was first found here is pronounced by many as ee-BOH-lah. This is the preferred VOA pronunciation for the disease.
ERDOGAN, RECEP TAYYIP: reh-JEHP t-eye-YIHP ERR-doh-ahn``
This G in Turkish has that curved semi-circle accent above it. I hear other newscasters pronouncing it like a W instead of silent (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1834 monitoring: confirmed after 2130 Friday July 15 on WRMI 13695, S9+20, and 15770, JBA. Did anyone hear WOR via HLR Sat 0630 on 6190-CUSB, 1430 on 7265-CUSB? Next:

** U S A. 7490-, Fri July 15 at 2147, WBCQ is back on, very poor but music sounds like `Behaviour Night` as scheduled. 9330.063v-CUSB is also back on at 2325 with The Planet IDs and IS before WOR at 2330. Was there any significant station news or program info on Allan Weiner Worldwide from 0000 UT Sat on 7489.9-AM? I was stuck to TV coverage of Turkey (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 13695, Fri July 15 at 2205, WRMI is playing ``Sandunga``, i.e. during their World Music rotation, instead of Brother Scare who is supposed to resume at 2200 before the 2300 QSY of XMTR 11 to 7570. As shown on the full schedule grid at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nEVwCMB9RSKowLzLXamyayVpCzjmPAw_SB1r3YOdzQc/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0
or rather easily accessed from the URL below:
I see that the WRMI programming page is now properly displaying grafix, program logos, including the WORLD OF RADIO banner:
http://wrmi.net/index.php/programming/
Oddly, however, the grafic which we know to pertain to oddly named media program `La Rosa de Tokio`, is ``Radio Provincia``, the show`s home station in Argentina (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, 9930, 9475, July 15 at 2146, all WTWW transmitters are off. Ditto at 2320 recheck. Apparently they are not being maintained properly, subject to breakdowns and then trying to fix them. Finally July 16 at 0558, I find WTWW-1 5830 back on at S9+20, but WTWW-2 5085 is still off so no `Midnight [sic] in the Desert`. It`s still unclear whether that program or `Dave Ramsey` in the afternoons on 9930 would still be on the schedule were the transmitter funxional. Maybe we`ll find out Monday/UT Tuesday. 5830 is still funxioning with SFAW at 1336 July 16, S9+10. Saturday afternoon we shall hear if WTWW-3, 12105 be back, or back with any more than the dead air it has radiated so much (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
