Glenn Hauser logs November 13, 2010

** ALBANIA. 13640, Nov 13 at 1542 check of R. Tirana`s English to North America signal registers S9+15 but very undermodulated and I can`t make out what Klara is saying. Standard remark (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRIA. 15440, fairly good signal Nov 13 at 1404 with South Asian vocal music, seemingly secular, but 1405 talking about Bible, Jesus Christ, AWR, and mailing address in Hyderabad, Pakistan, or
urdu@awr.org It`s 300 kW, 90 degrees from Moosbrunn at 1400-1430 daily (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL [and non]. 11780, RNA is on at 0640 Nov 13, but once again, no sign of it on 6185, non // Cuban music from XEPPM, QRM-free. May it ever be so (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake Nov 13:
10500, good with SAH at 1336. Presumably that`s a sign of Sound of Hope underneath it but could not make out any other modulation. Normally there is not even a SAH. Not found on 8, 9, or 11 MHz frequencies at this time, but did not do a full bandscan up to 18 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13780, ran across RHC with Arnie Coro at 1341-1346 Nov 13 talking about propagation. This is not a regular program, but just a contribution to the revistas, so may show up at various times. He says he recorded it at 1440 UT on Friday the 12th, when the Wolf sunspot number was 60. Solar activity has been increasing for the past sesquidekaday (quince días), so bands above 15 MHz are improving. Solar max is now expected in 2013, but peaking nowhere near as high as the past four cycles. Sunspots yesterday reached 66.

15230, at 1350 Nov 13, CRI Chinese music break in China Drive had a few IADs via Sackville, plus SAH de RHC and Spanish undercurrent now that Arnie has decided to collide with a fellow commie broadcaster, with whom they even have a relay deal.

11760 is best at 1540 when I am hearing music from Puerto Rico, as identified by announcer Tony Gómez, and I do believe he mentioned Cancionero Iberoamericano, i.e. the program which used to be on an hour earlier at 1430, and not changing UT due to DST or not, but now it has. 1556 titulares.

1600 I expect to hear mistakes in the frequency announcement for the following hour, and so I do: Tony says: ``15390, 11690, 11730, 11760, 12040, 6140`` in typical Soviet-style disorder, despite 15230 having replaced the short-lived 15390 several days ago. More music after 1600. He also keeps claiming RHC can be heard on ``audio real`` even tho it`s NOT the Real Audio format. Please engage brain before reading script. Please turn on a radio sometime and monitor your own station. Please establish rapid and accurate communications between studio and transmitters as to schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA [and non]. 9526-, VOI absent Saturday Nov 13 at 1336, no signal, but overload from WHRI 9540, which I believe is on the air only on Saturdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 13790 // 13800 in Arabic music and talk, Nov 13 at 1346, both poor but 13790 slightly stronger, but too close for comfort to RHC 13780. Per HFCC we have VIRI scheduled on both at 0530-1430, 13790 being 178 degrees from Kamalabad, while 13800 is 289 degrees from Zahedan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 13810, as I tune across Nov 13 at 1408, Brother Scare is in a lather, full of pride about all the frequencies he thinx he`s on at the moment, this plus 9460, 9385, 9265, 9980. But 9265 WINB has someone else, a YL preacher.

And 9460? TOM is supposed to have started Nov 12 at 1400-1600 daily, 100 kW, 300 degrees from Wertachtal, but despite being aimed USward, really for Europe, inaudible here, and paranoid Pastor Pete Peters is no help blasting away from WTWW 9479.

13810 is also via MBR, but Nauen, 100 kW, 129 degrees at 1400-1600 daily, renewed as of 12 November (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [and non]. 5965 via CR, trying to nail down when Amigos de la Onda Corta is now *really* on the air.

This version on REE`s own website
http://www.rtve.es/radio/radio-exterior/programacion/
is undated but ``mensual`` implying it is updated every month. (Link to it from programasdx calls it ``semanal``, weekly). It does show current time difference of one hour between HOE and UT, instead of two in the summer, but it has obvious incorrect info, like no Basque at 1330 UT, no co-official languages at 2345-2355, both M-F.

It claims that Amigos de la OC is Saturdays at 0700 UT, Con Respuesta at 0730 UT. Yet the link to the Amigos page
http://www.rtve.es/radio/20100120/amigos-onda-corta/313335.shtml
shows it as Sat 0605, Sun 1330 as of 20 January 2010, so that was last winter`s schedule. We`ve already confirmed the Sunday 1330 time as correct for B-10.

Unfortunately I tune in too late Saturday Nov 13 at 0647 to 5965 via CR, when the program is called ``Edición Exclusiva`` interview about some Venezuelan prize. One would expect the DX and mailbag program Con Respuesta to remain a pair, one after the other. But there is no program named Edición Exclusiva on the schedules. At 0710, I find 5965 playing classical music instead of Amigos de la OC, so maybe that show really was on an hour earlier, when it could reach a slightly larger awake audience in the Americas, slightly smaller in Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. TRT on 15480 // 15350 about equal level, Nov 13 at 1358 with Turkish commercials after music. Usually 15350 is much stronger, and these are supposed to go off around 1355. I keep listening to 15480, then hear motorace SFX, finally pulling the plug abruptly at 1401:50, by when 15350 is also off.

I was previously speculating that something weak on 15480 at 1412 Nov 12 could be DVB on early, but now it seems more likely Turkey on late, as we often find their slopperation runs overtime, sometimes to the detriment of the following language service on another frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15590, 13715 and 9885 VOA Spanish plays a lot of music fill rather than real produxions speaking Spanish. Saturday Nov 13 at 1352 ``Yellow Bird`` on vibes; before and after that, more pleasant tunes in similar vein rather than usual hard rock in English, what a waste (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###
