Glenn Hauser logs February 10-11, 2014

** JAPAN. 9750, Feb 11 at 1453, NHK is playing a bit of ``La Mer``, then some other classical music; with SAH, 1500 timesignal and strained Japanese talk, quite a contrast, sound effects, then ``Higher Ground`` originally by Stevie Wonder, 1506 a cover of ``Brick House`` originally by the Commodores. Seems the Radio Japanese let their hair down at midnight. As for the SAH, Aoki shows China, PBS Nei Menggu in Mongolian, and also Kuwait, but more likely the former (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 15575, Feb 11 at 1347, poor signal with heavy flutter, seems English, so the so-called N American service toward S America of KBS World Radio, first time I`ve heard it propagating since last definite log Oct 7; a few dates since then, 15575 bore instead ChiCom jamming since V. of Tibet was 2 kHz away.

KBS stupidly stix on same far too-high frequency all winter when it won`t propagate across the darkside, but we are starting to come out of it. Also audible 1447 just as poorly, presumably the subsequent Korean hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 11840, Feb 10 at 2014, VOA French via BOTSWANA is underneath stronger open carrier making medium-fast SAH. And is about 3 seconds behind // VOA French on 15225, which is Greenville. Nothing else scheduled on 11840, but possibly RHC carrier on way before *2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1707 monitoring: confirmed after Allen Graham ID, Tuesday Feb 11 at 1200 on WRMI 9955; sufficient atop pulse jamming. Next: Wednesday 1400 on 9955 when on NW antenna instead of SSE; Wednesday 0730 & 1530 on HLR 7265-CUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7570, Feb 11 at 0641, surprised to hear very strong signal, must be WRMI reactivated, with pro-creationist assertions, then Bill Nye The Science Gye with pro-science rebuttal --- so it`s the much heralded debate from Kentucky a few weeks ago. Even more surprisingly, it`s Brother Scare allowing Nye to have his say, however briefly until BS resumes at 0644, confirmed as such by // 7490 WHRI, 5085 WTWW, 5890 WWCR, 3185 WWRB; and maybe on 9840 WRMI, fair but JBM, and 9955 poor, but nothing audible on another WRMI scheduled frequency, 9495.

7570 is by far WRMI`s best frequency at night, but went off in late Jan as BS was reduced from 72 to 48 transmitter-hours per day. Remains to be heard if a temp test, or back to stay, as formerly scheduled 22-10 UT; but nothing on ex-corresponding all-day frequency at 10-22, 11825, at several chex around 12, 14, 17. The WRMI graphic frequency schedule still doesn`t show either, which were on the 315 degree antenna to the NW.

BTW, a reminder that Jeff White told me, ``5850 will be on beginning February 17``. It`s registered for 22-11 UT, but might not be on entire span. Program source unknown.

The complete 2:32 creationism debate video is available via
http://www.billnye.com --- when I bring it up at 1757 UT there is a 13-minute countdown until it begins at 1810; so plays only on its own schedule? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 660, Feb 11 at 1413 UT I check for KTNN Window Rock AZ, after good reception from 770 KKOB on day pattern. Yes, KTNN is in too, and zero-beat with KSKY The Metroplex such that there is *no* SAH and one can choose either by rotation. Now with PSA in English for Selective Service; 1414 PSA for not breaking bones, from orthoinfo.org, 1405 into Navajo language, but think I heard the English word ``referendum`` at 1419; 1421 back to English for sinus headache ad, and another for Valentine diamond rings. I guess poverty is no longer a problem on the res? Starting to fade at 1422 while KKOB is still in better. KTNN official sunrise is also 1400 UT in February (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 770, Feb 11 at 1404 UT, KKOB Albuquerque is VG with NM news, still audible at 1422. Official Feb sunrise is 1400 UT for 50 kW ND, tho I can often hear it at night, either leaking around the null toward WABC or from the 230-watt ND Santa Fe booster, infiller (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 880, Feb 11 at 1403 UT, ``Gospel 880, KLRG and K233BF, 94.5 FM, Sheridan-Little Rock`` (rather than KHAC despite NM/AZ on 770 and 660). WTFDA FM Database confirms the parallelism, but COL of K233BF is really Greenbrier, with 185 watts. That`s way north of LR beyond Conway AR on Hwy 65, and unlikely to reach LR at all. Of course, Sheridan is as far south of LR, but 50 kW daytime will certainly do the trick on 880 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1140, Feb 11 at 0653 UT, phone 701-9590 to place advertising on this station in southeast Missouri, then weather, from ``the Kickin` Country 105 weather center`` on ---- 104.9, Kickin` Country 105, and into country music. Dominant signal with XEMR nulled, no WRVA now. What`s this? FCC AM Query shows it`s a total daytimer, 1 kW ND! KPWB in Piedmont MO. WTFDA FM database agrees that KPWB is // 104.9 KPWB-FM also in Piedmont, country format, but doesn`t have the slogan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
