** AFGHANISTAN [non]. 7495, March 29 at 0117, S5/S7 in splash of 7490 WBCQ at Maryland SDR, sounds like Farsi, but occasionally Slavic? Maybe clips translated. 0123 ID as Radio Ashna. That`s one of several USAGM services for Afghanistan, now scheduled 0030-0230, 100 kW, 80 degrees from Lampertheim, GERMANY alternating semihours in Pst and Prs, i.e. Pashto and currently Dari = Persian. This is on page 505 of WRTH 2022 under USA, also on superpower MW 1296 in Kabul. Strangely, the Taliban did not eliminate or repurpose 1296 immediately upon takeover in August, but recently news that VOA and BBC have been banned. So what`s on 1296 now, if anything? That leaves SW like this, and maybe 972 from Tajikistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ALASKA. 6780-6820 approx., March 29 at 0708, huge wideband HAARP noise, S9+20+, after missing a couple nights. Other reports tonight to the WOR iog:
``With my MLA-30+ external antenna on, the HAARP signal's pinning my radio's meter and it can be heard 20 kHz to either side of 6800 here near Seattle. It's perfectly audible using just the whip antenna, too. I tuned in at 0628, heard it momentarily pause at 0644, and it's still on now at 0648 UT. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington USA``
``Very strong into Victoria at 0634 tune-in, centered on 6800 kHz March 29th. Off very briefly at 0645, but back again within about 30 seconds, but with a narrower digital bandwidth. Walt`` Salmaniw, BC
``Very strong 6800 at 0646 UT via SDR Frostburg MD, USA`` Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA [and non]. 250 MCW kHz, March 29 at 0638 UT, dash and FO, 1600-watt ND beacon at Flin FlOn, Manitoba, not heard in a long time, unlike regular 248 kHz, 1000-watt WG, Winnipeg. Also audible next up on 251, AM, Amarillo TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 13530, March 29 at 1424, Chinese, S6/S9 with flutter, QRMing CODAR, i.e. CNR1 jammer against Sound of Hope (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11880, March 28 at 2329, RHC with no signal in English, and 5040 is in Spanish; something`s always wrong at RHC. Yet, for yesterday March 27, Wolfgang Büschel reported:
``re Bauta Cuba 11880 kHz today March 27 / 28: RHC Bauta slewed 130 minus 30degr, real 100degr main azimuth towards Angola, RSA, Mozambique clientel in South Africa. Heard English today March 27 in 23-24 UT time lot during A-22 season. and \\ 5040 kHz Bauta relay in 60 meterband too. As usual back- and sidelobe signal in North America, even on excellent Perseus SDR at Edmonton CAN is always much decreased, tiny and poor strength. Today March 27 African service was on exact measured 11879.996 kHz, noted as always on remote SDR remotedly in Eastern Brazil Kiwi installation, on path towards Southern Africa across the Atlantic. At 2355 UT RHC English hour from Bauta site, S=9 or -67dBm signal strength in eastern Brazil Kiwi rx remotedly. Bauta TX switched OFF at 0001:45 UT exact, before some seconds of Spanish language service heard on that channel.`` When 11880 be on, certainly not tiny and poor here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6060 & 6165, March 29 at 0632, by luck of the draw, these happen to be the only RHC English frequencies running now. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13700, March 29 at 1425, S9+10 of dead air in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9899.767, March 28 at 2122, R. Cairo back here for totally useless English, silent carrier with occasional extremely distorted modulation peaks breaking thru, S9+30 into UTwente and way down to 9899.765 by 2157 recheck. Meanwhile nothing on new A-22 registered for 2115-2245 English, 9440 --- which was however reported in the WORO iog on first day of season, March 27 when I missed checking:
``Clear audio on the new A22 frequency 9440 in English from 2115-2245 on March 27. I could understand practically every word! Seems that the announcing team is wholly female. Good selection of interesting health, tourist and cultural items as well as World News. Radio Cairo is using the transmitter with the hum on the 9410-9440 channels. Modulation is much better. The hum can be reduced by notching out on the receiver. The transmitter with the severe distortion is used on 9810 2000-2115 in French (they used 9890 by mistake yesterday and co-channel to CRI). 9410 in German 1900-2000 seems to be co-channel to BBC. Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) Tomorrow?
** KURDISTAN [non]. 11530, March 29 at 1431, heavy music, S9/+10, presumably the Turkish jammer rather than target Dengê Welat which I cannot also detect; nothing on 11540 now where both of them had stuck for some time, nor on DW`s other channel 9525 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ROMANIA. 9700, March 29 at 0625, German closing with schedule and satellite parameters, RRI IS and off; S6/S8 with flutter, so Turkey is no longer here since B-21 ended. Nor is Cuba, but New Zealand is reported active after 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17855, March 28 at 2159 I`m checking out the new frequencies at the new 2200 M/W/F time for token English from REE. First into Maryland remote: 17855 S5-S7; 15520 S4-S6; 11940 much better despite for S America, S8/9+10 as lower MUF trumps azimuth; 11685 S6-S7 with RTTY+.
Direct to OK at 2208: 17855 is best here so far, S9/+20; 15520 S8/S9; 11940 S7/S9; 11685 S5/S7 but no RTTY. Meanwhile the feature previewed is about Rosalía, so likely another repeat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 9875.003, March 28 at 2112, VOT English on incredibly accurate new frequency for Europe from 2030, something about dioramas, S9+25 into UTwente, but transmitter break during music 2117*-*2119. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. I was looking for Cairo, see EGYPT.
9830, March 28 at 2210, now I`m checking direct reception of next retimed English broadcast, for us, no RTTY now but only S5/S9; 2212 `Feeling Supreme` with a very different subtitle which sounds like `Health Life`, and it`s yet another repeat about natural remedies as sleep aids including cherry pie -- yum! 2220 next feature is the one about dioramas, called `New Day, New Choices` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 9540.029, March 29 at 1437, S6/S9 of YL in Arabic, repeatedly mentioning ``Arabiya``. It`s TRT as now scheduled this hour only, 500 kW at 110 degrees, yet arriving well off the back to here, doubt long-path. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also KURDISTAN [non]
** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, March 29 at 0459-0516+, Ukrainian Radio relay via WRMI, S9+10 into Maryland SDR, continuous talk in Ukrainian language only, no English. Also mentioned ``po-Russki``. Maybe it`s Pres. Zelenskyy but I can`t recognize his voice for sure. Richard Langley suggests that the English capsules may have got lost in a merger of Ukrainian networks:
``Ukrainian Radio may have stopped the English segment "Ukraine: security issue" around 0100 UT during the unified broadcasts on its four channels. I didn't record a segment and there was no indication on the Ukrainian Radio website that it was broadcast on 28 March (UT). One can replay any segment of a day's broadcast. And Glenn reported that he did not hear an English segment this morning on the WRMI relay. There is now a special Web page for "Ukraine: security issue" indicating that this news segment is available on line in additional languages: Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Bulgarian, Russian, and Belarusian: http://www.nrcu.gov.ua/ua_security_issue Not all languages are available on every day. We'll have to see if the English segment is broadcast tomorrow. -- Richard Langley`` [March 28]
``Could it have moved an hour earlier with the clock change to summer time on 27 March across most of Europe, has anyone tried for English around 0000-0010 UT since 27th? 73s Dave Kenny``, UK
``I had thought of that but the segment wasn't listed anywhere in the day for the 28th. However, it was back today (29th) shortly after 0100 UTC (03:00 in Kyiv) with the quickly speaking male announcer. It looks like it was missing on the 28th due to airing a program on Pres. Zelensky's interview with the Russian journalists. -- Richard Langley``
Nevertheless, such English was not on the 0500 broadcast March 29 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [non]. New WORLD OF RADIO times: IRRS SW schedule now shows Sunday 1030 UT on 9510, presumably Romania, and followed by `Wavescan` at 1100. Unfortunately, skeds for Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat will not load! but presumably WOR still Friday 1815 on 7290, presumably Bulgaria, and the previously scheduled AM Italia 1323 times; and streaming only UT Saturdays at 2334.
Tim Gaynor is resuming SW from Unique Radio, Australia. Details at https://www.uniqueradio.biz/ 5035-USB, or alt. 3210-USB depending on propagation. From April 2 including WOR Saturdays at 0700 UT and Wednesdays at 1000. Also streaming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2131 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday March 29 at 0030 on WRMIs, 9395 & 9455 both S9+10/20 direct. Next:

** U S A. The unID Spanish program I heard UT Monday March 28 at 0430-0500 on 5985 WRMI must have been this: `Antena DX` from Panamá, reactivated monthly according to AER, which participates with a DX report:
``El programa se emite por primera vez el lunes posterior al cuarto domingo de mes por 5985 de 0430 a 0500 (domingo en la noche en las Américas) y se repite el jueves siguiente por 9955 de 0100 a 0130``
It`s unfortunate that often there is a considerable lag between something starting on the air and appearing correctly on the WRMI skedgrid. Now it does show `Antena DX` only once, and at a totally different time, Wednesdays 1300-1330 UT on 9955; while Wednesdays at 9-9:30 pm EDT on 9955 is `Aletheia Quest with Alan Fahrner`, whatever in the world that may be. Wasn`t `Antena DX` once also on the WBCQ schedule? But not shown now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9955, Tue March 29 at 1441, no signal from this WRMI, so final repeat of `SW Radiogram` is missed. Still in well are 9395 & 9455 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. (7490v), Monday March 28 at 2330, WBCQ webcast after secret semi-repeat of UBMP, `Camp Constitution Radio` starts without an extraneous intervening spot commercial after its opening theme (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 7505, March 29 at 0118, no signal from WRNO into Maryland SDR; indeed had been missing lately at nitemiddle chex direct, but also AWOL from nominal *0100 UT during DST (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-oceanic JBA MW carrier search, March 29 at 0640 UT: 846, no doubt Kiritimati; 1107 & 1125, likely remnants of Spain. Not a total bandscan, but not much to be heard as late as this with earlying TA sunrises and rising noise levels (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
