Glenn Hauser logs September 15, 2017

** COLOMBIA. 5910.355, Sept 15 at 0542, Alcaraván Radio with tropical music fading S9-S7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5025, Sept 15 at 0541, R. Rebelde is just barely modulated. 5040 RHC English is good; 6100 is off, but 6000, 6060 and 6145 are on with undermodulation, especially 6145.

5025, Sept 15 at 1236, S9+10 of open carrier, JBM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 17580, Sept 15 at 1257, RHC is VG S9+20, virtually the OSOB, with report from Santa Clara about damage to airport there and giving toll-free 0-800 phone numbers to the US for Jet Blue and American Airlines. Don`t blame Cuba for disruptions in flights (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9490, Sept 15 at 1247, multiple pulse jamming against VOA Korean, helping out their Commie comrades (really, a bit late for Radio República on same frequency). Also pulse jamming against nothing on 9880 at 1244 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [and non]. 3925, Sept 15 at 1229, again no signal from R. Nikkei 1 tho supposed to last until 1415 on Fridays. 6055 on, 9595 inaudible too. Maybe on another of those extended maintenance breaks? 3945 does have a signal, in fact two, so maybe R. Vanuatu in addition to R. Nikkei 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KYRGYZSTAN. 4010.220, Sept 15 at 1232, JBA carrier, on exactly the same frequency Wolfgang Büschel reported Bishkek Birinchi R1 from Krasnaya Rechka, last May 9 (as subsequently researched). Can`t find a more recent precision of it, tho several logs as ``4010``. Good for grayline: sunset 1312 UT, my sunrise 1214 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 770, Sept 15 at 1210, several ``Los Cuarenta`` slogans atop  music, i.e. XEREV Los Mochis, Sinaloa, owning the frequency now; would that be 5000 watts day or 100 watts night? Had just tuned past other NW Mexicans on 650, 700, 710, 730. KKOB NM should pop on to ND day pattern at 1245 during September (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Another check of WRMI FB, the only place to go for updates:

``0320 UTC Friday, September 15 - Oh no, our power went out again. The only frequency we still have on the air is 9395 kHz at very low power using our generator.

0300 UTC Friday, September 15 - I went with our Facility Manager, Pat Travers, on a drive through our antenna field today. It was rough driving through the swampy, wet, muddy terrain which reminded me of the safari game drives I took in South Africa a couple of weeks ago. I saw why it is so difficult to repair the damage from Hurricane Irma in the field. There are transmission lines down all over the place, and many of the poles that hold them up need to be repaired or replaced. It is a big project, and our engineers are working on it one by one. We got one more transmitter on the air today (Transmitter 7, 21525 kHz), and we hope to get a few more on the air tomorrow. Our telephone and Internet service is still down. --Jeff White, General Manager

WRMI Radio Miami International added 5 new photos to the album: Hurricane Irma Damage at WRMI — in Fort Drum [sic], Florida.

Looks like a lot of repairs need to be done, so I do not expect all frequencies for quite some time. Internet is back, however, allowing WOR 1895 to be uploaded, but still won`t be heard unless the 11580 service be resumed by Saturday evening at 2300, UT Sunday 0200.

9955, Sept 15 at 1242, WRMI is back on air after another power outage, with Radio Eslovaquia Internacional, S9+10 and no jamming, // 9455 S9+10 too; during mailbag with rather formal acknowledgments of reports from Cuba, Argentina.

9395, Sept 15 at 1248, WRMI with `The Power [sic] Hour` resumed, S9-S6, allegedly still on 100-watt exciter, generator-powered only. Runs about a semiminute behind much stronger // 7490 WWCR, but that lasts only until 1300. Substitute hostess calls herself Sam.

9955, Fri Sept 15 at 1345, I`m standing by to hear whether WRMI is still running the 21525 aircheck from Nigeria, or a new Viva Miami? Yes, Jeff says recorded Monday Sept 11 at 2300, so it`s already outdated, but glean these details: generator is 25 kW, not enough for air conditioning and it`s quite hot, but runs office and studio and one low-power transmitter. Max winds doing all the damage to antennas and feedlines were 71 mph, at 9:30 pm Sunday, when Irma came closest, 50 miles to the west. Total rainfall was 17 inches. The dike held at Lake Okeechobee, tho evacuations were being prepared for. Currently a curfew 9 pm to 9 am. Some stores were still/already open, including Walmart, maybe with gas, but shortage elsewhere. 19 out of 20,000 FPL customers in Okeechobee were out of power. At the time of recording, Jeff expected this to be heard only on the live stream (but it went and came again later). First time I had heard it, anyway; only 7 minutes long before music fill (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search Sept 15 at 1201-1208 UT: 1098 from west; 774, 702 and 612 from WSW; no others thru topend. Our sunrise today: 1214 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1010, Sept 15 at 1214 UT, ballad music in Spanish roughly E/W. Format might fit for XELO Chihuahua or XEWS Culiacán (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
