Glenn Hauser logs November 19-20, 2019

** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Nov 19 at 2052, another check for R. Tirana via WRMI as scheduled 2030 --- and again Balkan music fill, but 2057 abruptly cut to a national anthem, and 2058 Radio Tirana IS for about a minute! But no announcement. Their IS is lo-fi and seems to have been retrieved from an ancient off-air recording, perhaps from intervalsignals.net presumably having lost their original version of it. 2059.5 WRMI ``Everglades`` ID and 2100 into Scourby Bibling, as TOMBS is rejoined for the next 16 hours.

I had been suspecting that WRMI was not airing RT at all and doing its own World Music fill until I heard this. Now it appears that WRMI is running program files from RT, but they are not containing English programming -- either RT English has been suspended at the source, or the web intermediary is automatically recording at the wrong time when RT is just running music. RT website connects to this:

But instead of audio we see this text with current dates:

This site gives the hours for each language on Radio Tirana; no zone specified, but suspect local UT+1 rather than UT:

18:00-18:30
22:00-22:30
00:00-00:30
03:30-04:00
08:00-08:30
10:30-11:00
13:30-14:00``

Note that the ``03:30`` broadcast corresponds by chance(?) to the other WRMI relay time of 0230 UT on 9395. I check that again on UT Nov 20 to hear Spanish & English WRMI IDs already at 0227, music 0228 past 0230 with no Radio Tirana sign-on, but maybe it is again whatever came from Radio 360 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 326 kHz, Nov 19 at 0730 UT, dash and VV, which is NDB in Wiarton, Ontario, 133 watts and to be decommissioned 3-26-20, per William Hepburn`s listings. I was tuned to 325-USB.

335 kHz, Nov 19 at 0732 UT, dash and YLD, NDB in Chapleau, Ontario, 1000 watts. Chapleau is between SSM and Timmins (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [non]. 9570, Nov 20 at 1220 check, CRI relay is in Cantonese as usual; altho Wolfgang Bueschel reported that HFCC as of Nov 5 showed this hour in English. Now it does show Yue = Cantonese (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 6145, Nov 19 at 0714, once again RHC English is on here contrary to own new sked as 6165; S9/+10 but poor, undermodulated; and no other 49m frequency. How can replacing 6165 with 6145 be explained over the entire 0200-0800 span?

6165 would have the following conflicts per Aoki:
6165 0430-0500 D NHK WORLD RADIO JAPAN Rus Nauen    1-7
6165 0600-0630 F NHK WORLD RADIO JAPAN Ara Issoudun 1-7

But 6145 also has an hour-long collision:
6145 0500-0557 ROU R.ROMANIA INT. Rom Galbeni-Bac 1-7

6145, Nov 20 at 0513 check, indeed CCI on 6145 altho RHC is atop at about S9. HFCC shows the Romanian hour is 285 degrees from Galbeni for France. (There will also be a 6145 collision with Algeria at 04-06 should they ever get their new BEC site operational.)

At this time 6145 is dispensable, since 6100 RHC is much stronger S9+30 altho undermodulated; 6000 is S9/+10 but suptorted/JBM; and 6060 still absent leaving Algerian Qur`an in the clear. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Earlier obs of 6145: UT Wed Nov 20 at 0226, RHC `DXers Unlimited` about CQs on 10 meters; better than only // 6000 which is JBM; and scheduled // 6060 is still a no-show, perhaps scared off by WRMI/SMTV/RAE, but which finishes anyway at 0200. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Later obs of 6145: UT Wed Nov 20 at 0721-0731, final repeat of `DXers Unlimited`, so I try to listen to whole thing before offdozing, despite hard-to-copy degraded voice of Arnie: if only he would make an effort to slow down and enunciate as clearly as possible. Topix: antenna advice for ham transmissions; QRP subbands: 7030-7040, 10106-10110, 14060, 21060, 28060. Solar cycle 24 about to end with SSN of only 0.4; peak was only 82 in 2014(?); unsure what will happen with cycle 25 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13563, 13632, 13769, 13837 approx., Nov 20 at 1435, FM spurblobs of RHC 13700-AM, at 67-69 kHz intervals, this time only with the F# tone audible, but no program audio. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9515, Nov 19 at 2010, W&M in French, S8 to S9+10. 2012 ID as Voix de l`Espérance, i.e. AWR at 2000-2030, half a Talata at 125 kW, 320 degrees to W Africa, further USward; the strongest extra-continental signal on band, 9690 Spain being absent; and 9515 better than 9420 Greece (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [non]. 5980, Nov 19 at 2346, no JBA carrier detectable from Radio Chaski under wall-of-noise Cuban jamming against nothing else. Claudio Galaz, Chile, had monitored Chaski cutting off at 2357 earlier in November, as if in reply to my query. I`ll keep checking (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Nov 19 at 2341, VOT AWOL again for English to N America as often the case now; wake up? at Emirler. Audiblizes the JBA offset carrier on 5960-minus from PBS Xinjiang, land of ChiCom brainwashing of Uyghurs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 347 kHz, Nov 19 at 0733 UT, NDB ID as AFK, which is 25 watts from Nebraska City, NE. Also logged two Canadians (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Final two airings of WORLD OF RADIO 2008 as scheduled:
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday  WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330, Nov 19 at 2013, WBCQ-6 is not on yet, but next check 2340 S9/+10 with Brother Scare, who has seldom been heard on the SuperStation tests despite having ``owned`` 9330 previously on the ``classic`` transmitter. This is not // 7490v. Quite a turn-off and did not track whatever aired on 9330 further into this evening (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 880, Nov 20 at 0707 UT and still 0715, dead air from N/S, obviously KRVN Lexington NE, instead of Jim Bohannon (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1530, KVDW AR: Wayne Heinen, editor of the NRC AM Log, replies to my report chasing down the FM simulcasts of this station:

``Once again I will try to explain Groups! Since there are MANY MANY stations that have multiple simulcasts we’ve added the “Groups” in a separate reference that appears from page 292 to the end of the AM Radio Log and can be easily separated from the Log and used as a separate reference.

KVDW’s Listing from the 40th Edition:

KVDW England AR C D1 2500 - No PSSA CH 270
4317 E Broadway St, North Little Rock 72117-4124 - 501-765-2914
UC:GOS/REL - - -Grp= Victory 1530- -

Grp=Victory 1530 that appears under KVDW’s listing

In the Groups Section Victory 1530 – KVDW-1530, K265EO-100.9, K237GW-95.3 shows that KVDW has 2 translators one at 100.9 and the other at 95.3. 73 Wayne Heinen Editor NRC AM Radio Log``

Yes, I must remember to check the Groups cross-ref; rather than expecting to find FM //s as announced, in the main entry (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1190, Nov 20 at 0659 UT, banda music looping WSW/ENE, by 0701 ID? but no midnight Mex NA, losing out to RCC talk in English no doubt KDMR Kansas City, which is 500 watts at night. Closest US fit by language, proximity and DF in the NRC AM Log is 250-watt KNUV Tolleson AZ (Phœnix market), altho SS:NWS/TLK, so do they ever play music or format flip since? But IRCA Mex Log shows also two possible Mexicans, XEPZ in Juárez and XEMBC in Mexicali, neither of which is shown as musical, either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15728.2-USB, Nov 20 at 1440, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS within the 19m SWBC band which officially extends up to 15800 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
