** U S A. Stephen Luce, Houston TX, replies to my 1310 KZIP log:

``Glenn, about KZIP: Yes the transmitter tower is right next to I-40 just east of Hope Road, and easy to see when driving by. Built in 1978, the tower is also used by what is now KPRF 98.7 which originally signed on that year. Both the AM and FM were co-owned in the late 70's when 1310 was a Country Music station, and 98.7 was Album Rock KYTX (I lived in Amarillo at the time and recall hearing the original transmitter tests for 98.7 during the early morning hours while driving to work.) KZIP was sold around 1981 flipping to a Spanish language format, while 98.7 has had several owners, call signs, and formats over the years.

Only things even vaguely resembling a valley in the Amarillo area would be either Palo Duro Canyon or Lake Meredith, unlikely origins of the ownership name. The Texas Panhandle is not completely flat, if you take the time to explore it. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` Yes, Palo Duro is quite scenic, a minature Grand (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9501.15-USB approx., Oct 7 at 1435, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
