** ALBANIA. 9855, Sunday March 29 at 2302, something here with music and talk,
presumed R. Tirana on new frequency for Albanian hour to N America, but only
poor vs local noise level. 9850 should be the new frequency for English at 0130
from UT Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ANGUILLA
[non]. 12025, March 30 at 0124, fair signal with Iran in Spanish has CCI
underneath from a YL in English --- sure sounds like Pastor Melissa Scott ---
new relay for her??? On second receiver I compare to 5935 and yes, there`s a
match. But when first receiver, PL-880 switches in attenuation, she vanishes, so
it`s a receiver-overload mixing product, tho I am only using a few meters of
random reel-out wire under the eaves on the porch.
More astounding is
the math of this mix: 5935 WWCR plus 6090 Anguilla = 12025, which are totally
separate but both carrying the same program, PMS! What a coincidence. There
could be numerous other overload mixes around 12 MHz from strong 6 MHz band
signals which are not duplicative (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** AUSTRALIA. 11590, March 30 at 1344, RBA is NOT in English as
registered in HFCC for KNX HCA HCA, but S Asian song and talk; 1357 YL with a PO
Box, namaskar; 1400 seems to switch language with OM announcer, but still not
English; 1415 S Asian song, 1419 still language. Final check at 1458, now it`s
in English!
Seems that RBA totally jumbles scheduling from one season to
the next, becoming ever more complex, but it`s all spelt out on their website,
or
more conveniently reached beyond:
11590
is axually in English only at 1445-1530 daily while at 1330-1400 it`s Hindi,
1400-1445 variety of other languages. 11590 is designated for ``South Asia -
South``. But there is another frequency, 15340 for ``South Asia - North``, which
now ALSO has English at 1445-1530, some of it matching 11590, some of it not!
This one starts at 1300 in various languages, 1415-1445 Urdu daily. I hear it at
1458 check, but very poor compared to 11590. There is only a 5-degree difference
in azimuths, 305 on 11590, 310 on 15340, per HFCC A-15. I suppose the hymn
medley runups will be heard from 1325 and 1255 respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 13890, March 30 at 1358, CNR1 jammer,
good
13830, March 30 at 1358, CNR1 jammer, fair
16530, March 30 at 1359,
CNR1 jammer, poor
16100, March 30 at 1359, CNR1 jammer, very good with
flutter
Quick scan of 12-18 MHz did not find any others, but I really started
too late before hourend* and even so was putting off breakfast (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 11880 // 5040, March 29 at 2309, RHC
English starting `DXers Unlimited`, Arnie Coro degraded voice quality on the
phone after the studio-produced standard opening. 11880 is stronger but 5040 is
louder (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 13605,
March 29 at 1936, R. Martí is still loud & clear here, as the lethargic
DentroCuban Jamming Command keeps its wall-of-noise on ex-13820.
Also:
6030 & 7405, March 30 at 0556, wall-of-noise jamming and can`t
detect any R. Marti beneath, which is usually possible on 7405 at least, so this
being Monday, suspect RM has resumed a Monday-morning silent period. Yes! HFCC
now shows day-2 is skipped at 03-07 on 7405, 07-09 on 5980, and 03-09 on 6030.
Amend the full RM schedule I recently promulgated. Now if the DCJC would only
catch on and let us hear Calgary or something else, but DHYB.
11930,
March 30 at 1425, wall-of-noise jamming, maybe R. Martí JBA underneath it; while
13605 remains very good in clear with no jamming until the DCJC catch on that
its nemesis is lingering no longer on 13820 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 9965, March 29 at 2305, open carrier with humwhine,
then some just-barely-modulated music and talk seems like it is English, so R.
Cairo unchanged for this so-called North American sesquihour (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** IRAN. 11890, March 30 at 0123, VIRI IS, very good
with flutter, 55-63 dbu on the PL-880, brief mumbled opening by YL, NA in
standard opening procedure. HFCC shows it`s the Kazakh hour at 0120-0220, 500
kW, 5 degrees from Sirjan, yet serving Oklahoma well! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN. 6020, March 30 at 1332, very poor signal in
Japanese(?) with piano, believed to be Shiokaze having made another periodic
frequency jump, as no longer traced on 5985. 6020 is among the ``JIC`` Yamata
290-degree alternative frequencies registered, at 1330-1430. Whatever, 6 MHz
band is no use this far east during the summer daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN [non]. 11705, March 30 at 1419, NHK World
Radio Japan in English with Japanese lesson, fair, but ACI from stronger 11710
VOK in French. Nevertheless, 11705 should be one of our better chances for NHK
English, 1400-1430 despite due west via PALAU; // 15735 via UZBEKISTAN
southwards unchecked but surely inferior if at all. Some days, VOK is likely to
be absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KURDISTAN [non].
11510, March 30 at 1345, very poor signal, presumed Denge Kurdistane, back on
summer frequency ex-9400. 11510 is HFCC-registered all the way from 03 to 19 via
KCH = PRIDNESTROVYE, but one can never be sure what other sites will really be
switched around for it. Last A-season, 11510 was often sufficiently good during
this enjoyable mostly-music hour, still so anticipated. But remains very poor at
1418 recheck with talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO.
1100, March 30 at 0515, I sit on this frequency for a while, as there is Mexican
music without too much WTAM even tho I`m not nulling it, but instead some local
noise source. There are SHVA (super-hype voice actor) exclamations between each
tune, but difficult to copy. Try speaking in a normal tone of voice? No way!
Finally at 0530 a peak allows me to make out a ``Radio Cañón, 90.1 FM`` ID, then
a political for Partido Humanista; so it`s XETGO, Tlaltenango, Zacatecas,
30000/400 watts, really? It sounds like less than 30 kW, but more than 400
watts. I already heard it recently and also has been reported much further into
El Norte. Seems to be the dominant XE on 1100 now among five or seven others
listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NEW ZEALAND. 6170,
March 30 at 1328, here is RNZI on its reactivated A-season/winter frequency,
ex-9700. Wrapping up `Dateline Pacific`. Good signal now, starting at 1259, but
it will get worse and worse as our sun rises earlier and earlier. 9700 is now
scheduled until 1258 but it`s back on the NW antenna, rather than the NE, so not
so good for us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 7415,
March 30 at 0554, good signal with chanting & percussion, not // 11650
Dabanga, so what`s this? 0559 mentions Obama, bit of music and off 0559.5*. HFCC
shows it`s ASCENSION, 250 kW, 55 degrees at 0500-0600 in ``Kau`` which means
Kanuri language. Therefore it`s the new A-15 frequency for Dandal Kura to the
Boko Haram area of Nigeria (and the other broadcast at 18-19 is still listed on
12050) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA [and non].
90.1, KUCO Edmond, Sunday March 29 at 2100 UT, I am expecting to hear another
episode of `Mad About Music` from WNYC/WQXR via WFMT syndication, but instead
it`s `New Music from Bowling Green`, a show I have also been following at 03-04
UT Mondays. Yet, the current KUCO program grid,
claims
the 4 pm CDT Sunday show is now `Relevant Tones`, yet another one I would like,
and at 10 pm Sunday, a new one, `Song: Mirror of the World` --- but tonight at
0300 UT March 30, `Bowling Green` is repeated!
All mixed up; and maybe
the sked is really not effective until April? Anyhow, `Mad` appears to be gone
from KUCO, but I catch this week`s episode with Pierre Boulez, instead on
Yellowstone Public Radio, Monday at 17-18 UT. Only one more subject for that
linked at YPR, April 6: ``Financier FELIX ROHATYN on his love for the cello and
Yo-Yo Ma`, so maybe it`s about to expire there too?
Listening direct to
90.1 at 1800 UT March 30, wrapping up final hours of pledge drive, Kimberly
forgot to give any legal ID, neither KZCU nor KCSC for 95.9 Woodward satellite.
She does get in the legal IDs at 1811 UT, still KZCU, I guess till April 1
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 15355, March 29
at 2307, hunting around for Oman on one of its possible frequencies, hear
Tagalog instead of Arabic: yes, HFCC shows at 2300-2330 only, it`s RVA in
Filipino, 250 kW non-direxional, but CIRAF targets are 42-45 which = Chinas,
Koreas and Japan; poor signal with W&M chat. So there are plenty of Filipin@s in those countries? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN [and non]. 17850, March 29 at 1934, French
here, poor with ACI from much stronger Spain 17855, with silly ballgame. HFCC
shows RFI in French is scheduled on 17850 now at 17-20 (also Persian 1430-1500).
This is ABSURD! Scads of open frequencies on 16m and these two wind up adjacent,
just as they are on the map! It`s Spain`s fault as 17855 is a new frequency for
them, while FRANCE has used 17850 for a longtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** SUDAN [non]. 11650, March 30 at 0547, really wild shouts and
echoes, what`s this? 0548 R. Dabanga spoken ID, good signal with no jamming on
new frequency for A-15. HFCC shows it`s via VATICAN at 0430-0600, so we know it
must be preceded by companion R. Tamazuj at 0400-0430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** TURKEY [and non]. 11980, March 30 at 0549, Turkish
music, fair-good, as TRT has made its usual switch to summer frequency until
0557, ex-9700, which is now reoccupied by Romania in English for A-15. 11980 now
scheduled 04-06 at 310 degrees to W Europe, and consequently N America beyond, a
good source for late-night musical accompaniment, with reception expected to
improve (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U K [non]. 7445, March
30 at 0553, BBCWS in English is VG, awaiting Nigerian elexion results. Was
already here in B-14 but continues in A-15, 05-07 via ASCENSION, but with beam
switch at 06 from 102 to 65 degrees, which lessens signal here off the back
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 7460, March 30 at
1336, VOA Korean with song not in English, very good but with SSB ACI, probably
a MARS net; // and synchronized with 11990, then talks about civil rights, also
// weaker 11935 not synch. 7460 is 21 degrees from Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 12-15,
just as I suspected, since its 21-degree beam also shoves good signals into
North America far beyond Korea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
**
U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1766 monitoring: confirmed Sunday March 29 at 2300 still
on 11580, only fair here with deep fades. Transmitter #9 here remains on 44
degree azimuth, so should be good in Europe, but almost off the side toward
here.
(Meanwhile other WRMI frequencies on more favorable beams are much
stronger at same time: 5850, 315 degrees, good with Global 24 oldtime radio;
11825, 355 degrees, very good with `Jazz from the Left` --- these are weekends
only. 9955 has wall-of-noise jamming, 7570 with the Brother Scare moanin` &
groanin` hour).
At 0130 March 30 I noticed that there was no signal on
5110, boding ill for next airing of WOR on WBCQ. Yes, no signal at 0306 either,
but WOR confirmed starting at 0300 on Area 51 webcast. I ask Larry Will, and he
explains ``The transmitter was down last night; it appears the exciter is having
issues.`` Next:

** U S A. (5110), WBCQ not on air, but
0259 UT March 30 I bring up the webcast to check on WORLD OF RADIO (which is
back on at proper time this week). I just hear the outro not by John Lightning,
but ``Dave`` ending a ``tribute to Big Steve`` --- oh, oh. That would be Big
Steve Cole, from whom we have not heard for several years. I ask Larry
Will:
``What was that? Not on the worldmicroscope schedule as such. I
also see there was a John H Carver BBQ last night. Wonder what that was,
something he produced? 73, Glenn`` Larry replies:
``John Lightning's show
was hosted by Dave the Boogie Man last night.
Big Steve Cole passed away
Sunday afternoon after a long illness. John
has a nice tribute on his web
site http://www.johnlightning.com
John
Carver didn't produce a show for us, but he did inspire the
Saturday 0300
Grateful Dead-themed show. Regards, Lw`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, March 30 at 1355, KVOH is already on early with
praise music, and what`s more, already propagating well as SSOB (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5830, March 30 at 0557 as I tune
across here, WTWW-1 is missing, but within seconds pops back on during a manly
song; it seems any female voices are banned from SFAW, even as psychophants.
Slight carrier wobble with BFO. No telling how long it had been off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VATICAN [and non]. 6070, March 30 at
0555, choir is atop CFRX and making fast SAH with it, as Vatican Radio doggedly
stix to this frequency for another season, altho shifting this morning mass one
UT hour earlier; and also conflicting with the low-power German on
6070.
Just after I dispatched previous report about VR website no longer
working, updated linx arrived in the new edition of Alan Roe`s Hitlist,
Vatican
specials now accessible here, notably ``holy week`` in UT +2:
but
what I heard, Portuguese on a Vietnamese frequency, was not among
them.
12050, March 30 at 1341, ``R. Vaticana, la Radio del Papa`` ID as I
tune in WEWN, noting the usual squeal accompanying this transmitter, and now
also with hum, like on 11870 at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
