Napoli Radio ?

Guardate che cosa ho trovato nella newslettere dell'IARU Monitoring Service (il servizio che controlla le emissioni non desiderate nella bande dei radioamatori)

1. Napoli Radio on 14000 kHz
We heard an illegal intruder from Italy transmitting music in A3E often during the evening hours, sometimes in the mornings, too. The transmission frequency was rather unstable 13999.600 - 14001.000 kHz. The announcement was "Napoli Radio". Bearings from the German PTT showed the area of Naples. An official complaint was sent to the Italian PTT. Several Italian amateurs and the ARI have been informed.

Glenn Hauser logs July 20-21, 2010

** ANTARCTICA [and non]. Still no trace of even a carrier on 15476 from
LRA36, July 21 at 1237 and 1336. At the earlier hour, something detectable
on 15480, and Turkey was poorly audible on 15450 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. Firedrake July 21:
15545, poor at 1235; a bit earlier I was just hearing a tone/het. The 20
July Aoki shows ``15547*VOICE OF TIBET 1230-1330 1234567 Tibetan 100 131
Dushanbe-Yangiyul TJK 06848E 3829N VOTi a10``
No others found down to 8 MHz by 1300.

CNR1 jamming, in time order, no doubt also against V. of Tibet:

1334 on 15530, CNR1 + motorboating noise. Aoki has VOT in Chinese, not
Tibetan at 1330-1400 via Tajikistan on 15530, but it`s a real jumper

1335 on 15520, Chinese not // 15530, het but no further jamming. I guess
this was V. of Tibet via Tajikistan, momentarily escaping the jamming which
was on 15530, but not for long

1336 on 15430, CNR1 // 15285 mix. VOT in Tibetan via UAE is on 15430 per
Aoki, at 1330-1400. UAE site may not be as adept at jumping around but I
think this one has also done that in past

1338 on 15560, CNR1 + motorboating has jumped here from 15530, but cuts off
at 1340*

*1340 back to 15530 the CNR1 + motorboating but only until 1341:30*

*1342 now on 15570, CNR1 + mb + het. This time it seems to stay put past
1400 when the het is still heard but VOT should be finished (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. RHC, is it SNAFU or FUBAR? SNAFUBAR covers it. 12030 which
supposedly is Spanish-only, after excursions into Portuguese and Arabic at
20-21, July 20 at 2014 check was back to Spanish. And also July 21 at 2035.
But now 12030 is // 11760, which means the latter/lower is in Spanish
instead of English. By 2124, 11760 had resumed is nominal schedule, an hour
of French. And at 2035, only 15370 was in Arabic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 9490-, July 21 at 2300, R. República signing on with program
summary for 21 de julio. Definitely on the low side, tho unseems as much as
80 Hz, where Wolfgang Büschel measured it 23 hours earlier, 9489.92, leading
him to think it might be from somewhere other than Sackville as overtly
scheduled. But the big signal here must be from a major site such as SAC,
well atop the jamming at the outset (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [non]. 15170 via COSTA RICA, REE reconfirmed with Co-Official
Language token newscasts on weekdays, July 21 at 1240 starting Catalan from
Barcelona a bit late, 1246 Gallego, 1253 Castilian in progress subbing for
nominal Basque. These all go lickety-split, with only 5 minutes a day to
convey the major news from their regions. Catalan especially deserves a lot
more airtime than this on the national external service (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12080, VOA English at 1252 July 21, poor. I first reported
this almost two months ago, May 27, but none of the online lists yet show it
at this time to determine the site, just Botswana until 0700, and São Tomé
starting at 1400.

Does VOA at least have the frequency, if not the site, on its schedule for
English by now? O no, the page I have bookmarked for this,
http://www1.voanews.com/english/about/frequenciesAtoZ_e.cfm
now produces a 404, page cannot be found (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15760, July 21 at 1233, poor signal with tone test, I think,
rather than a heterodyne. Nothing definite is known active here, but 15760
was one of the frequencies RNW used from Bonaire for World Cup specials, and
a TDP analog special earlier. And it was used by that strange Sunday
special, ``UK Rock`s The World``, a couple times from the UKOGBANI, both at
somewhat later hours. 15760 is also a wooden registration for SLBC Sri Lanka
Hindi service, should they ever really have one in the local evening. And
Sound of Hope, consequently ChiCom jamming could land anywhere (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Glenn Hauser logs July 19-20, 2010

** ANTARCTICA. 15476, still no trace of a carrier from LRA36, July 20 at 1309 and a couple of later chex (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 12174, July 20 at 0523, David Miranda, the wacky wailing preacher of SRDA, poor signal vs CODAR, unstable carrier with its own rumble, presumably the 11805 R. Globo transmitter totally out of whack. However, inband 25m Brazilians were not audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake July 20, all //:
 8400, JBA at 1258
10500, good at 1336. At this point in every hour there is a relatively quiet, slow melodic passage, with drums beginning to come back at :37
15140, poor at 1255, no others up to 16 MHz before 1300; vs SOH 100 W
15520, fair with het at 1336, very poor at 1355; vs V of Tibet via Tajikistan
15670, poor at 1337, very poor at 1354; vs RFA in Tibetan via UAE
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 12030, July 19 at 2024, RHC in Portuguese an echo apart from // 15370 which is supposed to be the only frequency. Ditto Arabic after 2030. No spurs audible from 12030, but weak.

11760, unlike the day before, on the air in English and with adequate modulation, July 19 at 2032 with report on the Esperanto Congress. At 2105 off the air when supposed to be in French.

11730, not noticed earlier in the hour, but July 19 at 2039, RHC Spanish is about 10 dB stronger than English on 11760 --- but just barely modulated. 11730 is normally a much weaker signal. So they switched around transmitters and/or antennas, but what`s the point without decent modulation?? 11730 still JBM at 2105 in Spanish.

11760 was previously used for English past 0500, but seldom heard lately, or in Spanish. However, July 20 at 0518, there it is, RHC VG in English; 25m is hot tonight. Is this on the schedules at
http://www.radiohc.cu/espanol/c_frecuencia/frecuencias.htm
or http://www.radiohc.cu/ingles/c_frecuencia/frecuencias.htm
? of course not!

At 0529 I check 49m to see what configuration of English and Spanish is in effect tonight. 5970, 6060 and 6150 are in English, Ed plugging ``Real Audio`` even tho it isn`t that format. 6010 is still missing, maybe that transmitter is now on 11760? Or 9525, as at 0531 it`s still running in Spanish with heavy hum // 6120, 6110 and 5040.

6120 and 6110? An echo apart. 6110 is supposed to switch to 6150 at 0500, whatever the language, in order to avoid colliding with NHK via Sackville, English at 0500-0530 only. Wish I had tuned in before 0530 to confirm such a clash.

12030, at 1245 July 20, interview about Esperanto, the subject carefully speaking the artificial language, responding to comments in Spanish. Now 12030 has the 12000 and 12060 spurs with buzz in between, but weakly (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9525.9, VOI with VG signal and modulation this Tuesday July 20, only lite hum and rare audio dropouts, for another Exotic Indonesia joint produxion with RRI Banjarmasin, Kalimantan. Co-hosts two YLs, one in Jak and one in Banj, who chatted for about a minute between pre-produced segments. The one in Banj (I think) has a bit of reverb on her.

1303 news, still alternating items from Jak and Banj. 1310 the non-Mahendra guy from Banj has a talk about public worx in Kalimantan, marred by background speech apparently recorded on location. Next a talk about lowering the cost of the hajj by 26 US dollars.

1319 editorial about Timor Leste, something about seekers. Only at the very end of it did I figure out the word before seekers was asylum, since they were pronouncing it ASS-uh-lum. The main obstacle to readability is now the very heavy accents of most of the announcers, but E for effort anyway in trying to speak English.

1327 Focus about the president holding a meeting with economists on increasing prices of some staples. 1330 the W&W chat about prices going up for cooking oil. 1331 culture show about Banjarmasin incantations. 1344 after another W&W chat, introducing a YL jazz singer from Jakarta, a hit since 1990, who also performs in Japanese, and of course I can`t comprehend her name; music for rest of hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. Missed checking the last week or two, but finally on July 20, REE`s Emisión Sefarad to South America is confirmed on the air.

Tuned in 11795 at 0113 but nothing, so I try 11780, previously announced frequency for this and as usual it is totally blocked by very strong RNA Brasil with loud music. Lucked into pause for announcement at 0114, giving 22:14 timechex, and even then no trace of anything under.

At 0115 back to 11795, and now there is a VG open carrier, even stronger than REE Spanish to SAm on 11680. 0117 finally joins audio in progress, YL opening the show with summary of upcoming topix. Audio is breaking up and with crosstalk from some music (crossmusic?). Address sefarad @ rtve.es Then into first item, interview; 0125 the subject starts singing, but the audio is still crackly, and lots of selective fading distortion.

You have to listen carefully to distinguish Ladino from Castilian, e.g. pronouncing zero with a z like in English. Suspect the guest was really speaking Castilian. 0143:30 into sign-off giving usual schedule, Mon 1425 on 15385, Tue 0115 11795, 0415 9650; fanfare and off at 0145*.

11680 is 250 kW, 230 degrees from Noblejas, while 11795 is 250 kW, 248 degrees. That 18-degree difference seems to make for a noticeably stronger signal here. The 11795 transmission has been missing for months despite weekly announcements including it. Apparently my frequent reports of its absence finally reached the powers that be, to get it going again, otherwise who cares in the middle of the Spanish night? Maybe next week they`ll get started on time and with unmarred modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15825, WWCR missing, not even a carrier, July 19 at 2028 a semi-hour before usual QSY time. Inbooming on 13845, 12160, so I think WWCR-1 was really off the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my previous report of Dan Patrick Show on 1580 under open carrier KOKB, from ESPN, Greg Hardison says that show has switched to Fox Sports, syndication. So back to the 2009 NRC AM Log to see what are the FSN stations on 1580: nothing but KOKB itself but info is at least a year old. If KOKB, it would have had to be just barely modulating instead of overmodulating. But, I may have, should have, checked sister station KOKP 1020 Perry for // and it was not (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Glenn Hauser logs July 17-18, 2010

** CANADA. 15235 and 17735, RCI, Saturday July 17 at 2005, fair signals aimed at Europe and Africa, respectively with ``Masala Canada``, interview about Vision TV. They pat themselves profusely on the back for being oecumenical, but not a word about Atheism. This focuses on their prime audience, south Asians. See

MASALA CANADA: Episode 16 JULY 2010 at 01 H 00 (HE)
(Victor Nerenberg sits-in for Wojtek Gwiazda)

Vision TV is a Toronto-based channel focusing on faith and religion. With its eye on the rapidly expanding South Asian community, Vision TV is stepping-up its efforts to attract its attention. Chief Operating Officer Mark Prasuhn speaks with Victor Nerenberg. . .

** CHINA. Firedrake July 18, all // today when checked:
8400, inaudible at 1215, but very poor at 1217
 9040, fair at 1215 and 1315
10500, good at 1218 // 9040 and 8400; poor at 1312
13100, fair at 1225 and 1311
13970, good at 1222; gone at 1310
14700, unheard at any of these times
15555, poor at 1307
15795, very poor at 1226 mixing with AIR Chinese and/or CNR1 jamming. Still very poor at 1308
15850, poor at 1226. By 1308, 15850 FD had risen to very good. Aoki does not have anything near this frequency, so we can only assume Sound of Hope had jumped here

15285, CNR1 and BBCWS Mandarin via Singapore fighting it out at 1310
15330, motorboating noise at 1309 and CNR1 Chinese vs BBC Uzbek via Thailand (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. RHC anomalies July 18: 9525 still on the air at 0512 in Spanish with repeat of ``Revista de la Noche``. Supposed to finish at 0500; fortunately, nothing else scheduled on 9525 into the madrugada.

That might explain why transmitter for 6010 was missing at 0526, when on 6150 I was astounded to hear an announcement in Esperanto, about the 95a Universala Kongreso de Esperanto, Havano, 17-24 julio. By the time I checked the English // channels 5970 and 6060 at 0527, they and 6150 were back in English.

So was the weekly Esperanto semihour just ending, retimed to 0500 instead of 0700 Sundays? Apparently so, since at 0528 `Ed Newman` made it clear he was *starting* the one-hour English broadcast. Perhaps this week only, there will be more specials or changes in Esperanto from RHC, as this is a Very Big Deal for Cuba.

9490, VOA Korean via THAILAND, July 18 at 1213 marred by pulse jamming, not DPRK-like, but DCJC-like, totally out of the time when ``needed`` against Radio República via Sackville on 9490 at 23-02 weeknights (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also VENEZUELA [non]

** INDONESIA. No signal, not even a carrier from VOI on 9526-, Sunday July 18 at 1212 during Japanese hour, nor after 1300 in English, nor after 1400 when CRI Russian had no het to 9525 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** LIBYA [and non]. 11850, V. of Africa on new frequency, July 17 at 2102 in Arabic seemingly ponderous religious talk, not Qur`an recitation, music bits. ACI in Spanish from WYFR 11855. Good signal but modulation somewhat rough. Looked for VOA // 9880, but not heard; instead, at 2114, RNW`s weekend Arabic-music-fill on 9860 via RWANDA. That could be mistaken for a real Arab station (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. UNIDENTIFIED. Sporadic E briefly exceeded 55 MHz, July 17 at 2123 UT, bits of analog signals on channels 2 and 4 from SE rather than south, so likely Yucatán and/or Quintana Roo as I dare not hope for something beyond without firmer evidence. Not enough audio to be certain it`s Spanish. Channel 2 peak visiblized lower-right temp 33 degrees, and digital clock but could not read it. 6m map showed a contact across the Gulf with a center point just about right for me to get the peninsula from another angle.

A similar opening at 1635 UT July 18, ch 2 from SE, occasional audio fade-ins, Spanish speech with big-hall echo, maybe church service. 1647 singing with guitar, a staple of Catholic masses these days.

Fits XHY-TV Mérida schedule
http://www.sipse.com/television/
with Misa Dominical, and even matches (with delay) live webcast at
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/xhytv-canal2
complete with sign-language interpreter. Over at 1654, to commercials.

Picking up yucatecans directly thru the ionosphere is so much more fun. Hope the opening develops better as I dispatch this report, but just about gone after 1700 UT. This time the DX Sherlock 6m Es map shows a nexus over SE Texas. FWIW, on the XHY webcast I see no temp and time bug, but it could come and go. After 1700 into a movie featuring little people, from the 4TV network, as bugged in UR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. 6250, weak Spanish at 0524 July 18 // 6080, NHK relay via Bonaire, leapfrog over RNW Dutch on 6165. No sign of Equatorial Guinea this early, and very irregular (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Re my report of the KEVT AZ 1210 DX test, apparently the other station was KGYN, not WPHT. I had assumed KGYN would be ``US Country`` like it is in the daytime. Remember, KEVT does it again UT Monday July 19 at 0500-0700 before closing down forever (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Viz.:

Glenn, I think that talk you heard was KGYN as they were decent here in IL and went into talk after 0500 UT news (had been country earlier as usual). WPHT had different talk and was almost completely dominant on truck radio (omni whip antenna) whereas it was nearly completely buried in the back null of the Split Delta Flag antenna. 73 KAZ Barrington IL (Neil Kazaross, mwdx yg via DXLD) For some time, WPHT was carrying the Michael Smerconish show, and refers to themselves as The Big Talker 1210 (Paul B Walker, Jr., ibid.)

** SPAIN [non]. 5970, REE relay via COSTA RICA poor at 1200 July 18, timesignal and ``RNE Noticias`` top story being the German Grand Prix of Cycling. REE is now financially forced to plug into the domestic network for news on weekends instead of producing its own.

15170 via CR, 1230 UT July 18 with automatic half-hour timesignal and announcement clearly as ``14 horas`` rather than 1430 --- what`s with that?? Then ``Amigos de la Onda Corta``, starting with REE wanting reception reports from Puerto Rico, in case there are problems, then plug NASB survey as the two so-called noticias DX; then lengthy feature on R. San Gabriel, Bolivia, in Aymara country.

WTFK? May have mentioned one but did not catch it. WRTH 2010 has a station by that name in La Paz on 6080, but it`s rarely reported, inactive? We see in LA DX ``6079.9v BOL R San Gabriel, La Paz [0858-1040/-0123](9.80-0.47) Mar09 W SS/YY *0851`` which means last reported 16 months ago in DSWCI DX Window. 1245 into mailbag segment (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 15730, once again VOA vs VOA: Saturday July 17 at 2023, open carrier producing fast SAH over VOA French. Carrier is Greenville, which should be warming up on some other frequency to avoid covering VOA São Tomé. The French hour at 2000-2100 on weekends only, makes a totally unnecessary site switch in the middle of it. If in W African target area, GB has a decent signal after 2030 as it is supposed to, then it also QRMs ST before 2030 not only here but there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17510 with open carrier July 18 at 1302 and later chex during that hour, still OC at 1357, but at 1402 a preacher had begun in English. WHRI is registered to start at 1400 on weekends, 1500 on weekdays. Wasted 250 kWh + inefficiency factor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. With Copa Mundial distraxion over, will El Hugazo have resumed his nominal schedule for ``Aló, Presidente`` starting Sundays circa 1530 UT instead of 2230 and thus possiblizing its resumption on SW via CUBA?

Yes! July 18 at 1630 check, VG signals on 13750, 12010, and even 17750, the latter somewhat undermodulated, as he discusses racism. Supposedly on two more frequencies, 13680 and 11690 but both these were open-carrier, like other RHC-only frequencies 11730, 11760 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Glenn Hauser logs July 16-17, 2010

** BRAZIL [and non]. 6185, July 17 at 0040 with music in Spanish from XEPPM, no CCI so I conclude Brasília is still absent from this frequency, unlike 11780, VG with Brazilian music at this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. Just before ReVision Quest, I happened to be listening to CBC News via Regina webcast, July 17 at 1604, when they announced that the wrong ``The House`` was aired on the network today, and people should hear the right episode from web archive! I`ll bet the producers are steamed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake July 17:
7280, fair at 1121, // 8400 but not 9040. Unlike the others, 7280`s victim is also audible, a 300 kW Sound of Hope via Taiwan at 11-13. Otherwise, it`s unusual to hear any FD below 8400
 8400, good at 1118, not // 9040; also after 1205 and at 1237
9040, good at 1118. This one is not // the others. Also after 1205 but gone at 1237
 9380, fair at 1157, // 8400 and 7280, not 9040. Also after 1205 but gone at 1237
10500, good at 1159; also after 1205 but gone at 1237
No others found up to 18 MHz.

CNR1 jamming, besides usual spots 9605, 11785, 11805, 12040, etc., also vs RTI on 11710 [see KOREA NORTH] making SAH of some 10 Hz, and // 15795 an echo apart, July 17 at 1241 vs All India Radio`s Chinese service, which the ChiCom must also block from reaching the People (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 7480-7530, OTH radar pulses, presumed from here, July 17 at 1122. A typhoon just hit Hainan, ``causing heavy damage``, says CBC News, but apparently not windy enough to blow down some antennas from this or the jammers (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [non]. 13650, CRI Portuguese via CUBA, Fri July 16 at 2325 was interviewing a Brazilian SWL, mentioning listening to RDPI, R. Praga and others in Spanish if not Portuguese. Never caught his name, 2330 abruptly into ``Aula de chinês, dia a dia`` language lessons. Usually crummy modulation from relay, pales by comparison to much louder and clearer RNV relay on 13680 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COSTA RICA [and non]. 5954+, very weak carrier from ELCOR is still there, July 17 at 0045, but far too much ACI from 5950 Harold Camping mumbling and non-mumbling 5960 CRI Chinese via Sackville, to make out any audio on 5954. At 0100 with 5960 off, jamming noise now blots 5955, could not detect it earlier, so the DentroCubans apparently think R. República is still being carried on 5954 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. RHC Spanish, July 17 at 0043 check: 5970, 6000, 6060, 6110, 6120. 5040 which should have been in French, was off the air as it has been a lot lately, tho 5025 Rebelde was audible as usual.

Checking for English, at 0101, 6000 and better 5970, the rest in Spanish. One YL introduced Ed Newman and Ann(e) Sullivan as ``news anchors`` starting at 0102.

The RHC schedule at
http://www.radiohc.cu/espanol/c_frecuencia/frecuencias.htm
still does not show anything on 5970 before 0100, just: 01-05 English and 07-11 Spanish, tho it`s consistently in English at 05-07 too. Perhaps that is what should go in the blank space for English to San Francisco at 05-07! This sked has been amended, however, to show 6150 with English instead of Spanish at 05-07, as we have been logging it the past week.

5990, at 0050 and several earlier chex during the hour July 17, nothing but open carrier. Supposed to be CRI relay in Spanish.

9490, at 1158 July 17, whining jamming, presumably leftover against R. República, Sackville, at 23-02 only. Gone after 1200.

11775, PMS Anguilla with pulse jamming, July 17 at 1201, leftover from R. Martí at 23-03 only.

Unlike the morning before, this time 13780 was the missing frequency at 1340, while 13680 was on. By 1432 both were on for ``Cancionero Iberoamericano`` music, but 13680 had a big hum and lower modulation. Leapfrog also on 13880, not audible on 13580 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also CHINA [non], COSTA RICA [and non], VENEZUELA [non]

** JAPAN [and non]. 6120, NHKWNRJ, via Sackville, CANADA, July 17 at 1211 after news starting what is now the Saturday program, ``Radio Japan Focus Weekend Cruise``, but fading into high noise level, both atmospheric and local. // 9695 direct axually better tho aimed 235 degrees into Asia, discussing lyrix of song in translation, such as ``take a photo of your naked body`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH. 19m band not open for much, July 17 at 1241, but VOK music // 11710 on 15180 was strongest signal on band (SSOB), only rivals being WYFR 15130, RDPI 15560. 15180 in clear but 11710 with CCI in Chinese, CNR1 jamming against Taiwan, Commies vs Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. Following our forward to the local newspaper of the July 12 FCC notice about fining KEIF, the story finally made the top of the front page on July 17:
http://enidnews.com/localnews/x2114030259/KEIF-hit-with-FCC-fines
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PHILIPPINES. 9920, July 17 at 1225 with ``Wonderful Words of Life`` hymn rendered in what sounded like Vietnamese, 1230 cut to ``Jesus Saves`` IS, rustic music and sermon. Bothered by bits of grind jamming, perhaps spurious from Cuba 9955 vs WRMI.

Per Aoki, this is FEBC, 100 kW, 280 degrees from Bocaue, in the Tai Dam language at 1215-1230 Thu-Fri-Sat, while on other days it`s in Roglai; and supposed to go off at 1230 except Sun-Wed when continuing until 1300 in Koho. So what was the 1230 language on this Saturday?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17920v, weak spur from KVOH 17775, July 16 at 1856; maybe a trace of match on 17630v, always weaker (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5110-, WBCQ, I think is normally on the air only Saturday and Sunday evenings for Area 51 –-- except the original live airing of Allan Weiner Worldwide, Friday evenings. UT July 17 at 0044 it`s detectable but unreadable, // better 7415. Compared to RHC 6110, WBCQ was slightly low in frequency.

9330-CUSB, with a bit of audio on the LSB too, is already on at 1115 July 17, tho the schedule claims Good Friends Radio Network is 13-04:
http://schedule.wbcq.com/main.php?fn=sked&freq=9330
Mentioned phone numbers including one in Australia, taking prayer requests.

I had not noticed this before, posted a month+ ago on WBCQ site:

``WBCQ Joins the Gulf Rescue Campaign
Posted June 11th, 2010 in Station News

WBCQ is joining the Gulf Rescue Campaign in association with the Sea Shepherd Society to assist in the Gulf disaster rescue operation. We need your support now to outfit our flagship, the M/S Katie, to assist in the Gulf disaster rescue operation.`` So is Katie down there rescuing wildlife by now? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5000, WWV announcement at 0116 July 17, and no doubt 16 minutes past all other hours: Attention: From 18 to 19 UT July 22 [Thursday], WWV and WWVH will be conducting a tsunami warning test (gist). During the entire hour, or only at 1816? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. DX test from KEVT 1210 Sahuarita AZ, which according to Paul Lotsof is about to close down, go out of business so the CE would be running 10 kW non-direxional day pattern UT July 17 at 0500-0700. Paul Walker found out that there would be sweep tones, helpful for DX IDing on the hourtops, July 17 and again on its final final night 48 hours later.

Missed checking at 0500 July 17 as I was still TVDXing Kansas, but tried 1210 from 0511 --- fortunately, no sign of KGYN Guymon OK, which must have axually been on its own night pattern, null-ENE! WPHT Philadelphia was dominant with Midnight Radio Network talk in English, and too close to collinear with AZ to null from here on the DX-398, but tropical music audible underneath it. Equally big problem is WOAI IBOC peaking at 1213, so better tuning down to 1209 kHz. At 0517, overblown Spanish announcement, no ID heard yet, as Philadelphia fades, then norteña music. 0520, got it! KEVT`s ``La Raza`` slogan and ``grupera`` which must be the proper term for its format. 0521 WPHT regains ascendancy with Nationwide ad (Glenn Hauser, of another Raza, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Tropo enhancement from Kansas, UT July 17, first noticed at 0455 with antenna oppositeward toward OKC, nevertheless KSNC RF 22, 2-1 decoding from Great Bend. Not so good for closer Wichita market such as its parent KSNW RF 45, 3-1. RF 12 did display: DTV 33-1 KSCW DT, with nothing but black screen, i.e. transmitted that way as signal level was sufficient to decode if anything were being modulated.

Tropo enhancement from Wichita area holding up past 1500 UT July 17, Saturday. KPTS 8.3 with Create had Rudy Maxa on New Zealand South and North before and after 1500. Bug check: 8.3 Create has constant KPTS logo, PBS logo, atop tiny Hutchinson-Wichita in lower left, an unusual spot --- because the Create spiral logo is constant in lower right.

8.2, however, with Explore has KPTS in LR with almost invisible white Explore above it and even smaller Hutchinson-Wichita below it. Main channel 8.1 also with KPTS bug LR, next to PBS person-profile logo, and
www.kpts.org below it. Losing out, too weak and breaking up by 1530 as Sol burns off some humidity (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. 6060, July 17 at 1133, very poorly modulated signal. RNV relay via CUBA is normally here at 11-12, but it sure doesn`t sound like them, and I am wondering if post-sunrise remnants from Argentina are arriving in its absence. Not even certain it`s Spanish, as talk segments are much weaker than music, sounds like Zamfir`s pan-flute at 1135. 1138 it peaks at S9+10, but talk is just barely modulated; 1139 a bit of Zamfir sufficiently modulated. Meanwhile RHC itself is stronger on 6110-with CCI from CNR1 jamming and VOA Tinian; 6150, 6180 with ACI from NHK 6185. Yes, on 6060 it was RNV, at 1155 its IS and ID JBA, then what sounded like the same IS replayed but slower and at much lower pitch, off at 1156:30*.

Next transmission is 1200 on 11705: checked at 1202, modulation is also bad, but better than 6060. Could be out-of-phase stereo canceling itself out in audio chain. Greeting male-users and female-users on much stronger signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZAMBIA. 4965, non-direxional 100 kW CVC, only extra-continental signal audible on 60m, July 17 at 0115, gospel rock but too much summer QRN level. It was #4 signal compared to WWCR 4840, WWV 5000 and Cuba 5025 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1580, KOKB Blackwell OK cooperated again this Saturday by deleting modulation, but keeping carrier on to muscle aside the local noise level, which was rather severe, so I strain to hear the Spanish station underneath. There it is again, July 17 at 1343; slogans shouted at 1345, but can`t make out any ID. This is on the E-W longwire and FRG-7; then I try in the yard DX-398. Nothing in the NW/SE null of KOKB, and the Spanish seems roughly E-W. It does fade completely out at times, and back in, so it`s likely remnant skywave, 2.5-3 hours after LSR, not groundwave.

One clue made it at 1407 during phone interview, mentioned ``a las 15 de la tarde``, which would more likely be a Mexicanism than an Americanism, such as XEDM Hermosillo, Sonora. Meanwhile I try to find a webstream for comparison, but no more luck than in 2007. Cantú`s audio link leads to a squatter.

Wikipedia says they do run a ``Radioperiódico`` Saturday and Sunday mornings. Still bits of signal when I quit at 1429. If this really is XEDM, of course it should be in Spanish every day, not just Saturday --- altho long ago in the borderblaster era I think it did have some English. When I have checked under KOKB carrier on weekdays I have only heard something in English (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 17895, steady open carrier at 1435 July 17; 1436 a bit of tone test, 1437 off. Probably VOA Greenville-B setting up for 1700-1730 English to Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

All India Radio places global tender notice for DRM digital transmitters

All India radio (AIR), the Indian public service broadcaster, has floated a global tender for acquisition of several DRM digital transmitters moving forth with its digitisation plans. AIR has invited bids for the supply of 34 new MW transmitters, for the upgrade of 36 MW transmitters and purchase of 5 SW transmitters and other associated equipment.  The Research Department of AIR is also going ahead with the purchase of a 500 watt DRM shortwave transmitter for conducting trials on 26 MHz SW DRM transmissions for local coverage. The AIR started off with digitisation of its broadcast services with the DRM standard created by Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium to ensure Digital radio coverage for the entire country, thereby providing better and more robust radio services to the listeners.

Glenn Hauser logs July 15-16, 2010

** ALASKA. 7355, KNLS, July 16 at 1201, Lucy Grant and Rob Scobey opening English hour with summary of magazine items to follow, culminating with Creation Moment, the anti-science feature over all these gospel-huxter stations. And ``music from the 80s, 90s and today``. Initially good reception likely to degrade as the hour wears on, but not for me, their stealth evangelism. Also audible after 1300 in Chinese on 9920 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. OTH radar pulsing, presumed from here, July 16 at 1158 on 7055-7120, with a dip around 7090, yes in the 40m hamband. Intruder watchers, get `em. Then at 1205, also found ranging 6875-6925 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake July 16:
14700, JBA at 1255. No others found 8-18 MHz. However,

15285, at 1256 July 16, open carrier, 1257 B-B-C- chimes IS in the clear, so I stayed tuned to hear the jamming start. At 1259:50 Firedrake cut on briefly over BBC sign-on, but at 1300 switched to CNR1 jamming with Mandarin IDs, way over BBC.

15571, at 1348 July 16 making het with equally weak 15570 signal. Signs of the radio war between the ChiCom and V. of Tibet via TAJIKISTAN, scheduled on 15570 at 1330-1430, per Aoki.

Also could hear a lower-pitched het from 15266 additional ChiCom jamming vs Taiwan 15265 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. R. Cairo continues to exhibit horrible disconnect between program produxion and listener reception. Both studio and transmitter operation are at fault, often combining for impossibly audible and totally wasted broadcasting. Someone please tell Pres. Mubarak that heads need to roll at ERTU. Er, not quite so explicitly.

Altho earlier UT July 15 0318 as in last report, I had found Arabic on 9305 well-modulated, next check at 2340, signal is good, but only bits of audio are making it thru at modulation peaks, totally unusable.

11590, during English to western NAm, at first check 2308 or so was barely modulated; but at 2340 had good modulation during Arabic music. YL announcement which followed at 2349 was just barely modulated, and combined with her accent, made readability=1. Sounded like she was way off-mike in the studio. T-storm in the next county did not help either. 2352 recorded music resumed and once again modulation OK.

UT July 16 at 0011 check, 11590 just concluding lesson 136 of Arabic by Radio. Modulation good both in Arabic and English. Then live(?) continuity announcement in English very undermodulated. And so it goes (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 13715, July 16 had some MOR piano music, off without announcement at 0029*. This is listed as VIRI Chinese service from 2330, 75 degrees from Sirjan, slightly off-target here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA [and non]. 9580, RRI English, good UT Friday July 16 at 0037:30 starting Listeners` Letterbox, replying to reception reports with several breaks for folk music including at 0041, 0045, ``goodbye`` at 0050. Well-done show.

Then I tuned over to SERBIA [non] on 9675, which was starting to play some of their own folk music to conclude English semihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1521 monitoring chex, via webcasts:
WBCQ, 7415, confirmed after 1900 Thursday July 15.
Global Voice Radio,
http://www.theglobalvoice.info/ confirmed after 2130 Thursday.
ACB Radio Mainstream, pre-empted by something else, info for the blind, both after 0100 and 0300 UT Friday. Nothing on website schedule to explain this, where WOR still appears every two hours thru 2330, when I hope some of the repeats will still happen.
http://www.acbradio.org/mainstream
WWRB, 3185, confirmed after 0330 UT Friday July 16.
Next chances on WWCR: Fri 2029 on 15825, Sat 1630 on 12160, Sun 0230 on 4840, Sun 0630 on 3215, Sun 2330 on 9980 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VENEZUELA [non]. 11705, RNV via CUBA, July 16 at 1223 open carrier only --- or rather, turning volume all the way up, I can hear traces of Spanish not // RHC 11760. Still unsounding at 1253 check. Ship a few barrels of oil back to Caracas. Of course, at RNV HQ they don`t even know about any of the morning relays via Cuba which have been in effect for years, at 1000, 1100, 1200 and 1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. After managing to modulate most of the week, KOKB, 1580, Blackwell OK was back to open carrier Friday July 16 at 1307 UT, so I strained to hear the weak stations underneath. All in English, but if KOKB can keep from modulating into Saturday we`ll have another try at the unID Spanish. Today one station is dominating with sports talk, about baseball, basketball, golf, not // ESPN on KCRC 1390. At 1343 another station fades up briefly with YL host, phone number starting with 944-, perhaps a local swap show somewhere (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12015, just as I tuned in, July 16 at 1351, a strong tone test went off. Likely VOA Greenville-B setting up for the 17-19 UT English broadcast to Africa vs perpetual 12015 RTTY (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Glenn Hauser logs July 13-15, 2010

** ARGENTINA. 11710.8, RAE another station with severe modulation problems: July 15 at 0330, S9+20 with flutter, but just barely modulated, presumably scheduled French. Brazilians were in on 25m (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11815, July 15 at 0327 fair signal with Brazilian dialog, from R. Brasil Central. 11765 about same level with SRDA, wacky wailing gospel huxter David Miranda, but with ACI from Cuba 11760. And both totally eclipsed by big signal from RNA 11780. Also traces of Bandeirantes on 11925v, but blasted away by 11935 splash [see NETHERLANDS ANTILLES].

12175, July 15 at 0334, unstable distorted blob with hum vs CODAR, wailer David Miranda preaching again, and with some difficulty decided it`s // 11765 SRDA. But judging from previous Brasilian DX reports, the 12175 signal is a wandering spur from R. Globo, Rio, nominally 11805 as ZYE775, but unheard there, so rather a badly mistuned transmitter.

I have also been wanting to catch RNA 11780 sign-off time, or more likely abrupt cut-off. It was still going at 0335 but gone at next check 0355 July 15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. Sackville appears to be making unexplained transmissions:

6100, UT July 15 at 0308, the RCI IS loop with English and French IDs is running, which should have finished with Spanish and signed off at 0305. (And is it colliding with YFR in English via Guiana French at 02-03 on 6100, as per EiBi?)

9625, July 15 at 0507 tune-in, continuous tone test; that`s right after the sign-off of CBCNQ service, so apparently the carrier stays on with tone, and likely the source of my previous obs of same tone much later, July 6 at 0623, as in DXLD 10-27 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake July 14:
14700, VP at 1235; poor at 1315
15570, poor at 1316 --- against what? V. of Tibet via Tajikistan is here at 1330-1430 per Aoki. No others found 8-18 MHz.

Firedrake bandscan July 15: none at all found 19-8 MHz between 1305 and 1310 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CROATIA [non]. 9925, V. of Croatia, July 15 at 0458 some enjoyable ethnic music, just before 0500 brief announcement in presumed Croatian, unusual timesignal consisting of three beeps spaced more than one second apart, and off the air. After overlapping with Wertachtal, the final two hours 0300-0500 are only via Nauen, east GERMANY site. On Sept 7, scheduled to resume 7375 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6150, RHC one more time in English instead of scheduled Spanish, July 15 at 0527 with music // 6060, 6010, 5970, while 6120 stayed in Spanish.

Crummy propagation on 19m, July 15 at 1302, RHC on 15120, 15360 and 15380 but only poor signals. Nevertheless, 15360 with whine also audible on plus and minus 50 kHz spurs, 15410 stronger than 15310 JBA with same pitch whine.

At 1305 check, 13680 was missing as often happens, while 13780 was good, but consequently no 13880 or 13580 leapfrog spurs possible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9305, R. Cairo Arabic, July 15 at 0318, Qur`an, not too distorted! Good modulation level too. This frequency has been horribly distorted in past and probably future. 9305 is on 12 hours a day, 19-07 UT via Abis, 250 kW, 315 degrees for Europe and North America. 11590, meanwhile, Arabic via Abu Zabaal site, 250 kW, 330 degrees at 2300-0430 was just barely modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ISRAEL [non]. 9955, WRMI relaying WRN relaying Israel Radio, July 15 at 0514 concluding news until next broadcast at ``12:30``, atop bubble and pulse jamming from Cuba, unlike before 0500 when R. Libertad is on. WRN then fills out the semihour with other stuff not on the online schedule, which misleads you to believe that Israel runs for the full 30 minutes:

0515 Pulse of the Planet, from NSF, 3-minute episode on wind turbines in southwest Minnesota; 0518 promo for CRI on WRN; jamming gaining and could not identify another fill feature at 0524.

WRMI has just expanded its WRN relay hours to UT:
Mon-Fri 0500-0830
Mon-Fri 0900-1100
Mon-Fri 1600-2100 [presumably webcast only, not 9955]
Tue-Sat 0200-0400
Sat/Sun 1600-2000 [including WORLD OF RADIO both days at 1730+]

To find out which stations are on at what times, consult
http://www.wrn.org/listeners/#wrn-english-north-america
and be sure you have the timezone cookie-set to UT or whatever you prefer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [non]. 7395, July 15 at 0313, sufficient signal with NHK IS at an unexpected time, cannot be direct. 0315 into Swahili talk interrupted by frequent musical stingers. This is 250 kW, 320 degrees via MADAGASCAR, consequently USward too, 0315-0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also NETHERLANDS ANTILLES

** LIBYA. V. of Africa`s English broadcast at 1400-1600 has moved from 21695 and 17725 to 15240 and 15235, as monitored by Wolfgang Büschel and Ivo Ivanov, and the 19m frequencies ought to propagate better, but inaudible here at 1550 check July 15. The old frequencies were aimed 180 degrees on 17725, 130 on 21695. Ivo says 15235 is the one now at 130 degrees, which ought to be superior here, closer to off-the-back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. 11935, NHKWNRJ in Japanese, July 15 at 0328, huge S9+25 signal and splattering from 11920 to 11950. Hard to believe this is Bonaire aimed 170 degrees away from us toward southern South America, 0200-0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, KFXY back to usual southern gospel music, July 14 at 1241 UT check, after mostly open carrier for two days and substituting // KCRC 1390 sports talk another day (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WEWN back with three transmitters going, July 13 at 2021: 13830 and 12050 Spanish, 15610 plus spurs in English.

July 14 at 1312: 11550 and 12050 Spanish, 13835 English plus mushspurs above and below (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15385, KJES, July 14 at 1904 check, S9+12 carrier but JBA kidmod (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7506.3, July 15 at 0310, has to be WRNO as usual way off-frequency, VG signal not in Arabic, but English, sounds like an old Billy Graham black & white sermon with PA reverb, no doubt from a huge invisible stadium as was his tactic. Cited various Bible verses as if they were gospel (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9680, WYFR in English, July 15 at 0506 VG signal but going into distortion and splattering intermittently (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 6940, mix of two audios, one with commercial in English, July 15 at 0525. As previously computed, this fits for leapfrog of WWCR 4840 over WWCR 5890, another 1050 kHz higher. Both of those were very strong, and 6940 could be heard at normal and attenuated positions, but not at local on the FRG-7, so in this case it may have been receiver-produced due to overload (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Pastor Pete Peters audio is awful, always with a rippling or warbling hum, as heard both via WWCR and WTWW, e.g. 1330 July 15 on 9980 and 9479. I guess some AC is getting into his feed. Fortunately, this helps to discourage people from listening to his racist nonsense despite the extremely strong signals from both (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN [and non]. 11625, VR, Thursday July 15 at 0331, African language, good S9+25 signal. Checked again at 0400, and another Afrolang, mentioning ``meter band`` and ``megahertz`` several times.

At 0331 did not sound like listed Swahili, but rather tonal. Maybe it`s the speaker`s own peculiar accent. Per VR A-10 schedule folder, it`s Swahili direct at 0330-0400, except Sundays inserting Somali at 0345.

The papists pull a fast one at 0400, switching site to MADAGASCAR, for Amharic/Tigrinya until 0430, but totally unclear how the time is divided between them, half-and-half? Or depending on day of week, or mixed in together? After French at 0430, back to SMG for English at 0500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. This summer`s sporadic-E VHF DX season has gone from almost daily openings, to less frequently as in mid-July we pass the peak --- but there should be some more, if we can catch them, thru mid-August.

No tipoff from WWCR 15825, JBA, but July 15 at 1337, 1356 I am getting occasional signs of skip on channel 2 in Spanish, maybe from Mexico, altho 6m Es map shows contacts between SE US as far as Oklahoma, and Cuba/Jamaica/Turks & Caicos. At 1535 what little I am getting on ch A2 seems from S rather than SE (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###

Preliminary Report of Grimeton Radio/SAQ transmission July 4 2010

According to received reports this transmission was one of the best ever, so far. Three reports with good readability came from the USA. New countries were Belarus and Hungary. Germany had, as usually, one third of the reports. The Final Summary Report will be showed on our website: www.alexander.n.se later on. (Lars Kalland SM6NM)

WEEK 497 from 2010 Jul 05

SOLAR ACTIVITY
--------------

Several sunspot groups were visible on the Sun during the week. Catania sunspot groups 93 (NOAA AR 1084) and 95 (1086) were observed on July 5-8, and Catania sunspot group 96 (no NOAA number) was observed on July 9. These three groups were small and did not produce any significant flaring activity.

On July 8 a returning active region behind the east limb (NOAA AR 1082 during the previous rotation) produced several B-class flares. On July 9 it appeared on the solar disk and got the Catania number 97. On July 10, Catania observatory reported another sunspot group on the east limb (number 98), situated close to the group 97. These two groups were attributed a single NOAA AR number (1087). This complex active region produced numerous B-class flares and three C-class flares (C1.2 peaking at 22:16 UT on July 8, C1.8 peaking at 09:01 UT on July 9 and C3.4 peaking at 19:51 UT on July 9). Due to the active region position close to the east limb, neither of these flares was accompanied by an Earth-directed CME.

GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY
--------------------

During the whole week the Earth was inside a slow solar wind flow with weak to average interplanetary magnetic field magnitude. Geomagnetic conditions were quiet.

Glenn Hauser logs July 12-13, 2010

** CHINA. Firedrake July 13:
8400, just barely audible at 1254
14700, JBA at 1258
No others heard 8-18 MHz by 1300
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. RHC anomaly check July 13: at 0556, once again in English service instead of Spanish on 6150, // 6060,, 6010, 5970. At the moment it was music, but these were all //, while Spanish talk was on 6120 // 5040 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 15595, clip of Fidel Castro, who recently came out of the woodwork (or the coffin?), on of all places, VOA Spanish, July 13 at 1233. I would love to have heard DentroCuban jamming atop Fidel, as it does jam VOA, but too strong here. Quickly switched to 9885 and could hear some jamming under, but nowhere near as loud as vs Martí on 9805. Other VOA // is 13715 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 6250, weak Spanish at 0555 July 13, poor in noise level. Presumably the quite irregular RNGE, as the Bonaire mixing product quits 6250 at 0527 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9525.9, VOI resumed modulating during English hour July 13 at 1305 check, after nothing but carrier and hum on July 12 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** LIBYA. The // unIDs in Arabic of yesterday are on again today July 13 from before 0500 UT on 9880 and somewhat weaker 9870, or at least more local interference on the lower.

0457, reverent-sounding talk, but not Qur`an recitation.
0458, music bit, talk with enhanced reverb, mentioning Allah
0459, oud strumming past 0500, no timesignal
0500+, no ID detectable, but resumes talking, mentions sharia
0503, traditional vocal music

I hope Arabic speakers will identify this. Probably on at least until 0600; was past 0530 yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, circa 0515 UT July 13, dxldyg and HCDX via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Next check was at 0545, when M Arabic talk was underway. This time I can hear CCI on 9880 from VOA in French, causing a rippling subaudible heterodyne, so the two are a dekahertz or two apart. 9870 had hashy QRM from the hi side unlike 24 hours earlier, but may have been locally generated.

At *0558, 9880 overridden by VOA Greenville open carrier, about to take over VOA French from South Africa. So I now listen only to 9870:

0559, Big-Ben clone chimes for hourtop but no timesignal; fade during ID but giveaway ``jamahiriyah`` heard, so these are Libya! Continued in Arabic now with reverb added; 0602 brief march/fanfare and switch to YL in Arabic, perhaps news.

My inquiries led to further confirmation, as part of V. of Africa`s frequency shifts involving many other broadcasts, e.g. 17735 ex-17725 for Swahili until 1400 as I previously logged.

``From DX Mix Bulgaria, Ivo writes (via Wolfgang Büschel):
v0500-0700v on 9870 // 9880 kHz. Good reception here in BUL on both freqs. Co-ch on 9880 kHz from 0600-0630 [sic] UT Voice of America in French According to monitoring, which took place at the time it is 100% Libya "Idhaat Jamahiriya al Ovma" or "The Great Jamahiriya". Other frequency changes will check this afternoon and tonight.
0500 [sic]-0657 on  9870 //  9880
0700-0857 on 11630 // 11650``
Wolfy also notes that the English broadcast at 14-16 is not only on 15240 but adjacent 15235. I haven`t had a chance to log that one yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, KFXY Enid, continued mostly open carrier, July 12 at UT chex: 2103; 2126 southern gospel music cut on for 5 seconds; 2129:30 for 10 sex; 2135 fragment of an ad for 10 sex.

UT July 13 still not fixed; OCs noted at 0035, 0455.

Finally at 1230 it`s modulating, but instead of SG music, it`s sports talk, // KCRC 1390, apparently the only substitute programming they could come up with, and synchronized. 1255 ESPN promo and ID only for ``13-90 KCRC``. 1259 again on 1640, ID only for KCRC, then ``Huckaby Report`` including ad in his own voice pushing gold, to 1304.

At strange time of 1305:30, started ABC News, still // 1390; 1309:30 joined ESPN sports talk in progress, but shortly superimposed (finally!) a legal ID for ``KFXY, Enid-Oklahoma City, The New Faith 16-40`` as sports talk continued! What a mess. Not so strange: sports is a religion around here closely allied with Christianity (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12050, one WEWN frequency missing again July 13 at 1304, still in Spanish on 11550, English on 13835. At 1837 check, 12050 is back on in Spanish but a different frequency is missing, 13830, while 15610 English is on as normal. Then at 1838 I notice a weak carrier cutting on and off 13830, amid DentroCuban jamming bleed from 13820 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 11625, July 13 at 0550, Brazilian more than Luso Portuguese, but with Italian accent, from VR, scheduled 0530-0600 to W Africa; fair (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###
