Glenn Hauser logs October 29, 2017

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 6230-USB, Oct 29 at 1335, marine weather at S6 from VMW Wiluna WA, per EiBi, but occasional 2-way USB CC QRM with North American accent. Klingenfuss showed this is also a worldwide ship calling simplex frequency; not a good share. And Sound of Hope/ChiCom jamming could also attack it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA. 11865, Oct 29 at 1304, S Asian song, talk, good signal abutting Yemen non on 11860. Now it`s RBA per HFCC, 1125-1400 in Burmese, but likely in variety of minority languages too.

9610, Oct 29 at 1314, sounds English in S Asian praise group, S9-S7 with flutter. HFCC shows it`s Hindi service of RBA at 1300-1330, 100 kW at 305 degrees from KNX = Kununurra (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 6045 & 6045, Oct 29 at 1329, double CNR1 echo-jamming during Sunday evening serious music hour of Chinese opera singing. Now scheduled at 1200-1400 is IBB in Chinese-Mandarin, 250 kW, 30 degrees from Thailand, but quite buried here if not in China (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 29 at 1338, RHC `En Contacto` conversation between Arnie Coro and the hostess (sorry, I haven`t caught her name). It`s pretty obvious that Coro writes the entire script, including what she says to him, lacking any spontaneity (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 13820, Oct 29 at 1342, Radio Martí, Greenville carrier is already open and the DentroCuban Jamming Command is litely pulsing --- as it has been all summer with RM never on it. But they are all set, as for B-17 RM makes its usual inexplicable switch from 13605 to 13820 for day hours. 13605 still has heavy wall-of-noise jamming against nothing. At this hour, the only two frequencies of RM are really 11930, music over jamming, and 7435, Hallowe`en music with no jamming. At 1400 sharp, 7435 cuts off air, and 13820 starts modulating instead. Still lite jamming on 13820 and heavy jamming on 13605, as 11930 continues. RM ID plugs 1180 from one end of the island to the other, and webcast, but nothing specific about its ``onda corta`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 21277.22-USB, approx., Oct 29 at 1349, XE1IM says his call sign, nothing more, every few seconds, with fonetix in English. Must be a contest calling frequency, and hard to pinpoint as no carrier and certainly not on 1-kHz steps. QRZ.com shows him as: ``DUARTE OROPEZA HECTOR SALVADOR, Calle Mexico No. 7, Col. Ampliación Revolucion, URUAPAN, MICHOACAN. Entre Campeche y Puebla 60153, Mexico``, not clear which are his apellidos, but probably the first two.

21213.67-USB, approx., Oct 29 at 1351, NR3X also making split-frequency contest contacts. QRZ.com shows NR3X as ``NC CONTESTERS, 133 MADELINE CT, YOUNGSVILLE, NC 27596-9232, USA``. These are some good signals on 14m, sporadic E likely despite 21525 WRMI achieving nothing more than a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11610, Oct 29 at 1255, RNZI VG on NF; suspect it`s still *not* on the 325 antenna-only as supposedly for the 11-13 UT block. When last used, this frequency would be markedly weaker.

7355, Oct 29 at 1302 recheck, RNZP now switched to next NF, ex-5980 which lasted only a few weeks. 40m is better for us, holds up longer into our dayside, still good circa 1430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PALAU. 11675, Oct 29 at 1431 VG S9+10 in praise music, slow rolling fades. HFCC shows 1430-1600 as HBN = T8WH, 100 kW due west in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 6035-6040-6045, Oct 29 at 0601, DRM noise, but the ZY het on the low side still audible; now it`s RRI in French (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAIPAN. 11750.05, Oct 29 at 1307, off-frequency in SE Asian language. HFCC shows IBB in Khmer at 1230-1330, 100 kW, 270 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOMALILAND. 7120, Oct 29 at 1322, music and talk S6-S8 but quite undermodulated, from R. Hargeisa long path when English is scheduled. No QRhAM, avoiding this intruder frequency, altho an occasional ``blaap`` of unknown provenance. I don`t detect any spurs on 7078/7162 as Rumen Pankov has reported (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Oct 29 at 1504, REE is as expected a JBA carrier on North American 290-degree frequency which in B-seasons opens weekends at 1500. If we want to hear it, instead must tune to new 15500 really aimed oppositely 110 degrees to elsewhere, but fair S9, as REE doesn`t understand propagation 101. For the extended 15-23 weekend broadcasts, the first half needs to be on a much higher band for us, such as 15 or 17 MHz. Also audible on 17755 at 161 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TIBET [non]. 11512, Oct 29 at 1309, JBA carrier, presumed V of Tibet via TAJIKISTAN on signature split frequency. No ChiCom jamming on 11510 or 11515 yet. Not in HFCC, of course, and we now await the NDXC/Aoki B17 skeds which will surely show it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 12035.037, Oct 29 at 1332, VP talk, presumed English as now scheduled from VOT to Europe and USward, characteristically off-frequency-plus out of Emirler; ex 1230 on 15450 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 5840, Oct 29 at 1358, Korean from VOA // 9800. 5840 is TINIAN at 12-15; 9800 is Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 13-15. Never hear any jamming on these, maybe considered more for S than N Korea? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830 & 9475, Oct 29 at 1357, WTWW-1 still missing from night and day frequencies, no PPPP, tsk2222 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9470, Oct 29 at 1434, no signal from WEWN English as per own schedule at 09-15 to SE Asia beaming across North America. However there is an S3 carrier, which HFCC shows as Iran in Bengali 500 kW, 90 degrees from Sirjan at 1420-1520. And it also shows WEWN 9470 as 0900-1200 only. Meanwhile, Spanish WEWN on 12050 is S9 of dead air, but was modulating earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
