Glenn Hauser logs March 26-27, 2016

** ALBANIA. 7464.98, March 27 at 0042, R. Tirana Albanian to North America is still on the B-15 time and frequency, S9+15 with music and conversation. But by time for the English broadcast, it`s A-15, ex 0230 on 7465:

9854.95, March 27 at 0122, R. Tirana IS, at S9, good and as we had planned, no ACI or CCI. 0130 sign-on but still announcing the old B-15 times and frequencies. Hope by next broadcast Tuesday, Klara will have that updated. After news and talk features, at 0151 folkmusic, down to S5-S7.

And the Albanian hour from Sunday onwards will also be on 9855, at 2300-2400 (watch out for IBB Kuwait Tibetan and jamming coming up immediately afterwards for one hour) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 12150, March 27 at 0050, Spanish at S3 vs CODAR at S5, but enough to make a match with RHC on 11760, so this is 2 x 6075, as I figured last time I detected it. Keeping an ear on all doubles of RHC frequencies could be productive (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 13820, March 26 at 1859, R. Martí is closing hyper music show `Interferencia`, and frequency announcement says now on 9565 and 11930 --- NOT!! Clueless in the Miami studio, they are running announcements by local clock rather than UT, as IBB generally keeps RM frequency change times at the same UT before and after DST, so 9565 won`t come up for another hour. Speaking of interference, 13820 is well atop the jamming, and 11930 is way below the wall of noise, and yes, neither on 9565 yet. Their program schedule is a mess, with numerous gaps and contradixions,
showing nothing between 1330 and 1600 [EDT] Saturdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9964.86, March 27 at 0153, Cairo open carrier except for whine instead of Arabic. Strange how sometimes it`s on the plus side, sometimes minus side of 9965; different transmitters or different tuners? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GOA. 11741.0, March 27 at 0116, JBA carrier against a slightly stronger one on 11740.0, but shortly both of them are gone! This fits just right for AIR Sinhala service scheduled to end at 0115. Since it`s via Panaji site, more likely to have been accompanied by own spur out of defective 250 kW transmitter at 120 degrees, than to have been jammed. Other languages precede from 2245 including Tamil until 0045 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR [and non]. THE WORLD`S NEWEST SHORTWAVE STATION --- Madagascar World Voice, and I can claim to have heard their very first broadcast (altho who knows, they might well have tested earlier, but have seen no such reports).

9664.94, March 27 at 0045, Brasil`s Voz Missionária as always off-frequency but no het as nothing on 9665.0. At 0103, now there *is* QRM, no doubt Madagascar World Voice on its first frequency of the UT day and of the A-16 season, an hour allegedly in English, aimed 40 degrees to CIRAFs 41 and 42S, which means the four South Asian countries plus Nepal (and Tibet?). But it`s way under ZYE890, and I can`t copy a thing from MWV, other than the ~60 Hz hum/het it makes.

So World Christian Broadcasting scores again like with KNLS picking occupied frequencies (tho I admit Camboriú is not likely to QRM much in MWV target; yet, e.g. 9660 and 9670 have nothing on them during this hour per HFCC. No Brazilians are in HFCC so how could WCB possibly know about them?? Turning on a radio, maybe? Godforbid they should read DX bulletins). This collision continues for the rest of the hour, so what`s next?

6190, March 27 at 0159, carrier cuts on and off a few times; 0201 join in progress ``Gracias por su participación con nosotros``, lavozalegre.com o P O Box 327766, Fort Lauderdale, Florida ---- cuts off* the air before Zip code can be uttered. *0202:15 carrier back on, 0203 add modulation of gospelsong with harp; 0205 brief salvation story told by announcer with a slight gringo accent.

Anyhow, this 100 kW frequency is clear, and running S9+20. Its rather convoluted CIRAF targets on a 250 degree beam centered around Rio are: 12NE, 12S, 13, 14N, 14SE, 15W. That means South America, except Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and the rest of Patagonia (are there RF fences at those borders??)

6150 has another Spanish broadcast at 0300, so I retune there and find the same La Voz Alegre is opening again, and this time he gets the zipcode out, plus another postal address, in Cuba? Also clear frequency. This one is for CIRAF 12 only, the NW quadrant of South America as far as Guyana and Bolivia, 265 degrees, aimed at Cali.

WCB had talked about already broadcasting in Spanish via other stations. Apparently they were TWR Bonaire, WINB and WWCR, with long outdated/imaginary frequencies, via the vozalegre website:
So will those now be dropped if not already?

9480 is next for English at 0400, 295 degrees to CIRAF zones equal to north and west Africa as far as Libya, Chad and CAR, a bit early for those timezones; exiting the continent around the Sénégal/Mauritania border, and carrying on to cross North America from Tampa to Corpus Christi. Carrier is on at 0358 March 27, S9 to S9+10 but heavy fading impedes copy (the AGC makes it seem like less on the R75 meter).

0400 keyboard/trumpet and drumming, their themesong or IS? ``Good day, and welcome to our first broadcast`` --- does he have an African accent, or is it a US-African accent? Wastes no time in quoting Proverbs; ``we want our listeners to enjoy our magazine``, ramshorn? interrupts; program summary of lots of mag elements, like with KNLS. I wonder if they are going to include capsules about the host country, like KNLS does for Alaska, even tho it all comes from HQ in Tennessee. Including a 4-parter on ``making a difference in Africa``; mentions a song in Yoruba, then citing the lyrix in English; credit to www.putumayo.com and 0403 playing it.

I`m back to completing this report, but there will be plenty more opportunities to listen to MWV, and I daresay with more reliable reception from the antipodes than from Alaska. Did not axually hear an ID as Madagascar World Voice, and am not sure what they are really calling it. Here`s the full schedule as in BC-DX:

0100-0200  9665 MWV 100 kW 040 deg to SoAS  English
0200-0300  6190 MWV 100 kW 250 deg to SoAM  Spanish
0300-0400  6150 MWV 100 kW 265 deg to SoAM  Spanish
0400-0500  9480 MWV 100 kW 295 deg to CeAF  English
1800-1900  9570 MWV 100 kW 355 deg to EaEUR Russian
1800-1900 17640 MWV 100 kW 310 deg to CeAF  English
1900-2000 11945 MWV 100 kW 355 deg to NE/ME Arabic
1900-2000 13710 MWV 100 kW 340 deg to EaAF  Arabic
2100-2200 11615 MWV 100 kW 325 deg to WeEUR Chinese
2200-2300  9455 MWV 100 kW 055 deg to EaAS  Chinese
2200-2300 11770 MWV 100 kW 325 deg to NoAF  Arabic
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 6040, March 27 at 0046, The Mighty KBC via GERMANY is VG at S9+35. No complaints about reception this week, unlike last Saturday night; and the ZY +het is barely audible. At 0116, Uncle Eric announces, as he already told me, that altho the Sunday afternoon service to Europe on 6095 ends today, this North American service will continue at least until April 17, but ``need more donations for the survival of shortwave``. 0130 brings Kraig Krist`s ``Forgotten Song`` feature. Entire transmission is 00-03 UT Sundays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN [and non]. 11650, March 27 at 0114, CCI totaling S4. Last night Oman was in the clear, but tonight we have a typical season-transition collision, with Oman still on its B-15 frequency, and CRI Chinese via Urumqi already on its A-16 frequency during this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, March 27 until 0111:01*, R. Chaski autocutoff, and now there`s nothing, as BBCWS in Hindi via UAE is no longer colliding in A-16 season underway. This is 12.5 seconds later than a binite ago, March 25 until 0110:48.5*, 6.25 per. Now it`s easier to time it, but I`m pleased to have been able to track it anyway thru the B-season as Chaski beat against the BBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PHILIPPINES. 15560, March 27 at 0128, S2 signal with S or SE Asian language? Must be FEBC in Javanese, 100 kW, 200 degrees via Bocaue site at 0100-0130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 7335, S9+40 // 9790 S9, UT Sunday March 27 at 0102, RRI is opening weekly classical music hour at new summer time and frequencies, to contain Schubert, Wieniawski, Lalo. I keep one ear on that while continuing to bandscan with the other. Alan Roe translates the title of this program as Radio Concert Season. And shifting another listing of his, listen for an hour of folk music 23 hours later, UT Mondays until 0056 on same channels (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9370, March 27 at 0137, WWRBS still on day frequency instead of 3185, and still inbooming too, as Brother HyStairical is bragging about how he spent a million dollars in 21 days buying airtime to keep TOM going for the rest of the year. What a waste!! But it keeps SW stations like WWRB, and WRMI in business, and the latter able to devote a small fraxion of remaining airtime to worthwhile programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7425, March 27 at 0144, R. Martí Spanish audio at S5 out of the Greenville 7365 transmitter, since one next to it on 7305 is already on with carrier, producing leapfrog, 0145 opening Radio Vaticana relay in Spanish, and now both are mixing on 7425 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1818 monitoring: confirmed the Sat 2230 broadcast on WBCQ, measured at 2235 March 26 on 9329.865, poor in noise level. Also confirmed from 0326 UT Sunday March 27 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM. Next:
Sun 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0300v  WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1100   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100   WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3195, March 27 at 0138, some hypo gospel huxter, a pleasant respite from all the hyper ones, WWRB active on this frequency, but BS is still on 9370, not 3185 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7504.9, March 27 at 0142, WRNO with open carrier/dead S9+45 air. I think they were modulating when I tuned by earlier, but dead air is not unusual for them; what a waste (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 12005, March 27 at 0107, VOV is back on A-season frequency of English to North America via Woofferton UK, very poor so far, unlike ex-6175 which is now vacant. Too bad such abrupt major band changes are required only two times a year. Interim 9 MHz band would have been prudent. This applies to English at 0100 & 0230 with an hour of Vietnamese between; but the 0300-0430 block in Spanish-English-Spanish is still on 6175 via WHRI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6165, March 27 at 0052, RHC carrier already on but there`s some JBA music underneath. No SAH/LAH so doubt it`s Chad extended overnight; in new HFCC A-16 sked, a CNR service out of Beijing is on 6165 until 0100; but that`s 9 am local (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7610-, March 27 at 0141, very poor music, S6, slightly on the lo side. Old & new HFCC skeds have nothing on 7610, nor Aoki, so could it be as Manuel Méndez, Spain recently reported, the Italian pirate on late? ``7610, Radio Latino, 2043, 19-03, now on air with good signal, music and several identifications, Good signal, 34433`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
