E’ cosa nota che le prime radio libere europee iniziarono a trasmettere su navi ancorate al di fuori dei limiti territoriali dei singoli stati sovrani. L’ordinamento vigente su un battello posto in acque internazionali è quello del paese dove esso è registrato, sicché se la nave batte bandiera di un paese che non vieta trasmissioni radio e non ha recepito accordi internazionali in materia, essa è soggetta solo alla normativa del paese d’origine. Sulla base di questo grimaldello giuridico nacquero nel nord Europa, negli anni 60, Radio Nord e Radio Veronica, stazioni “pirata” in AM che ben presto sarebbero state emulate da altre emittenti, che aggirarono così i rigidi monopoli statali per la trasmissione via etere. E in Italia? Invero, la struttura orografica della nostra penisola rendeva più complessa l’attuazione di tale stratagemma: l’illuminazione dal mare di città significative sul piano editoriale, politico e commerciale (come Milano e Roma) avrebbe imposto l’utilizzo di potenze che mal si sarebbero conciliate con le ristrette risorse elettriche di cui una stazione trasmittente posta su una nave avrebbe potuto disporre; inoltre il mare Tirreno, dalla scarsa profondità, non avrebbe consentito l’ancoraggio extraterritoriale in condizioni di sicurezza, mentre l’area prospiciente a Napoli era presidiata dalla base USA che evidentemente avrebbe impedito qualsiasi approccio in tal senso. Poteva, invece, essere adatta allo scopo una porzione del mare Adriatico, segnatamente al largo di Rimini: ed è proprio lì che nell’estate 1968, pur in maniera non continuativa, avrebbe trasmesso, in modulazione di ampiezza, programmi satirici, di politica, di protesta (per i motivi di cui diremo d’appresso) e musica alternativa, “Radio Delle Rose”, stazione pirata fondata dall’ingegnere bolognese Giorgio Rosa e collocata su una piattaforma artificiale (chi dice costruita ad hoc, chi essere una stazione per l’estrazione di gas naturale dismessa), ovviamente posta al di fuori delle acque internazionali, acquisita e battezzata, appunto, come Isola delle Rose o “micronazione”. Stando a Wikipedia (da cui sono tratte le informazioni che seguono), la piattaforma che avrebbe ospitato la prima e unica stazione radio pirata italiana offshore sorse tra il 1958 ed il 1962 a 11,612 km al largo della costa italiana, in prossimità di Torre Pedrera, nel comune di Bellaria-Igea Marina, dunque a 500 metri al di fuori delle acque territoriali italiane. L'Isola confinava esclusivamente con acque internazionali, ad eccezione del lato sud-ovest dove avevano limite le acque territoriali italiane. La superficie dell'Isola delle Rose era di 400 m² (0,0004 km²), mentre quella delle sue acque territoriali di 62,54 km² (attualmente in posizione quasi simile si trovano le Piattaforme Metanifere dell'Agip). Per tutto il 1965 ed il 1966 proseguirono i lavori di armamento della struttura, ma molto lentamente, poiché per le avverse condizioni meteomarine si poteva operare per non più di circa tre giorni a settimana. Il 23 novembre 1966 la Capitaneria di Porto di Rimini intimava di cessare i lavori privi di autorizzazione, poiché la zona era in concessione all'Eni. Il successivo 23 gennaio anche la Polizia s'interessava della vicenda, richiedendo conferma che si trattava di lavori sperimentali. Il 20 maggio 1967 alla profondità di 280 metri dal piano di calpestio dell'isola fu trovata, per perforazione, una falda di acqua dolce. Il 20 agosto 1967 l'isola aprì al pubblico. L'isola artificiale dichiarò l'indipendenza il primo maggio 1968, instaurando un governo costituito da un Presidente del Consiglio, che era ovviamente Giorgio Rosa, dei Dipartimenti e da cinque Dipartimenti, suddivisi in Divisioni ed Uffici. Vi era il Dipartimento Presidenza, con a capo Antonio Malossi; il Dipartimento Finanze, presieduto da Maria Alvergna; il Dipartimento Affari Interni, con a capo Carlo Chierici; il Dipartimento dell'Industria e del Commercio, capeggiato da Luciano Marchetti; il Dipartimento delle Relazioni, con a capo l'avvocato Luciano Molè; infine il Dipartimento degli Affari Esteri aveva al vertice Cesarina Mezzini. La primavera riminese del 1968, come la precedente estate, vide grande traffico marino dalla costa italiana verso l'Isola delle Rose e viceversa, destando crescente preoccupazione da parte delle forze dell'ordine italiane che vi assistevano impotenti. Fu proprio in conseguenza di tali fatti che Rosa avrebbe dato il via alle trasmissioni radio, con l’intento, da una parte, di far ulteriormente parlare dell’iniziativa, dall’altro, di esprimere in maniera diretta, senza filtri mediatici, i propri intendimenti. Tuttavia, gli ostacoli tecnici al progetto radiofonico sarebbero stati molto più significativi del previsto, sicché la stazione avrebbe trasmesso solo in maniera altalenante e con bassissima potenza. Le azioni di Rosa furono viste dal governo italiano come uno stratagemma per raccogliere i proventi turistici senza il pagamento delle relative tasse, supponendo che l’Isola delle Rose fosse in acque territoriali italiane. Presto la Repubblica Italiana dispose un pattugliamento di motovedette della Guardia di Finanza e della Capitaneria di Porto vicino la piattaforma, impedendo a chiunque, costruttori compresi, di attraccarvi, di fatto ottenendo un blocco navale. In quel momento l’Isola delle Rose aveva soltanto un abitante stabile: Pietro Bernardini che, dopo aver naufragato nel Mare Adriatico durante una tempesta, raggiunse la sicurezza della piattaforma dopo 8 ore in mare; successivamente egli prese in affitto la piattaforma per un anno. Qualunque fosse il motivo che stava dietro alla Micronazione di Rosa, il Governo italiano rispose rapidamente e con durezza: 55 giorni dopo la dichiarazione d’indipendenza, martedì 25 giugno 1968 alle 07:00 del mattino, una decine di pilotine della Polizia con agenti della D.I.G.O.S., dei Carabinieri e della Guardia di Finanza circondarono l'isola e la occuparono di fatto militarmente, prendendone possesso, senza alcun atto di violenza, con un’azione ai limiti del diritto internazionale, non contestando alcun reato o illecito, né violazioni alcune sulle leggi di polizia doganale, fiscale, sanitaria o di immigrazione. All'isola fu vietato qualunque attracco e non fu consentito al guardiano, Pietro Ciavatta, ed a sua moglie, uniche persone al momento sull'isola, di sbarcare a terra. Il Governo della Repubblica Esperantista dell’Isola delle Rose inviò un telegramma al Presidente della Repubblica Italiana Giuseppe Saragat per protestare "la violazione della relativa sovranità e la ferita inflitta sul turismo locale dall’occupazione militare", ma fu ignorato. È dell'8 agosto 1968 il Dispaccio del Ministero della Marina Mercantile, indirizzato alla Capitaneria di Porto di Rimini, la quale, il 17 agosto 1968, fece notificare a Gabriella Chierici il proprio Decreto n° 2/1968 del 16 agosto 1968, con il quale si intimava alla società costruttrice l'infrastruttura, la S.P.I.C., nelle persone del suo Presidente Gabriella Chierici e del suo Direttore Tecnico Giorgio Rosa, di provvedere a demolire il manufatto al largo di Rimini, con avvertenza che in difetto si sarebbe proceduto alla demolizione d'ufficio. Il 27 agosto 1968 il Rosa notificò un ricorso in sede giurisdizionale (il n° 756/68) della S.P.I.C., con la richiesta di sospensiva cautelare del decreto. Il 27 settembre 1968 venne trattato in prima udienza il ricorso, una seconda seduta si tenne l'8 ottobre ed in questa sede il ricorso venne respinto. Il 6 ottobre 1968 qualche giurista propose, invano, al Rosa di promuovere un ricorso al Consiglio d'Europa di Strasburgo, ma il successivo 29 novembre 1968 arrivò a Rimini un pontone della Marina Militare Italiana, che sbarcò a terra tutto quanto vi era di trasportabile dall'isola. Sul pontone si prepararono anche le cariche di esplosivo che avrebbero dovuto essere collocate sull'isola per la demolizione. Il 22 gennaio 1969 il Pontone della Marina Militare Italiana salpò per l'Isola delle Rose, per la posa dell'esplosivo per la distruzione, mentre l'11 febbraio 1969 sommozzatori della Marina militare italiana, demoliti i manufatti in muratura, e segati i raccordi tra i pali della struttura in acciaio dell'Isola delle Rose, la minarono con 75 kg di esplosivo per palo (675 kg totali) per farla implodere e recuperare i detriti (perché pericolosi per la pesca).Tuttavia, fatte brillare le cariche, l'isola resistette. Dopo 2 giorni, il 13 febbraio 1969 vennero applicati per ogni palo 120 kg di esplosivo (ben 1.080 kg totali), ma la nuova esplosione fece solo deformare la struttura portante dell'isola, che non cedette. Mercoledì 26 febbraio 1969 una burrasca fece inabissare l'Isola delle Rose. L’affondamento, ed il successivo smantellamento, durato una quarantina di giorni, fino a circa metà aprile 1969, decretarono la fine, anche fisica, della Repubblica Esperantista dell’Isola delle Rose, anche se per qualche tempo il Governo operò in esilio. Le pretese di sovranità, indipendenza e di diritti internazionali acquisiti dai proprietari della piattaforma, erano quasi tutti infondati, in quanto i cittadini italiani anche fuori dall'Italia devono sottostare alle leggi statali (questo in estrema sintesi si evince dal saggio sulla “Rivista di Diritto Internazionale” del 1968). L'isola, inoltre, fu accusata di "intralcio alla navigazione". (M.L. per NL)

"Yankee Doodle Went to Sitka'...a line from a 1944 radio tribute to WVCX Sitka [Alaska] and one of the two stations [the other was KODK Kodiak] generally accepted as being the first Armed Forces Radio stations going on the air in 1941.
The Radio Heritage Foundation now has over 30 features celebrating early AFRS stations across Alaska, Asia and the Pacific including KODK Kodiak 1941 [www.radioheritage.net/story65.asp] and a full 1941-1958 guide to the AFRS Alaska stations including all the original known outlets [www.radioheritage.net/story63.asp].
Amongst the main features are AFRS Japan, AFRS China-Burma-India and AFRS Jungle Network which detail many now long forgotten stations in long forgotten theaters of war along with some rare images.
There are features on many individual stations such as WVUS New Caledonia [from the famous Mosquito Network], WVUG Anchorage, KMTH Midway, WXLG Kwajalein [a Pacific Ocean Network outlet], WXLI Guam, WVTK Leyte, WXLE Eniwetok, and KTLG Sangley.
This month, Homer Willess, founder of WVUV American Samoa will be making his first visit back to the islands since 1942, and his inspiring story of island romance and radio can be enjoyed today at www.radioheritage.com.

Not this time --- LRA36 is back!!! 15476, Sept 8 at 1332, tipped off by tell-tale het with much stronger 15480 (Poland in Belarussian via Rampisham), very poor with a bit of music audible, 1343 fluxuating S3 to S7 peaks, splash from 15480; by 1353 only S3 and by 1411 just the carrier still detectable. As always, I make sure this is on 15476 by comparing to remnants of R. Australia on 9475 beneath WTWW 9479 splash. First time heard since July 22 on almost weekdaily chex. Spring is in the air? ** ECUADOR. 3810-LSB, Sept 8 at 0538, JBA in noise level I am hearing beeps every dekasecond, and unreadable talk betwixt. Surely it`s HD2IOA, Guayaquil timesignals, which I have often sought without success around this hour, last logged March 12 at 0640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** FRANCE. 7295, Sept 8 at 0529-0530* astounded to hear NHKWRJ signing off its 0500 English broadcast --- instead of Algeria relay via Issoudun normally on 7295 at this time. 7295 is certainly not on the NHK schedule from anywhere; no CCI. Must be totally SNAFUed at TDF, wrong feed, but cut carrier at 0530 as if they were aware they were broadcasting the semihour from Tokyo. Issoudun is scheduled to relay NHK 0500 English on 11970 which I have often heard, but no chance to check it now. They must have mixed up the 7295 and 11970 transmitters!
Meanwhile, RTA relay on 9535 continued as usual with Qur`an, now poor with flutter. Rechecked at 0550, 7295 was back on with Algeria too, much stronger than // 9535; 0602 check, 7295 off the air again.

** GABON. 9580, Sept 8 at 0524, VG S9+22 signal with Cuban music – could be Radio Habana Cuba, but not their frequency [except for undermodulated CRI relays earlier] and not their time. Yes, it`s Africa Numéro Un, best heard in a very long time, as has usually been a strain to hear, but now it`s armchair! 0526 French announcement mentioning something in Libreville and several African countries, Angola, Niger, Côte d`Ivoire, etc. 0608 still VG with news.
Either we had an unusual propagational pipeline Moyabi-Enid, or they have now got their transmitter up to its rated 500 kW for a change. Missing from HFCC, but Aoki shows only 250 kW, 350 degrees at 05-23. I bet it`s been a lot less than that. WRTH 2011 says they have 3 x 500 kW transmitters; ``Africa 1 is produced by Africa Média S.A.; a subsidiary of the Libyan state broadcaster LJBC`` --- and now what? I hope ANO continues to be audible so well with its great music, preferably not controlled by Q`Daffy. Or is that where he`s hiding? He obviously has access to broadcast facilities somewhere (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUAM. 9905-9910-9915, Sept 8 at 1234 I can detect DRM noise, presumably KTWR test, underneath heavy RTTY (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUATEMALA. 4055, Sept 8 at 1130, no signal from TGAV (note correct call: I saw a different one reported somewhere); 1140 on comes carrier, with SSB QRM from 4054.5 or so, then 1141 hymn; lasted another dekaminute or so, only heard music. Starting so late, maybe Radio Verdad skipped standard multilingual sign-on procedure. Or who knows, maybe they did it before 1130 and had a break. Must be totally SNAFUed at TDF, wrong feed, but cut carrier at 0530 as if they were aware they were broadcasting the semihour from Tokyo. Issoudun is scheduled to relay NHK 0500 English on 11970 which I have often heard, but no chance to check it now. They must have mixed up the 7295 and 11970 transmitters!
Meanwhile, RTA relay on 9535 continued as usual with Qur`an, now poor with flutter. Rechecked at 0550, 7295 was back on with Algeria too, much stronger than // 9535; 0602 check, 7295 off the air again.

Either we had an unusual propagational pipeline Moyabi-Enid, or they have now got their transmitter up to its rated 500 kW for a change. Missing from HFCC, but Aoki shows only 250 kW, 350 degrees at 05-23. I bet it`s been a lot less than that. WRTH 2011 says they have 3 x 500 kW transmitters; ``Africa 1 is produced by Africa Média S.A.; a subsidiary of the Libyan state broadcaster LJBC`` --- and now what? I hope ANO continues to be audible so well with its great music, preferably not controlled by Q`Daffy. Or is that where he`s hiding? Storia delle radiotelevisione italia. 1968: Radio delle Rose, prima stazione offshore
E' cosa nota che le prime radio libere europee iniziarono a trasmettere su navi ancorate al di fuori dei limiti territoriali dei singoli stati sovrani. L'ordinamento vigente su un battello posto in acque internazionali è quello del paese dove esso è registrato, sicché se la nave batte bandiera di un paese che non vieta trasmissioni radio e non ha recepito accordi internazionali in materia, essa è soggetta solo alla normativa del paese d'origine. Sulla base di questo grimaldello giuridico nacquero nel nord Europa, negli anni 60, Radio Nord e Radio Veronica, stazioni "pirata" in AM che ben presto sarebbero state emulate da altre emittenti, che aggirarono così i rigidi monopoli statali per la trasmissione via etere. E in Italia? Invero, la struttura orografica della nostra penisola rendeva più complessa l'attuazione di tale stratagemma: l'illuminazione dal mare di città significative sul piano editoriale, politico e commerciale (come Milano e Roma) avrebbe imposto l'utilizzo di potenze che mal si sarebbero conciliate con le ristrette risorse elettriche di cui una stazione trasmittente posta su una nave avrebbe potuto disporre; inoltre il mare Tirreno, dalla scarsa profondità, non avrebbe consentito l'ancoraggio extraterritoriale in condizioni di sicurezza, mentre l'area prospiciente a Napoli era presidiata dalla base USA che evidentemente avrebbe impedito qualsiasi approccio in tal senso. Poteva, invece, essere adatta allo scopo una porzione del mare Adriatico, segnatamente al largo di Rimini: ed è proprio lì che nell'estate 1968, pur in maniera non continuativa, avrebbe trasmesso, in modulazione di ampiezza, programmi satirici, di politica, di protesta (per i motivi di cui diremo d'appresso) e musica alternativa, "Radio Delle Rose", stazione pirata fondata dall'ingegnere bolognese Giorgio Rosa e collocata su una piattaforma artificiale (chi dice costruita ad hoc, chi essere una stazione per l'estrazione di gas naturale dismessa), ovviamente posta al di fuori delle acque internazionali, acquisita e battezzata, appunto, come Isola delle Rose o "micronazione". Stando a Wikipedia (da cui sono tratte le informazioni che seguono), la piattaforma che avrebbe ospitato la prima e unica stazione radio pirata italiana offshore sorse tra il 1958 ed il 1962 a 11,612 km al largo della costa italiana, in prossimità di Torre Pedrera, nel comune di Bellaria-Igea Marina, dunque a 500 metri al di fuori delle acque territoriali italiane. L'Isola confinava esclusivamente con acque internazionali, ad eccezione del lato sud-ovest dove avevano limite le acque territoriali italiane. La superficie dell'Isola delle Rose era di 400 m² (0,0004 km²), mentre quella delle sue acque territoriali di 62,54 km² (attualmente in posizione quasi simile si trovano le Piattaforme Metanifere dell'Agip). Per tutto il 1965 ed il 1966 proseguirono i lavori di armamento della struttura, ma molto lentamente, poiché per le avverse condizioni meteomarine si poteva operare per non più di circa tre giorni a settimana. Il 23 novembre 1966 la Capitaneria di Porto di Rimini intimava di cessare i lavori privi di autorizzazione, poiché la zona era in concessione all'Eni. Il successivo 23 gennaio anche la Polizia s'interessava della vicenda, richiedendo conferma che si trattava di lavori sperimentali. Il 20 maggio 1967 alla profondità di 280 metri dal piano di calpestio dell'isola fu trovata, per perforazione, una falda di acqua dolce. Il 20 agosto 1967 l'isola aprì al pubblico. L'isola artificiale dichiarò l'indipendenza il primo maggio 1968, instaurando un governo costituito da un Presidente del Consiglio, che era ovviamente Giorgio Rosa, dei Dipartimenti e da cinque Dipartimenti, suddivisi in Divisioni ed Uffici. Vi era il Dipartimento Presidenza, con a capo Antonio Malossi; il Dipartimento Finanze, presieduto da Maria Alvergna; il Dipartimento Affari Interni, con a capo Carlo Chierici; il Dipartimento dell'Industria e del Commercio, capeggiato da Luciano Marchetti; il Dipartimento delle Relazioni, con a capo l'avvocato Luciano Molè; infine il Dipartimento degli Affari Esteri aveva al vertice Cesarina Mezzini. La primavera riminese del 1968, come la precedente estate, vide grande traffico marino dalla costa italiana verso l'Isola delle Rose e viceversa, destando crescente preoccupazione da parte delle forze dell'ordine italiane che vi assistevano impotenti. Fu proprio in conseguenza di tali fatti che Rosa avrebbe dato il via alle trasmissioni radio, con l'intento, da una parte, di far ulteriormente parlare dell'iniziativa, dall'altro, di esprimere in maniera diretta, senza filtri mediatici, i propri intendimenti. Tuttavia, gli ostacoli tecnici al progetto radiofonico sarebbero stati molto più significativi del previsto, sicché la stazione avrebbe trasmesso solo in maniera altalenante e con bassissima potenza. Le azioni di Rosa furono viste dal governo italiano come uno stratagemma per raccogliere i proventi turistici senza il pagamento delle relative tasse, supponendo che l'Isola delle Rose fosse in acque territoriali italiane. Presto la Repubblica Italiana dispose un pattugliamento di motovedette della Guardia di Finanza e della Capitaneria di Porto vicino la piattaforma, impedendo a chiunque, costruttori compresi, di attraccarvi, di fatto ottenendo un blocco navale. In quel momento l'Isola delle Rose aveva soltanto un abitante stabile: Pietro Bernardini che, dopo aver naufragato nel Mare Adriatico durante una tempesta, raggiunse la sicurezza della piattaforma dopo 8 ore in mare; successivamente egli prese in affitto la piattaforma per un anno. Qualunque fosse il motivo che stava dietro alla Micronazione di Rosa, il Governo italiano rispose rapidamente e con durezza: 55 giorni dopo la dichiarazione d'indipendenza, martedì 25 giugno 1968 alle 07:00 del mattino, una decine di pilotine della Polizia con agenti della D.I.G.O.S., dei Carabinieri e della Guardia di Finanza circondarono l'isola e la occuparono di fatto militarmente, prendendone possesso, senza alcun atto di violenza, con un'azione ai limiti del diritto internazionale, non contestando alcun reato o illecito, né violazioni alcune sulle leggi di polizia doganale, fiscale, sanitaria o di immigrazione. All'isola fu vietato qualunque attracco e non fu consentito al guardiano, Pietro Ciavatta, ed a sua moglie, uniche persone al momento sull'isola, di sbarcare a terra. Il Governo della Repubblica Esperantista dell'Isola delle Rose inviò un telegramma al Presidente della Repubblica Italiana Giuseppe Saragat per protestare "la violazione della relativa sovranità e la ferita inflitta sul turismo locale dall'occupazione militare", ma fu ignorato. È dell'8 agosto 1968 il Dispaccio del Ministero della Marina Mercantile, indirizzato alla Capitaneria di Porto di Rimini, la quale, il 17 agosto 1968, fece notificare a Gabriella Chierici il proprio Decreto n° 2/1968 del 16 agosto 1968, con il quale si intimava alla società costruttrice l'infrastruttura, la S.P.I.C., nelle persone del suo Presidente Gabriella Chierici e del suo Direttore Tecnico Giorgio Rosa, di provvedere a demolire il manufatto al largo di Rimini, con avvertenza che in difetto si sarebbe proceduto alla demolizione d'ufficio. Il 27 agosto 1968 il Rosa notificò un ricorso in sede giurisdizionale (il n° 756/68) della S.P.I.C., con la richiesta di sospensiva cautelare del decreto. Il 27 settembre 1968 venne trattato in prima udienza il ricorso, una seconda seduta si tenne l'8 ottobre ed in questa sede il ricorso venne respinto. Il 6 ottobre 1968 qualche giurista propose, invano, al Rosa di promuovere un ricorso al Consiglio d'Europa di Strasburgo, ma il successivo 29 novembre 1968 arrivò a Rimini un pontone della Marina Militare Italiana, che sbarcò a terra tutto quanto vi era di trasportabile dall'isola. Sul pontone si prepararono anche le cariche di esplosivo che avrebbero dovuto essere collocate sull'isola per la demolizione. Il 22 gennaio 1969 il Pontone della Marina Militare Italiana salpò per l'Isola delle Rose, per la posa dell'esplosivo per la distruzione, mentre l'11 febbraio 1969 sommozzatori della Marina militare italiana, demoliti i manufatti in muratura, e segati i raccordi tra i pali della struttura in acciaio dell'Isola delle Rose, la minarono con 75 kg di esplosivo per palo (675 kg totali) per farla implodere e recuperare i detriti (perché pericolosi per la pesca).Tuttavia, fatte brillare le cariche, l'isola resistette. Dopo 2 giorni, il 13 febbraio 1969 vennero applicati per ogni palo 120 kg di esplosivo (ben 1.080 kg totali), ma la nuova esplosione fece solo deformare la struttura portante dell'isola, che non cedette. Mercoledì 26 febbraio 1969 una burrasca fece inabissare l'Isola delle Rose. L'affondamento, ed il successivo smantellamento, durato una quarantina di giorni, fino a circa metà aprile 1969, decretarono la fine, anche fisica, della Repubblica Esperantista dell'Isola delle Rose, anche se per qualche tempo il Governo operò in esilio. Le pretese di sovranità, indipendenza e di diritti internazionali acquisiti dai proprietari della piattaforma, erano quasi tutti infondati, in quanto i cittadini italiani anche fuori dall'Italia devono sottostare alle leggi statali (questo in estrema sintesi si evince dal saggio sulla "Rivista di Diritto Internazionale" del 1968). L'isola, inoltre, fu accusata di "intralcio alla navigazione". (M.L. per NL)

Then found roughly equivalent signals from two more third harmonix of Cuban jammers: 17670 at 1302, which is 3 x 5890, used by VOA Spanish only at 23-24 (Tue-Sat -01); and on 18090, 3 x 6030 vs R. Martí which just closed at 1300. Way to go, incompetent DCJC, as countless Cubans go hungry while you waste precious electricity.

Still fairly good on 15540, simultaneous English to NAm; that too is bound to deteriorate as we get into winter, while RK continues to pretend it is on 11990. ** MEXICO. Sunrise MW DX Sept 7; Heard NA on numerous frequencies around 1200 UT, but only caught one definite ID. It`s always a cat-and-mouse game, as they often fade out before the NA is finished, and you never know whether it will be a short, or long version with the same melody repeated over and over until abrupt ending.
640, Sept 7 at 1201 after NA, ID as XEJUA, 5000 watts, Milenio, Ciudad Juárez, and other sign-on data such as street address. Soon faded and I was hearing KFI with not much signal yet from nulled nearby WWLS OK.

However, this time I could not hear the +/- 15.6 kHz spur carriers circa 15810 and 15840, altho splash outward from 15825 was reaching that far. And still I don`t find spike fields to match on the high side which if exactly mirroring would range 15945-16030 and 16120-16170. SOLAR ACTIVITY
==========
Solar activity was low to moderate during the
past week. Most of the week was indeed low in
terms of flaring activity, with only minor C
flares until Sept. 4th, when a M3.2 flare
occurred at 1145 UT (peak time) in
NOAA AR 1286, close to the west limb. Strong
C flares (C8.3 and C9) had occurred the same
day prior to the M flare in the same region.
GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY
===============
Geomagnetic activity was low during the week
with only a brief period of unsettled conditions
early on Sept. 3rd at planetary levels (Kp=3) due
to a small coronal hole becoming geoeffective.

SOLAR ACTIVITY
==========
Solar activity was low to moderate during the
past week. Most of the week was indeed low in
terms of flaring activity, with only minor C
flares until Sept. 4th, when a M3.2 flare
occurred at 1145 UT (peak time) in
NOAA AR 1286, close to the west limb. Strong
C flares (C8.3 and C9) had occurred the same
day prior to the M flare in the same region.
GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY
===============
Geomagnetic activity was low during the week
with only a brief period of unsettled conditions
early on Sept. 3rd at planetary levels (Kp=3) due
to a small coronal hole becoming geoeffective.

** U S A. 15825, Sept 5 at 1224, WWCR is inbooming instead of inaudible, tnx to sporadic E activity (there was an opening yesterday evening I totally missed over eastern USA, reaching FM), with gospel huxter, splattering 15800-15840, and also matching modulation spikes circa 15670 vs the Chinese radio war. (Today by 1430, there is more Es on the 50 MHz DX Sherlock map all over central USA.)
Recheck at 1252, `Ask WWCR` in progress, saying that they did test 17580 twice in the 21-24 UT period with the `spare` WWCR-4 transmitter, received no reports except from their own monitoring, got into Slovakia, Germany, western USA, excellent results, and ``may work it into the mix later``. 9350 after 21 is beginning to weaken and may replace it with 5070 soon; also will be using 3195 [which WWRB also says it is using, but really not yet].
Since I had missed the first half, I listened online to the `latest` edition, #346 for Aug 27-Sept 9, but it wasn`t the same! Discussed upcoming HFCC and said this edition might run 3 weeks instead of 2 as they would be away at the conference disrupting usual scheduling. Said ``two Mondays ago in the early evening hours``, CR-1 was down with a blown switch, so they substituted the spare CR-4 transmitter for it and did not lose any airtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 990, Sept 5 at 1212, talk in English about the history of Fort Osage, dominating frequency at the moment, certainly not SS KFCD in TX. There is no 990 in OK, but the closest to Osage country is KRMO in Cassville, SW Missouri. Supposedly has `Hot Country Music` until 1245 weekdays, but probably a brief feature:

KTWR DRM test
With the Antenna connection completed, we are now able to test The Thomson Transmitter at higher power. On August 31 we were able to bring the Thomson transmitter to 218KW. The transmitter ran smoothly with very low reflected power. The Transmitters at KTWR Guam are two Harris SW100 Transmitters (100KW), one HCJB HC100 Transmitter (100KW) and now the two reconditioned Thomson TRE2326 transmitters (250KW). We have had an ongoing project to upgrade the HC100 Transmitter to DRM (Digital Shortwave) for several years. One of the devices needed to broadcast digitally is a content server which formats audio into the correct form of digital audio. We have not been able to work on the HC100 upgrade for a long time, due to the Thomson transmitter installation and other complications. We felt it would be a good idea to test the content server so… We configured the content server to stream Digital content to the new Thomson transmitter because the Thomson is already DRM capable. Radiofaro NDB CMO Camogli 389 kHz spento e varie
Da un po' di tempo, diciamo qualche mese, noto che il radiofaro NDB CMO di Camogli (Genova) su 389 kHz prima mi arrivava a fondo scala e ora non si sente più. Nel pomeriggio di lunedì 29 agosto 2011, con il G6 Etón in pullman sono passato in pieno centro a Camogli e ho provato la frequenza da vicino, casomai trasmettesse a potenza ridotta, ma niente da fare. Può essere non più in attività?

Prima, comunque, mi sono recato a Recco, per controllare di nuovo l'FM locale casomai avessero acceso Ecoradio ex-RIN dal Monte Moro su 97.4 MHz: per ora ancora niente, nel senso che l'impianto è sempre spento (a Recco è ricevibile), però il microscopico G6 con soli tre elementi di telescopica incorporata tipo Degen, sotto il mastodontico ponte della ferrovia e largo com'è di selettività ha tirato dentro un bel po' di segnali dal Monte Serra, come ad esempio Mater 93.9, Sportiva 94.2 e Subasio 94.5, quest'ultima nonostante i 94.6 della RAI dal Beigua. Addirittura, poi, a Camogli in certi punti Mater 93.9 entrava con la telescopica chiusa!!! Se quelli che ho visto dentro sono davvero due filtri ceramici per l'FM, un giorno o l'altro mi cimento e ci metto le mani, perché secondo me una volta modificato non deve essere niente male.

Per finire, pare che la Regione Liguria abbia approvato di chiedere alla RAI di eliminare una o entrambe le antenne di Portofino Vetta, per impatto ambientale. Sono lì da decenni e, anche se i 1575 kHz qua bloccano alcune opportunità DX, io un po' ci sono affezionato perché viaggiando sull'Aurelia le vedo e mi fanno venire in mente l'hobby a cui sono appassionato da quasi 30 anni.
Ma dico: solo ora danno fastidio? Poi voglio vedere se la RAI rinuncia o si affretta - per dare riscontro alle decisioni locali - a togliere un impianto che arriva in mezza regione e in quelle vicine. D'altronde, dopo alcuni anni di spegimento dei 936 kHz, la torre di Genova-Granarolo e ancora al proprio posto e, forse, anche il trasmettitore. Ma nel capoluogo nessuno ha mai detto nulla, anche perché magari la gente ha da pensare a cose un po' più importanti piuttosto che all'impatto ambientale di Granarolo (o del Fasce o di Righi o del Moro).

Ma dico: solo ora danno fastidio? Poi voglio vedere se la RAI rinuncia o si affretta - per dare riscontro alle decisioni locali - a togliere un impianto che arriva in mezza regione e in quelle vicine. D'altronde, dopo alcuni anni di spegimento dei 936 kHz, la torre di Genova-Granarolo e ancora al proprio posto e, forse, anche il trasmettitore. Ma nel capoluogo nessuno ha mai detto nulla, anche perché magari la gente ha da pensare a cose un po' più importanti piuttosto che all'impatto ambientale di Granarolo (o del Fasce o di Righi o del Moro).

Tnx to Harry Brooks in North East England for alerting DXLD yg members two days in advance to the annual SW specials from RTÉ, Sunday Sept 4, the GAA All-Ireland Hurling Finals, to reach isolated Irishpersons in Africa depending on SW: 1300-1700 UT on 17880 to E Africa, 17500 to W Africa and 7480 to S Africa.
Sites not specified, but likely Meyerton, SOUTH AFRICA, meaning that 17500 should carry on best to NAm. However, we had to warn that 17880 would collide with another special no one bothered to register with HFCC or clear directly with other broadcasters: DRM test from Guiana French to Brasil on 17875-17880-17885, Sept 1-15 at 1300-1600.
Might not be a problem in E African target, but as expected here, Sept 4 at 1300 and later, DRM was way atop any traces of analog talk on 17880. DRM totally dominant at 1358. 17500 at 1300 had very poor signal with talk in sport-like urgency as if it were something important, and only got weaker, often interrupted by ``bronx-cheers`` utility such as at 1357, otherwise JBA. As also expected, the third frequency 7480 would not propagate here at all, checked anyway at 1304 in WWCR 7490 splatter.
Ireland will have another such special Sunday Sept 18, the All-Ireland Football Final on the same frequencies at the same times.
These might be of more interest if there were SW direct from Ireland, and also not just silly ballgames.
