** CHINA. 9810, March 27 at 1317, heavy sitar-like music, good with heavy
flutter averaging S8; 1323 Chinese announcement. O, it`s only CNR-1, but during
the Sunday evening serious music show worth listening to on its own merits. Soon
found same on other jammed frequencies, 11540, 11640, etc. 9810 has no obvious
jamming target so maybe it`s legit, listed as CNR1 via Nanning. 11540 is against
IBB Tibetan via Kuwait, CCI audible there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** CUBA. 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 6165, March 27 at 0602, RHC is
still on, repeating the English hour for the eighth time, starting with some
anniversary about Sékou Touré, beloved Guinean commie; unlike yesterday when
they all went to dead air except 5040 which went off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March 27 at 1343, Radio Martí
has made its usual A-season jump from 13820 to 13605, and also as usual, the
DentroCuban Jamming Command hasn`t noticed, still grinding away on 13820 against
nothing, while 13605 is clear and loud, still so at 1441 with music live? from
Miami.
All they had to do was look at HFCC which has GB 13605 at 13-20
with only 62 kW (but sounds like more here, from 250 kW transmitter instead of
quarter-power). Looking thru the other GB entries in HFCC, I see another brand
new one: 7335 at 03-05, breaking away from 7365 before and after, for no
apparent reason. 7335 is supposedly the full 250 kW. 7405 will be used only in
the mornings at 12-14. 9805 is also reactivated for RM at 10-13 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GERMANY. 5905, March 27 at 0608, S8 signal
in slow clear German, frequently says ``Sie hören ---`` but I can`t copy what;
mentions of Meer. This is Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Weather Service), a 10
kW ND transmission from Pinneberg at 0600-0630 & 1200-1230. Unmodulated
carrier still on at 0623 recheck. I`d never really looked for it but now run
across it. Did not realize it`s H3E = CUSB mode so did not check for missing
LSB. That was B-15 sked so apparently not making a 1-hour MESZ shift (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDONESIA [and non]. 9525, March 27
at 1314, very poor talk S3-S5, maybe in English, as scheduled from VOI during
this hour. That`s an improvement over the usual JBA carrier or nothing at all.
Now the ACI from the China radio war is gone from 9530 as usual in the
A-seasons, which helps a lot. 9520 still has something a bit weaker than VOI,
presumably PBS Nei Menggu at 36 degrees USward, since RVA Philippines does not
start 9520 until 1330, now listed as westward in Chin instead of Sinhala last
year (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KOREA SOUTH. 5857.51-AM,
March 27 at 1308, very poor signal with talk, voice sounds YL. No doubt it`s
HLL2, Seoul, which provides metric weather info in English, as logged by Ron
Howard March 6 at 1217. Far enough from 5850 WRMI not to be a problem. Does not
qualify as a broadcaster for WRTH listing. Aoki won`t deal with split
frequencies so puts it on 5858: ``HLL Seoul Meteorological Radio 0000-2400
1234567 Korean/Japanese/English/Chinese 3 kW ND Seoul`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** NEW ZEALAND. 6170, March 27 at 1303, RNZI with
cricket news, on new A-16 frequency, ex-9700 which is vacant. Having just signed
on, it`s sufficient at S9+20, but in a sesquihour it`s faded into the noise
unlike 9700 would have. Bad for us and will only worsen into our growing summer
dayside. North Korea was occupying 6170 until today, nice coördination (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PALAU. 11805, March 27 at 1435, S9
gospel rock in English. Something new here: HFCC says T8WH ``HBN`` daily at
1430-1600 in English, 100 kW at 270 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** SPAIN. 17855, March 27 at 1441, REE back on A-season frequency
to North America, weekends only starting at 1400 instead of 1800, now S9+20 with
program about Cervantes and Don Quixote, rather than stupid ballgames, which
will surely follow later in the day. Replaces 9690 which they used all winter,
knowing nothing about Propagation 101 and was useless in our mornings (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 15550, March 27 at
1437 very poor signal, and slightly better on 15150, presumed R. Tamazuj on new
expanded one-hour schedule starting a semihour earlier than before: first part
1430-1500 both via VATICAN, altho 15150 is shown to be colliding with AWR Sri
Lanka.
Nothing on 15545, so apparently has resumed original 15550 which
was secretly shifted during B-15 leaving the Sudanese jammer behind against
companion PNW service Dabanga, which starts at 1530. That might still be on
15545, unchecked yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TIBET
[non]. 11997.0, March 27 at 1335, very poor signal on signature split-frequency
of V. of Tibet; no jamming from 11995 or 12000 at the moment. Aoki had this at
1315-1340 via TAJIKISTAN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S
A. 6080, March 27 at 0626, open carrier at S9 +20/30, atop pulse jamming, and
trace of music, presumably VOA São Tomé which Greenville is overriding, about to
sign on, a strange transmission being prolonged into A-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [and non]. 11550, March 27 at 1328, open
carrier atop some weaker station with talk, still no mod here past 1330. Suppose
it`s WEWN, normally // 12050 in Spanish which is nominal. At 1358 the OC/DA is
S9+20, and a few seconds before 1400, comes to life with WEWN Spanish ID and
then programming. 11550 is supposed to start WEWN at 1300. DST confusion
still?
Nothing in HFCC A-16 for the understation, but Ivo Ivanov has
11550 as North Korean clandestine National Unity Radio (ex-7515), at 1300-1600
via TAJIKISTAN, and on March 25 was // 11540 with 5 second delay! (that`s where
I was getting CNR1 jamming vs algo today; see CHINA) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** UZBEKISTAN. 12160, March 27 at 1338, S8 open
carrier/dead air vying with CODAR. A-16 HFCC has TWR, 100 kW, 131 degrees via
Tashkent at 1315-1630 in multiple languages (despite WWCR starting at 1500).
Another first-day-of-season/DST in Europe foulup, I suppose (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** YEMEN [non]. 11860.00, March 27 at 1310,
Republic of Yemen Radio still here in A-season, big S9+10 very good signal as
ever in Arabic about Sa`udi Arabia; 1333 talking about Yemen. If it`s now
colliding with a North Korean clandestine via Uzbekistan at 1330-1530, as in
HFCC (which still omits the Yemen service), I can`t detect that underneath.
11860 at 1432 is still S9+20 and no CCI audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 4766.0, March 27 at 1324, carrier at S4, still a
mystery (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 5961.091,
March 27 at 0607, JBA carrier. Reminds me of this: ``UNIDENTIFIED. 5961.53, Jan
6 [2016] at 0703, JBA carrier. Nothing reported in years around this
frequency``. I can`t rule out it being of local device origin, tho not noted in
the interim (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
