Glenn Hauser logs September 6, 2016

** INDONESIA. 9526-, Sept 6 at 1234, not even a carrier from VOI, off again. Atsunori Ishida reports it had been on the first five days of September between *0950v and 2100v*. Will they manage to broadcast for their 71st anniversary Sept 11? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** LIBERIA. 6050, Sept 6 at 0530, as I am listening to the 2-way USB Spanish intruders, some music starts --- it`s a JBA interval signal on AM, somewhat familiar, repeated several times for at least one minute, 14 notes, some of them prolonged, reverberating. It must be ELWA, which is scheduled to start at this hour, taking over the fellow HCJB frequency after a semihour break. Yes, it matches:
Very pleased to ID this, as ELWA is no easy catch now, and dates back to my earliest DXing days in the 50s/60s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 6190, Sept 6 at 0211, still no signal from MWV, during Spanish hour. Are they on curtailed schedule or totally off the air currently? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Sept 6 at 0223, JBA talk from one of the Canadian Coast Guard stations circa Newfoundland, unusually at the moment something here rather than 2749-USB from closer Nova Scotia vicinity. From
I put together in night-time order the scheduled marine weather UT transmission starts, ending times variable, originator and transmitter site:

2207, VCP St. John`s
2307, VOK Cartwright and/or(?) Hopedale
2317, VCF Natashquan
0007, VCP St. John`s
0048, VCP St. Lawrence
0107, VOK St. Anthony
0137, VOK Cartwright and/or(?) Hopedale
0207, VOJ Stephenville [therefore I was hearing this one]

0437, VCF Natashquan

0707, VOK St. Anthony
0737, VCP St. Lawrence
0807, VOJ Stephenville
0837, VCP St. John`s
0847, VCF Natashquan
0937, VCF Natashquan
1007, VOK Cartwright and/or(?) Hopedale
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 15720, Sept 6 at 0206 check, RNZI is missing again as it was last night, yet Australia 15240 and 17840 are sufficiently audible. 15720 is still on the web schedule between 2051 and 0458 daily (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930-USB, Sept 6 at 0207, drumming at S7, 0207.5 ID as ``X-L-R-8, Accelerate`` and more music. First pirate log in weeks, despite scanning the pirate band during every nighttime monitoring session here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Correxion: 9330 is occupied only UT Wednesdays and Sundays instead of Tuesdays --- I keep having to convert from ET to UT. Fixed:

WBCQ seems to be running AWWW just about every night on 9330 from 0100, once Blalock the Blaster is over, but of course, ad-hoc, not on the websked. 9330 is otherwise occupied after 0100 only on UT Wednesdays & Sundays.

9330v-CUSB, poor UT Tuesday Sept 6 at 0219, AWWW is in fact replaying again tonight, as AW is answering a question from a caller about power levels, ``just testing, 10-15 kW``; antenna? ``Part of our log-periodic``. Apparently referring to 3250v (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7315, Sept 6 at 0210, WHRI with praise music, soon ID break, and this time not // other praise music on 9605, still prolonged after the Korea relay there, Vietnam relay on 7315 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1170, Sept 6 at 0226 UT, gospel huxter citing Romans XI: 19-23 under KFAQ`s anti-American talk; no doubt WWVA OH still on 50 kW ND. Or less? Alan Furst, Lee’s Summit, Missouri near Kansas City, also heard it at 0245 UT: ``I just got a confirmed log on WWVA at 9:45 PM CT as they changed church programming. Announcer clearly said WWVA with typical disclaimer. Brother Ray started at 10:45 [ET]. Good old fashioned bible pounding. Have they ever returned to three tower directional after the towers went down in a storm a few years ago? Using Wellbrook 1530 loop with AOR 7030``. I don`t know, but something certainly has just changed to get them in here.

Randy Stewart in MO wonders which stations really in WV get out to the west? Rick Dau, NE suggests 580 WCHS and 950 WBES both Charleston. Radio-locator shows WCHS major night lobe goes ESE, but does have lesser lobes; WBES with equal lobes to WNW and ESE (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Sept 6 from 1305 past 1406, Republic of Yemen Radio (via SAUDI ARABIA?), S9 to S6 fades, in Arabic talk whenever I check rather than music, but reception is picking up (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810, Sept 6 at 0230 UT, corridos (story-telling songs, often about gangsters), lyric mentions Culiacán, 0232 YL ad for something delicioso, from a mall, phone starts 615 (but not an AC which would be E Tennessee). Dominates, from ENE/WSW, 0238 UT ID by super-hype voice actor, who makes it incomprehensible. If not KSWV Santa Fe NM, where it`s well after sunset, allegedly 10 watts, there are two XE possibilities among a bunch of other 810s further south/east: 1/1 kW XESB Santa Bárbara, Chihuahua; and 5 kW daytimer(?) XERSV, Ciudad Obregón, Sonora (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1580, Sept 6 at 0224 UT, ``Sounds of Silence`` atop for a while, best on E-W antenna, but not a DF fix. NRC AM Log shows several OLD 1580s: closest is KGAF Gainesville TX, 250 watts from the south; strongest is 10 kW CKDO Oshawa Ont. (and why not? 1610 CHHA Toronto is easy, but I`m not getting into DA patterns here). Others in AL (WVOK Oxford which was recently off-frequency but no het any more) 22 watts; FL 10 kW daytimer; GA daytimer; IN 5 watts; IA 10 watts; NC 12 watts; SC 10 watts; Rusk TX 165 watts; VA daytimer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6050-USB, Sept 6 at 0528, 2-way INTRUDERS probably in Spanish, very weak, but these lead me to log LIBERIA, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7490.005, Sept 6 at 0523, S9 open carrier, maybe WBCQ testing? No one else is on 7490 anywhen except WWCR in the mornings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
