Glenn Hauser logs August 31, 2021

** BRAZIL. 11815.032, Aug 31 at 0615, music at S2-S4, presumed R. Brasil Central typically askew as in Brasil private SWBCs are required to run significantly off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, Aug 31 at 0608, humbuzz atop undermodulated English.. Something`s always wrong at shameless RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7157 & 7215, Aug 31 at 0609, wall-of-noise Cuban jamming which they keep running against nothing on these particular 40m ham frequencies and no others, why? Nor is there any conceivable broadcaster attracting jamming anytime on 7215. Unlike previously, however, there is no jamming against vacant OCB frequencies above 7300; but there is on 9565, where Radio Martí quits at 2400*. Something`s always wrong at the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Tuesday Aug 1 at 1525, Kashmir Civitas in Urdu talk but some English words: ``red light area`` and 1527 again mentions ``red light`` twice. Wonder what that`s about? Also mentioned ``Jammu & Kashmir``. Chopped off at 1529* still talking, no postlude of IRRS songs in English this week. Programmers don`t seem to appreciate necessity for accurate timing. Last Tuesday I missed checking this weekly 1500 broadcast via ROMANIA after having heard it every week since it started. This week reception via UTwente is much worse than usual; instead of loud & clear solid, it`s S7-S8 and ``hollow`` sounding. K-index now only 1, but G1 minor storms predicted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6880-USB, UT Tue Aug 31 at 0148, only pirate activity is here, S9/+10 with classical music, believe it or not! 0151 ID as Mix Radio International, more classical. I keep listening in astonishment, as most pirates avoid classical like the plague. But MRI after all is ``mixed`` and have broadcast various genres before. Let us say these are ``popular classics``, war horses of tuneful recognizability. At 0258 going from ``Deutschland ueber Alles`` to the VVV opening of Beethoven`s Fifth.

At 0205 I switch from own rx to remote in Maryland which is getting it equally well at S9/+10; 0206 another ID but music unseems named. I suspect there be some repetition before it`s all over, but haven`t kept track of individual pieces. No announcements at all heard in final hour to sesquihour, abruptly off at end of final piece at 0340*.

Many other reports here starting at 2214 August 30, all classical: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,85786.0.html I am pleased to see positive comments from other listeners, perhaps encouraging more of this from MRI or others. Some comment on the wideband audio, but on the KiwiSDR I find plenty of highs, sorely lacking in bass response if not bass transmission; rather tinny; no equalizer? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 14322.5-USB, Aug 31 at 1907, JBA ``International Bible Study Net`` announcing this frequency, later CQs, apparently trouble rounding up students. Can`t copy the NCS call, never foneticized. I`ll bet only welcomed are those accepting as a given that it`s the Undisputed Holy Word of the Christian God; which version? No real challenging (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2101 monitoring; next:
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW

** U S A [and non]. 15610, Aug 31 at 1903, no signal from WEWN English, scheduled to start at *1900; nor yesterday, I think, nor night frequency 9385. Now neighbor 15825 WWCR at similar megameter distance achieves S8-S9, and 15770 WRMI too.

12050, Aug 31 at 1957, at first hear non-Spanish, must be Ndarason in Kanuri via Woofferton at 19-21, then CCI WEWN Spanish making >1 Hz SAH; WEWN Spanish night frequency 5970 has been reliable. Some weeks ago, WEWN tried 12040 instead, but back to 12050 since KSDA is already on 12040 for one semihour at 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 870, Aug 31 at 0119 UT, WWL New Orleans with storm coverage vs the Cuban whooper. I think WWL is running lowered power, as it`s incomparable e.g. to neighbors on 860 & 880. This makes sense since they must be relying on generator. 10 or even 5 kW should be enough to cover the disaster area; and who cares about skywave?

Website is certainly current in more ways than one, hosted somewhere with electrical fluid. I can`t find anything about technical issues, nor even a list of all the FMs allegedly carrying WWL at least on HD2. But they do plug ``WWL HD2`` which you can hear online; who cares about OTA FM? As if it were separately programed, but totally unclear about that. During the emergency, likely a single stream on all possible outlets. Not to be confused with Audacity, sounds like ``odyssey``:

https://www.audacy.com/wwl

As for the QubaRM, IIRC, WWL was among many major US MW stations that the USG took over for VOA Spanish during the 1962 Missile Crisis; so maybe the Commies have not forgotten certain frequencies worth jamming, just in case!

and Terry L Krueger, Niceville FL panhandle has just reported in GMT:

``870 LOUISIANA WWL New Orleans 0826 8/29/21. Excellent live and local coverage with Hurricane Ida coverage, but sadly, terrible interference from co-channel Radio Reloj, Cuba with exceptionally terrible voltage wobbling noise and -- even more sinful -- WPWT, Colonial Heights, TN (C&W "96-3 The Possum"), a D1 that constantly runs 10,000 watts overnights. Recheck pre-sunrise on 8/30, WWL is much weaker. Still audible daytime though poor in local noise. The only other New Orleans-proper licensed station audible is 1280 kc/s WODT, which on 8/29 was blindly running Black Information Network feed, but on 8/30 at least was airing local coverage under the BIN branding. KLEB Golden Meadow 1600 kc/s (in the bullseye of Hurricane Irma) was noted pre-sunrise 8/29 but with the usual Blues/Cajun music. So far, I haven't traced their signal since but inconclusive`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
