Glenn Hauser logs October 16-17, 2016

** ARGENTINA. 11710+v, UT Monday Oct 17 at 0011, still no weekend signal from RAE ATTW, nor around 15345 at 0016 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, Oct 17 at 0219, RHC, Arnie talking about hurricane damage in eastern Cuba, S9+20, but very undermodulated. // 6000 is S9+40 and less undermodulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9530, Oct 17 at 0033, Spanish rock music at S8, very poor, but enough to make a match to 4765, of which this is Radio Progreso on its second harmonic. Suffers splash from 9535 RHC, Cubans vs Cubans! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15120, Oct 17 at 0015, CRI Spanish relay is S6 but just barely modulated music; while // 5990 at S9+45 has no modulation at all except for some crackle --- wiggle those patchcords! Still the same at 0044 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 17730, Oct 17 at 0014, RHC is S9+25 in French! Prolonged mixup/contradixion in scheduling info: RHC itself has no such transmission:
Aoki also misses the 2230-2430 block on 17730 completely.
EiBi does show 17730 at 0000-0030 in Q,F, i.e Quechua or French. RHC sked shows the Quechua at 0000-0030 on 15370 instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 17580, Oct 17 at 1356, S9+20, RHC Spanish with loud hum instead, while // 17730 also S9+20 is nominal. Wiggle that patchcord! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9315, Oct 17 at 0035, motorboating noise at S8, R. Cairo already on with futile warmup before 0045 Spanish, 0200 English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9535, Oct 16 at 2340, RHCuba seems to have some QRM way under, which could be MWV back on the air in Chinese service, and nothing else is scheduled this hour per Aoki.

9600, Oct 17 at 0020, JBA music at S5 which includes the noise level. Presumed MWV with the KNLS English hour, back on air. Frequent chex for weeks have found no signal and nothing else is scheduled now.

6190, Oct 17 at 0215, Spanish at S7, historical talk about FARC, somehow quoting Isaiah, 0218 hymn, pensamiento de hoy. Must be MWV back on the air as La Voz Alegre.

9480, Oct 17 at 0412, station in English, fair, which could only be MWV, back on the air as African Pathways Radio. Now to check whether also resumed at 18-19 on 17640. A reminder of the full A-16 schedule, per EiBi:

18-19 17640 English
18-19  9570 Russian
19-20 11945 Egyptian Arabic
20-21 13710 Egyptian Arabic
21-22 11615 Mandarin
22-23 11770 Egyptian Arabic
22-23  9455 Mandarin
23-24  9535 Mandarin
00-01  9600 English
01-02  9600 English [? Both transmitters? Originally 9665 only]
       9665 English
02-03  6190 Spanish
03-04  6150 Spanish
04-05  9480 English
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 800, Oct 17 at 1242, with KQCV OKC nulled as much as possible, weak Spanish making slow SAH, promo for La Hora Nacional about Guanajuato. Straining to hear anything identifiable, maybe mentions ``Cañón``, i.e. XEROK on greatly reduced power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 820, Oct 17 at 1242, romantic ballads interrupted by canned YL non-ID as ``Canal 800-20, ABC Radio``, really XEABCA Mexicali BCN. Dominant with WBAP in a fade, and even when it comes back up, easily nullable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 780, Sunday Oct 16 at 1919 UT, KSPI Stillwater is back on the air, with rock music; 2000 UT ID as `Pete 94-3, KSPI Stillwater, Pete 94-3``. I am beginning to think there indeed has been a format flip for 780 away from sports talk, conceding to crosstown competitor Triple Play Sports (1020, 1580, 105.1).

Monday morning, Oct 17 at 1224 UT it`s still music instead of local live morning talk show --- and the music instead of talk splashes harder against 774 Trans-Pacific carriers, Australia/Japan, often audible just pre-sunrise here. 1226 ads for Ponca City, Stillwater, and a casino. More rock music; 1402-1404 UT ABC Sports, summary of weekend action. 1405 UT intro show `The Game`, local call-in about sports, and theme music to 1407.5, dead air, and theme music loops again and again at 1408, 1409, 1410; finally at 1411 live host starts the show ``on Pete 94-3 and AM 780``. So there is still sports talk part of the time on 780, after a weekend full of music --- maybe just plugged into automated 94.3 audio for lack of local live staff available? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 6878.50-USB, UT Monday Oct 17 at 0013, S9+25 Texas Army MARS net control reading an agenda for members to fulfill; over by 0042 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1847 monitoring: confirmed Sunday Oct 16 after 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.027v-CUSB. Also confirmed UT Monday Oct 17 after 0030 on WRMI, 7730, S9+45. Also confirmed UT Monday Oct 17 at 0302 on Area 51 via WBCQ, 5129.847v. Also confirmed UT Monday Oct 17 at 0330 on WRMI, 9955, S7-S4, no jamming audible. Next:
Mon 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1100   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2130   WRMI 15770 to NE
Tue 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15240, Sunday Oct 16 at 1656, no signal from WWRB with R. Munansi; while neighbor 15825 WWCR has good signal.

5050, UT Monday Oct 17 at 0018, this WWRB also still AWOL, allowing us to hear the splash from 5040 RHC in Kriyòl (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, Oct 17 at 0019, no signal from WTWW-3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Oct 17 at 1353, KVOH already on and audible, unusual, with English ID as ``This is the Strategic Communications Group, KVOH, Los Angeles`` and guitar IS(?) loop, 1354 switch to other music prélude to Spanish without IDs. Unstable transmitter wobbling with BFO engaged (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Tropo DTV DX the morning of October 17, UT: initial bandscan finds lots of Bad signals on UHF and a few on VHF. Among those which decode despite antenna to the SSE:

At 1445, RF 22, KSNC Great Bend KS on 2.1, Ion on 2.2, and Justice on 2.3, contrary to W9WI listings for the subs as Telemundo and Ion, respectively. I mostly eye Justice as that`s a new one to me: during `Cold Case Files` narrated by Kansan Bill Kurtis. Holds up for more than an hour. Constant Justice bug in lower right is a large J in a blue shield. A commercial break includes tiny-type joint ID string at the bottom for KSNW-3 Wichita, KSNC-2 Great Bend, and KSNG-11 Garden City, so evidently the sub-channel lineup has changed for all of them.

From 1447, RF 34, WDAF Kansas City MO, Fox on 4.1, and ANT-TV on 4.2, I think as listed, tho confundible with KFOR RF 27, OKC also with ANT TV on its 4.2. WDAF only occasionally locks in.

WDAF correlates well with William Hepburn`s 15 UT DX map showing marginal to fair enhancement between Kansas City and here, but Great Bend is outside that zone (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. 7730, UT Monday Oct 17 at 0012, WRMI is still rerepeating the CDXA special tribute to Ecos del Torbes, with plenthy of clips, S9+25 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZAMBIA. 13680, Sunday Oct 16 at 1253, JBA carrier, maybe V of Hope Africa as scheduled on weekends; slightly stronger JBAC on 11680, alternate/mistake frequency. Same situation at 1352. Scheduled until 1700 so another check at 1656: trace of modulation on 13680, 11680 JBAC. Both still there past 1700 to 1701 at least. Was it really on today? Last weekend, during early hours, both were putting in good signals, long path? 11680 on Saturday, 13680 on Sunday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search October 16, UT:
at 1233, 774-WSW, 828-WSW

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search October 17, UT:

UNIDENTIFIED. 1250, Oct 16 at 1240-1245 UT fade, classic country music looping E/W. Format unfits for the AR, MO, stations listed, and nothing to the west, but maybe it`s the nearest in TN, per NRC AM Log,
WKBL, Covington (Memphis) TN, OLD ``Classic Hits`` 800/80 watts U1  (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9665.635, Oct 16 at 0630, very weak 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS on USB but also some carrier. Too close to Voz Missionária, Brasil, measured on 9664.98 but it is very weak too now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9796.8-USB, Oct 17 at 0028, 2-way in Spanish but accents unseem Mexican for a change, INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
