** BRAZIL. 11747 & 11813, Feb 28 at 0647, crackling spurs from RNA/RNB
11780.1v remain, as obviously nothing is being done about them, and my frequent
reports appearing i.a. on the radioescutas group are no longer spurring anyone
to action (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 17730, Feb 28
at 1421, RHC is doing an annoying voice-over translation from English to
Spanish, evidently from a (live?) press conference in Wáshington about the
negotiations to normalize diplomatic relations with USA. Mentions Vienna
Convention. It`s annoying because the original English is about as loud as the
Spanish, and I am unable to ignore one and concentrate on the other. Do they
ever listen to their own broadcasts and notice such a problem? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ETHIOPIA [non]. 15515, Sat Feb 28 at 1502,
poor signal in unID language. Only thing at this hour in HFCC B-14 is
``Milano``, i.e. IRRS, 150 kW, 145 degrees in Somali on day-6 only == Friday.
That was R. Xoriyo, as in WRTH 2015, of the Ogaden National Liberation
Front.
Aoki has it better now: ``15515 Raadiyoo Warra Wangeelaa 1500-1530
Day-7 = Sat Oromo/English 150 165 Saftica ROU 4442N 02606E IRRS b14``
I.e.
via ROMANIA. And no more Xoriyo on this frequency.
The first log we had
of RWW was Oct 4, 2014 from Kouji Hashimoto, Japan. But did not make it into
WRTH 2015, not in Target Broadcasts section under Somalia, Ethiopia, or Eritrea.
A version 2 of B-14 pdf update has now been posted dated 23 Feb:
It
is in there, not under Targets, but under ITALY, IRRS as if it is not
clandestine. Per Facebook it is instead religious [Christian]:
``Radio
Warra Wangeelaa is a weekly Afan Oromo Gospel radio to the Horn of Africa. The
radio broadcasts every Saturday 15:00-15:30 GMT on 15515 kHz on SW`` http://www.uoece.org/
Back in the WRTH
2015 itself, page 470, IRRS listings do not include either 15515 broadcast. The
V2 update has a few additions in red, such as two targets to NIGERIA, but still
misses ISRAEL being back on SW, tnx to WRN via Global 24 via WRMI 9395 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ETHIOPIA [non]. 17850, Sat Feb 28 at
1602, fair signal in unID language, lo-fi talk, no jamming until noise (DRM?)
starts at 1603.5. Latest HFCC has nothing on 17850 between 15 and 17, but RFI
Issouodun before and after. Aoki, however, maintains an A14 schedule:
``17850
Oromo Voice Radio 1600-1630 .2.4..7 Oromo 100 130 Issoudun F 4657N 00159E OVR
a14``
The Ethiopian DRM jamming is a constant problem for VOA Radiogram
reception in Germany, say Roger`s weekly reports, bleeding over onto 17860 where
we are hearing its toning clearly. This is also the one reported with an English
broadcast on Mondays only at 1616-1630, Radiyo Sagalee Oromoo, Oromo Voice
Radio. It`s in WRTH 2015 page 507 in the Target sexion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** IRAN [non]. 9430, Feb 28 at 0217, fair signal with
ME-ish song, at first wondering if Greece had jumped up to here from 9420, but
it`s only Radio Farda per ID which soon follows; this at 02-05 via Lampertheim,
GERMANY, and Greece is still AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 21540, Feb 28 at 1418, R. Kuwait is still missing, and
21505 Sa`udi is still there to prove propagation is not the cause. Ivo Ivanov
reported Feb 25 that since Feb 24, one of the transmitters was temporarily off,
which silences all of the following: 05-09 15515 Arabic, 10-12 21580 Filipino,
1205-1555 21540 Arabic, 16-18 15540 Urdu, 18-21 15540 English (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9395, Sat Feb 28 at 1326,
Global 24 via WRMI during `Happy Station`, Keith Perron discussing the deletion
of Radio Nederland Wereldomroep`s online archives as ``audio genocide``. His
comments strongly resemble those in a DXLD yg post this week. More about this
currently atop the homepage of http://pcjmedia.com ending with an address he
also spelt on the air for those who would like to object: save.the.archive.of.rnw@gmail.com
--- don`t forget all the dots, or ``periods`` as Keith calls them (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NEW ZEALAND. 11725-AM, Sat Feb 28 at 0649,
just as I am tuning in to enjoy a bit of RNZN`s Saturday-night request show,
usual good signal playing some music from the 1930s, dumps off the air at 0650*
and never comes back by final check 0721. 11725 is supposed to stay on until
0759 switch to AM 9765, but this cutoff is suspicious, as 0651 is the scheduled
time for DRM to start on 11690, but M-F only. Another mixup in computer
automation programming? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU
[and non]. 5980, Feb 28 at 0103, JBA carriers beating slightly against each
other, I monitor intently so that I can tell when one of them goes off:
0103:40.5*, leaving an even weaker single signal, i.e. BBCWS via UAE. So the
offing one was R. Chaski. Last time checked was Feb 21 when the cutoff was
0102:59.5*, i.e. 41 seconds earlier and 7 days earlier, averaging 5.86 seconds
earlier per, just right according to my repeated monitoring over the past
biyear, the rate of slippage by their autocutoff timer before it`s eventually
reset earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN. 12030 //
11940 // much stronger 9620, Feb 27 at 2127, REE in Spanish on three old
frequencies, but if on 11685, the JBA signal is not matchable. Widespread
publicity came out that REE would finally move to some better, higher
frequencies starting this date, but it did not happen. How about tomorrow, since
after all, nothing is more important than weekend stupid
ballgames?
15490, Sat Feb 28 at 1503, REE now on this new frequency, very
good signal, with SBG coverage, a bit of SP/LP echo. But still nothing on the
other promised NF, 17755. Also poor on 12030; JBA carrier, else? on 11940?
Nothing audible here on 9620, not surprising across midday path. At 1600, still
no REE on 17 MHz.
Wolfgang Büschel hears 9620, 12030, 15490 only and says
after 16, 15490 is a terrible choice, colliding with AWR via South Africa; while
9620 altho aimed westward, collides in Germany with East Turkistan and India.
Per Ivo Ivanov, the plan was/is for these changes: 17755 ex-11685; 17715
ex-11940; 15490 ex-12030; apparently maintaining 9620: 19-23 weekdays, 15-23
weekends.
An earlier version dated Feb 25 in a press release from AER
which has been lobbying for such changes, made no mention of 15490,
instead:
17755 ex-11685, 17715 ex-11940; still on 9620, 12030
(Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [non]. 15550 & 15400, Sat
Feb 28 at 1500, R. Tamazuj is back on both VATICAN relay frequencies, i.e. the
defacto bigsig North American service. No tone jamming yet; at 1530, 15400 is
off as usual, and still no tone jamming on 15550 as R. Dabanga is beginning,
just the collision with WJHR-USB. By 1558 recheck, now the tone jamming can also
be heard on 15550.
Now at 1559 Feb 28 I check // 13800 with weaker
signal and tone jamming too; no break in transmission for scheduled switch from
Madagascar to SMG Vatican site, and seems to be synch with 15550, so the switch
probably happened 2 or 3 minutes earlier.
Now why were both Tamazuj
Vatican frequencies missing on Feb 27? Maybe it`s a regular Friday-off thing
from Islamic influence? But not noticed before, and WRTH listings claim it`s on
daily. BTW, Tamazuj is for both Sudan and Sudan South, while Dabanga is for the
Darfur region of western Sudan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

sufficient on WRMI 7570 & 15770; currently the two are about equal here, the

but not so absorbed. Next:

** U S A. 7490, Feb 28 at 0120, WBCQ with `Allan
Weiner Worldwide`. I think it`s // 5110, but AW is saying he forgot that a live
feed from the Winter SWL Fest was planned, so after phoning master control, now
5110 splits away for that while he continues on 7490.
5110, Feb 28 at
0125, Larry Will and guests with informal chat from the SWL Winterfest in PA,
mixed with music such as ``Stair`s Way to Heaven``, har har. At 0208 & 0241
rechex segments (repeated?) about Edward Snowden, presumably now amid the
scheduled 02-03 UT Sat program `WAZU` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

** U S A. 7570, Feb 28 at 0300, as per a little previous
publicity, WRMI cuts away from Brother Scare for a special live broadcast hosted
by David Goren from the SWL Winterfest in PA, `Shortwave Shindig`. Live except
for several clip segments, starting with a mélange of archive SW IDs and ISes;
finally 0306 opening claims to be on ``7575 kHz``; and elevators in hotel are
not working so everyone is getting lots of exercise on the stairs. Jeff White
has donated the airtime, so he`s interviewed (not there, as he was at Okeechobee
to be sure all the connexions were properly made), saying 13 of the 14
transmitters are now in use, and hope the last one will be later this year.
Airtime adds up to about 200 hours per day, fluxuating.
How is Global 24
doing? Jeff says maybe they underestimated what they were getting into with a
24/7 service, rather than their initial idea, 2 or 3 half-hour ham radio
programs, but he`s helping them out as much as possible and hopes G24 succeeds,
as it`s something he himself had always wanted to do. After a bit of music, at
0318 more from Jeff, this time describing the site on a cattle ranch, to the
accompaniment of moos (nothing heard from gators who also live next to the
building).
0321 a segment of a variety of people describing how they got
into SWLing as children, in several cases tnx to parents who worked in
electronix bringing home radios for them. Jim Strader was first; not all were
identified, but we certainly recognized Marie Lamb. Everything stops at 0348
when the modulation goes dead, finally back up at 0352 with music, 0359
``Grayline Fever`` song about DXing, past 0400, performance attributed to Saul
Broudy [W3WHK]. Announcement that show will stay on past 0400 due to the
previous outage. Then Spectral Wars by Tom Miller; a Bob & Ray routine; 0414
`Grayline Fever` performed again by Saul Broudy and Jack Widner. Goren wraps it
up with referral to 162.244.80.21:8940/listen.pls for continued listening. I was
getting it then only with some music, labeled SWL Fest.
0419 jarring
rejoin to Brother Scare amid something about a ``black boy``. Signal thruout was
VG as it is for BS, presumably staying on the NW 315 degree beam which ought to
be used for all other secular RMI programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
