Glenn Hauser logs October 15, 2016

** CANADA. 800, UT Sat Oct 15 at 0534 UT, strong music with KQCV OKC completely nullable --- 0535 UT ``from the AM 800 weather centre``, temps in Celsius, then resuming `Coast to Coast AM`, which has these music breaks built into it, so obviously CKLW Windsor Ont. Not a hint of XEROK which should at least also occupy 800 with KQCV nulled! (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9600, Oct 15 at 1244, interview in English about Thailand, i.e. CRI, 150 kW, 163 degrees from Kunming at 12-13, but not // at all to 9570 via CUBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11600, Oct 15 at 1246, Denge Kurdistane, VG S9+20 Kurdish music, site presumably PRIDNESTROVYE until 1300, but too soon switches to talk. No overlap echo with next site yet. Weaker at 1400, now presumably via BULGARIA but still good at S9, less than YEMEN [non] 11860 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 560, Oct 15 at 1209, YL with weather, mentions Durango, dead air, dramatic music; 1212 PSA for SEP, 7:12 TC, more PSAs for SEP [Secretaría de Educación Pública], seem read by same local YL announcer; 1215 over to OM announcer. Besides Centro timezone, only the ``Durango`` clew to go on, but very likely XESRD, Santiago Papasquiaro in that state; a remote town roughly halfway between Gómez Palacio and Durango capital; with 10/1 kW, does it cover either or both? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 780, Oct 15 at 1220 UT, with KSPI rock nulled, Spanish 7:21 TC, plugs ``en el PCP``, Coahuila mentioned. PCP apparently a political party rather than a toxin. Maybe it`s this one:
altho there are other ``disappeared`` parties with same initials, per searching. The Coahuilan on 780 is XEWGR, Monclova (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 800, Oct 15 at 0535, NO signal detectable from XEROK, instead dominated by CKLW from opposite direxion; see CANADA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 780, Sat Oct 15 at 1220 UT, rock music on strong steady signal: could it be KCEG Fountain CO? But it`s supposed to be C&W. Or could it be my semi-local from Stillwater, KSPI, which is normally talk, mostly sports?? 1230 UT quick non-ID as something ``94-3``, mentions ``speed-date``, right back to music. 1251 UT still rock-steady at S9+20; 1258 UT non-ID as ``Peak 94-3``, music. Finally at 1301 UT, ``Peak 94-3, KSPI, Stillwater, Peak 94-3``, NO translator legal ID, and more music. Since there is a 94.3 in Colorado Springs of which Fountain is a suburb (despite station address in Denver), I was almost convinced a station named ``Peak`` (as in Pikes) would have to be from there! But per WTFDA FM database no such branding of its 94.3:

``KILO 94.3 COLORADO SPRINGS CO USA 59.2 59.2 670.0 670.0 38-44-44 104-51-42 264C KILO943 www.kilo943.com KILO 94 ROCK``

There are certainly no peaks around Stillwater; only by hearing it, maybe could be ``Pique 94-3``. From WTFDA FM Database:

``K232FI // KSPI-780 94.3 STILLWATER OK USA 0.25 0.25 0.0 0.0 36-10-47 97-00-38 KINGDOM KEYS RADIO RELIGION/SOME SPANISH``

This makes no sense: KSPI 780 is primarily sports, not as described above, certainly not religion. Maybe that was the translator`s former primary from something else, before KSPI acquired it? Note that KSPI has its own real FM on 93.7, separately programmed. So at times, 780 KSPI turns itself into an appendage of the translator on 94.3 (blocked in Enid by an LPFM here). On weekdays, 780 is normally in a local talk show, beyond mere sports. Both of them are 250 watts! Incomparable, of course, with much greater coverage on a low AM channel.

Finally I check the cluster site
and aha, it`s PETE 94.3, not Peak! I think this allude to some stupid sports mascot, yet it is musical, about it: ``Pete features a unique and familiar mix of the 90's and beyond, targeting adults 25-44. Core artists consist of Dave Matthews, Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, Matchbox 20, REM, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden``. I find it amazing that audience research thinx when you turn 45, your tastes suddenly change. And this would never have targeted me at any age (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. 9390, Oct 15 at 1236, R. Thailand is fairly audible, so what`s happening after the kingdeath? Topic-A, of course, but 1239 promo international trade, see http://www.thailandtrustmark.com --- a website which is still golden, but homepage alternates with monochrome portrait of the deceased. 1242 ``about outpouring of condolences from the world community`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UGANDA [non]. 15240, Sat Oct 15 from 1600, no signal from R. Munansi via WWRB, nor at further chex past 1700, by when surely it would have come on if active. Neighbor 15825, WWCR is audible with a very poor signal at least (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1847 monitoring: via UTwente remote SDR in Netherlands, Sat Oct 15 tune-in at 1425 to hear sufficient signal from Hamburger Lokalradio during my propagation outlook toward the end of Media Network Plus; 1430 HLR ID, but fading, and at 1431 can barely hear WOR starting, then faded out completely (or off, power reduxion?), inaudible at further chex to 1457, just ACI from 7260. Next:

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Oct 15 at 1401, Republic of Yemen Radio in Arabic, via Saudi Arabia(?), reaching S9+10 good signal, more than merely S9 from 11600 Kurdistan [non] via Bulgaria (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZAMBIA. 13680, Sat Oct 15 at 1245, JBA carrier, so could it be Voice of Hope-Africa? 11680 has a slightly stronger JBA carrier. Recall that last Saturday, VOHA was on 11680 by mistake, Sunday on 13680, both with good signals here beyond the aimed target area of West Africa, but suspected long-path off-the-back. Now the signals are useless, if one of them really be VOHA. Could be not on air yet, as last week started at 1300 instead of scheduled 1200? At 1305, still the same; at 1400 on 13680, very poor but possible ID. Further chex from 1600 to 1700: still essentially nothing on either; so not on air today, or propagation much degraded from last weekend? BTW, Spain is inbooming on 17855, 15500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search October 15, UT:
From 1202: 702-WSW, 612-WSW, 594-WSW
From 1204: 828-WSW
From 1207: 1098-W
