Glenn Hauser logs June 9, 2021

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, June 9 before and after 1500, *no* signal from LRA36 via three different Brasil SDRs which ordinarily get it. Was also missing Sat June 5; who knows if taking a seasonal break or just unreliable/irregular? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BENIN. Surprise, no TWR 1566 signal here before 0500 Wed June 9; but JBA carrier into Spain remote; better S5 with trace of music to Caruaru, Pernambuco SDR, the closest one to Africa; indeed carrier off at 0505:53* compared to JBA CHU 7850 via same SDR.

There has been a lot of discussion about this summer MWDX across North America, people detecting the carrier going off around 0505, such as on the IRCA iog June 8:

``Benin 1566, Nigel Pimblett, 4:32am #19840 --- Haven't noted any usable audio from this one here yet this year, although I haven't been checking every day.

I did manage to decipher the TWR sked, which shows 1566 is only used for a short period on their morning broadcast, with programming running from 0430 to 0505 in the Twi language. I've noticed the carrier comes on at about 0420. The carrier here tonight is weaker than some recent nights, so any audio here is very unlikely. 73, Nigel Pimblett, Dunmore, AB``

However, the A-21 WRTH updater, under, where else? South Africa shows these morning emissions from Parakou:

Kotokoli
0430-0445 .....s. WAf 1566par
0445-0500 ......s WAf 1566par
Twi
0430-0445 ......s WAf 1566par
0430-0500 mtwtf.. WAf 1566par
Moore/Songhai/Twi
0500-0520 daily WAf 1566par
(gh)

Mauno Ritola of WRTH replies: ``Yes, unfortunately there is exactly such a mistake. The schedule is rather complicated, this is what it looks like after 0500, day 1 is Sunday:
0500-0505 1 7 Songhai 1566 Nigeria/Cameroon/Ghana/Togo
0500-0505 23 Twi 1566 Nigeria/Cameroon/Ghana/Togo
0500-0505 456 Moore 1566 Nigeria/Cameroon/Ghana/Togo
0505-0520 1 Moore 1566 Nigeria/Cameroon/Ghana/Togo
0505-0520 7 Songhai 1566 Nigeria/Cameroon/Ghana/Togo``

So until 0520* only on Sat & Sun. Per gaisma.com Parakou sunrise is 0529 UT, close to the earliest of the year; varies less than a semihour later into ``winter`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed June 9 at 2200, REE token English is on and VG S9/+20 into Maryland SDR; sounds good on voice but music is somewhat distorted; 2209 song is `Hoy no me puedo levantar` introducing a feature on a show ``made up of 25 small musicals`` at the only theatre in Spain big enough to present it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, June 9 at 2209, VOT is on in English, and VG into UTwente; after listening to Spain`s simulEnglish for a while, their music is unappealing so back to TRT: 2217 that PSA about COVID-19 including ``a vaccine is yet to be found``!! It must be some 15 months old, awry at Ankara, outdated tho the advice is still good and what other SW station does that? At 2225 I compare to Maryland SDR where it`s just as good, S9+15/20 during `Did You Know That?` until 2225; mostly great Turkish music fills rest of hour; convoluted but correct canned English SW schedule to close, 2252 IS once and off* --- no extra German or Portuguese today! Something`s not erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UGANDA [non]. 15170, Wed June 9 from 1500 on UTwente SDR, *no* signal from IRRS test of unspecified target broadcast via unspecified site believed to be Romania. So the HFCC registrations are not totally imaginary: they do show day 4 = Wednesday as the only day off. Will Ugandan political if not clandestine programming resume Thursday unlike Tuesday? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2089 monitoring: ``From the desk of Richard Lemke’s listening Post, St. Albert, AB, Canada, JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees: Dear Glenn: 5850 kHz, not confirming hearing World of Radio at 1030 UT this early morning; the transmitter went off line 1030, so this program was missing, June 9``

Confirmed Wed June 9 from 2100:20 on WBCQ 7488.853, S8-S9 into Maryland SDR whose Synch displays frequency offset minus 147 Hz.

Also confirmed Wed June 9 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, S8 into Maryland SDR; JBA carrier into UTwente; both also JBA carriers direct to OK. It`s summer and these low bands are not going to propagate beyond one hop, if that far, fighting daytime absorption and high noise levels. Meanwhile there would be plenty of space on 11 & 13 MHz bands for better propagation, but more of a skip zone; think small?

Also confirmed Wed June 9 at 2200 oo WRMI 9955, S9/+15 into Maryland SDR; at 2223 good into Bonaire over pulse jamming. Next, and last:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

New WOR 2090 should be ready by early UT Friday June 11 for first airings at 0130 on WRMIs 5850 & 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 12040, June 9 at 2222, VP S5-S6 signal into Bonaire SDR, and nothing on 12050, so WEWN switched again? No, 12040 must have been KSDA in Sundanese this semihour only; while to OK at 2312 I do have Spanish WEWN poorly on 12050 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
