Last broadcast to NAm will be March 30, so this is the last FATW toward NAm, but next week`s show will be the last for Kay Fujimoto in fiscal-year personnel turnover; apparently Mick Corliss will be staying, with a new co-hostess from April. 0524 finishing with a song, 0526 announcing new A-13 English schedule including several transmissions to be dropped:

There are two affiliates on 790, XEGAJ Guadalajara, Jal., and XENT La Paz BCS, surely the latter as loops southwest. Today`s sunrise in Guadalajara is 1254, and La Paz 1321 per gaisma.com, and 1229 here. Usual conflicting info about powers; IRCA says XEGAJ is 1 kW, Cantú and WRTH say 250 watts. Fair with flutter, but quite readable, rather different harsher audio than we get from Noblejas direct, such as 17595 fortunately active Sundays secretly for us, but who knows what will result after A-13/DST jumbling next week? At least maybe we shall no longer be faced with the choice of hearing Spain`s or Cuba`s DX show at 1335.

** U S A. 1230, March 24 at 0517 UT, sweep tones upward over and over, from the direxion of KSEY Seymour TX during its scheduled 2-hour DX test. This is easily audible without much QRM by tuning the DX-398 to 1232-USB, but I am not hearing any code IDs. Further:

0519 sweeps; 0523 sweeps; 0525 beeps but not code?; 0528 busy signal; 0529 sweeps; 0530 rapid beeps, sweeps. 0530 I switch to center-tuning 1230 on AM, and still hear some sweeps; 0531 slow code, but too much QRM to copy; 0533 sweeps; 0536 beeps, not code, busy signal; 0538 slow code now with partial copy: --XAS; 0542 now I copy: KSEY SEYMOUR TEXAS, more sweeps; with that I move on to other DX, but recheck 0608, sweeps; 0612 code (I am now calling this CW, because it isn`t).

I never heard any music or voice announcements from KSEY but some may have been lost in the mass of graveyard QRM. The pitch and modulation level of the code IDs were much below the sweep tones, unfortunately. It`s only 209 miles = 336 km from Seymour to Enid, and there are no 1230s in between. ** CHINA. 15795, March 23 at 1314-1315* CNR1 echo jamming, cut off abruptly uncovering nothing. That`s exactly when India`s only Chinese sesquihour ends. The ChiCom ensure that any communication between neighbors is strictly one-way, with countless unjammed CRI broadcasts in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil!

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 15575, Saturday March 23, will KBS World Radio be audible today during `Worldwide Friendship`? At 1337 there is a very poor signal, but at 1341 it sounds more like a BBC documentary than the jollity of KBS. By 1355, too late, there is CCI between them.

BBC Cyprus remains scheduled on 15575 due east at 10-14. Of course, that will be terminated in a week with all other Cypriot transmissions. HFCC A-13 shows no BBC replacement, nor even KBS before 1400 on 15575, altho that remains on its own schedule grid I presented yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT [and non?]. 21540, March 23 at 1328, R. Kuwait again with that alarm-like squishy pulsing QRM; seems to be fading independently, indicating it is not from the same transmitter with a defect. How about Spain? Usually co-channel but not hearing it under 21540 now, altho audible weakly on 21610. Maybe the pulses are coming from the REE transmitter, serving Kuwait right for usurping this frequency despite original registration on clear 21520 which it has refused to use (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, UT Saturday March 23, pirate with music, hitting 7-8 signal bars on the DX-398 on the porch with a few meters of external antenna inplugged; lyrix ``Everybody knows --- that`s how it goes``, sort of a cowboy song like PPP might sing. 0112 cuts off song abruptly, seemingly live announcement about 6925-USB, was Leonard Cohen, which inspires him, ``on board the R/V Red Mercury``, refers to experiments below, got secret clearance; shoutouts to RCCI in Chicago, S5 signal there; pumping out about 110 watts; address redmercurylabs @ yahoo.com. 0114 intro an oldie but goodie, hard rock. I find it`s so strong it`s pumping, but sounds fine if I turn the RF gain on the DX-398 all the way down! That must qualify for S9 here. Can also hear it OK with whip only and full RF gain.

0119.5, another live announcement, winds NW at 12 kts gusting to 16-18; a bit rough on the hi seas, storm coming in. Has been a tough week, with regulatory agencies, audit next week, a few experiments went awry. More shoutouts: Duckmaster in western Mass, S-3; northwest Oregon, S5; west coast, S7; Joe Farley in Chicago, S8. Says it`s a Yoshi transmitter. S4 in Houston, S9 at Dr. Strangelove`s. May have more equipment aboard this summer, more voltage. Found the Yoshi transmitter in New Mexico desert in the late 50s, top secret. Last song was Megadeath. Pirate says he has been in bands, plays bass guitar; 0124 will wrap it up soon after a 6-minute oldie. And it`s about time for me to tune over to me on Area 51, which is only one or two bars stronger on 5110v-CUSB than RML.

** OKLAHOMA. 1650, March 23 at 0105 UT, haven`t checked KYHN Sallisaw/Fort Smith AR for several days, so are they still stunting? Yes! Still claiming to be a 10,000-watt station eclipsing puny 1 kW-ers, even tho they better be 1,000 watts themselves after sunset; sounds like it, as periodically losing out to Iowa. Promo for Clark Howard Show at 5-8 pm, 0107 still plugging it; 0108 singing ID for western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma, again flaunting its 10 kW superpower, announcing as `program previews`. This has been going on since reactivation Feb 11, first logged here Feb 12. When will KYHN ever get down to business? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PALAU. After last Sunday`s debacle, made sure to check T8WH on Saturday when it`s supposed to be on 9930 and 9965 again: March 23 at 1238, 9930 has gospel huxter in English, 9960 in Khmer with BRB`s clandestine. 9930 goes off at 1300* and 9965 comes on at *1300, as if the same transmitter switched? Latter with R. Australia starting Chinese. So there can`t be any mixing product landing on 10000 or 10035.

Per Aoki, 9930 is supposed to stay on past 1300 with `Truth for the World` on Saturdays and otherhuxters till 1400; maybe some haven`t paid up. However, at 1349 check, 9930 is back on with a lo-fi, hummy g.h., scheduled `Day of Challenge`. At 1350, 9965 remains OK with RA Strine lesson for Chinese, and no spurs. ** U S A [and non]. 15580, Friday March 22 at *2000-2100*, VOA with `The African Beat` excellent signal, since this hour only is eastward from Greenville, which radiates incredibly westward; before 2000 and after 2100, much weaker signals via Botswana. Believe it or not, I take my nap during most of the hour to this hyper music on phones, overcoming TV set sound not far away; at 2057 I am startled to hear the closing announcement, ``As the US celebrates its independence today``, making me suspect it`s a rerun from some July 4 --- are any new TAB shows really being produced?

Note to self: try again. Probably one of the easterners in Oaxaca, Veracruz or SLP. IRCA Log shows XERASA SLP and XETI Veracruz both close at 0600, but XECORO Oaxaca is tropical. 15400, March 22 at 1417:34, just as I tune across here, Firedrake cuts on mixing with Tibetan which is still readable, i.e. VOT, 1400-1428, 250 kW, 45 degrees from MADAGASCAR. So was it in the clear until then? Otherwise, Firedrake ordinarily runs thruout VOT transmissions, unlike jamming of Sound of Hope taking a break during the first third of the hours. No other Firedrake found 11-18 MHz by 1420 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

When viewed with Open Office Calc, the key to relay sites does not display properly, but of note is 9605 in Spanish at 01-02, which is surely the one from South Carolina (WHRI), which was tested a few weeks ago, replacing defunct Guiana French. Otherwise it looks about the same as before.

KBS` own KIM site is back in HFCC for A-13, but that`s full of ``wooden registrations`` and most of them lacking languages, despite pleas of HFCC HQ. Nevertheless, 15575 is NOT shown for the 13-15 broadcasts for, if not to, North America! And still, no azimuths of less than 81 degrees are shown, i.e. nothing really for N America, further north than Japan, Hawaii and southern S America. What about their publicized new transmitter? Is it in service yet?

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1661 monitoring: first airing confirmed Thursday March 21 at 2100.5 on WTWW-1 9479. Second airing confirmed on WWRB 3195 (no 5050), UT Friday March 22 at 0332, after Pastor Larry ``amen & amen`` Cain, Anderson SC runs a bit late, but no respectful pause. On webcast, last minute of WOR is consequently cut off at 0400.

BTW, the 3195 signal is noticeably weaker than the other WWRB, 3185 with Brother Scare. According to FCC B-12, 3185 is 45 degrees, 3195 is 46 degrees, both 100 kW, so they should be identical.

** CUBA. After all the anomalies on Saturday, I recheck RHC on Sunday afternoon March 17, and find it more or less back to `normal`:

11880, at 2224 is back in French instead of Portuguese, but at 2230  goes into Portuguese. Portuguese has already been running on 15230 from 2200, but re-opened at 2229 with IS and ID. I then find the same program is on 11880, but 65 seconds behind 15230 rather than synchronized as happened before. Does the one-hour Portuguese broadcast, whenever and wherever it may be, always consist of one same semi-hour repeated?

Spanish frequencies with music around 2230: 11840, 15340, 15230.

15370 at 2231, this being Sunday, opens Esperanto instead of French.

11880 at 2300 March 17, is back in English instead of Spanish yesterday.

5040, OTOH, at 0550 UT March 18, is in Spanish instead of English, which continued on the overkill 49m channels. Now what?

Still RHC SS at 1358 as I amuse myself listening to outdated frequency announcement not including the one I am listening to! 17580, 17730, 15230, 15340, 9540, 13780, 11760, 11860, 11690, 11750 and he keeps saying most of them will be on until 1600, ignorant of the timeshift a week ago until 1500*

It is not until 1400:30 that 13740 is suddenly switched to CRI English, joined in progress. Refund a few yuan? One of SW`s great mysteries is why RHC has never been relayed in exchange via China. Just no interest in reaching Asia?

It seems this transmitter needs a settling-in period, as by 2236 the spurs had relented, tho still some buzz around 9905.

At 2237, it`s the same guy as yesterday, even tho he said then, ``back next week``, with one long monolog, at the moment about seat belts. Maybe today he will outro with some ID: yes, at 2258, show has been `The Red Letter Edition Rewind`, (which alludes to certain versions of the Bible which print alleged words of JC himself in red, altho he certainly spoke no English), http://www.thinkredink.com and ``back tomorrow``, he now says. Indeed website leads to addresses in Pie Town, New Mexico, which, yes, got its name originally as a source of pies. He`s modest about proclaiming his name on the air, Don Harris. Website indicates he`s quite a character with his bus and remote lifestyle. 2259 into another same show as yesterday, 15-minute `Moments of Inspiration`.

By next check 0026 UT Monday March 18, WTWW-2 has switched to 5085 (probably at 0000), despite assumption be DX Re Mix News March 11 that the QSY would be at 2300. Now it`s Ted Randall taking musical requests. Again distorted modulation with ripple/wobble on the carrier. It was never a ``public radio`` station in the usual sense. ``The Rocket`` has been in trouble for years, and the FCC finally stomped them for: running advertising, and antenna too high per LP regs, which brought a complaint two+ years ago from legit Enid commercial broadcaster Chisholm Trail Broadcasting (KNID, KXLS, KCRC, etc.).

Since antenna is atop the Broadway Tower building in downtown Enid, it`s not feasible to lower it without chopping off the top few stories of the building. Thus a complete change of site would be required.

So I immediately tuned in 104.7, and it`s still on the air March 18 at 1800 UT. Recorded several hours as a collector`s item. I rarely listen to it otherwise, but some of the tunes like ``Dust in the Wind`` by Kansas, and ``I Fought the Law and I Won`` seem to allude to its predicament.

Altho immediately online, the FCC notice goes to KEIF by certified mail, return receipt requested, so KEIF may pretend not to be notified for a few days until the hard copy arrive, and it`s still on the air March 19 past 1630 UT. Contacted one of their DJs who thought the matter was still in ``mediation``; he`s apparently in denial, or in the dark.

Judging from history of illegal parameters from its founding, refusal to coöperate, pay fines, or even respond to the FCC, I won`t be surprised if it tries to stay on the air as a pirate, altho online-only would be the way to go. The mastermind behind it is Scott Clark, who has vowed it will never go off the air.

** JAPAN. NHK World Radio Japan, A-13 English. This is extracted from HFCC. I won`t specify the targets, as R. Japan is forcing listeners elsewhere to try to hear them off-beam. Effective March 31:

That site is closing down, and nothing is replacing these broadcasts. Possibly they will surprise us and come up with some site instead of these two GUF transmissions, but don`t count on it.

NHK LISTENERS SHOULD BE BOMBARDING THEM WITH QUESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TERMINATION OF ENGLISH TO NORTH AMERICA.

AFAIK, R. Japan has made no formal announcement on the air or on the website about abandoning its North American listeners in English, tho I can`t say I have heard or seen everything which may be out there.

Besides starting a new SWBC season at the end of March, the beginning of April is a new fiscal year in Japan, when NHK normally makes some programming and personnel changes.

** MEXICO. 770, March 21 at 0608 UT `Los 40 Principales` 104.3 FM ID, rock in English, dominating channel. Hard to believe it`s the 100- watts-at-night XEREV, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, as in IRCA Log, but it`s the only XE on 770 with that slogan and that corresponding FM. Cantú agrees the power is 5000 watts day, 100 watts night. WRTH says the day power is only 1000 watts, but all three agree on the night power. ** MEXICO. 900, March 21 at 0602 UT after choral NA, full ID for XEDT, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, and XHDT 98.3 with 25 kW; then music starts but abruptly cuts off the air at 0603*, apparently intentional midnight close for the AM side, but extremely rude. At least it`s more than the sked in IRCA Mexican log showing 14-02 UT on 900. Did not hear the name `Hits FM` as in IRCA and WRTH, but it`s obvious the AM is now treated as subsidiary (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU [and non]. 5980, March 21 at 0055, CNR1 jamming of VOA is no longer a problem due to propagation, so the DentroCuban Jamming Command fills in on occasion with noise against no Radio Martí whatsoever at this hour, helping to block DX reception of R. Chaski, Urubamba, Perú, but which still manages enough of a carrier to be detectable with BFO until its progressively-later cutoff each night, now at 0101:17.5* or so (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This airing is probably the best chance to hear WS in N America, beyond the skip zone from Red Lion; altho KSDA Guam, UT Sundays at 2230 on 15320 often comes in surprisingly well (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1661, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 9980, March 21 at 1332, strange conditions, with Brother Scare via WWCR barely audible squeezed between much stronger 9975 KTWR in Chinese, and fax on the hi side.

9479, WTWW is sufficient but not a full-bore supersig as it usually is along with 9980 WWCR. US stations on higher bands are barely audible if at all, e.g. 12050 & 15610 WEWN, 13845 & 15825 WWCR.

** U S A [and non]. 780, interesting situation here March 21 at 0604 UT. KSPI Stillwater OK is still leaving its 250-watt-daytimer carrier on all-night. With WBBM nulled, I am hearing KSPI`s fast SAH beating against ``Lonesome Man`` and another bluegrass song, i.e. the new KCEG Pueblo CO with 720 watts night; the two are in roughly opposite direxions.

Rotating the radio at 0606, both of those disappear, and I hear instead WBBM and something in Spanish, a Mexican with a CST timecheck I would love to identify, those two being in roughly opposite direxions. In between, KSPI makes a slower SAH with WBBM, which is rather attenuated in somewhat auroral conditions (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11740 approx., March 21 circa 1330, TADIL-A bonker like beating an anvil, intruding on the SWBC band. Who`s behind this? Has infested this area sporadically for years. Too poor to copy but not // much better RA English frequencies 15515, 15240, 13630 and even 15415 which are // each other. 17750 must be on the Asian stream, i.e. `Bush Telegraph` scheduled, while the others are `Pacific Beat`, about coping with crime in PNG.

HFCC shows 17750 is 2330-0700 on 329 degree beam from Shepparton to CIRAF 44S, 50, 51W, 54E, i.e. Indonesia, Philippines, eastern China.
HFCC shows 15415 is 2200-0700 on 355 degree beam from Shepparton to CIRAF 45, 51, 64, i.e. Papua New Guinea to Japan

** MEXICO. 540, March 20 at 0510-0520 UT, `Los 40 Principales` slogans and pop music, YL DJ, i.e. current format of XEWA San Luis Potosí, SLP. Lots of QRM but this signal stays marginally atop with receiver aimed N/S; I still can`t believe it`s anywhere near the nominal 150 kW. Slogan is a cumbersome translation of English ``Top 40``, but now widespread in Mexico, one in every market, it seems. In this case, I wonder if frequency 5-40 has anything to do with decision to put it on XEWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA [and non]. 15115-15120-15125, March 19 at 1942, VON is on in DRM, most obvious by the QRDRM it puts on 15125-AM, REE via COSTA RICA, rather than on its proper center frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Meanwhile, despite Scott Clark`s threats, by 1435 UT check March 20, The Rocket is OFF THE AIR!

However, easily on caradio, and with careful positioning of indoor whips, we still hear something on 104.7, ``The new Sunny 104.7`` with rock music. This is the station in nearby Ponca City which The Rocket managed to override around Enid with its alleged 82 watts, KQSN with 25 kW. It has a rudimentary website http://www.sunny1047.com/

FCC shows KQSN`s 60 dBu service contour from a site N of Ponca City reaches only halfway to Enid. The same for KEIF barely covered the city of Enid, not including Vance AFB and Woodring Airport on the outskirts; surely an underestimate.

There is one other Okie on 104.7, KSLE Wewoka with 1.7 kW, per FCC FM Query, which has yet to add a D to the KEIF listing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, March 20 at 0100, with Cuba 5990 barely off in time, there is still far too much noise on the band to copy anything but the R. Chaski carrier with BFO, timing its cutoff now at 0101:12* which is 4.5 sex later than last night (these semi-second readings are just an estimate, i.e. somewhere between 1-second steps on my digital watch, as corrected each time compared to WWV). ** RUSSIA. 5930, March 20 at 1250, folk song in English, announcement in Russia, fair signal from R. Rossii, Pet/Kam. It`s normally // but weaker on Magadan 5940, but there is only a JBA carrier. Does being a bit further north make all the difference? Then check other Magadan channel 7320 and it`s a bit better, // but not synch with 5930. All of the go off at 1300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 6115, March 20 at 1259, VOR IS, then Chinese. Listed 11-14, 250 kW, 152 degrees from Irkutsk. No jamming audible, nor have there been any reports of the ChiCom jamming Russia, why not? For old times` sake.

12075, March 30 at 1331 after `News in Brief`, VOR with `Folk Box`, which I gather is about the Sami in extreme northern European Russia, and their neat music. Fair at best with heavy flutter impeding comprehension. Whenever I hear such a tantalizing signal from VOR, my resentment surges against their abandoning North America.

HFCC shows 12075, 12-15, 500 kW, 155 degrees from Dushanbe, TAJIKISTAN, and in this case is probably not disinformation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 9940, March 20 at 0552, no signal from Miraya FM via BULGARIA (not imaginary ``Simferopol, Ukraine`` as in HFCC) contrary to previous nights, and since nearby Egypt 9905, Greece 9420, and even Turkey 9700 with a more northerly path to here than Sofia are well audible, it`s hard to believe Spaceline Kostinbrod is even on the air. Meanwhile the Sudanese and we can hear the inbooming R. Dabanga via Vatican on 7315 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY [and non]. 17755, March 20 at 1327, VOT IS and English ID, raising hopes that once again the Emirler engineer will forget to change frequency following this German service, and audiblize English on the band it should be using at 1330 --- dashed, as soon cut off the air.

12035, March 20 at 1329, VOT IS is JBA, and there seems to be CCI from something else talking; nothing but timesignal copiable from VOT at 1330.

Yes, HFCC shows the collisions: NHK Bengali via Singapore at 1300-1345 since 15 Jan, and also BBC Bengali via Singapore at 14-15, but only on Sundays and Tuesdays, since 18 November, why? Both these came up after start of B-12 season, ignoring Turkey, presumably no collisions predicted in target areas.

In A-13, as usual VOT goes back to 15450 for English an hour earlier at 1230 on 310 degree beam for Europe, and this will carry on to N America somewhat better than 12035, but they should still be on 16 meters (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 15570, March 19 at 1958, good & steady open carrier, but cuts off around 1959.5. Then on 15580 there is same open carrier mixing with VOA English to Africa; shortly the previous 15580 carrier goes off and modulation starts on the new one.

Here`s what happened: scheduled at 2000 is handover from Botswana to Greenville for one hour only, `African Beat`. GB was warming up 10 kHz away and then jumped to 15580 for a crash-start as BOT dropped-carrier-immediately. Mutual QRM was thus mostly avoided except for a brief overlap. This is not always the case with the far-too-frequent site changes IBB schedules (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15825, March 19 at 1940, WWCR is JBA, while 15610 WEWN is very good along with its spurs. The two are almost the same one-megameter distance in somewhat different direxions. Suspect WWCR-1 is way under-powered below 100 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 15480, Monday March 18 at 2248, JBA carrier from presumed R. Cairo in Spanish. I had just received notice from Dino Bloise that R. Cairo is now carrying his `Frecuencia al Día` DX program Mondays at 2240 on 15480. Full half hour? Surely if it had been propagating, it would have had barely audible or distorted modulation. And not on any other Spanish transmission? I know that English programs of R. Cairo, when they sent out schedules, were not the same on different transmissions even of the same sesquihour length (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUIANA FRENCH. 9490, before and after 0100 UT March 19, NHK in Japanese, instead of Radio República in Spanish, a little mixup at MSY? About equal to the jamming level. ** U S A. 9930 & 5085, Monday March 18 at 2324 check, both WTWW-2 frequencies are off, altho they were on Saturday and Sunday + UT Monday. UNIDENTIFIED. 1490, March 19 at 0132 UT, dutifully trying for the WVBG Vicksburg MS DX test, where the only advantage is the Morse code and anything else that might cut thru the QRM, since as a graveyarder it is on the same power and tower 24 hours. One earphone from the DX-398, the other from the FRG-7 with E-W longwire, producing ``stereo`` QRM effect. Probably better results on the latter.

Right away I can almost imagine I am hearing in the pileup some hi-pitched code, but too slow to recognize as Morse; just as likely could be bits of music highs from who knows what. Also maybe at 0144; gave up at 0147. Meanwhile, thinking of what I would need to recognize as the ID, I realize that in Morse, WVBG is a palindrome! UNIDENTIFIED. 15000-USB, March 18 at 2319 I was checking WWVH for the offset correxion on the porch DX-398 for later frequency measurements, when I was startled to hear override by YL military traffic controller, calling Echo Charlie, could not understand her own ID or location, but said ``on 5 and 8 Megs`` (not exactly!), and also mentioned ``Air Station Elizabeth City`` before wishing a good evening, and out.
