Glenn Hauser logs November 23-24, 2015

** CUBA. 9790, Nov 23 at 0254, open carrier already from CRI relay; S9+25, so should be good after 0300; checking since a listener in TX was wondering if something had changed causing weak signal. Well, the MUF is tending to drop and drop.

9535, Nov 23 at 0530, RHC is S9+10 with jazz, but undermodulated, so the MUF is sufficient tonight.

9790, Nov 24 at 0428 check, CRI Cantonese relay is pretty puny, not the blaster it could be, but more signal than anything else out of Cuba or Okeechobee on 31m, mostly inaudible on 9395, 9535, 9955, let alone northerly signals (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9964.56, Nov 23 at 2357, good signal but dead air, or is there some just-barely-modulation? If so, it should be English from R. Cairo to North America at 2300-2430; while the 0200-0330 broadcast remains AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, Nov 23 at 1239, R. Verdad is still audible, very poor in Spanish with website http://cristo.org repeated a few times along with contact addresses; finally found location on website: Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Wow, how many ministries would have killed for that URL! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 3985, Nov 23 at 1236, Echo of Hope with talk and music, mixed with roaring jamming from North Korea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 770, Nov 23 at 1301, full ID for Los Cuarenta Principales Los Mochis, XHREV 104.3 and XEREV 770, then at 1303 NA, mixing with KKOB and/or KKOB. A bit surprised, since the normal dominator from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, 650 XETNT is quite weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 900, Nov 23 at 1307, multi-verse choral NA from WSW does not end until 1308, full ID for Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, XHDT, 98.3 FM with 25 kW, street address, but this is XEDT, with ``el programa número uno en Cuauhtémoc, Country Hits`` and into --- country hits, in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, Nov 23 at 0610 UT, KGYN Guymon again is nothing but a big hum. Standard remarx (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 11650, Nov 23 at 2305, ME music on fair signal, by 2320 mostly talk in Arabic, maybe sermon; weakening by 2355. Must be Oman on 11650 tonight, registered in HFCC as 22-02, 100 kW, 315 degrees from Thumrayt. But the RSO info in HFCC is overwhelmingly wooden, as we know they only have one SW transmitter on the air from Thumrayt, and zero from Seeb. Look at all these imaginaries:

Excerpting the hours from 22 to 02 UT, here are the alternatives:
315 degrees: 22-24 9740, 15355, 22-02 11650, 00-02 9500, 9545
220 degrees: 18-24 13785, 00-10 11760 [any broadcasts this azimuth?]

Judging from previous behavior in the summer, when reception was much better, they could also stay on a pre-22 frequency after 22, i.e. 15140 among many others imagined: 15700, 15780, 15640, 13775, 13800, 12050, 17830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1800 monitoring: confirmed on Area 51 via WBCQ 5109.7-CUSB and webcast, UT Monday Nov 23 from 0404; also on webcast of WRMI, UT Monday Nov 23 after 0430, but a JBA carrier on 9955. Next:
Tue 1200   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 1415.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2200   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7489.89, UT Tue Nov 24 at 0001, I`ve finally remembered to listen to `Ramsey`s Roadhouse` on WBCQ, S9+10. Novelty song in progress, something about a dynamo; 0010 announcements, plugs for `BCQ; 0114 ``No one listens to shortwave unless they`re stone-cold sober --- if you do, you`ll end up like Glenn Hauser`` ---- huhh?? After another song, at 0018, this is the 283rd edition of Ramsey`s Roadhouse, on air for 6 years, and one more show to go. Acknowledges letter from Vashek Korinek, South Africa [QSL collector], and someone sent calendars from Sweden/Germany.

Says he is thinking about doing a different show for a change, but would be in same time slot. First music was Frank Zappa; complains about a car device allowing Verizon to track and spy on us; second song was The Band. Earlier had clip of a conversation with Rabbi Spivak, a great guy who is on WBCQ a lot more. Then something by ELO. Host says he is 70 years old, time to do something different. Dedicating last tune to friend Mike Norris, who has died at 69; both were apparently electrical workers, thus ``Wichita Lineman``. 0029 outro of program by wife Carol. 0030 next show is `Camp Constitution Radio` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9900, Nov 23 at 2355, rumbling noise with flutter, nothing intelligible; maybe Cairo transmitter on after 2245? But I see in Aoki that at 23-24 only, RFA Chinese via Saipan is on 9900, so this may be a different kind of jamming than usual, if not the Saipan transmitter itself out of whack (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
