Radio Miraya suspended for operating without a licence

The government has suspended UNMISS’ Radio Miraya from operating in the country after the station failed to comply with the laws of South Sudan.
Elijah Alier, the Managing Director of National Media Authority (NMA) said during a press conference that Radio Miraya has failed to obtained a licence. He said that NMA has written to Radio Miraya on several occasions, in June 2017, September 2017, November 2017, and February 2018. He added that Radio Miraya ignored NMA.
Alier said that Media Authority Act 2013 stipulates that nobody is allowed to broadcast without a valid licence. He said UN has refused for its radio to operate under the laws of the country.
NMA has ask the National Communication Authority to withdraw the frequency 101 from Radio Miraya effective immediately. A press release is attached below.
