Glenn Hauser logs March 14-15, 2013

** ARGENTINA. 13363.5-LSB, UT Friday March 15 at 0048, LTA is detectable with broadcast relay in Spanish but not readable, seems like lo-fi audio feed and hard to tune it accurately. This is more active on weekends with silly ballgames (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake March 15, before 1300:
11500, very good at 1251 with flutter; none in the 10s, 12s, 13s, 14s

Circa 1430:
12230, very good at 1433
13530, very good at 1433 with flutter
14700, very poor at 1435; none in the 16s
14800, fair at 1435
15870, poor at 1429 with flutter
17535, very good at 1436 with flutter; none in the 18s
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11880, March 14 at 2231 RHC is going from French to Portuguese and at 2301 into English, i.e. the one-hour-later schedule which started March 10, and not on the air before 2200 with additional languages as it was March 13. What next?

15230, March 14 at 2303, RHC is again in Spanish like yesterday, // 11680 and 17705. What happened to the Portuguese hour? It`s still on the outdated schedule
http://www.radiohc.cu/pt/destaques/frequencias.html

Here we are March 15, six days into the new DST scheduling, and RHC still hasn`t updated their online schedules, e.g. Spanish still shown as starting at 12 and ending at 06, instead of 11 and 05:http://www.radiohc.cu/index.php/de-interes/frecuencias.html

Also out of date, English, old times on 5040 and 11760:http://www.radiohc.cu/ing/of-interest/frequencies.html
this ``hedule`` also with a big typo prolonged, 5040 at ``00-07`` instead of 06-07, now 05-06 or sometimes 05-07.
Half the French broadcasts are shown at the wrong time now:
http://www.radiohc.cu/fr/dinteret/frequences.html

As for Kriyol, heard at 2301 March 14 on 15370, but there is no webpage at RHC showing when it is/was supposed to be, altho this accords with WRTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 4781.76 approx., March 15 at 0111, in Spanish, presumably R. Oriental, Tena, Napo. (Even tho I am measuring to two decimal places, the last digit is not precise, since I am counting the 40-Hz clix on the DX-398 and the real frequency could be somewhere between them. I do get a closer reading with my bass-boost headphones) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 11645, March 15 at 0525, Cuban music, but not RHC! It`s V. of Greece, // 7475 and best 9420, so all three transmitters running; soon Greek announcement and more Cuban music. At 0530 it quite resembles what is playing on RHC English frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 4790-, March 15 at 1240 past 1259 chex, no signal from RRI Fak2, just CODAR, tho RRI Makassar 4750 has sufficient signal. Atsunori Ishida was hearing 4790 today from 1000, with Jakarta news at 1201, but apparently off before I tune in (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH. 6101v, March 15 at 1248, no carrier and no big het from KCBS Pyongyang, unlike yesterday 6101.6 --- o, per Aoki that`s because it doesn`t start until 1300. So 6100, CRI Russian from Beijing until 1300 is unhetted; after 1300 the hettee must be CRI Mongolian from Urumqi (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 6360, March 15 at 1246, YL in Korean with Juche noise jamming similar to 6348, but // 5150 clear of jamming, poor signals, i.e. MND Radio, from the South about to close its final broadcast of the day, with a traditional song; Japanese monitors have figured out exactly which songs apply to each broadcast`s opening and closing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 6135, March 15 at 1331, Sea Breeze again in English this Friday, usual format starting with YL giving all kinds of contact info serenaded by piano music, but she doesn`t know squat about URLs, omitting any punxuation between http and www. Just try to get anywhere without it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT. 17550, March 14 at 2014 as I reported, R. Kuwait audible again in Arabic to C & W North America, very poor; but by next check at 2233, has built up to good strength signal, but with heavy flutter. Supposed to be on the air until 2400, one of the oddest transmissions on the air, proving the need on hi-latitude paths for at least two seasonal frequency changes per year in keeping with propagation 101, i.e. transmit *below*, not *above* the prevailing MUF --- which R. Kuwait fails to do. Anyhow, the season when this worx is coming back, after wasting their watts all winter, riding the MUF today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 6010, March 15 at 1242, R. Mil with M & W morning news discussion; her voice is more readable. Poor signal but no CCCCI (Chinese Communist co-channel interference, scheduled in Tibetan westward from Beijing). (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980.0, March 15 at 0058, ``inspirational`` music, no CNR1 jamming QRM any more by this time, and the Cubans relent too; continues past 0100, then the usual sounder at 0100:30, but cut off the air at 0100:48* which is four seconds later than last night, from R. Chaski, Urubamba, Cuzco. As usual, signal is improving marginally when they turn it off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 5930 and weaker // 5940, March 15 at 1241, jazz piano, then string bass, R. Rossii, Pet/Kam and Magadan respectively, now both in the clear with 5935 WWCR off an hour earlier for DST, and the Russians close at 1300. Also // 7320 Pet/Kam, better than both at 1250 with jazz drumming. No time or frequency changes for these are expected in A-13, but our earlier summer sunrises`ll get`em (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SARAWAK [non]. 11600, March 15 at 1255, conversation in presumed Iban, but at 1256.5 one of them mentions Radio Free Sarawak. Modulation cut at 1256.9 after another ``Radio Free ---``, and carrier off a few sex later. At London(?) studio they still haven`t figured out that transmission must end 3 minutes early on SW. Ivo Ivanov points out that the MBR schedule now shows the site as Trincomalee, SRI LANKA, as he figured. Also, HFCC as of March 12 reveals:

11600 1100 1258 54 TRM 125 105 15 217 1234567 100213 300313 D 13700 CLN WRN MBR 20117 A.borma
11600 1200 1230 54 TRM 250 105 15 217 6       080213 080213 D 13700 CLN WRN MBR 20118 Z.borma
Apparently the 8 Feb one was a test. Who are these Bormas? Will Malaysia protest to Sri Lanka? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 11940, March 15 at 0520, ME pop music with fair signal, I noted, but it`s really R. Dabanga, 250 kW, 325 degrees from MADAGASCAR at 0429-0557, following R. Tamazuj at 0400, per Aoki; while HFCC merely shows the parent organization PNW. I had not noticed this before, since // 7315 from VATICAN has been so loud & clear all winter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TUNISIA. 7275, March 15 at 0536, IWT is missing; normally comes on a few minutes before 0400; didn`t stay up to check whether 7335 would come on around 0600. Hope it`s not another sudden SW closedown. What about 17735, scheduled 1600-2010? Yes, it`s there, fair signal at 1732 March 15.

Don`t you believe HFCC, where the confused Carthaginians keep registering their times one hour later than reality. I urged Jeff White to get them to correct this in Tunis where they hosted HFCC again for A-13, but am not counting on any such implementation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5890, March 15 at 0526, WWCR-4 is back here with Brother Scare, so last night`s 7520 instead was an anomaly (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 6175, March 15 at 0528 tune-in to V. of the Martyrs ad, persecution.com, WHRI ID, cut to dead air at 0529 and off the air at 0530.5*  This is the relay of V. of Vietnam`s Vietnamese hour (but with lessons for English speakers) which must have just ended circa 0527, and instead of playing BaBcoCk fill music loop as used to be standard via Sackville, WHRI cut to its own programming! HFCC has duplicate registrations for this from 0430: BaBcoCk says until 0528, FCC says until 0530, otherwise agreeable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 790, March 15 at 1325 UT, KXXX (``K-triple-X``), Colby KS with series of ads for farm & ranch real estate auxions in CO and KS, specifying date and timezone for each; in null of KURM Rogers AR doing tradio, but KXXX is stronger at the moment. In NW corner of KS, used to be listenable on groundwave here until KQCV 800 OKC upped power and splatter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1300, March 15 at 1312 UT, dominant signal is all about Austin TX, mentions SXSW, rodeoaustin.com tickets March 8-23, Austin Infiniti; so KVET. Tune-out before they get back to sports talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1320, March 15 at 1310 UT, after the Spanish fades (XECPN?), ``Newstalk 1320 and 107.9, KELO.com``, TC for 10 past 8, cloudy, 35 degrees, ad for siouxlandoralsurgery.com  Not that there`s any doubt, but 35 chex with NWS for Sioux Falls SD 8 am temp. Must be on 5 kW non-direxional day pattern now, as nite aims NW and minor SE. Yes, FCC shows March SR 1245 UT, gaining a full hour in April to 1145.

The FM may be a recent addition, not mentioned in NRC AM Log. FCC shows it`s KELQ, 21 kW at Flandreau (which IIRC is mispronounced Flan-drew``). Yes, FCC call sign changes shows:
KELQ 3/01/2013
KXQL 8/17/2006
i.e. KELQ just started a fortnight ago, and there were several other calls before KXQL.

To me, KELO meant first the TV station on channel 11 that I DXed by tropo several times in the 60s, as well as its relays, also by sporadic E on 3 and 6. KELO DTV is still on channel 11, after transitioning on 32 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1320, March 15 at 1307 UT, Spanish timecheck for 8:08, temperatura tope 12 grados, I thought they said, meaning predicted hi, somewhere in the CDT zone. I thought I had KRDD Roswell NM as DF seemed ENE/WSW, but that`s in MDT. Heavy CCI; then I am still getting it with a SSE/NNW peak, so points to KXYZ Houston, which is CDT, but today`s hi per NWS there will be 78 degrees F = 25 C. Maybe it was really the current temp. Wish we had a schedule of what times KXYZ is SS rather than Chinese or others.

Hmmm, I should be looking at Tejas-border Mexicans, which observe CDT already unlike most of México and would routinely temp in Celsius, i.e. XECPN Piedras Negras, 20 kW day power with news format per IRCA Log (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4700, March 15 at 0113, I am still getting a LAH (low audible heterodyne) between a carrier on the lo side, presumably the Bolivian, and one close to 4700.00, where no other deliberate broadcaster is known at this hour (too early for Eritrea to be on), so maybe an harmonic of 940 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4825-, March 15 at 0053, very poor talk vs CODAR, 0102 perceptibly Portuguese, 0103 hymn. Slightly on the lo side (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
