Glenn Hauser logs June 23-24, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9854.95, June 24 at 0124, R. Tirana is still suffering from extreme dysfunxion: hum-roar making the IS barely audible underneath. 0130 sign-on completely unreadable, and still the same at 0148. This Shijak signal is only S5, while over at Cërrik, the Chinese are putting out S9+30 clearly modulated, for the CRI English relay on 9570 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ARGENTINA. 11711.97, June 24 at 0121, JBA carrier here but nothing on 11710.6 to 11710.7, usual area for RAE, so is this it? Nor anything on 15344v, and shortly 11711.97 is gone too. Still nothing at 0210 final check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BOLIVIA. 6024.95, June 24 at 0141, JBA carrier, and a trace of talk modulation, presumed Red Patria Nueva (ever ID as Radio Illimani any more?). Last time I logged this, June 6, I typoed as 6035.95, and tho corrected ASAP, still got quoted wrongly somewhere. So this time I am sure to digit it accurately (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BOLIVIA. 6134.8, June 24 at 0207, carrier still here from presumed Radio Santa Cruz, but underneath motorboating noise I was not getting during previous hour. I fear it`s from RSC itself; also I think there is a JBA carrier on the hi side, 6135.1 or .2 which would be R. Aparecida, Brasil (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11815.0, June 24 at 0123, song at S2, presumed R. Brasil Central, still reactivated. Wish it could achieve a better signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 1620, June 24 at 0152, Spanish music, but not // R. Rebelde 5025, which is sports talk, maybe during a silly BB game. That causes the 1620 outlet to switch feed to the FM network, confirmed at 0155 ID as ``La FM Rebelde cadena grande``, pop ``música viva``. Other Rebeldes on MW, 670 and 1180 remain // 5025 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370, June 23 at 1819, surprised to find RHC on the air at this hour, speech in Spanish about FARC, weaker than // 11760 which is normally the only one at this hour. Then look for more and find 17730 also with this at S9+10. None heard on 13 or 9 MHz bands. No doubt prompted by today`s peace accord in Habana as explained here:

``The accord agreed today, for "A Bilateral and Definitive Ceasefire, Cessation of Hostilities, and Laying Aside of Weapons," closes the fifth of five substantive items on the FARC-government negotiating agenda. It sets out a roadmap for disarming and demobilizing the FARC after a final peace accord is signed. It foresees a swift process: a full turnover of guerrilla weapons within six months. . .``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 12084.94, June 24 at 0159, R. Cairo Arabic has just come on with ME music, and not too distorted!! This will run for five hours to North America. The English frequency, 9315 is quite weak, and the other Arabic on 9965v is moderate, undermodulated. Also had a very weak signal on 9745 before 0200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUYANA. 3289.97, June 24 at 0146, JBA carrier vs the S9+10 storm noise level, so whew, V. of Guyana appears still to be active. Peregrinating engineer Jaime Labadia, now in Fresno, asks Ron Howard, "Ron, I don't suppose you're able to hear the Voice of Guyana on 3.290 mc/s? (Only 1.2 k.w. for now, and antenna broadside N.E. / S.W.)". No wonder the signal is so poor here to the northwest (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 6190, June 24 at 0209, MWV La Voz Alegre has managed to keep the transmitter on longer tonight, with secular-sounding pop music, about equal to the S9+10 noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6924.99-AM, June 24 at 0104, only trace on the pirate band is a JBA carrier here which with storm noise level (SE KS and SW MO) amounts to S9+10; still going past 0137 with some talk modulation audible. If it`s the same station many heard
starting at 2224 June 23 (NOT June 22: initial post subject had wrong date!), and as late as 0127, it was eventually relay of an FM pirate Radio Free Olympia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1390, June 23 at 0528 UT, first on a non-DX radio I notice praise music in Spanish on 1380, obviously KRCM Shenandoah TX, R. Aleluya, still throwing its 22 kW day power toward us at night, as always --- but no need to avoid splash from local 1390 KCRC --- that`s because KCRC is off! And along with 1390, the nasty spurs perpetually putting hets on 1420 and 1360. Very unusual for KCRC, instead of NSP = non-stop programming/no silent period (remember those?). So I concentrate on DXing something on 1390 itself from 0530 UT to 0550 UT, but nothing ever emerges above the pileup and even some splash from KRCM. Except with BFO I do detect one signal very slightly on the hi side of 1390, roughly E/W. Maybe better at SRS? Reawake at 1127 UT there is something with a bit of an edge in English talk, but still uncopiable. By 1155 recheck, KCRC is finally back, blasting ESPN (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1640, June 24 at 0150 UT, as the sun is setting, it`s time to check the X-band, to find that local KZLS Enid-Hennessey-OKC is OFF; instead some silly sports talk about NBA draft, obviously WTNI Biloxi MS, which I cannot believe is not always running 10 kW ND day power, as I can hear it even when KZLS is on, underneath, and generally better than the other 1 kW X-banders at night. KZLS is sibling station to KCRC 1390 which was off the air night before (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAIWAN [and non]. 11070 & 11100 & 11470, June 23 at 1225-1230, JBA carriers slightly off-frequency, presumed Sound of Hope. Also OOB JBACs on 11430 and 11500, presumed CNR1 jammers of SOH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 9770, June 24 at 0107, VOT fails to broadcast on wrong frequency 9830, but also fails to modulate at tune-in; I check // 9870 and stilted Spanish is going, also on 9770 by the time I get back to it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1831 monitoring: confirmed first SW broadcast Thursday June 23 at 1130 on WRMI 9955, good S9+10/20, no jamming. Also confirmed after 2100 Thursday June 23 on WRMI 13695, very good. Also confirmed after 2330 Thursday June 23 on WBCQ 9329.985-CUSB, fair and the frequency is varying slightly. Next:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. (7490), Thursday June 23 at 2327 tune in WBCQ The Planet webcast to check out `Broad Spectrum Radio`, but instead it`s `Camp Constitution Radio`, wrapping up at 2329 with claim that it`s still airing Mondays at 2330 --- and maybe it is, just plugged in now to fill for BSR. At 2330, BSR does start an episode of `Exploring Aspergia`. So was this an anomaly, or BSR reduced from two semihours to one? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775.000, June 23 at 1822, KVOH with music at S9+10, carrier frequency averaging accurate but wobbling slightly. 9975 in evenings, circa 0130 check June 24, is still off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9474.95, June 24 at 0117, WTWW-1 is S9+30 open carrier/dead air, still past 0127 so no passé Pastor Pete Peters tonight. Recheck at QSY time 0200: suddenly starts modulating with first dekaword of Ted`s canned ID ``Broadcasting from the banks of of the Upper Cumberland River, this ---`` and cut off. In less than a semiminute comes up on 5830, but resumes unmodulation past 0206. Wake up, Ted. Changing frequency accomplished but not noticing something is missing! Also missing completely: 12105, no signal from WTWW-3 at 0124 check. 5085, WTWW-2 is still on weeknights after 0400 June 24, for `Midnight [sic] in the Desert`.

Mike Barraclough forwards this post about a visit to WTWW by someone who was unduly impressed by a claim of ``1.21 gigawatts``, not 300 kW:
Surely W4MAJ, William R. Jones, has never axually listened to WTWW, or tried to (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7520, June 24 at 0135, WWCR gospel huxter, but with cross talk from a second g.h. underneath, which proves to be // the audio on 4840, bleeding into the 7520 transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9530, June 24 at 0116, JBA carrier where I normally hear nothing. HFCC suggest it should be CNR Tibetan service from Beijing. Aoki refines to Baoji-Sifan site of CNR-11, but also: Rádio Transmundial, Brasil. If so, it`s a rarity here unlike a bunch of other 31m ZYs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9885.00, June 24 at 0110, good S8 signal where there is normally nothing, tuneful electronic music until cut off abruptly at 0111:40*. No return in next five minutes or chex later in same hour. Scheduled this bihour is IBB Tibetan via Tajikistan, but far too strong for that, nor jamming. Instead suspect it`s a test from Greenville which employs 9885 M-F 0600-0630 in French; other A-16 users of 9885: São Tomé, Riyadh and Santa Maria di Galeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15016.0-USB, June 24 at 0131, tune-in just in time to hear last word of a US military secret message, ID and off: ``. . .Uniform, This is Ricochet, out`` to 0132*. Quite by chance, I run across Ricochet again on 6739.0-USB, June 24 at 0203, S9+30 during long alfanumeric message, which he then says again, so I copy it completely, as given in fonetix without pauses or groupings:

``SAAGWUESGHDZXI6WZ3QYCD7OYFZ2S2 --- this is Ricochet, out`` to 0105* So this was a different one than on 15016, ending in U (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
