Voice of Jinling (ex 5860 kHz)

Io l'avevo detto.

12 ottobre 2013
YG bclnews - Messaggio n. 21366
YG playdx2003 - Messaggio n. 29861

(LBF)

Glenn Hauser logs August 19, 2014

** BRAZIL. 5990, Aug 19 at 0126, RNA is on tonight // 6180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11815, Aug 19 at 0117, R. Brasil Central continues to be absent; surely would be audible if on, like 11855v Aparecida. Last reports I`ve seen of 11815 were on July 31 and Aug 3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6060 & 5040, Aug 19 at 0106, RHC is in proper language Spanish unlike last night in English. Also on 6070, which is again only a reverb apart from the others instead of a second apart.

6000, Aug 19 at 0600, RHC English is missing, but at 0605 recheck, HM01 is here! The Spanish spy numbers hybridly mixed with digital bursts, as the RHC/DGI transmitter site has its wires crossed worse than usual. By 0609 recheck it`s been fixed, resuming RHC in English. I wonder if a transmitter switch normally occurs at 0600 on 6000 amid the 6-hour English service (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Aug 19 at 0106 check, still no signal from HCJB. No replies from anyone whether or not it`s being heard before sunrise from *0825. High time to search the HCJB website for any info about SW being off --- of course, domestically they have AM & FM, so who cares about SW anyway? You`d never know it existed from website. I do find one news story about emergency response to the Aug 12 Quitoquake, but nothing about radio or HCJB:
http://radiohcjb.org/quito-se-activo-comite-de-operacion-de-emergencia/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 12070, 11710, 9965, 9315, Aug 19 at 0107 check, again tonight all R. Cairo frequencies are off the air. Would others please check at other dayparts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935 // 9420, both good Aug 19 at 0107, ERTOpen is on tonite with Greek music, and apparently 15630 JBA.

BTW, Marty Delfín in Madrid heard 9935 with a mixture of Greek and SPANISH:

``ERT (or what's left of it) in SPANISH and Greek! at 9935.3 kHz August 16 at 2253 UT with announcer in Spanish dedicating Latin ballads by Paulina Rubio, Luis Fonsi, etc., to listeners in Spain. I was surprised to hear Spanish and Latin American music on this frequency at this time but realized that the announcer was actually Greek but very fluent en español. He easily interchanged Spanish with Greek throughout the transmission, much like what the announcers do with English/Chinese on CRI. Signal was fair; it seems they lost some of their transmitter power. Full sheep bell/flute ID at 2300 in Greek. 73s Marty Delfín (Madrid, Spain), DX LISTENING DIGEST`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 12025, Aug 19 at 0113, no signal from VRII, Spanish audible on 9860 and unknown if on 11760, blocked by RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALI. 5995.0, Aug 19 at 0601, with RHC unexpectedly off 6000, I can check whether the very weak and JBM carrier here, presumably Mali, is off-frequency to hi side like the carrier I have been receiving 5 hours earlier --- no, unseems to be, but there is a SAH from a second station. Only Mali is known to be on 5995 at this hour. Possibly the other one is some mixing product (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Aug 19 at 0607 UT, KXTD 5 kW ``daytimer`` COL Wagoner is still running all-night with Mexican music, non-ID as ``impactando --- La Qué Buena, 15-30 de AM, Qué Buena!!!!!!``. Altho I habitually check it at least at bedtime, I`m sure it`s just the same from August sunset onward, 0115-1145 UT sunrise; September (if not fixed by then!) 0030-1200 UT. This thing totally blox my access to the other recent all-night 1530 cheaters, KLBW New Boston TX, and KCMN Colorado Springs CO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 9500, Aug 19 at 0114, RSO on proper frequency tonight, Qur`aning (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Aug 19 at 0106, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, in heavy noise (we are between storms at the moment), until cutoff at 0108:28.5*, which is 11 seconds later than one binite ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

My previous report had the wrong date on it, Aug 16 instead of 17, here corrected:

** PERU. 5980, Aug 17 at 0104, R. Chaski carrier until 0108:17.5* which is another 6 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, Aug 19 at 0114:46, musical prélude starts on SLBC carrier which came on earlier in this minute, and mistimesignal ends at 0115:18.5, sign-on; fair signal this time. Jose Jacob says this service now closes at 0230 instead of 0330 (every day?) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 1518 UT August 19

Glenn Hauser logs August 18, 2014

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. Now that ABC has fired Radio Australia staff, about all we`ll hear are domestic service relays, which fortunately remain better programming than on most SW services. Expect a revamped program schedule, but as of 1610 UT August 18, it`s not up yet athttp://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/programschedule?tz=0&stream=asia
just this: ``We are in the process of updating our radio schedule. We're introducing some new shows and some existing ones have moved to new time slots. Please stay tuned, we'll be publishing the full new schedule soon.``

Obvious change so far is that the TV news simulcast at 1230-1330 is gone; instead, Monday August 18 at 1323 on 6150, 9475, 9580, 12065, 12085, I am hearing some great heavy `cello playing past 1335. Tuning back and forth, I miss an eventual announcement about who it was, but 1348 on to Nina Simone singing Oscar Brown`s ``Brown Baby``, followed by some cora-playing by the same earlier `cellist until 1400 ABC logo and news, which includes a visual reference by field reporter ``behind me``, so this originates on TV now? By 1409 back to more music.

In the meantime, by 1626 UT recheck Aug 18, the new schedule has appeared at above link --- No, it hasn`t! The old defunct schedule has reappeared, showing Monday 1230 ``The World from Australia Network, In this special edition, Jim Middleton and Bev O'Connor will bring you coverage of the Indonesian Elections; 1330 Rear Vision, 1400 Late Night Live`` WRONG! And many other programs we know are now defunct. Come on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 6180, Aug 18 at 0539, VG signal from RNA, but music is very distorted, and the same on // 11780. Fortunately, no spurs from either, and cleared up during talk at 0602, so this was an input rather than output problem. Continue to be amazed that Brazil`s prime voice to the world is allowed to be so SNAFU`d (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 11500, Aug 18 at 1344, CNR1 jammer, good signal and not synch with 11785; no other OOBs found 10-19 MHz. Aoki shows 11500 target is 0.1 kW Sound of Hope any time between 21 and 15 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6060, Aug 18 at 0132, RHC is in wrong language, English instead of Spanish, // 6000 and 6165 during mailbag, --- and so is 5040. Once again, program feed routings are all mixed up. 0202 recheck, 5040 and 6060 are still in English; so also rest of evening until 0500 when they are really supposed to be?

6070 & 9810, Aug 18 at 0133, these RHC Spanish frequencies are still synchronized, but now only a reverb apart from the others, 11670, 11760, 11840, 13740, 15230; rather than a second apart as 24 hours earlier.

6000, Aug 18 at 0604, RHC English transmitter now suffers from squeals audible center-frequency, more so on the sides (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Aug 18 circa 0135, still no signal from HCJB. Here`s a BBC story from Aug 13 about the 5.1 quake hitting Quito and area, but fails a prime journalistic directive, WHEN?
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-28767140
A Guardian story also fails the WHEN test, but BBC linx to USGS which says: ``M5.1 - 23km SW of Cayambe, Ecuador 2014-08-12 19:57:58 UTC``. Neither story says anything about HCJB, which evidently has not been heard since then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9315, 9965, 11710, 12070, Aug 18 at 0146, ALL four defective R. Cairo Spanish and Arabic frequencies are off the air. Per Aoki, 9315 & 9965 are Abu Zaabal site, while 11710 & 12070 are Abis. Also off is 13850, Abis, Aug 18 at 0544. This is progress (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935 & 9420, Aug 18 at 0146, it`s another off-night for ERTOpen (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 11760, Aug 18 at 0142, can detect VRII under RHC, and // very poor 9860, but nothing heard on 12025, which must be off since if on would surely propagate if 11760 does (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 960, Aug 18 at 0501 UT, another Fox-hole, five minutes of dead air on local KGWA instead of Fox ``news``. I still check this periodically altho not every night, and sometimes there is no hole. With open carrier nulled, I now hear choral Mexican NA, 0503 XEK ID from Nuevo Laredo, still proudly asserting its birth in 1937y. A night or two ago the NA did not start until 0504.

As for KGWA, with it totally non-nulled, I can still barely detect audio // from sibling country music 103.1 KOFM bleeding thru. I expect it`s there all the time, but normally blown away by KGWA`s own mostly-talk modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Aug 18 at 0204 UT, Mexican music dominates frequency, 0205 UT ``Durante el verano, nadie toca más música que La Qué Buena, 15-30 AM, AM, AM`` canned ID. 0504 UT recheck still on and dominant, 5 kW daytimer KXTD still cheating. Another check at 0552 UT, still dominant, no BS audible from WCKY! Canned ID now for La Qué Buena (¿why don`t they misspell it Ke?) sure sounds like ``Mil sesenta de AM``, i.e. 1060, but that doesn`t make sense unless they are using some other station`s ID package. No LQB`s listed on 1060 in last year`s NRC AM Log (nor 1070 which sounds almost identical in Spanish). Closest Tulsan is on 1050, not SS.

KXTD direxional-daytime pattern is figure-8, NW/SE, or rather major lobes centred on 140/325 degrees, reduced signal toward Enid but not in a null, so that may be out of whack too. Deep null toward WCKY, of course.
http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/109024-22861.pdf
Not sure where the site is, no map link at FCC AM Query, but COL Wagoner is about 30-35 miles ESE of Tulsa. This http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KXTD&service=AM&status=L&hours=D
shows site close to Wagoner, a little toward Tulsa. As for night operation, maybe after the weekend, someone will fix it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Aug 18 at 0204 UT, dead air, but only briefly until ``KZLS, Enid-Oklahoma City, The Eagle`` ID. I`m amazed that references of X-band stations continue to ignore the fact, as I have reported repeatedly and now reassert, that while main format is talk, KZLS *still* has some hours of country music simulcast with KNAH 99.7, IDs as ``Hank FM``. So am I wasting my time reporting such details when no one pays attention to them? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also MEXICO [and non]: 960

** OMAN [and non]. 15355, Aug 18 at 0144, Arabic talk and music, good with flutter, RSO instead of AWOL 9500. 15355 supposed to be on at 22-24 only, and gone after 0200, so then checked 13600 which I thought was scheduled next, but something else --- probably Tamil via CRI Kashgar as in Aoki, which also shows the 02-04 frequency for RSO is 9540, including English at 03-04. I`ve never heard it there, nor has anyone? Would be tough to get past 9535 Spain here.

HFCC is full of wooden registrations for the THUmrait site, including another at 02-04, 9730, and even 15355. There are also several for the SEB site in Oman, Seeb, which I assume are totally imaginary. WRTH says there is one 100 kW at each place (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST)

** U S A. 13563.85 approx., Aug 18 at 0152, hifer beacon sending ``GNK`` slowly eight times per minute. On DX-398 with 1 kHz steps, first noted tuned to 13565-LSB, then measured as best I can with 40-Hz steps. Weak but sufficient on CW except for occasional fades to nothing.

It appears to be common practice for callsigns of these Part 15s to be derived from a licensed ham call. Harold Frodge also reported this one, ``13561.6 GNK Hifer Beacon via KC9GNK Madison WI; 0405, 31-July; 1417 moved up to 13562.8 (Frodge-MI)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: confirmed on Area 51 webcast and via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB, UT Monday August 18 after 0300. Lots of noise on lower bands, from storms over central Nebraska into northern Kansas. Next:
Tuesday 1100 on WRMI 9955 vs RFI Chinese via Taiwan
Wednesday 0630 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 1315 on WRMI 9955 after the QRM is off
Wednesday 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 2100 on WBCQ 7490v
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9975, UT Monday Aug 18 at 0144, KVOH is on amid AWR Wavescan, tho with hum and undermodulation, unlike 24 hours earlier when WORLD OF RADIO was scheduled --- as the first program of each week on 9975, we are more vulnerable to unexpected transmitter failures (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7555, Aug 18 circa 0148, KJES remains AWOL from its 0100-0230 transmission, but the morning broadcast on 11715 continues, Aug 18 at 1342, so strong that it`s overloading FRG-7 receiver and mixing with 11860 Habana to audiblize both another 145 kHz lower on 11570 unless attenuated (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs August 16-17, 2014

** CHINA. 11785 & 11805, Aug 16 circa 1310, CNR1 jammers noted with a clip of the Olympix announcer in English. Not sure of time as I didn`t log it, but notable as per later report from Ron Howard that from 1220 to 1303 on 6125, CNR1 was doing ``special live coverage of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony; presented in French, English and Chinese; occasional announcer with live coverage in background, but mostly live coverage; many speeches`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 21690, Aug 17 at 0526, VP, sounds like Firedrake, drumming, i.e. jamming RFA Chinese via TINIAN, which also is in the mix. Anyhow, pleased to be getting any signal on 13m at this hour.

16100, Aug 17 at 1344, CNR1 jammer, very poor with flutter; no other OOBs audible 12-19 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6070 & 9810, Aug 17 at 0119-0121, I notice that these two RHC Spanish frequencies are running at least a full second behind all the others, i.e. a few words: 5040, 6060, 11670, 11760, 11840, 13740, 15230. The two transmitter sites are normally only a reverb/echo apart, from different feed routes, not so much as this; what has happened?

15370, Aug 17 at 1354, bigsig from RHC sounds OK on AM, but with BFO I notice that the carrier is slightly unstable, rippling (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Aug 17 at 0118, again no signal from HCJB. We last logged it August 11, and on August 13 at 0430, Luca Botto Fiora in Italy also noted in missing (normally until 0503*), and he alludes to an earthquake. Any further info on such a disaster affecting HCJB? Is anyone hearing it either in the mornings from *0830? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 11710, Aug 17 at 0111, R. Cairo Spanish service is still ASP (ausente sin permiso = AWOL) from this frequency, while 9315 has good signal but open carrier/dead air. At least there`s 12070, at 0114 very distorted and suppressed modulation. 9965, the Arabic frequency is also very distorted at 0109. 13850, Aug 17 at 0519 has big hum with extremely distorted Arabic (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935, UT Sunday Aug 17 at 0107 check, ERTOpen is off again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [and non]. 11730, Aug 16 at 1313, weak signal in presumed Pashto as scheduled from VIRI via Sirjan, now clear from QRMI moved to 11580; but overshadowed by 11735 North Korea in English.

12025, Aug 17 at 0114, VRII Spanish is gone again from its third frequency, still audible on 9860 and can`t tell if it`s still under 11760 Cuba at 0115.

13590, Aug 17 at 0521, VIRI IS, poor on tail of semi-hour Russian service at 0450, 500 kW, 325 degrees also USward from Kamalabad.

15430, Aug 17 at 0521, VRII IS, fair, 0523 sign-on in Spanish, 289 degrees from Kamalabad for Europe and North Africa. This beam is on Gibraltar, so a compromise between the two continents; is there still a significant Spanish-speaking SW audience in Morocco? Kamalabad is the site right outside Tehran.

17660, Aug 17 at 0523, Iran IS, NA, poor signal, not Spanish, into Qur`an; it`s the `Bosnian` service, 297 from Kamalabad (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** JAPAN [non]. 11730, Aug 16 at 0544, NHK French via FRANCE to Africa with novelty song, no CCI, now that WRMI has moved its 24-hour BS to 11580. It so happens that WRMI was aiming right at France, and may have got in around the skip zone from Issoudun, but never a good idea to try that tactic. Anyhow, Jeff White says the target of 11730/11580 is eastern North America altho using the 44 degree beam toward Europe, which is about 25 degrees off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 15575, Sat Aug 16 at 1353:41-1356:41, KBS World Radio gives Kevin O`Donovan in Farmington NM exactly 3 minutes for his Listening Tips, but poor copy as this frequency is in its seasonal decline to nothing by winter. Mentions something about Voice of Vietnam, and the jazz, swing shows from KVOH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 6185-, Aug 16 at 0552, wild jazz as XEPPM is still on way beyond its nominal 0500*. Aug 17, already off at 0535 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 9600-, Aug 17 at 0531, Station YHWH is back! First time heard since July 19-20; fair signal, and slightly on the lo side. Usual stuff selectively quoting Bible to make case for Yahweh as supreme god. At 0543, interrupts recording(?) for live announcement twice, ``please go to 9605``, and then shifts to that from later in the *0543 minute, resuming rant in progress. I am dozing, but still going at 0609 when I turn off. Not clear why the shift was necessary, as no QRM on 9600, altho XJBS Urumqi is listed before and after; maybe anticipating the imaginary 9600 Algerian in HFCC from 0600. Terry Krueger, FL, was also hearing 9600 as early as 0520 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Aug 16 at 0602 UT, instead of CO or TX cheaters instead of WCKY, dominating is Mexican music and ``Quebuenatulsa.com`` ID. That website however leads to 1270! Whatever the identity mixup, the 1530 facility, FCC #61985, is licensed as 5 kW direxional DAYTIME ONLY as KXTD in Wagoner.

Apologists for daytimers running at night have explained that it`s easy for the automation to fail to turn off the signal at sundown, following a power failure, glitch, not properly reset --- well, tough, there is still supposed to be somehuman in charge of the whole thing to take care of that! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Aug 16 at 0104, R. Chaski carrier until 0108:17.5* which is another 6 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH AFRICA. 15420, Aug 17 at 1353, open carrier interrupted by BBC loop announcements that there is ``no programmming`` and referring us to BBCWorldService.com  How courteous of them to inform us of this! But it could also apply to countless other frequencies. SENTECH has brought this up prior to the 1400 Somali service; see also USA: WBCQ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 17850 fair, and // much weaker 17715, Sat Aug 16 at 2021, REE with item about live coverage of some earthquake; 2025 program ID as `Amigos de la Onda Corta`. This airing was not originally on the schedule; I heard it a couple times during El Mundial, and assumed it was filler because REE could not broadcast the only fútbol games that mattered in what was normally `Tablero Deportivo` on Saturday evenings --- but here AOC is still on during this hour. I wonder if it will be canceled along with most/all other REE-produced programs, in favor of just relaying domestic services if onda corta survives at all from Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, Aug 17 at 0114:47 musical prélude starts on SLBC, poor with flutter, and mistimesignal until 0115:18 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: confirmed on new frequency and time from WRMI, UT Sunday Aug 17 after 0100 on 5950, and yes, it`s the latest 1734, not a 1733 replay; fair signal but sufficient, altho het on hi side from R. Pio Doce, Bolivia on 5952.4. (Marcos Cox in Chile complains that WRMI QRMs it, and WRMI should move: we see that 5945 is unoccupied during the 23-02 span WRMI is now on 5950.)

9975, Aug 17 at 0122, only a JBA signal from Tashkent until *0123:07 KVOH carrier on with tone; 0125:37 musical prélude, but cuts off the air one minute later, and not back by 0200, so the 0131 UT Sunday airing of WORLD OF RADIO is missed again. We regret their transmitter problems and hope they can get a new one soon! Next:

UT Monday 0259v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB
Tuesday 1100 & Wednesday 1315 on WRMI 9955
Wednesday 0630 & 1430 on HLR 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 2100 on WBCQ 7490v
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 11580, Aug 16 at 1314, WRMI`s new BS frequency aimed northeast, ex-11730, now has CCI in Vietnamese, i.e. KTWR GUAM, and at 1413 in Korean, also KTWR after 1345. But that`s cool: there are countless other BS frequencies from WRMI and several other stations; and unlikely to be much of a problem for KTWR in Asia. The overlap is 12-15 UT, except Sat/Sun only until 1445, per Aoki. Ivo Ivanov says the scheduled All India Radio broadcast at 1745-2030 on 11580 is off, so that helps (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non}. 15420.0-CUSB, Aug 16 at 1357, WBCQ ID and IS loop as happens at this hour only on Saturdays prior to the live tabernacle service from Brother Scare. I am pleased to find that WBCQ has adjusted one of its wandering transmitters to be almost zero-beat with BBC, within SAH rather than LAH range. But dumps off the air at 1401 just as BS is getting started, and still off at 1411 leaving only BBC Somali via SOUTH AFRICA. Not rechecked until 2018, and now WBCQ is on with the androgynous anapest (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, Sat Aug 16 at 2016, I notice that Bibling Worldwide on WTWW-3 has again been shoved aside, now for `QSO with Ted Randall`, evidently because the usual frequency for it, 9475 WTWW-1, is off the air; but QSO was supposedly on at 18-20 UT only. At 2102 recheck, dead air on 12105, but 2104 Ted ID and presumably back to Bibling. And now 9475 is back on the air with SFAW.

5085, UT Sun Aug 17 at 0107, WTWW-2 playing `Rose Garden` so evidently Ted is doing his country music show normally on UT Mondays, tonight instead of QSO. More ad-hoc, seat-of-pants last-minute programming changes at WTWW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. RF 22, Aug 17 at 1410 UT, morning tropo from Kansas is up with the usual Wichitans, and as far as Great Bend, KSNC ``2``. Now I can tell that it provides no 2.2 with Telemund[o] like its parent station RF 45, KSNW, 3.2, now does (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 12005, Aug 17 at 0113, VOV in English, VG signal but with ``generator hum/roar``, which is normally associated with ASCENSION rather than Woofferton; have they switched sites, or is WOF also capable of this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5995+, Aug 17 at 0104, JBA carrier slightly on the hi side, Mali still on? With BFO and 5-kHz steps on the DX-398, I can tell that this is further above 5995 than Chaski is above 5980, which is also slightly on the hi side compared to e.g. 6000 Cuba. Still too much RHC around 0600, so could those further east confirm whether Mali leaves its carrier on overnight and/or its exact frequency at other times (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs August 15-16, 2014

** BRAZIL. 5990, Aug 16 at 0106, RNA is gone again from its extra frequency, still on 6180 and 11780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, Aug 16 at 0144, no carrier from the one and only HCJB, so is it off? Usually a bit of it; Bolivia audible on 5952.4, 6135v (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. So what`s going on at Abis and Abu Zaabal tonight?

9315, Aug 16 at 0117, R. Cairo Spanish has loud and distorted music with big hum and crackle, but no spurs. This is more typical of the way 12070 usually sounds

9965, Aug 16 at 0121, R. Cairo, Arabic song extremely distorted and suppressed modulation

12070, Aug 16 at 0122, R. Cairo Spanish, clean open carrier --- but faked out again, just a pause before distorted music and opening `La Revista Turística`, // 9315. More or less readable if you can stand it

11710, Aug 16 at 0122, third Spanish frequency is still off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935, Aug 16 at 0109, ERTOpen is on again, with Greek music, no modulation problem and only slightly weaker than // 9420; and / 15630 is JBA, improving later but modulation seems low (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 9860, Aug 16 at 0120, VRII, Spanish, fair with flutter, but way undermodulated compared to // 12025 which is much weaker signal. Too much Cuba on 11760 to detect whether Iran is still there too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, Aug 16 at 0135, good signal with pirate music; was not on during previous half hour chex. Lyric seems to be ``Diesel ---something---, truck-driving, asshole cowboy``. An original? Lotsa songs on Diesel fumes, not including such a title, at
http://www.virtualtruckroute.com/music_songs.html
0136 audio cuts out; wiggle that patchcord. Smax of Whisky Redneck Radio, and confirmed by 0140 announcement, ``This is WRR, Whiskey Redneck Radio --- speaking truth and justice from the temple of the screamin` electron``. ``Our roads are on lockdown``, F- and S- words. Implies he`s in the ``Deep South, good country, but a bunch of people have ruined it``; to exceed the speed limit, need to go 5000 miles further south for something close to freedom (Patagonia??). At 0143, ``gone, gone, gone`` which I was expecting to be title of next song, but he meant ``off, off, off`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Aug 16 at 0107-0108:11.5*, R. Chaski carrier cutting off six seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** QATAR [non]. 7300, Aug 16 at 0133, no signal from Al Jazeera, Arabic TV news network audio, unlike 24 hours ago. Ivo Ivanov was not hearing any of the other 7 or 15 MHz frequencies Aug 15, so apparently only a one-off test on Aug 14, presumably via Kostinbrod, Bulgaria (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5050, Aug 16 at 0114, Brother Scare via WWRB as I tune across is on his ego-trip about MW outlets: thinx WCKY Cincinnati is on 1520; and that the Dallas station carrying him overnight is 50 kW! Nope, only in the daytime, KBXD 1480, and only if their CP is on while FCC still shows licensed for 5 kW day, 1.9 kW night, before and after. Typical; can`t even get the facts straight about his own outlets, yet he fancies himself The Last Day Prophet of God. And people with money keep falling for it! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also USA: WRMI: 11580

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1733 monitoring: confirmed at new time on two WRMI frequencies at once: Friday August 15 at 2130.5 on 7570 and 15770, following double IDs by Rudy Espinal and Ian McFarland. Despite lower frequency on day-path, 7570 is quite better here as expected since it`s beamed 315 degrees, almost right at us, about 310 from Okee to Enid, while the 315 crosses Kansas on its way to Victoria BC; but 15770 is at 44 east of true north, or 94 degrees off from here.

(Jeff is hoping the 44 degree antenna will serve the east coast well enough, but it`s about 25 degrees off from ideal: New York really at 20 degrees for which there is no antenna on the way to Murmansk. 44 misses all of our continent, about halfway between Norfolk and Bermuda, but crosses Europe a degree north of Paris.)

WOR 1733? Yes, it was a replay of last week`s show, rather than 1734 which was ready almost two days ago; prompt airing of new shows is not guaranteed on frequencies other than 9955. Reception anyhow of the 7570 transmission, if the same scheduling holds, will only improve as we get into fall and winter. Next WOR 1734 airings:

Saturday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB
UT Sunday 0100 on WRMI, 5950 (new time and frequency; maybe 1733)
UT Sunday 0131 on KVOH, 9975
UT Monday 0259v on Area 51 via WBCQ, 5110v-CUSB
Tuesday 1100 on WRMI, 9955
Wednesday 0630 on HLR, 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 1315 on WRMI, 9955
Wednesday 1430 on HLR, 7265-CUSB
Wednesday 2100 on WBCQ, 7490v
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 11580, Aug 16 at 0100, new frequency for TOM via WRMI, ex-11730, which had a lot of collisions: it`s still hard to find a really clear frequency if you need to use it 24 hours. 11580 will also be running 24/7, on same 44-azimuth antenna. The co-channels here will be: 12-15 KTWR Guam, but to its west or northwest; 1745-2030 All India Radio, English and French to N/W Africa; and per Aoki, CNR1 jamming any time between 2230 and 16 vs pipsqueak SOH transmitter relaying R. Free Asia --- may be sporadic: I haven`t been hearing CNR1 there. See also VATICAN now cleared on 11730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7555, Oct 16 at 0134, KJES is off for another night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1680, Oct 16 at 0147 UT, fast SAH resolves into barely non-ID as ``Classic Country 1680``, so KRJO Monroe LA again. Quite a weak signal compared to those on all other X-band channels as far away as Chicago, so I again suspect, as I did before last crash, that they are not running full 1 kW night power. KAZ found it odd that I never mention hearing another 1680, KNTS Seattle, until measuring that it`s quite a bit farther from me than KGED Fresno, beyond single-hop range. True, I`ve yet to get KNTS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN [non]. 11730, Aug 16 at 0104, very poor signal in presumed Tamil from VR via UZBEKISTAN, now that WRMI has moved to 11580 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5995+, Aug 16 at 0106, I notice a JBA carrier, very slightly on the hi side, in the absence of 5990 Brasil; but not in the absence of 6000 Cuba, which is splashing over this far too much. Nothing at all is scheduled on 5995 now, and there are no known Latin Americans active on it. (R. Loyola, Bolivia was last reported in 2008y but it was above 5996.) Best guess would be Mali leaving their carrier on during the 6-hour overnight break. Will have to see if it`s offset-hi after 0555 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13559-LSB, 13557-USB, and 13556-USB are the 1-kHz tuning steps where I can hear very weak CW hifer beacon at different BFO pitches, sending M T I very slowly with long pause, every 13 seconds. Harold Frodge in MI has also heard this and put it on 13555.6. Sources still contradict whether the current location is Ellicott City MD or Stone Mountain GA. Lists show a whole lot of these things around 13560, but hearing any is a challenge, so wonder if most of them are inactive, sporadic, or just too weak. I`ve yet to find out whether the other two I have heard, AJO and AZ are really in Ajo, Arizona (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs August 15, 2014

** KOREA NORTH. 2850, Aug 15 at 1201, emphatic Korean talk, as the KCBS hi-MW outlet is making it thru very poorly a bit after sunrise here at 1149 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 3985, Aug 15 at 1213, Korean talk and noise jamming, i.e. Echo of Hope, from South to North; and 3912 same situation, i.e. Voice of the People, from South to North, all poor signals; the two JOZes also making it jamming-free on 3945 & 3925 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT. 21540, Aug 15 at 1315, fair signal in Arabic as R. Kuwait is rarely making it, SSOB with JBA sigs on 21640 Spain, 21505 Saudi. So the MUF is high enough but the LUHF is also high, as BSKSA not making it at all on 17615 or 17625, assuming those 500 kW transmitters are still on the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALAYSIA. 9835, Aug 15 at 1232, after yesterday`s report from Ron Howard that this frequency was carrying Traxx FM programming, I am hoping to hear that in English, but it`s only Malay, fair signal squeezed by 9830 RTTY and 9840 Vietnam, mixture of W&M conversation, Qur`anish singing snippets, electronic sounds, pop music. 1300 time tone, can`t make out any ID, and into news. By 1307 back to music.

11665, Aug 15 at 1233, better signal than separate 9835, pop music, 1234 Malay announcement, ID as ``Radio-Television Malaysia``; 1300 news by YL about 2 seconds behind 9835 as the two have joined for news on the hour. 1308 mentions Suara Malaysia. By 1310 the two have split again, with 11665 talking about ``I Love Israel`` on Facebook; 1311 `Salaam Aleikum`` and into M&W duet, maybe in English.

Anyhow, Ron Howard relays word from Mauno Ritola earlier Aug 15 that Radio Klasik on 11665 and Traxx FM on 9835 were one-day anomalies on Aug 14; now back to normal, which means the back-to-Sarawak services altho I heard IDs for neither: 11665 with Wai FM, and 9835 with Sarawak FM. Of course, these aren`t FM at all but AM on HF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1650, Aug 15 at 0622 UT, dead air again from KYHN Sallisaw instead of `Red Eye Radio`, atop CCI from two or three other 1650s, not including Mexico City which still eludes me (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3385, Aug 15 at 1204, very poor with continuous talk past 1211 by one voice, presumably NBC News, sounds female, can`t tell if in English or Tok Pisin, R. East New Britain, Rabaul. No other PNG carriers audible, maybe already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Aug 15 until 1159:51.5* carrier autocutoff of SIBC; tuned in just in time after hearing the Micronesia 4755.5 carrier cutoff a minute or two earlier but not looking at my watch to time that one precisely (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1680, Aug 15 at 0621 UT, ``Classic Country 16-80`` non-ID and music, loops NW/SE, CCI with financial advice from presumed KGED Fresno. So KRJO Monroe LA is back on the air after several weeks` hiatus. Classic Country was its previous identity as early as Sept 24, 2013, when I logged it, a change made after the NRC AM Log 2013-2014 which went to press about August 1 showing NWS/BIZ format. Still shows Classic Country 1680 on website
http://www.krjo.com which is nothing but a listen link. So our clear shot to KGED is over. QSL manager Patrick Martin has not answered two reports I sent him (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs August 14-15, 2014

** BRAZIL. 5990, Aug 15 at 0108, RNA is still active on this frequency weaker than // 6180, and, yes, 11780 is still spurless (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9664.78 approx., Aug 15 at 0119, Voz Missionária with Brazuguese talk and hymn, poor signal but back on air tonight after missing last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, Aug 15 at 0103, RHC English is AWOL until *0106 which is handy for a bit of CKZN in the clear, on 6160: See NEWFOUNDLAND (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9965, Aug 15 at 0117, R. Cairo with good signal but open carrier/dead air instead of Arabic
9315, Aug 15 at 0123, R. Cairo fair signal but also OC/DA not Spanish
12070, Aug 15 at 0124, R. Cairo in extremely distorted Spanish, spreading only 12060-12080 at most, vs Cuban jam harmonic on low side
11710, Aug 15 did not get around to checking this until 0153, but now it`s off and probably was earlier, leaving weak RAE 11711- unscathed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. Jose Jacob & Alokesh Gupta previewed plans for AIR`s annual Independence Day special coverage of the Flag Hoisting and Prime Minister`s speech at Red Fort, New Delhi the morning of August 15. Several regional stations were to sign on their 7-MHz-band daytime frequencies earlier than usual in order not to interrupt the ceremony which lasts from 0135 until 0240 UT. This should make them more audible to the west, but nothing much expected here, and I am correct: no signals from 0130, JBA carriers maybe, or totally blocked by CCI or ACI on: 7210, 7290, 7335, 7380, 7390, 7420, 7430 (and on 49m, 6020).

Special AIR external service frequencies in Hindi: 6155, 9595, 11620; English: 9425, 11985, 15050. Somewhat better luck here:

11620, August 15 at 0128, music, fair with flutter (this one is normally in Urdu service and commonly heard here); 0133 Hindi coverage begins. Surely better than 9595 or 6155, not checked.

15050, August 15 at 0128, open carrier, poor with flutter; 0135:25 starts modulating presumed English but hard to tell. Sounds the same as better 11620, i.e. same background, but not // speech. 0136 do make out mention of ``Independence Day`` and ``every citizen ---``. Nothing audible on listed // 9425 except a possible JBA carrier. 11985 carrier is better but unusable. At 0150 I hear trumpets on both 11620 and 15050. I assume reception was much better in the Eastern Hemisphere, which is all AIR cares about (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 11760, Aug 15 at 0116, VRII Spanish audio is JBA under RHC, but //able to 9860 and to 12025. So with plenty of transmitters, IRIB now manages to penetrate on two clear frequencies, while still performing the service of clashing with RHC Spanish; it must even be even around South America.

9420, Aug 15 at 0123, IRIB Arabic music and talk, poor but in the clear as Greece is off again, nor on 9935 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT. 13650, Aug 14 at 2000, R. Kuwait going from Arabic music to ID, dramatic music intro and news, must be only headlines since by 2002:15 it`s on to another program with musical introduxion --- but cut off at 2002:53*. It takes only 22 seconds to change frequency to 17550, cut on at *2003:15, and today it`s weaker than 13650 had been; meanwhile English service with western pop music is better continuing on 15540 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 6160-, Aug 15 at 0103 CBC News via CKZN, fair signal and quite readable, a tad on the lo side, in the clear since RHC is late coming up on 6165; no echo either as it`s too early for CKZU to propagate. 0104:30 Newfoundland forecast from Environment Canada, for a full minute (the best time of hour to get local info on CBC stations if not straight IDs), 0105:30 promo for a Newfoundland show about classic cars, then blasted away by 6165 ACI from *0106 RHC, just as the next CBC show is starting, Q? It`s certainly not Ideas, which must have been on an hour earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6946-USB, Aug 15 at 0125, ``haunting`` music loop, continuous with no announcements past 0212. No carrier, so hard to pinpoint the right pitch but sounds best to me on 6946.0; recorded a one-minute example at 0211:
http://www.w4uvh.net/6946haunt.mp3
Good signal, sufficient on the PL-880 with whip only whence I made the recording. Many more logs of pirate here, all as unID:http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,18116.0.html

Barry Williams in Auburn AL says, ``The signal is better on 6945.2 USB. Got it 55555 and no noise tonight. It's Halloween spooky music. Seemingly endless too. I'm trying out a new Ameco PT-3 preamp, but I don't need it for this``. Skipmuck in Springfield MA says, ``strange Sci-Fi noises on USB, but all I get on LSB is crackling noise. Took me a while to figure it out, but the USB component is on 6945 and the LSB component is on about 6948? Weird``. I did not notice anything like that (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 89.3, Aug 15 at 0154 UT, no signal from KIEL Loyal OK, the new station which came on a few months ago. For quite some time I`ve not noticed it, tuning around on caradio, and now on PL-880 deliberately seeking it at elevation and various antenna positions, unfulfilled. What happened? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OMAN. 9500, Aug 15 at 0121, no signal from RSO, so must be stuck on 15 MHz; however, I have weak carriers on both 15355 and 15140, stronger one on 15355 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Aug 15 at 0102, R. Chaski carrier on till chopoff at 0108:05.5* which is 6 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** QATAR [non]. 7300, Aug 15 at 0110, Arabic talk on fair signal; seems almost all-talk by variety of voices.

Certainly anything in Arabic on 7300 at this hour is new as I bandscan almost every night (HFCC registered CRI in Chinese southward via Kashgar at 01-02, but not heard now). I keep checking periodically; 0130 some musical fanfares and more talk (just as my streetlight ignites with an RF burst – earlier than usual since it`s cloudy. Official sunset here is 0123 UT). 7300 is still going past 0200, now with ACI from Vatican via Greenville, violating Separation of Church and State.

Presumably this is the surprise new SW service of the Al Jazeera Arabic TV news channel, first reported Aug 14 by Ivo Ivanov on 15760 at 1100 to 1555, 7305 at 1600-1755, 7310 from 1800, and 7305 again from 2000. Probably via the Spaceline, Kostinbrod, BULGARIA site. Stephen Cooper in UK was still hearing 7305 at 2138 and matched it to the online AlJaz TV channel. So it`s a good thing they shifted from 7305 sometime after that (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, Aug 15 at 0114, SLBC carrier is on with poor signal; 0114:46 bringing up the intro music, and mistimesignal ending at 0115:18.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: confirmed on WWRB webcast and 3185, UT Friday Aug 15 from about 0331. Again blasts on at first very overmodulated and distorted, then turned down, but not quite enough. Good signal on 3185, anyway. Next:

Please check out and report our new airings on WRMI, Friday at 2130 on 7570 to the northwest and 15770 to the northeast. The 7570 broadcast is the only WOR airing on WRMI inward across North America. Then:

Sat 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB
UT Sun 0100 on WRMI, 5950 [NEW]
UT Sun 0131 on KVOH, 9975
UT Mon 0259v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB; etc.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7555, Aug 15 at 0113, KJES is missing, as happens frequently; I do recall hearing it on 11715 around 14 UT Aug 14 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, Aug 15 at 0157, WTWW-3 open carrier/dead air. What else is new? Only fair signal with fading (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7455, Aug 15 at 0144 as I tune across WRMI with so-called TruNews, the host and caller are talking about Oklahoma City, so I listen for a while: seems a Satanic Black Mass has been booked at the Civic Center, along with a procession thru the streets on Sept 21 --- first I have heard of it and I`m here in Oklahoma! Thank you, TruNews.

The broadcasters are appalled that something mocking Catholic Christianity would be allowed, in OK of all places! There is outside agitation from New York City, so that explains it. They also allege that the leader of the group is a registered sex offender. But the Civic Center is not backing down, despite being flooded with protests.

Google black mass oklahoma city civic center and you`ll find plenty about it starting with the CC itself:

The Black Mass has been a feared ritual, and now it's being brought into the light. This will be not only be enlightening but educational as well. This Black Mass will be conducted for the public to attend with certain adaptations to allow for a legal celebration. Glenn Hauser logs August 14, 2014

** AUSTRALIA. 11590, Aug 14 at 1414, RBA is playing ``Waltz of the Flowers``, but only a snippet (God forbid any SW station besides Romania should play complete classical music!), fair signal and then announcement with self-imposed echo for effect. Aoki shows daily at 1400-1430 it`s in Urdu (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 10000, Aug 14 at 1259, BPM ID in CW audible underneath WWVH full voice ID, and following WWV ID is very much weaker (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. CNR1 jamming morning of August 14:

6970, August 14 at 1245, CNR1 jammer, very poor: haven`t heard it here in a long time. // 11785 an echo apart. Aoki shows 6970 is now a Sound of Hope relay of Radio Free Asia Mandarin and Cantonese, all the way from 2043 to 1700, 0.1 kW? Not audible at next check 1346.

In the 1240-1250 period, full bandscan finds no others from 7 to 19 MHz, except the 11, 13 and 15 MHz inbanders.

9280, August 14 at 1250, CNR1 jammer now here, fair // 11785. Had not noticed it a few minutes earlier. Aoki shows this is also because of a 0.1 kW SOH relay of RFA from 2055 to 1700.

11835, August 14 at 1417, CNR1 jammer poor with CCI, // 13830 but not synchronized, and weak 15570. Aoki shows 11835 is vs VOA Chinese via PHILIPPINES during this hour only.

16920, August 14 at 1420, CNR1 jammer fair-good // 11835; no other out-of-banders 12-18 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** HAWAII. 13282-USB, Aug 14 at 1336, VOLMET on poor signal, including SFO, SEATAC, LAX and Tropical Storm Julio, now far beyond Hawaii. It`s KVM70, Honolulu, scheduled at :25 and :55 past the hours, and must be done by :40 and :10 when JIA Tokyo takes over; frequency also shared with Hong Kong and Auckland. About equally poor signal from WSY70 New York on 13270-USB (Glenn Hauser,, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALAYSIA. 11665, Aug 14 circa 1345, noted fair signal with music; wish I had paid closer attention, since Ron Howard reports this frequency is now carrying Radio Klasik, // 5964.69, instead of Wai FM (and the other back-to-Sarawak service on 9835, Sarawak FM, has also been replaced by peninsular Traxx FM, no longer on 7295 --- so now it`s in English!) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1650, Aug 14 at 0555 UT, open carrier, dead air obviously from KYHN Sallisaw, atop some weak Spanish, probably R. Luz, Denver, rather than ESPN Deportes, El Paso (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1734 monitoring: after gh WRMI ID, confirmed at 1230 UT Thursday August 14 on 9955 --- but almost equal level QRM from RFI in Chinese via TAIWAN, making a SAH, which has kept on this frequency despite our pleas a month ago to move plus or minus 10 where there would be no QRM to either. Here`s what it sounds like here at 1232, along with Cuban pulse jamming too in a second clip at 1236:
http://www.w4uvh.net/RFIWRMI2.mp3

At 0:53-1:14 into the clip I tune up to 9965, down to 9945 and back to 9955, proving that 9945 and 9965 are unoccupied. On behalf of all other WRMI programmers in the 11-13 UT collision --- Wavescan, Antena DX, Frecuencia al Día, Historias de Radio, Christ Gospel BC, Bible Commentary, Viva Miami, Reality in Jesus, Sound Doctrine, Moments in Bible Prophecy, Tell the World Ministry, Radio Prague, Buscando La Verdad, Antena DX, Angloparade, Campbell Ministries --- some of which are probably unaware of the problem, not monitoring like we do from within North America, we again request RFI to move! We can`t expect WRMI to move for these two hours only from its long-established and original 24-hour channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5985, Aug 14 I`m checking out the new WRMI-alternative programming block at 0430-0500, which is WRMI-2 at 222 degrees toward Mexico. That`s roughly 90 degrees away from Enidward, so only fair signal here, but sufficient with no QRM. Since it`s UT Thursday, the program is `Antena DX` from Panamá, but at 0435 or so has a contribution from Pedro Sedano in Spain who also appears on other Spanish DX shows. Later at 0453 there is another contributor from Spain with a feature about `Escucha Chile`, the overt R. Moscú program during the post-Allende era (killed Sept 11, 1973), as in Wikipedia,
http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escucha_Chile
``Habla Moscú, Escucha Chile, conocido simplemente como Escucha Chile, fue un programa de la Radio Moscú transmitido desde la URSS durante la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet entre 1973 y 1988.``

As shown on lines 125 & 126 of the WRMI graphic frequency schedule, this 5985 transmission, following the NHK Spanish relay at 0400-0430, is full of worthwhile programs six days a week: Mon, Historias de Radio; Tue, Blues Radio International; Wed, Trova Libre; Thu, Antena DX; Fri, Viva Miami & Acontecer Venezolano; Sat, Frecuencia al Día. And no Cuban jamming as infested on 9955 where all these also air at different times (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15825, Aug 14 at 1304, WWCR is inbooming, obviously getting a sporadic-E boost, since without it, this frequency is JBA here, at 1 megameter, too close for F2 MUF. At 1430, I check the Es MUF map at
http://www.dxmaps.com/spots/map.php?Lan=E&Frec=MUF&ML=M&Map=NA&DXC=N&HF=N&GL=N
and it now shows 28 MHz over SE AR, not exactly on the way to Nashville, but close enough.

``News`` is in progress, reporting that the CDC has issued a travel advisory about ebola, concerning Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Yes, he said Ghana: doesn`t know the difference (spelling, pronunciation, geography?) between that and Guinea! Outro as IRN-USA Radio News, which is one of those extremely unprofessional free networks with a far-right and far-religious bias belovèd of gospel-huxter outlets.

Furthermore, this travel advisory is hardly news, out since at least Aug 1, but reaffirmed Aug 13 for those three countries correctly at:
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1440, Aug 14 at 1219 UT mentions ``here in Quincy``, so WGEM sports in Illinois, but rotating soon finds another with livestock market report, ad with 303 area code, 963-number, so obviously KRDZ Wray CO on 5 kW day ND day pattern, official August sunrise being 1200 UT (Sept: 1230). Strangely, I am not hearing the usual dominator, Spanish gospel 50 kW KTNO, The Metroplex TX, not even dead air which it sometimes supplies. Then at 1227 UT there is some Spanish with a 970-AC phone --- but 970 includes Wray, one of the two CO ACs wrapping around Denver/Boulder area which keeps 303. So KRDZ mixes some Spanish too? Or did I mishear 972 which would be KTNO? Wray is right next to the KS/NE borders, a tri-state area (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 1729 UT August 14
