** BRAZIL. 4824.98 approx., March 17 at 0055, singing and praising, same at 0102 after my TOH Chaski-check, which may be why I still haven`t caught an ID from whichever ZY this be (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 11965, March 16 at 1822, CNR1 jammer VG with dramatic Chinese talk and music, also on weaker // 11945 and weakest // 11790, all vs R. Free Asia in Mandarin, via Tinian, Tajikistan, Saipan respectively. At this hour it seems the only band propagating this stuff is 25m, not 22 or 31.
11925, March 16 at 2220, poor in Chinese, probably CNR1 against VOA Chinese via Tinang. At 2247 a LAH had been added to the jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. RHC chex Saturday afternoon March 16, bound to find some anomalies:
15340 at 2102, signing on the bihour `Revista Iberoamericana`, also // 11840 where modulation has dropped to very low level, but not the buzz, which is on and off plus/minus 20 kHz or so; // 17705.
15230 at 2158 is open carrier, and at 2202 in Portuguese, so now I know what became of the 23-24 Portuguese on 15230 --- moved it an hour earlier, even tho that makes no sense for Brasil. Furthermore, it`s now // but an echo apart from 11880 at 2200+, which was originally French at 2100, Portuguese at 2230 before shifting an hour *later* for DST. Further2more, at 2234, both are still in Portuguese, so forget French to Africa on 11880, but it is on 15370 as usual (except Sundays pre-empted for Esperanto). Next check at 2305, now 11880 has lost English which had been on here for about 5 days as it now stays in Spanish // 15230 and all the other frequencies for the mostly-music-fill hour, also 17705, 11840, 9810, 6120; but 5040 keeps English at 23-24.
At 0111 UT March 17 check I find that 11880 is *still* on the air in Spanish instead of closing at 2400, // 17705, 15230, 11760, 9810, 6120, 6060, 5040 --- and JBM 11840 which is now making a big buzz between 11785 and 11865 or so.
Did they put the wrong program feed line on 11880 and/or the wrong transmitter? Or is it the latest tweak to try to get things in some semblance of order a week after the DST shifts? Maybe by next week, Arnie will be ready to circulate a theoretical new schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** FRANCE. 17850, March 16 at 1739, RFI good signal in French, but heavy accent; almost seemed Kriyol as in Haitian, but I suppose it was just African-influenced. This Issoudun transmitter also squeals (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN [non]. 15720, March 16 at 1752, open carrier past 1754. Too early for NZ; 1818 Japanese music, 1825 in English about recipe songs. Sufficient signal, 295 degrees from MADAGASCAR at 1800-1830. After NHK abandons English to North America in a biweek, hope we can still hear it? No, this relay to be canceled too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 15540, March 16 at 2057, R. Kuwait, ME rock music, 2059 about to close English and I want to copy the frequency announcement, but too poor by now to be sure: almost sounded like he said ``15540 on the 25 meter band``; after quick military band NA, 2100 switch to Arabic news opening which I know will be cut off shortly and unceremoniously. 17550 is not propagating today to continue in Arabic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 6010, March 17 at 0256, one Spanish station atop the heap of LAHs, talking about Mexico, so probably R. Mil itself (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 15120, March 16 at 1751, very poor signal with music in AM, much weaker than 15125 REE/CR. HFCC doesn`t know of anything after 1600 on 15120, but the rest of us do: as in EiBi & Aoki, VON in Arabic at 1730-1830. However at next check 1815, nothing is audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU [and non]. 5980, March 17 at 0057, mishmash of noise partly from 5990 CRI CUBA splash, which again runs slightly past 0100 as it`s misopening in English. Meanwhile at 0059, 5980 is hit by a big open carrier with some clix; at least it dampens the noise level and I can hear the Chaski music better under it; I suspect it is Greenville-B tuning up for the 0700 R. Martí broadcast way early. I`ve never heard anything like this before around my 0100 monitoring. Fortunately this too goes off at 0100 uncovering the Chaski hymn; 0100:40, usual sounder, and cut off the air at 0100:57* = 5 sex later than last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 15190, March 16 at 1750, R. Pilipinas in Tagalog, good with no het, no sign of R. Africa or Inconfidência; 1814 check she is mixing in English phrases and words (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ROMANIA. 11870, March 16 at 2248 RRI Spanish probably mailbag but strangely mentioning Steven Handler as a listener in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** RWANDA. 6055, March 17 at 0256, heavy self-imposed echo on enthusiastic unknown language talk, presumably RRR which has been widely reported in NAm at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** RWANDA. 15275, March 16 at 1825, DW Hausa good signal but another squealy transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SAUDI ARABIA. 11815, March 16 at 2250, BSKSA Qur`an good with reverb, // weaker 11915. The Word of God is so much more appealing if you can`t understand it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOUTH AFRICA. 15480, March 16 at 2100, BaBcoCk fill music loop but badly skipping every few sex until mercifully cut off late at 2101:50*. This appended to the AWR Arabic bihour via Meyerton. BTW, HFCC does not show BAB in the FMO column for this transmission, but there it was. And Harold Frodge, MI, reported this was in non-Arabic March 2 before 2001 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN [and non]. 11625, Saturday March 16 at 2159, REE IS, 2200 joining music // 15125 Costa Rica, about 6 sex ahead of it. Didn`t realize REE was on 11625; Aoki shows Sat & Sun only at 22-23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TUNISIA. 17735, March 16 at 1738, IWT is still active here, fair signal in Arabic, except I could swear the announcer mentioned ``primero de agosto``, i.e. Spanish for August 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17655, March 16 at 1741, rock song in English, VG signal from VOA Greenville, Portuguese to Africa backward. Also splattering roughly 17590-17680; main victim RFI on 17620 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 15385, March 16 at 1817, still no signal from KJES during the alleged 1800-1930 transmission, which hasn`t been heard for months despite remaining in several references (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 21630, March 16 at 1744, WHRI gospel huxter concluding with address in Oklahoma 73082 or 3. Made me feel right at home (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9930, March 16 at 2206, WTWW-2 is on, guy talking about how shortwave radio worx, but not Ted. Says he is in Pinetown(??), Mexico (or did he say Pie Town, New Mexico? I bet that`s it, uncomfortably close to Fence Lake. He said ``good luck finding it on a map``), being SW broadcast from Murfreesboro [sic], Tennessee. But this is just a prologue to a monologue for an hour about religion. I couldn`t listen straight thru and figure out where he is really coming from, but we`re in trouble with paganism, even the Lutherans don`t follow the scriptures, which are not the Word of God --- only Jesus is, per him. Still going at 2300 about Job; hour must have started a bit late, as music comes up, and he is wrapping, ``bye bye till next week``, with no name or program name, geez. 2303 ID and `Moments of Inspiration` starts, to be 15 minutes, its address a P O Box in Ballinger TX, recorded at KRUN 1400. 2317.5 dead air; 2318.5 start country gospel music
with ``When you can`t find a friend, you`ve still got the radio``, segué to another.
As for quality, when I tuned in at 2206, the 9930 transmission had a really heavy wobble, worst I`ve heard it yet, with BFO, but also audible on the modulation without BFO. By 2317.5 I notice that the carrier is now stable. At the outset there was also a noise/spur field out to 9955 and 9905, but not bothering BBC 9915.
Don`t know how long 9930 stayed on, but not followed by 5085 later this evening UT March 17 at 0052 --- neither of them on. Maybe one or both will be on Sunday/UT Monday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO: if you`re reading this right away, last-minute reminder that your last best chance to hear WOR 1660 on SW is UT Sunday at 0400 (not 0500 any more) on WTWW 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5050-AM, March 16 at 2314, WWRB is active today, some preacher; usually runs // 3215 or 3195, but none of the 3 MHz channels audible this early. At 0053 March 17 medical discussion with hum; 0104 big band music fill on both 5050 and 3195. At 0249 both with distorted piano hymn (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7506.54, March 17 at 0057, WRNO is on a few minutes early if presumably still nominal 01-04 UT only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VATICAN. 15570, March 16 at 1748, VR good in English with very heavy African accent --- does that really make him easier for Africans to understand than speaking `standard` English? Vice versa for the rest of us. About Christians being persecuted in Libya, Egypt; Kenyan politix; still VG at 1818 when in Portuguese. Another signal with great coverage in the wrong direxion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 11965, March 16 at 1822, CNR1 jammer VG with dramatic Chinese talk and music, also on weaker // 11945 and weakest // 11790, all vs R.
