Glenn Hauser logs February 24-25, 2015

** ALBANIA. 7425, Feb 25 at 0227, R. Tirana is very poorly audible with IS, so still on the air. Last time I checked this N American service in English, it was missing after 0230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ANGUILLA. 11775, Feb 24 at 1458, University Network is missing from day frequency; maybe still stuck on night frequency which is inaudible this late on 6090, but could be detected in Florida, if on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BANGLADESH. 15505, Feb 25 at 1359:28, 5+1 mistimesignal ends from Bangladesh Betar before opening Urdu service. JBA signal, but the MTS cuts thru (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11747 & 11813, Feb 25 at 0618, crackling spurs audible from 11780.1v, RNA/RNB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11765v, Feb 25 at 0619, SRDA Curitiba with music, very poor, but not preaching by Davi[d] Miranda, who died Feb 22, according to a report by Leonardo Ivo on the radioescutas group. I don`t recall if he used to be heard at this particular hour, but it would be typical. He`s the wailing gospel huxter mixing Portuguese and Spanish into ``Portunhol``, who could be heard on so many Brazilian SW frequencies (per Aoki & WRTH, SRDA on 6060, 6120, 9565, 9585v, 11765) and also some Spanish-speaking countries --- what do you bet he lives on the radiowaves forever like his dead American counterparts? Maybe not. Leonardo says even before he died, there was a power struggle by his children for control of the IPDA church; he hopes the SW network might dissolve and some good stations come back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 11640 & 11655, Feb 25 at 1340, CNR1 jammers have some class! Playing ``Blue Danube Waltz``, applause and 1342 on to `Radetzky March`. Sounds just like the New Year Concert from Vienna encores. Last part of the latter is talked over in Chinese in typical disrespect. Both with flutter, 11640 clearer vs RTI, while 11655 has CCI from victim VOA Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY. 15150, Feb 24 at 1500, AWR with multilingual ID spiel, preceding Punjabi via Nauen. Strange thing: they manage to translate ``AWR`` into Italian, French, but in German they say the name in English! Why not ``Adventisten Welt-Rundfunk``?? BTW, it seems to me that in German the word ``Rundfunk`` (colorfully, literally, ``sparkin`-around``) is losing out to ``Radio`` except in established names like BR, NDR, WDR. Perhaps they have been influenced by R. Japan, which insists on pronouncing English ``NHK World`` in all other languages. Before 1500, AWR on 15150 is via Sri Lanka (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUYANA. 3290-, Feb 25 at 0616 check, again no detectable signal from V. of Guyana; do others find it sporadic or missing again? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 11670, Feb 24 around 2130, AIR GOS with S Asian music, fair signal. I am getting this on the G8 portable with rod antenna only, in a stand-alone medical office lobby, incredibly without any noise level to cope with. Also clear signals from many other stations I would have a hard time hearing this well afternoons on the home rig (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 11675, Feb 25 at 1347, big hum atop suppressed-modulation talk, also flutter, i.e. VIRI Urdu service via Kamalabad until 1420. Aoki reminds later it`s supposed to be // 11730, but don`t recall hearing it there as I tuned on up (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT [non]. 21540, Feb 24 at 1414, R. Kuwait is AWOL, certainly not due to propagation as neighbor Riyadh is still audible on 21505; and also absent Feb 25 at 1431, when 21505 is in even better than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. Re my several MW logs early UT Feb 24, and lack of northerlish US stations, in ``auroral conditions``, WWV reported the K-index was 4 at 0000; 5 at 0300 & 0600. And as of 0300 & 0600, `` Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level occurred`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MOROCCO. 9575, Feb 24 at 0617, Médi Un with Arabic music; poor signal, unusual flutter on this due to auroral conditions, K-index 5, tho not on weak Sudan 9505 which is a more northerly path over Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA [non]. 7570 & 15770, Tue Feb 24 at 2100, R. Spootnik via WRMI with `From Russia with Love`; at 2123 wrapup, Vasily tries to give the times on WRMI, not this one, but incorrect 2130 Wednesday? 7570 & 15770 equally good on the G8 portable in medical office lobby (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN. 9505, Feb 24 at 0617, very poor signal with music and talk, some pulse QRM, presumed the sporadic V. of Africa service in Tigrinya, 110 degrees toward Ethiopia. Also scheduled for English at 0800-0900 & 1730-1830 when I don`t hear it any better (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1761 monitoring: confirmed UT Wed 0401 on Global 24 webcast, also via WRMI 9395. Preceded by Bach fill music at 0359, 0400 ID and a semiminute of FSN news headlines. The Wed 1415 airing on WRMI 9955 also confirmed at 1440 Feb 25 check, good with no jamming. Next:
Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5930 & 5940, Feb 24 at 0623, the sidebands of WWCR 5935 with DGS are very noisy with something else, i.e. matching modulation peaks of WWCR 4840, as the spurious garbage cuts on and off. Yet another case of unsavory interaxion among WWCR transmitters which need to be isolated one from another, amen (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11870, Feb 24 at 0615, R. Católica Mundial during the rote ``Dolorosa Pasión`` show is under big humwhine. This particular defect I only note on this frequency late at night; not so on // 7555 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475, Feb 24 at 2235, PPPP programing has been pre-empted on WTWW for live(?) coverage from the annual National Religious Broadcasters convention always in Nashville --- Ted is interviewing some guy in the movie biz, and for the few minutes I listen, can`t determine who he is or what it has to do with religion or broadcasting (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
