** ALASKA. 9680, Jan 25 at 1358, the KNLS IS heard once amid QRM as Chinese hour
ending, deliberately collides with ChiCom jamming and Taiwan also until 1400; I
retune to 9615 at 1359, for open carrier and no QRM, 1400 IS and English ID,
1401 sign-on by Lucy Grant, hostess for the hour, very poor at S6, and getting
even weaker as the hour goes on. At least we know that KNLS survived the 7.1
earthquake epicentered 53 miles west of Anchor Point in the ocean. I wonder if
they said anything about the quake on the program, probably pre-recorded in
Tennessee.
Now, any progress on getting their new Madagascar World Voice
on the air???? A bunch of frequency registrations for A-16 are again made in the
7, 9, 11, 15 and 17 MHz bands, as the A-16 HFCC conference gets underway in
Istanbul (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BOLIVIA [and non].
6134.8, Jan 25 at 0253, still humbuzz only, from presumed R. Santa Cruz
defective transmitter, which they are also leaving on later than when it was
funxional. Also 6135.2, R. Aparecida, Brasil, transmitter is in no better shape,
no modulation audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CANADA.
910, Jan 25 at 0404 UT, station in English mentions Canadian Press, so
presumably news source for CHML Hamilton, vs QRM unlike the clear signal I had
25 hours earlier, despite unfavorable nite pattern.
860, this time I
check for other Ontarians, and at 0406 UT Jan 25, Radio-Canada ID in French over
KKOW, into music, and this does loop NE, not NW, so CJBC Toronto. MusiQRM to 740
KRMG is probably CFZM too via CBL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** CANADA. 2749-USB, Jan 25 at 0242, YL in English with weather,
especially wind forecasts, S7, 0243 I thought Placentia was mentioned, but that
would be Newfoundland not on this channel; gale warnings. CCG website shows:
VCS, MCTS Halifax starting at 0240 via Sambro site: ``2749J3E, Radiotelephony,
Technical marine synopsis, forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas
201 to 214. Notices to Shipping in South Coast Nova Scotia area. Notices to
Shipping revising the position of every reported offshore exploration and
exploitation vessel`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA.
4765, Jan 25 at 0240, R. Progreso is still off --- wait, it pops on with weak
S9+5 signal, and in Spanish so not Tajikistan; compared to 5025 Rebelde which is
S9+40. 0413 recheck, 4765 is completely off again, just CODAR: transmitter
problems. And whatever became of Arnie`s repeatedly publicized plans to put RHC
on a 90m frequency? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA.
5040, UT Mon Jan 25 at 0236, RHC `En Contacto` DX program confirmed starting at
this time, final repeat; #4 for 2016y (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6870-AM, Jan 25 at 0301, JBA carrier, no doubt from RHC,
0.5 x 13740. BTW, I`m still not hearing RHC on 6270, altho its leapfrogging
sources, 6060 and 6165 are still very much present (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 15750, Jan 25 at 1419, CRI English via Cuba is
here instead of 15700! Same strong, but undermodulated, hummy signal. Still past
1430; at 1459 it`s off and still not on 15700, but back on 15750 from 1501,
still at 1543. A mistake? I vaguely recall that 15750 may once have been
registered as alternate to 15700 for this 14-16 service (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 9490, Jan 25 at 0313, R. República
is still running in Spanish and so is the Cuban noise jamming at about equal
level. EiBi shows this at 0000-0300 only via Issoudun, FRANCE, like HFCC in
three 1-hour segments. But Aoki shows the span is 0100-0500, which is more like
it. I`ve also previously logged RR after 0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 9965.00, Jan 25 at 0317, R. Cairo is S6, attaining
frequency accuracy! Now if they can only figure out how to add Arabic modulation
instead of dead air and some hum (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MEXICO [and non]. 6185-, Jan 25 at 0250, XEPPM is back on, S9
but undermodulated, slightly on lo side, in Spanish, after missing last night.
Also still on during collision with Armenian from Vatican at 0315, roughly equal
levels making SAH of about 9 Hz. Yet another example of SMG signals going far
astray with more oomph than they should have (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** NEWFOUNDLAND [and non]. 6160-, Jan 25 at 0629, with BFO tuned
to 6159, I can hear two signals beating against each other at the rate of about
9x per second, which fits for Wolfgang Büschel`s SDR measurements Jan 18 around
0620 of: 6159.983, for CKZN St. Johns, 6159.974, for CKZU Vancouver. However,
another comparison on Jan 23 put them about 11-12 Hz apart. They do vary
slightly, but always on low side (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6925.0-USB, Jan 25 at 0256, soul music S9+10,
0258 another tune, now S9+20 refined to 6924.97 with some overmodulation
distortion; at 0303 fades way down and/or off as I start to hear a muffled
announcement --- or rather, that`s another station on LSB; when switching to
that I hear colloquial Brazuguese almost like a broadcast, but then pause and
2-way answer; so I guess it`s not RCW, Chilean pirate which has also used 6925.
More obs of this as unID from *0248, and also Brazilian LSB:
(Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 930, Jan 25 at 1321 UT
& 1338 UT chex, WKY OKC is open carrier/dead air; nulling what`s left I can
hear somestations but nothing IDed (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** PAPUA NEW GUINEA [and non]. 7325-, Jan 25 at 1323, with BFO I
can tell there are two carriers offset, so CRI is weak enough and WRL is strong
enough. Ron Howard confirms that Wantok Radio Light was back on the air
yesterday when I also had a carrier. At 1357 today CRI goes off leaving the
other carrier, at 1405 measured on 7324.94 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** ROMANIA. 7335, Jan 25 at 0309 RRI in Spanish about writers of
the XIX century, mentioning Enescu repeatedly, S7, while // synchronized 7345 is
S9+20, as befits targets of South and Central America, respectively via
Tsiganeshti and Galbeni (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN
[non]. 9510, Jan 25 at 0314, Arabic at S6. It`s Afia Darfur via VATICAN and
0300-0330, to be followed by VOA Somali (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** TIBET [non]. 12013, Jan 25 at 1341, JBA carrier from presumed
V. of Tibet via TAJIKISTAN, up against heavy RTTY on 12015; Jan 25 at 1342, also
JBA carrier on 11512, another favourite frequency; and by 1408 shifted to 11517,
all with no jammers adjacent audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** TURKEY. 12035.07, Jan 25 until 1424:40*, VOT IS is playing at
end of English broadcast, poor and considerably off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1809 monitoring: confirmed
UT Monday Jan 25 from 0401.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5109.7-CUSB, some previous
music having run over a bit, not a JL week. It`s S9+10 at 0410. Also confirmed
at 0430 UT Monday Jan 25 on WRMI 9955, VG signal now but some pulse jamming
audible under: tnx a lot, Arnie! Since WBCQ started a bit late, there is a
23-second overlap between the two WOR airings. (On WRMI at 0409 and later I was
hearing music, suspected fill, but maybe really the day`s programming from R.
Prague as scheduled.) Next:
Tue 1200 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 1415.6 WRMI
9955 to SSE
Wed 2200 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 9975, UT Mon Jan 25 at 0318, KVOH with great music on
`Sunday Night Swing Shift` via good modulation and signal. 0329 Pat Conrad says
featuring Benny Goodman tonight from late 1930s aircheck recordings, but without
missing a beat he`s into proselytizing, admittedly the real purpose of Voice of
Hope. (BTW, Benny Goodman was Jewish:
How
would he feel about his music being used to turn people into
Christians??)
Conrad also presents `Saturday Night Jazz Session`, UT
Sundays 03-04; and `Classic Jazz`, UT Tue-Sat at 02-03. Now at 03-04 weeknites
is `Ranch Nights Live - Jeff Carol (Country) (Simulcast with KWSV, 99.1FM, "The
Ranch" - Simi Valley, California`. All other programming at 01-03 is from
elsewhere, no longer including Rick Wiles. Latest sked on website dated Jan 11
shows nothing after 0400, so that experiment evidently failed. The signal does
tend to fade down later in the night. In fact at 0350 recheck first tuneby I
think it`s off, but then find it`s faded way down to only S8 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5085, UT Monday Jan 25 at 0415, the
editor(?) of CQ Magazine is being interviewed by Ted, with reverb applied to
make it all seem deeper down in a barrel, on S9+50 signal of WTWW-2. Ed. starts
enumerating the columns in the mag, then can`t remember all of them. I wonder if
they got around to explaining what happened to the SWL readership who got merged
into CQ and then left behind. 5085 was not on the air when checked a sesquihour
earlier; you never know when it will be, as there is no such thing as a simple
program schedule on the WTWW.us website (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 1130, Monday Jan 25 at 1337 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is
in dead air again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** YEMEN [non].
11860, Jan 25 at 1325, essentially no signal from R. Sana`a, builds up to good
signal by 1335; at 1428 it`s S9+20 with ME music, 1435 several bad IADs, during
which IBB Kuwait is more audible (at 1436, Iran 11730 is only S9 to S9+10). 1442
brief speech with echoes applied; 1445 martial music; after a few words of
spoken intro, cut to Maghrib, sunset call to prayer at 1457:17 which is only one
sesquisecond later than two days ago, 1457:15.5, and was missing one day ago.
Still VG at 1544 check, S9+10. There continues to be a spirited discussion about
this service and where it is coming from in the DXLD yg (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 1460, Jan 25 at 0327 UT, station in
Spanish catches my ear, better on the E/W antenna than the N/S. PSA by kid for
``Feeding America`` from the Ad Council; then loses out to sports talk in
English. But at 0349 UT, Spanish again with another Feeding America PSA, this
one by adult. Probably ID by SHVA, but can`t make it out in QRM, promo for an
app and YL talk show for a bit, before 0355 T-mobile 1 ad in Spanish, 0356 State
Farm in Spanish with jingles; 0358 a third! FeedingAmerica.org PSA, and
something else from Ad Council mentioning ``jaiscul``, presumably = high school.
Out during possible ToH ID time. NRC AM Log listings have several SS on 1460,
most unlikely here, in FL, FL, GA, IL, IN, NV, OK, OR, TX, VA, WI.
We
can rule out KZUE OK which is a daytimer and not E/W. Others unlikely by format
are FL EWTN; NV and TX Deportes; some others look like they are musical rather
than talk, but not clear. Or was this really sports rather than general talk? I
can`t be sure, in which case KBZO Lubbock TX would stand out by direxion and
proximity (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
