KVOH is testing this weekend on 9975 kHz, from 0100-0400 UTC on Sat 7th & Sun 8th September, 2013 (Friday and Saturday evenings in the Americas).
When our regular programming re-commences, details will be posted here.
In most cases, a built-in telescopic antenna is all you need to enjoy our programs. However, you may be able to improve your reception by adding a simple long-wire antenna.
- Use any kind of wire 10-30 meters / 30-100 feet long. Place the wire out in the open, away from sources of electrical interference, as high above the ground as possible, and broadly facing towards Los Angeles. Do not point the wire at Los Angeles the weakest reception will be of stations off either end of the antenna. Insulate the ends of the wire with wood, plastic, or ceramic.
- Then, cut a length of shielded TV coax cable as the lead-in wire to your radio. Pare back the shielding on both ends, and use only the center core. Twist the center core at one end around the long-wire antenna, ensuring there is good electrical contact, and connect the other end to your radio using a banana plug (or whatever connector your radio requires).
Be careful building your antenna, and be sure to disconnect it from your radio during stormy weather.
