** ANGUILLA [non]. 11775, April 20 at 2050, CBB is still off, but nothing else
is heard here, not WHRI which Ivo had reported to be on 11775 at 20-22 as well
as after 22. Same transmitter, I think, is weakly heard on 11670 instead where
it blox All India Radio, poor with BS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** AUSTRALIA. 15340, April 20 at 1256, RBA IS and ID prior to S
Asian service, but equally mixed with Chinese CCI. Fortunately it`s just an
overlap, as from 1300, RBA is in the clear, fair signal. Mostly S Asian songs
first quarter-hour, 1314 announcing P O Box addresses in both India and
Pakistan. Per Aoki, Tuesdays only it`s Nepali for a half hour at 1300-1330; some
other days only until 1315 or other regional languages. So why would Nepalis
ripe for conversion have to write to India or Pakistan? Also per Aoki, the only
excuse for CNR1 to be on 15340 is to jam a 100-watt Sound of Hope transmitter on
Taiwan which could be on until 1630 but fortunately must get off in time for RBA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) But see also CUBA
** CUBA. 15730,
April 21 at 1343 UT, NO signal from RHC`s new frequency, altho 15700 CRI relay
carrier is already on strong.
15340, at 1357 I find RHC here atop Reach
Beyond Australia! 15340 is an old RHC frequency but not on latest schedule; it`s
// 15370 and sounds a bit stronger than that, which is plenty. Recheck at 1415,
now 15340 is clear again for RBA, so maybe a mistake by RadioCuba; ensuing,
however, no resumption of 15730 past 1430 chex altho sked until 1500 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN [non]. 15735, April 21 at 1343,
open carrier, fair with flutter, i.e. Tashkent transmitter on way early; 1400
comes to life with timesignal 4 or 5 seconds late (wasn`t eyeing my watch), and
sign-on NHK World Radio Japan, English relay via UZBEKISTAN. Only poor with
flutter, but lux out today with no ACI from new 15730 Cuba, q.v., due to
confusion in Habana putting it on 15340 instead. // 11705 Palau for Japan in
English at 14 is much better here, unchecked today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** KOREA SOUTH. 15575, April 21 at 1354, KBS World
Radio has finally attained a decent listenable signal level as we are getting
closer to summer. Good and not much flutter; meanwhile US signals are JBA or
absent on the band. Discussing how Korean pop singers had their songs banned in
the `70s for all kinds of dictatorial objexions to the subjects or lyrix which
might seem innocent-sounding. 1358 outro as ``Korea Panorama 70 Years`.
The 13-14 UT so-called ``North American`` service stays on 15575
yearound, even tho it is totally unsuitable and barely propagable, if at all,
for half the year. Now maybe we will be able to hear the 3 minutes of DX news /
``listening tips`` from Kevin O`Donovan in Farmington NM, alternating with
others still? Saturdays circa 1350 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 710-, April 21 at 0620 UT, no modulation but LAH is
audible from NE/SW, presumed usual variant XEDP Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua,
which someone measured on 709.865 as of last August (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 730, April 20 at 0619 UT, surprised to hear
the NA playing, orchestral version, looping westward, a bit late after local
midnight if from the UT-6 zone. 730 is normally dominated by XEHB, 50/1 kW,
Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, so I am even more surprised to hear an ID
following for XHSOS FM 97.3 y XESOS AM 730, 25 kW (which is the FM power, AM
listed as 2000/300 watts!, 24h), ``La Ranchera de Agua Prieta``, and into such
music. No sign of XEHB, off now? XESOS is stronger than 100/100 kW XEX from the
south. Agua Prieta, Sonora, is the border town across from Douglas in the SE
corner of AZ, so in UT -7 zone, playing anthem at 11:18 pm local. On a Sunday
night, maybe skewed by `La Hora Nacional`, which might have aired at 10 pm
local, after which some stations patriotically play the NA rather than (or in
addition to?) at midnite.
730, April 21 at 0621 UT, rechecking 24+ hours
later, no NA, but ``La Ranchera`` ID with a ``siete`` in a frequency, loops
west, and again no sign of XEHB, Ke Buena. Its nominal hours in the IRCA Log are
only 13-01 UT, but seems I have heard it later (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 6185-, April 20 at 0556, open carrier, no doubt XEPPM
which would have stopped modulating circa 0500, and sometimes leaves its carrier
on for at least an hour. Slightly on the lo side as usual, at least compared to
3185 WWRB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5850, Monday
April 20 at 2357, I tune in WRMI just in time to confirm that Global 24 is still
on here with an hour of `Democracy Now` which is wrapping up. G24 outro,
commercial, cut off in time to join Slovakia relay at hourtop.
Noting
some details, I compare it to audio of today`s show on the D.N. website, http://democracynow.org and there is NO
match. Amy said something about PBS` Frontline being on tonight, which would
mean originally broadcast on a Tuesday --- but I don`t find a match either with
the last three Tuesday DNs from her audio archive (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 780, April 20 at 0622 UT, WBBM Chicago IL,
but two reporters in a row sign off as ``Newsradio on 105.9 FM``, no mention of
AM. Is this now standard on WBBM, further dooming its negligible AM side which
only happens to cover half the nation? The off-frequency Mexican het doesn`t
help until I null it, and then there`s Colorado music CCI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 15649.5-SSB, April 21 at 1420, 2-way
intruder, very poor and intermittent; at first concluded it`s non-Spanish until
I heard a ``puta`` and a ``cambio`` in extremely colloquial accent, also
whistling by totally unprofessional miker. At least no Greece or anything else
on 15650 to be bothered (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
