Longtime shortwave evangelist Ed Bousman dies

Known for his nearly 50-year-old radio broadcast ministry based on prayer, evangelist Ed Bousman passed away Monday after a long illness. He was 92. Mr Bousman, who served several decades as a preacher at the Lynchburg First Church of Christ and Allensburg Church of Christ, began the God Is Just A Prayer Away ministry in 1962. This November would have marked the ministry's 50th year. According to his website, www.gijapa.org, in 1984 he started the "Preaching Christ" television programme, seen mainly on satellite in North America, Alaska and South America. Then in 1997, he started "Bible Voice Europe" on shortwave radio. That same year, Mr Bousman started broadcasting via Radio Africa [in Equatorial Guinea], reaching over 140 million English-speaking people in three former British colonies: Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon. Beginning in June 1999, he was broadcasting in to India via Radio Sri Lanka. This shortwave broadcast reaches India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, the website says. By 2003, funding permitted Mr Bousman's ministry to reach many additional countries, including western Russia and Poland. (via Media Network)
