** ALBANIA. 7475, November 1 at 0022 check, just-barely-audible carrier on the
PL-880, presumably R. Tirana Albanian hour to North America, new time and
frequency.
7474.96, November 1 at 0224, JBA carrier on the NRD-545,
presumably same prior to 0230 English, typically off-frequency-low. Both far too
weak to evaluate modulation. We hope propagation improve, but 6 MHz band might
be marginally better if a clear spot could be found. (Meanwhile 7410 Romania at
0220 manages S3-S7 in French) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

ANTARCTICA. 15476, Oct 31 at 1953, no signal from LRA36, but ~4 kHz musical
notes from the 15480 station sporadically. Looking for Radio Nacional Arcángel
San Gabriel, since Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, tipped the DXLD yg at 1927 of
mail from station notifying that they are back on! ---
``Just now, 1900
UT, I have received this e-mail from LRA 36 Radio Nacional Arcángel San
Gabriel:
saludo.
They say LRA 36 has begun transmitting, just now, Monday to
Friday between 1800-2100 UT, and they appreciate reception reports. E-mail
address: lra36@hotmail.com Here in Lugo,
at 2025 [sic: means 1925 UT], nothing on 15476 but strong interference from
station on 15480``
15480 is off by 2003, but still nothing audible here
on 15476 then or at 2010; still USB + carrier? Not surprising, considering that
its nearest 19m neighbor, RAE Buenos Aires on 15345.24 is nothing but a JBA
carrier at 1955.
15476, Nov 1 at 1845-1847, still no signal (and 15480,
AWR Arabic via MADAGASCAR at 19-20) is not on yet.
Now if it were on 11
meters, better luck, as 10m was open for contesting hams in Argentina Oct 30 but
not Oct 31-Nov 1! Henceforth, week-daily chex are required of 15476. OK area
should have an advantage in that the path is mostly overwater, Pacific and Gulf
of Mexico, the only land being Tierra del Fuego, Guatemala/Mexico and Texas.
Those in eastern N America have to cope with a mostly overland path, the length
of South America, even overAndes. Further west, it`s across the length of
Mexico. In past, listeners and remotes in Europe, mostly over-Atlantic, had
better luck with LRA36 than North Americans (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** EGYPT. What`s become of Radio Cairo??? Nov 1 at 0124, no
signal on 9965v; Nov 1 at 0138, no signal on 9315, which in A-16 were both for
North America, partly in English, but 9315 ruined by motorboating.
HFCC
B-16 shows no more broadcasts to North America at all! So they have given up on
us. And only this remains for Latin America:
12005: 2215-0045 Portuguese
& Arabic, 0045-0200 Spanish, 241 degrees, 250 kW from Abis.
The only
remaining English broadcasts, which need to be confirmed before believed, and
the modulation evaluated, are:
1600-1800, 11800, 185 degrees, 150 kW from
Abis
1600-1800, 15345, 196 degrees, 150 kW from Abis (surely not
both)
1900-2030, 15290, 250 degrees, 100 kW from AbuZaabal
2115-2245,
9800, 325 degrees, 200 kW from Abis to Europe (and ~NAm)
2115-2245, 9900,
identical parameters (surely only one or the other)
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** KURDISTAN [non]. 9400, Nov 1 at 1357, Chinese is
atop Denge Kurdistane now, i.e. FEBC PHILIPPINES, conditions back to ``normal``;
ripple SAH between them (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
**
MADAGASCAR. 9600, Nov 1 at 0114, no signal from MWV as now scheduled with NLS
English this hour instead of 9665 (and no more at 0000).
11825, Nov 1 at
0401, JBA carrier, maybe MWV as now scheduled for APR English, ex-9480 which
used to propagate well on rare occasions it was active. Tho nothing else sked
now on 11825, am not convinced it`s MWV as could be overload/mixing product on
the PL-880.
17640, Nov 1 at 1844, no signal from MWV, which in B-16
allegedly maintains this English hour (and a new repeat at 20-21) (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6960-AM, Nov 1 at 0116,
soul/rock music at S9+5; 0122 live DJ ID as ``XFM, to the power of X``,
acknowledging a call from Ken in Oklahoma, 22 after 1 UT timecheck, jazz. 0126
another ID, from ``somewhere under the stars``, acknowledging call from
Minnesota, where it`s ``gangbusters in his backyard``. Liners ``The music sounds
great on SFM``, ``Hallowe`en``, address xfmshortwave@gmail.com and phone via IP
408-800-6925, if it`s working. 0134 spooky tune with laughter. 0138 acknowledges
posts on HF Underround, e-mail, including southern Alberta, Chicagoland, says he
is doing this during a ``college homework-filled night``. Also reports from
William Hassig (one of few using his real name), Azimuth Coordinator, Zane, Jim
in MN, Ken in OK, Larry in MN with S9+30, James in CO. Some of them with music
requests he will try to fulfill as is his obligation.
0148 mentions this
is in C-QUAM stereo (I must get around to hooking up stereo speakers to the
NRD-545.) I must say the modulation is very good, and so is the DJ. Sounds great
on the PL-880 speaker, where reel-out clip-on antenna is sufficient. During this
entire period I scan the NRD-545 for other pirates on the 43 mb, but none ever
heard; the others must be awed by XFM and not wanting to compete. Many others
were reported earlier around 2300 Hallowe`en before I started monitoring. At
0206, outro some Edgar Allan Poems set to music by Allan Parsons Project. Still
going when I QRT at 0225, but gone when I resume at 0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** SOUTH CAROLINA [and non]. 7315, Nov 1 at 0611,
Brother Scare via WHRI has CCI from an understation. HFCC shows the PNW stations
in B-16 on 7315 via VATICAN at 0330-0600, i.e. R. Tamazuj and R. Dabanga, while
WHRI is registered to start at *0430 Tue-Fri, *0530 Sat & Sun. But PNW
should be over by 0600, extended? Only other HFCC item is day frequency 7315 of
AIR Shillong, 50 kW at 76 degrees from 0415 to 1045, unlikely here and which
WRTH showed not until *0656 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
**
SPAIN. 9690, Oct 31 at 1959, REE is fair at S7-S9, much less than it would have
accomplished if still on the A-season frequency 17855 to North America. At least
by this time of day, 9690 is propagating, unlike weekends starting at 1500!
Accurate timesignal at 2000 and into news in Castilian (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Oct 31 at *2300.5, VOT cuts
on late, joining in progress (JIP) modulation from about 2300.7 in English to
North America, very poor with flutter. Depriving us of any interval signal
prélude.
6080, Nov 1 at 0401, fast SAH from two weak stations, but
VOT-like intonation slighly atop, no doubt new +frequency for other English to
North America colliding with VOA São Tomé, which did not stop using it at the
end of A-16, and thus should not have been selected by TRT for B-16 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5058.5, Nov 1 at 0147 and
0205, WI2XJP LOWFER beacon in WAYLAND MA, better than before with slow CW ID

from the 5072/5085/5098 WTWW signals (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 5330.5-USB, UT Nov 1 at 0150, MARS station AFA6JB is
coordinating contacts with hams on one of their ``60 meter`` channels. Only
here, it seems, can MARS legally operate on exactly same ham frequency rather
than ``crossband``. There was a big event promoting this yesterday, but they are
doing it again tonight, and beyond? AFA6JB mentions Roosevelt something, maybe a
clue to his location? Anyhow, somewhere in MARS Region 6.
YL ham Mindy,
W7ZAP, from Curry County Oregon, is heard first. Each ham is asked about
``conditions`` where they are --- normal. Another YL, this time a MARSian,
AAR6BB apparently in TX joins in, and helps relay inaudible contacts to AFA6JB.
All except `JB speak very pro-forma rather than extemporaneously. They are
thanked for ``participating in the exercise``. When one contact is over, there
is a pileup of more stations calling in on same frequency. It seems HQ wants
only one contact from any county. `JB also specifies the time each one is logged
in, and his clock is 4 minutes fast! Still going at 0215.
Dan Srebnick
originally tipped the DXLDyg about this on Friday Oct 28:
``[dxld] MARS

open carrier already on from GB, during the one hour Radio Martí is on jammed

different transmitter and/or antenna is involved which do not mix. 0145, starts
VATICAN relay in Spanish, still extant on 7305, violating Separation of Church
& State, and still no 7425. At 0200, RM switches now to 7435, which would
