Solar flare hits Earth, causing a ‘blackout’ as the Sun unleashes a’strong’ energy explosion.
According to space weather analysts, a POWERFUL discharge of energy from the Sun impacted the planet today, triggering a radio blackout across sections of the globe.
On Tuesday, an active zone on the Sun erupted into life, releasing an M2-class or “medium-large” solar flare. On the Sun’s northeastern side, the unexpected surge of energy was detected at about 5.01pm GMT. An strong burst of light erupts from the Sun’s surface, as seen in a series of photos captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory.
The flare appears to have knocked off some radio communications over the Americas, according to the website SpaceWeather.com.
