Glenn Hauser logs April 6-7, 2010

** BRAZIL. At 2317 April 6 on 9665, heard Brazilian preacher, PMR not yet signed on; R. Voz Missionária, 10 kW in SC; southern conditions enhanced, northern degraded (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370 is another new frequency for RHC, April 6 at 2012 in Brazilian Portuguese, ex-11770. Online sked shows 15370 nevertheless for Europe: 2000-2030 Portuguese, 2030-2100 Arabic, 2100-2300 Spanish. 15370 stronger here than 15380, new daytime frequency in Spanish. Meanwhile at 2013, 11730 and 12030 in Spanish, 17705 in RNV Spanish;

And 11760 heard in French, which the sked claims is for Central America, with more at 2130-2200; hmm, I can`t think of a French-Fpeaking country there, and Caribe is also a valid target specified for some other broadcasts. But then, there is no Haitian-Creole speaking country in South America, either, shown as target for 2300-2330 on 17705.

Also, the time for Esperanto on 5040 is Sundays 0000-0030, i.e. meaning UT Mondays, pre-empting French other days of week; not at 0700-0730 real Sundays as DSWCI presumed, which is supposed to be on 6010, but could turn up on any of the 49m channels or even be missing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** FRANCE [non]. Trying to check whether RFI via GUIANA FRENCH, 21690, has a regular Brazilian/Portuguese transmission as heard previously around 2045: April 6 at 2015, still in French, but by 2030 was starting to fade out, still seems French, and ditto another try before 2100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. Peter W. Hansen tells us that he convinced V. of Russia that they were not really broadcasting to North America on 9665, and they advised him April 6 that they would be on new 9890 at 22-02; Harry Brooks and Mike Barraclough soon found that the schedule
http://english.ruvr.ru/radio_broadcast/schedule/
had been updated to show that.

Good going on getting their attention, but 9890 is an awful choice:

Checked at 2317 UT April 6, inaudible vs huge splash from VOA Spanish 9885 and the DentroCuban Jamming Command. (However, the jamming might stop at 0000). With BFO could only detect a trace of a carrier on 9890.

After 0000, jamming seems off but VOA Spanish still very strong, no VOR audible. At 0032 there seemed to be a trace of VOR on 9890, and at 0113 after VOA was of, VOR was just barely audible. Of course, propagation from Europe is still pitiful following geomagnetic storms.

Possibly after conditions recover, 9890, 500 kW due northwest from ``Armavir`` will be usable in eastern N America, but not very at 23-24 with the Cuban radio war on 9885 and more VOA/Martí until 01 on weeknights (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SEYCHELLES [non]. 9550, Arabic music and talk with an instruxional tone, April 6 at 2018, fair signal next to better CVC error on 9540. FEBA is still scheduled in Arabic 1900-2030 via RWANDA, 250 kW at 30 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WRMI chex April 6-7: at 2230 on webcast, WORLD OF RADIO 1506 confirmed at new time; not convenient to check 9955 but probably jammed. But next WOR airing at 0030 UT Wednesday found 9955 in the clear with no jamming, nor at 0113 when Ninochka`s new exile show was underway (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZAMBIA. 9540, at 2017 April 6, lively program in English soliciting texts to +27-782-785-300, 1Africa promo, and text number again in next few minutes. Not that there was any doubt, but Googling that number got three hits all connected with 1Africa. What`s it doing on 9540? Scheduled 19-22 on 5940!

So they mispunched the frequency reversing two of the digits, and probably not likely to repeat. Better signal than FEBA 9550 via RWANDA -- see SEYCHELLES [non] and much better than Gabon 9580. I wonder if transmitting on the wrong frequency automatically matches the antenna properly for it?

Thus without even trying, CVC reached North America much better than it could have on 5940 at this hour, aimed due northwest and toward us anyway tho intended only for Nigeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ###
