** BANGLADESH. 15505, March 2 at 1359, Bangladesh Betar IS, mistimesignal ending
at 1359:30, opening Urdu, very poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11813 & 11747, March 2 at 0625, the 11780.1v
RNA/RNB distorted, crackly spurs are very poorly audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [non]. 17790, March 2 at 1441 and
1528 chex, no signal from R. Africa Network via WRMI; next check at 1612, it is
on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 17850,
Monday March 2 at 1615, Oromo Voice via FRANCE is opening weekly English
segment; YL says ``every Monday at 7:15 pm [Ogaden?] time``; into talk by OM.
LSB synch detexion on the PL-880 helps a little, but too much DRM noise jamming
to understand anything further (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
**
IRAN. 13820, March 2 at 0627, Qur`an, very poor, then talk mixed with overtime
Cuban pulse jamming against Martí[non]. HFCC shows the Albanian hour of VIRI via
Kamalabad has just opened. Overnight MUF is picking up with spring oncoming
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 960, March 2 at 0601,
XEK Nuevo Laredo with ID and choral NA, atop the QRM during the Fox-hole of no
modulation from local KGWA, once it is carefully nulled. From March 9 due to the
imposition of daylight shifting, the KGWA Fox-hole will move to 0500-0505 UT,
but not every night. Being from a border city subject to American economic
pressure, XEK should also move to CDT early, retaining the NA at local midnite
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 15120, March 2 at
0630, good carrier, just barely modulated music, so VON has improved over 24
hours earlier when no modulation at all could be detected, but still useless
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 15620, March 2 at
1401, good signal with gamelan bells, talk sounds Indonesian mentioning SMS
number. This really stands out, while 15610 WEWN is JBA. HFCC shows it`s
Javanese instead at 1400-1430, 100 kW, 200 degrees from FEBC Bocaue. I wonder
how close Javanese is to Bahasa Indonesia, to what extent they are mutually
understandable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** RWANDA. 15700,
March 2 at 0628 something with music, off at 0630 recheck. HFCC shows it was AWR
in French via Kigali. This is a broadcast eligible for special QSL stamp,
offered by Adrian Peterson:
``ADVENTIST WORLD RADIO OFFERS SPECIAL QSL
STAMP FOR KIGALI BROADCASTS
At the beginning of this current Transmission
Period B14 October 6,
2014, Adventist World Radio began a relay service from
the Deutsche
Welle shortwave relay station near Kigali in Rwanda Africa. The
AWR
relay via DW Kigali is on the air for a total of 2½ transmitter hours
daily in three languages, French, Amharic & Fulfulde. In one
particular time block, two transmitters carry the programming in
parallel.
However, Deutsche Welle has subsequently announced that
they plan to
close their African relay station at the end of this current
Transmission Period B14 March 28, 2015 and then dismantle the station.
The last AWR broadcasts from DW Kigali will therefore also end at the
same time.
For those who would like to receive a QSL card for these
now short
term broadcasts, AWR would welcome all reception reports from
listeners in any part of the world. Each reception report will be
verified with a QSL card (not an Email QSL), and the envelope will be
affixed with genuine postage stamps, not postal labels. In addition,
while supplies last, a special QSL stamp showing Kigali will be
attached
to the QSL card.
It is not necessary to send an off-air recording of your
reception. We
just need your honest reception report on paper. Where
possible,
please enclose return postage in the form of currency notes in any
international currency, or mint postage stamps. Please note that IRC
coupons are too expensive for you to buy, and they are no longer valid
in the United States. Also please enclose your address label.
The
only address for the special Kigali QSL stamp is the Indianapolis
address
at:-
Adventist World Radio, Box 29235, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229,
USA.
All reception reports, including all that have already been
received,
will be QSLed in due course. However, please be patient with us as
we
already hold uncounted hundreds of reception reports still pending,
and it may take us many months to process them all.
The current AWR
website shows the following scheduling for the daily
Kigali transmissions:-
0600 - 0630 15700 French
0600 - 0630 17800 French
1700 - 1730 9490
Amharic
1930 - 2000 17800 Fulfulde
2000 - 2030 17800 French``
As
in DXLD 15-08. The 17800 broadcasts also put good signals into North America.
But will the real postage stamps on the mail be from real Rwanda? I suppose that
would be too much to expect. It`s also not clear whether the ``special QSL
stamp`` is rubber or paper (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

SUDAN [non]. 15550, March 2 at 1502, no signal from R. Tamazuj via VATICAN; //
15400 has an open carrier only, but it`s off by 1504. However, third //, 13800
via MADAGASCAR is on at 1505, good signal in Arabish, no jamming heard. It seems
that Santa Maria di Galeria has a hard time getting the program feed reliably
from Amsterdam(?).
The other SMG relay, of RVA on 15100 is good as usual
with some echo. Not checked again until 1611 during Dabanga, when 13800 has
become a JBA carrier, and 15550 lacks Dabanga, just tone jamming and WJHR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TIBET [non]. 15525, March 2 at 1507,
V. of Tibet via MADAGASCAR is still jumping up 5 to 15530, vs ChiCom jamming
which I can`t hear here before or after on either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 13565.0, March 2 at 1506, JBA CW beacon
K6FRC, frequency matched to a weak broadcaster on 9565. This is in Patterson CA,
heard several times before. But gone at 1507. In regular chex of the 13550-13570
HIFER band, I have ever only heard this and five other stations, AJO, AZ, GNK,
MTI and SZX. This listing, updated 24 Feb 2015, shows 13 others, mostly around
13555:
http://www.lwca.org/sitepage/part15/index.htm
I
wonder how many of those are really active, maybe only sporadically (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1762
monitoring: confirmed on WRMI 11580, Sunday March 1 at 2300. Also confirmed on
webcast of Area 51, UT Monday March 2 at 0401, presumably also on WBCQ 5110v.
Next:
Mon 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Tue 1200 on WRMI 9955
Wed
0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Wed 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio
7265-CUSB
Wed 1415 on WRMI 9955
Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on
Global 24 via WRMI 9395
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S
A. 1000, March 2 at 0606 UT, sports talk in English, basketball, ESPN maybe
mentioned in passing, shortly confirmed same as local 1390 KCRC, but 1000 with
quite a delay. This is overpowering KTOK OKC; in fact, I must null the ESPN to
hear KTOK on groundwave. Therefore it`s 50 kW WMVP in Chicago, and must be on
day pattern which has a lobe to the west (but more to the east), while night
pattern has a deep cardioid null to the west. Usual occupant of KTOK when nulled
is Juárez or when it`s cheating, Albuquerque (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 1520, March 2 at 0624 UT with KOKC nulled, briefly hear
``on 105.7``. Normally the dominant would be KOLM Rochester MN; but its website
makes no mention of an FM, which it surely would if one existed. There is a
105.7 translator in Rochester, K259BO, but WTFDA FM database says it relays
KJCY, contemporary Christian. There might have been a flip, but FCC FM & AM
Query show separate licensees.
So to the NRC AM Log for 1520 --- is a
105.7 // mentioned anywhere? Yes! WLGC Greenup KY, 5 kW daytimer, ID as ``Kool
Hits 105.7 Newschannel``, address in Ashland. WLGC-FM is also the only 1520 //
hit on 105.7 WTFDA FM database listings, but those don`t always show the AM
frequency. So make it a tentative (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
