Glenn Hauser logs June 18-19, 2018

** ANGUILLA. 6090, June 18 at 0548, CB/TUN/PMS/DGS is on as was 11775 daytime Sunday June 17, and also daytime Monday June 18; and 6090 back on starting UT Tuesday June 19; but likely will take the rest of the week off. After all, the Scotts have absolutely nothing new to say that they have not rebroadcast countless times before, dead or alive (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BOLIVIA [non]. 6134.89 approx., June 19 at 0053, one JBA carrier. I am looking for Radio Santa Cruz to be reactivated, as Manuel Méndez, Spain had reported to the WOR iog June 14:

``6134.82, Radio Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra is now out of air because a transmitter failure; a week ago was in the air with strong distorted signal and now, since about three or four days the station is inactive. I contacted with the station via e-mail and in three hours here is the answer:

"Estimado Manuel: Agradecerte por la comunicación y el seguimiento que haces a nuestra programación. Estamos con problemas en nuestro transmisor de OC; hasta el lunes tendremos solucionado y emisión en aire. Ruego hacerme conocer el estado de la señal. Un fuerte abrazo"

They say they have problems with the short wave transmitter. Monday, June 18 these problems will be solved and Radio Santa Cruz will be back on air and they ask me inform them how the signal is heard.
E-mail address: direccion@irfabolivia.org``

But the frequency I have is more likely Rádio Aparecida, Brasil, which some time ago adjusted down from 6135.2 to 6134.9 as MM has also logged it recently; in an apparent attempt to zero-beat with its neighbor, trying but failing at least to eliminate an audible het if not the CCI. Of course, RSC might not reactivate on exactly its same off-frequency as before (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, June 18 at 0548, RHC English AWOL from here while still on the remaining four of the Cuban Five overkill, at a variety of modulation levels. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 14295, June 19 at 0118, JBA AM carrier INTRUDING in the 20m hamband, i.e. third harmonic of R. Progreso, 4765. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. Correxion re this log: ``6930-USB, June 17 at 0124, pirate with Alan Sherman`s ``Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah``, then ``Monster Mash``, both before wild audiences. S9 vs noise level about S7. Many logs here say it was Underground Radio, especially on the SSTV images:

For a Saturday night, not much activity: earlier pirate bandscans this session circa 0040 and 0111 I heard none`` ---

As reported by others in the NASWA Flashsheet, and another closer look at the SSTV, it`s UnderDOG Radio, not Underground; and the HFU thread link has changed by one digit?? Now starting at:

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1934 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday June 18 after 0130.5 on WRMI 5850 good, 7780 fair-poor. Also confirmed UT Monday June 18 from 0302 on Area 51 webcast, and fair at 0328 check on WBCQ 5129.82. Also confirmed UT Monday June 18 at 0350 the 0330 on WRMI 9955, fair; also immediate 0400 repeat on WRMI webcast only at 0425 check. Also confirmed UT Tuesday June 19 at 0049 the 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+30/45! Next:
Tue 2030  WRMI 7780 to NE, 5950 to WNW [or #1935?]
Tue 2130  WRMI 7780 to NE, 5950 to WNW [or #1935?]

Full schedule for WOR on all outlets, not just SW; podcast linx:

** U S A. June 18 at 2019+ I thought it would be interesting to compare reception from the six US SW stations on 31m in this daytime, via the E-W longwire into the R75:
9265V, WINB, S6-S5, no good, unreadable
9330v, WBCQ, JBA carrier vs S5 noise level
9350,  WWCR, S9+10/20
9395,  WRMI, S9/S5 fades
9475,  WTWW, S9/S5 fades, undermodulated
9980,  WWCR, S9+20/30
And the winner is --- obvious (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5950 // much stronger 9395, UT Tuesday June 19 at 0052, WRMI Oldies on both. The System G program skedgrid at http://www.WRMIfqs does show XMTRS 5 at 285 degrees and 6 at 355 // at these EDTs: 19-22 & 01-04 = UT 23-02 & 05-08. But the transmission skedgrid above it does not fully agree, showing R. Prague at 2330-2400 UT on 5950 only. Not on the System G skedgrid, but there are lots of other opts-away from Oldies, especially during the 00-01 UT hour. It so happens that the semi-hour I found Oldies on both allegedly occurs only on UT Tue/Thu/Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9313.60V, June 19 at 0102, weak but recognizable dulcet tones of Brother Scare, synchronized with 9329.98V, WBCQ at S9+20, so the ``9330`` transmitter is putting out spurs again, this one minus 16.38 kHz --- so let`s look for a match at plus 16.38: yes, on 9346.35, about same S1-S2 level as the lower one.

Those are first-order; how about second-order at double those offsets? Yes, even weaker on about 9297.2 and 9362.7, also less stable than the closer ones, or computed at 2 x 16.38 = 32.76 above and below. Within margins of error 0.02 kHz. I manage to detect all these despite pulsing QRM from a TV set worst in this area unless it be unplugged, let alone turned on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5050, UT Monday June 18 circa 2336 and UT Tuesday June 19 at 0048, no signal from WWRB (nor, just in case, checked, 3215, 9370). I did catch it closing about 0102 on UT Sunday June 17, and JRX in Brasil logged it the next evening, UT Monday June 18 at 0138-0150, so apparently 5050 active only two evenings a week now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15809.92V, UT Tuesday June 19 at 0120, WTWW-3 with rock music, ``Keep the Ball Rollin```, // 5085 WTWW-1. Some distortion but better modulation than before, almost as good as even stronger and less fadey 5085. Upper frequency is S9+20 with deep fades to S5, and audibly waVering with BFO. Once again it`s the OSOB unless we include 15000 WWV/WWVH, and once again obviously propagating by sporadic E, of which there is plenty across America up to HF if not VHF MUFs. Without it, a 15.8 MHz night path only one megameter away would simply not be propagating. And no other broadcast stations are even trying.

I notice that no other SW monitors ever mention Es, perhaps because they are not equally experienced with USW, able to draw the obvious correlations (I also had *one* USB ham on the 18 MHz band in no hurry to ID, with typical deep but brief Es fading, his contact inaudible) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, June 19 at 0100, WHRI playing `Onward Christian Soldiers`, its crusading themesong bound to be offensive to other religions, immediately followed from 0100:43 by Voice of Vietnam opening English relay. Always a jarring juxtaposition; but perhaps the Viet Cong are more sanguine than other Commies about obligatory Atheism? Yet always strange bedfellows for LeSEA, but they get their own propaganda in amid VOV breaks (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11905, June 19 at 0048, JBA music, YL talk, singing past 0058, but cuts off abruptly at 0059:07*. With that detail added I could repeat exactly what I said about this 48 hours earlier, so I do:

``11905, June 17 at 0051, VP S-0.5 with flutter, South Asian? music. But gone at 0100, and nothing at 0114-0116 when one expects to hear SLBC from *0115v. HFCC, EiBi and Aoki show nothing before 0100 (and HFCC doesn`t show SLBC at all). But all have CNR6 southward from Beijing in Amoy starting at 0100 --- I have *never* heard any sign of that when checking for SLBC circa 0115. Very strange. Possibly: what I heard was SLBC pre-checking but failing to come back on at normal time; or a major schedule change.``

Could someone better positioned to hear this, like in South Asia, identify it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
