** AUSTRALIA. 17840, April 14 at 0453, RA with fair signal, the OSOB except NZ DRM noise on 17670-17680; // better 15300, 15240, 15160, not yet 13630. Aoki shows 17840 about to close at 0458 after 355 beam to Asia from 0300, while at 01-03 it`s 70 degrees USward, after 17860 at 21-01 same, ex-21740 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BANGLADESH. 15105, April 14 at 1227, tone from Bangladesh Betar, 1228 IS, and mistimesignal ending at 1229:39.5 before English service. It`s a very poor signal but in fact one of the best on a mostly dead band (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. CNR1 jammers morning of April 14, during degraded propagation:
12190, April 14 at 1234, CNR1 jammer, very poor with flutter vs CODAR
12230, April 14 at 1234, CNR1 jammer, poor but not with flutter
12910, April 14 at 1235, CNR1 jammer, just barely audible (JBA)
13795, April 14 at 1238, CNR1 jammer, JBA but // others
13820, April 14 at 1235, CNR1 jammer, fair; unusual here, but Aoki shows target is 0.1 kW Sound of Hope nuisance from Taiwan at 2130-1700 but surely not jammed, or active, the entire span
13830, April 14 at 1238, CNR1 jammer, // 13820 but weaker
15340, April 14 at 1243, CNR1 jammer, fair // 12230. Aoki shows target is a 0.1 kW Sound of Hope nuisance from Taiwan at 2330-1530, but surely not jammed, or active, the entire span. No Cuba yet on 15340; no jammers audible in the 16s, 17s, 14s
13755, April 14 at 1240, similar Chinese talk to the CNR1 jammers but not //, since this is CRI southward from Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [non]. 9690, April 14 at 0355, CRI relay via SPAIN is all in Chinese, while 9790 via Cuba is not //, in English mixed with Chinese lesson at hourend. 9690 does default to English at 0358 to pronounce ``triple double-you dot chineseradio dot cee enn``.
Has Spain put on the wrong feed? Apparently not, but intentional A-14 replacement of 0300 English by Mandarin, as Aoki now shows both hours in Chinese at 02-04; while HFCC and EiBi still have English at 03-04 on 9690. Too bad, as this was CRI`s best signal left in English to North America --- Cuba 9790 still plenty strong, but better modulation was via Spain. Only the ChiCom get to register Habana relay frequencies with HFCC, as Arnie is just too anti-American, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 9490, April 14 at 0353, surprised to find wall-of-noise jamming here, as R. República via FRANCE ends at 0300 --- but I can almost hear something under the jamming, so could RR have been extended? However, not unusual at all for the DentroCuban Jamming Command to jam nothing, such as on 6030 at 0455, despite R. Martí`s Monday morning rest stop. 9490 accompanied by pulsing spurs plus/minus 10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 11840, April 14 at 0450, RHC still on here with `la Cultura en Cuba`, the OCOB = only Cuban on band; also poor on 9810. At 0455 the only other Spanish frequencies I find are 6060 and 5040; 6070 off already but still no CFRX to uncover. 6070 is now scheduled until 0400 only, and 9550 a new evening frequency is supposed to run at 21-05.
6000, I am monitoring from *0457 April 14 when RHC English is hit by a strong carrier suppressing audio somewhat and making a 4 Hz subaudible heterodyne: this means RHC has turned on another transmitter on the same frequency, QRMing itself! In less than a minute by 0458, Spanish audio comes up on the second transmitter to mix with English for another minute, but 0459 that stops, still SAH with two carriers, 0500 first carrier is off and RHC English continues on the second transmitter. (Anyhow, no more het or modulation from Brasil 5999.6). Typical very rough transition for RHC.
9830, April 14 at 1250, RHC under heavy RTTY QRM, and an echo apart from // 9850 and 9550 out of the other site. Arnie warns of a change coming to 9820 due to the RTTY he did not know about --- well, he should have, if he had turned on a radio before choosing new 9830, or noticed my frequent complaints about it, or rather about other broadcast stations clueless enough to try to broadcast on 9830, notably Turkey every summer for several years, 22-23 in English to North America. (BTW, the April 14 Aoki list shows 9830 also used by Turkey in Spanish from April 7 at 0100, with 9770 deleted, // 9870; something I had not yet noticed. 9870 is the one which should have been deleted, clashing with India!)
What about 9820 for RHC? There is something Asian there which will also QRM the weak RHC signal if it move. Aoki shows there are already 3 stations before 1300! AIR in Sinhala 250 kW via GOA; CNR1 in Chinese, 150 kW from Xianyang 594 site; and Voice of Beibu Bay Radio in Vietnamese/Chinese, 15 kW from Nanning 954 site. I am still hearing whichever 9820 Asian signal after 1300 April 14, but not after 1400. RHC sked shows 9830 in use at 11-15 UT, not just 11-13 as in Aoki, and I am still detecting it JBA at 1417 // others, still vs RTTY. You`re welcome, Arnie, for all my free advice.
11760 RHC is off at 1416 check April 14, with the only Cubans on band being 11860 and 12010. 11760 per RHC website is supposed to be on at 11-15 for Spanish (plus 1500-1530 Sunday Esperanto; 1900-2030 English & French; but not at all after that, when we have in fact heard it.)
9550 RHC is still on at 1417 April 14, // but much weaker than 15340, with usual Vietnamese CCI. RHC website claims 9550 is on only at 11-13 and new 21-05. In other words: SNAFU (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GREECE. 7475 // 9420, April 14 at 0342, HR is back in Greek with good/very good signals, but no 11645 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MALAYSIA. 9835, April 14 at 1258, poor-fair with Qur`an: sounds like a mezzo-soprano, or must it be a testicled tenor? Continues past 1300, but 1301 announcement in Malay(?); 1302 next cantor is a baritone; more Qur`an bits by different voices, with announcements, suspect one of those competitions, but no audience noise or applause, unseemly? Not // 11665 with other talk. 9835 Qur`aning still going at 1339 but fading to very poor. Is RTM Sarawak FM, relayed back to Borneo from peninsular Kajang near KL. (Why doesn`t Sabah get its own SW relay service too?) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 15120-AM, April 14 at 0452 an unusually active day for VON, now with hilife musical prélude to English broadcast, somewhat distorted modulation but good signal. Wish I had stayed with it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOMALILAND. 7120, April 14 at 0344, R. Hargeisa, poor talk in presumed Somali, vs LSB QRhaM and lightning crashes east of here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1716 monitoring: confirmed on Area 51 webcast, UT Monday April 14 at 0300; 5110v-CUSB WBCQ not checked until 0340, at least to confirm something audible there vs noise level. Next WORs:
Tuesday 1100 on WRMI-10, 9955
Wednesday 1300 on WRMI-11, 9955
Wednesday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB. Full sked:http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5085 & 5830, April 14 at 1346, WTWW night frequencies are still on instead of 9930 & 9475, but not 12105. Same at 1414, despite nominal *1300 switchover time. Not checked again until 1612, when 9475, 9930 and 12105 are all on, probably from much earlier but still starting late (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, April 14 as late as 1419, JBA carrier only, presumed KVOH Los Ángeles on it weekday schedule. Usually has faded in during previous hour. Much better signal e.g. from East Turkistan on 17630 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 690, April 14 at 0503 UT, KGGF Coffeyville KS is playing the ``Battle Hymn of the Republic``, then into Taps at sign-off. Always Taps, and a few other patriotic songs alternate before it --- but I`ve never heard them play `Dixie`, so we know which side of the Missouri Compromise KGGF is on! 36-30 North is marked on US 81 a few miles north of Enid = the AR/MO boundary extended while the KS/OK boundary is 37-00. Some traitorous Confederate stations still proudly play `Dixie` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1000, April 14 at 1208 UT, ESPN`s `Mike & Mike` heatedly discussing the NCAA-pay-your-athletes issue, making slow SAH of 28/minute = 0.47 Hz with KTOK OKC mostly nulled. So again suspect it`s WMVP Chicago (ex-WLUP, ex-WCFL), which with its direxional pattern mostly eastward is not usually audible here. After my previous log, I found a thread on IRCA March 30 discussing WMVP also being heard westward into Nigel Pimblett`s Alberta, extremely rare; Dennis Gibson points out they have a CP for a 12 kW ND auxiliary at the WLS site which they could be testing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1140, April 14 at 0524 UT, with XEMR nulled, ID for ``Radio Las Américas 11-40``, which we know from easier listening after sunrise is KLTK Centerton/Rogers/Bentonville AR, the station named for a supermarket, but not Walmart. Trouble is, KLTK is licensed as a 5 kW ND DAYTIMER ONLY, and this is about as far from daytime as possible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1700, April 14 at 0529 UT, Tejano music, so KKLF Richardson TX is back on the air after a few days off; also heard around 1200 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. `Mad About Music`, no longer airing on WQXR or WNYC, was a long-running interview by Gilbert Kaplan with celebrities, not all of them with an obvious musical connexion, and playing some of their favorite music, not all of it classical. Sort of like BBC`s `Desert Island Discs`.
Now it`s being syndicated by WFMT (for more than 13 weeks, we hope), with Alan Alda the guest on April 13, as heard on KUCO, 90.1, OK, Sunday at 21-22 UT. Here`s the archive info:http://www.wqxr.org/#!/programs/mam/2012/dec/
but no audio linx. Last new show apparently was December 30, 2012 with Renée Fleming. Recommended if you can find it on a serious music station; or perhaps http://www.publicradiofan.com will be adding it. Kevin Kelly tells me he`s found only one other outlet so far, YPR (KEMC) at 1700 UT Mondays, when I have also heard it, Alda again April 14.
It`s also the spring 13-week season for the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, via WFMT syndication. PRF already has found 11 airings of it including KUCO (ex KCSCFM), Sundays at 15-16 UT:http://www.publicradiofan.com/cgibin/program.pl?programid=4777

UNIDENTIFIED. 730, April 14 at 0511 UT, station in English, seems news discussion, rough bearing ENE/WSW. Too many US stations are allowed here with reduced power at night despite XEX and CKAC. Soon losing to romantic music from south, and then Korean talk, KKDA The Metroplex which gets to run 500 watts. Might have been 50 kW CHMJ Vancouver but for the bearing, and was not ``all-traffic`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
