** ALBANIA. 9855, March 31 at 2356, R. Tirana Albanian hour to N America in
closing music, 2357 national anthem, 2358 IS and off. Fair signal, no
interference co- or adjacent. Nearest signal is Chinese on 9865, no problem.
*2359 pops on 9850 instead with carrier and then IS until 2400*, i.e.
setting up for the next broadcast, English at 0130 on 5 kHz lower.
There
is a slight QRM overlap, but not a big problem. By 2357 or so I am hearing
something underneath 9855, clear but poor at 2359, which turns out to be VOA
Tibetan via Kuwait, with a VOA jingle at 0001.
9850, April 1 at 0127, R.
Tirana IS, fair with flutter. On the PL-880 with short random wire, dbu ranges
31-51, average about 46. There are storms not far away to the south in Oklahoma,
and the noise floor level on unoccupied 9840 ranges 19-23 dbu. No adjacent or
co-channel interference plus 5 or 10. In fact, the only significants are
bookends Turkey in Spanish back on same frequencies as last A, 9770 and 9870.
0130 sign-on with correct times and frequencies for the two English broadcasts
starting March 29, into news.
Recheck at 0155 during closing music, still
no QRM problem, dbu ranges 37-49; 0157 theme, 0158 IS to 0158.5*. So both
frequencies are working well in the new season. However, modulation is not
sufficient; as Wolfy suggests, should add an OPTIMOD to boost it (Glenn Hauser,

** ALGERIA [non]. 13820, March 31 at 1942, music
on very poor signal, must be RTA via FRANCE as scheduled 18-20 UT, audible now
that Cuba has moved all its jammers to 13605 following Martí (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11745 & 11815, March 31 at 2355,
crackling spurs from RNA 11780.1v are audible already, and a trace on 11710
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March
31 at 1941, DentroCuban Jamming Command finally hits R. Martí`s A-frequency
instead of B-frequency 13820 as they were still doing this morning. RM is still
atop the wall-of-noise and easily readable. Arnie must have finally got around
to reading my logs ridiculing their incompetence; Sorry, Martí, but this was no
secret, as in HFCC for all to see (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See
ALGERIA [non]
** GREECE. 15650, March 31 at 1939, dbu range 25-44, poor
signal in music, sounds ME or Greek, 1943 Greekish W&M talk; 1957 Greek
music, plays past 2000, but their clock is slow since a timesignal ends at
2000:49! Then surprise ID for ``Radiophonikos Stathmos Makedonias``, theme, a
bit of open carrier, and cut off at 2001:41*. Maybe moved to 9420 but would not
propagate now, and I`ve not heard that for at least a week at night when it
would (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 17550, March 31
at 2002, no signal from R. Kuwait, tho previous frequency 13650 was audible
poorly before 2000 and off now. By 2003 with BFO I can detect a JBA carrier on
17550, so apparently it`s on but not a good day to propagate. As always, nothing
on 15540, the former English frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** SPAIN [and non]. 17855, March 31 at 1935, no signal from REE,
the new frequency it started March 29 and 30 --- leaving 17850 FRANCE without
QRM. Did they see and act on my remark about absurdity of such adjacency on an
almost empty band? Tuning around, I find REE instead on 17715, poor signal in
Castilian, so is it still the North American beam? // fair 15490. Tuning
further, at 1940 I find the third frequency is another new one, 15450! Where
will they be tomorrow? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A.
5850, March 31 at 2355, Global 24 via WRMI continues during the 23-24 hour only
on weekdays, but it`s a good one: `Democracy Now`, which now has coverage
filling in numerous radio gaps, including Oklahoma. WRMI 11825 now off the air
at this hour except weekends with Global 24 (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, March 31 at 1941, WTWW-3, Bible story in English
with dramatic music, VG signal, contrary to nominal schedule of Spanish this
hour. Recheck 2006 now it`s in Brazuguese, scheduled as Portuguese (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. March 31 at 1943, I notice
that WTWW 9475 is audibly much weaker than neighbor in TN, WWCR 9980, which
continues to blast in despite some daytime absorption affecting other USA 30-31
mb signals (and suspected mostly running underpowered, too, and/or unfavorable
antennas). So just for comparison, on the PL-880 with a few meters of random
wire, I take dbu readings for them all within a few minutes at 1949-1956 UT,
rearranged from weakest to strongest:
9515, 18-20, no signal measuring
noise floor
9395, 20-26, WRMI
9265, 23-30, WINB
9840, 28-36,
WHRI
9370, 27-47, WWRB
9475, 30-49, WTWW
10000, 50-53, WWV --- note
steadiest and second strongest, only 10 kW
9980, 58-65, WWCR
9955,
20-24, no signal from WRMI, noise floor here
(Greenville/Martí doesn`t start
until 2000; WBCQ still silent on 9330)
