Glenn Hauser logs September 17, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9854.97, Sept 17 at 0127, same old story, R. Tirana IS below humroar, and program audio after 0130 even further below. Also this time, weak SSB QRM on the hi side. Doesn`t RTSH understand how bad these prolonged useless broadcasts make them appear in the international broadcasting community? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ERITREA [and non]. 7175, Sept 17 at 0357, AM carrier detectable surrounded by loud noise jamming, sounding suspiciously like DRM. Still same at 0431, but gone by 0520. This is listed in WRTH 2016 as Voice of the Broad Masses of Eritrea, program 2, 100 kW, irregular (and program 1 on 7200). 7175 was first reported reactivated in the local evening of Sept 14. Wolfgang Büschel then found the jamming too, presumably by ETHIOPIA. Hey, Ruxandra, shouldn`t your DRM Consortium be promoting this additional valuable application of DRM noise-producers? BTW, I also had checked after 0400 Sept 15 and did not hear any of these intruders into the exclusive worldwide 40 hamband; already off? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 720, Sept 17 at 1158, open carrier from WSW/ENE atop a weaker Mexican music station, the latter mentioning ``La Raza`` at 1202 UT, so no doubt KSAH San Antonio. I wait and wait for something to start, until 1206 Mexican choral NA finally starts; 1208 Chihuahua state song; 1209 inspirational ``un nuevo día`` recitation about ``amor, y sólo amor`` with music bed. 1212 weakening but finally brief canned sign-on as ``El Fonógrafo 7-20 AM``, street address in Ciudad Juárez, ``mil watts, Grupo Radio México``; then switch to live announcer with 6:12 TC, and calls mentioned for first time, XEJCC, plugging algo at 9 am from México DF, 1213 into music. Calls pronounced ``equis-e-jota-céce``, i.e. emphasis on the first C, rather than equal or even more stress on the second, so at first it sounded like ``efe`` or ``ese``. ``CC`` could be interpreted as cese, ``stop it`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 9545.002, Sept 17 at 0525, carrier with a trace of modulation at S4-S6, no doubt SIBC running late again, but almost back on frequency after this Sept 16 report in the DXLD yg:

``SIBC 9545 has been missing lately so I was pleased to hear them again today. Firstly at 0148 UT when the frequency was measured at 9545.146, the at 0455 recheck they were on 9545.62 but the frequency was still wandering - up to 9545.70 within a minute. Bryan Clark, Mangawhai - New Zealand`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN. 7206-AM, Sept 17 at 0426 a carrier is here, and still at 0520 but JBA, no doubt Omdurman which sometimes clix a kHz up or down from nominal 7205; same time I was originally getting Eritrea 7175 and jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13695, Sept 17 at 1702, WRMI is still providing an hour of its wonderful `World Music` as respite from Brother HyStairical before and after this hour. From WRMI schedule grids, here are all the times for World Music, plus *this one not on the schedule. There may well be others, most likely carved out from other extensive Overcomer hours!
0000-0100 Tue-Sat  7730 285 degrees
0700-0800 Tue-Fri  7730 285 degrees
1300-1400 Mon-Fri 11580  44 degrees
1700-1800 daily  *13695 315 degrees
2000-2100 Mon-Sat 11580  44 degrees
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490, Sept 17 at 0541, no signal from WBCQ. I think it was not on 24 hours earlier either, tho I failed to note that for sure. Guess what, the new 0400-0700 seven-day-a-week entry on:
``0400 0700 UTC The Hour Of The Time / The Road To Paradise`` reviving the defunct conspiracy guru William Cooper, which I had logged only on Sept 13 & 14, I did not notice either Sept 15 at 0619, and as of Sept 17 has been removed from that schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re my log of 9275, WMLK reactivated Sept 16, Rafael Rodríguez R., Colombia tells me: Esta informacion aparecio hoy publicada en la página de Facebook de la WMLK:

``WMLK Radio has returned to the shortwave airwaves today (9/16/2016) at ~12:00 noon [EDT = 16 UT]. We are broadcasting at 130 kW. Music and the Statement of Doctrine are on the program today! A lot of work has gone into bringing WMLK Radio to the current high level it now is broadcasting at! Please enjoy this remarkable event! Thank you!`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15240, Sat Sept 17 at 1702, R. Munansi is presumably still going, weak talk in Luganda(?) via WWRB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 720, Sept 17 at 1214 UT, as XEJCC Juárez is fading out, something in English from E/W, talking about César Chávez and Harvey Milk; 1217 UT several ads to 1221 fading with toll-free numbers, starting with anti-IRS Tax Shield. Hard to see how this could be anything but KDWN Las Vegas NV --- nothing else out there on 720. Per

Scheduled Saturday at 3:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. [PDT = 1000-1300 UT]:
``The Jerry Doyle Show is a mix of politics, pop culture and current events. Doyle’s strong opinions, diverse background and quick wit can appeal to all listening audiences. The real Jerry Doyle is not far removed from the character that he played, as they both uphold high standards, are outspoken and live with vivid pasts``

50/50 kW KDWN is supposed to aim a deep cardioid null toward Chicago at night, and mostly toward me, while daytime is non-direxional. Official FCC sunrise in September is 1315 UT (October: 1345 UT). I do occasionally hear them around sunrise here, always wondering if they are really on ND day pattern (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Sat Sept 17 at 1228 UT, nothing but KQAM with `Garden Wise Guys`` about how to combat webworms: spray entire trees early. Not a hint of 50 kW KBXD Dallas with its new South Asian format as heard a few days ago, so must be gone again. Confirming The Metroplex is still propagating by skywave:

1440, Sept 17 at 1230 UT, dead air; 1232 UT comes to life as Arturo welcomes an abogada guest, wishing each other and us ``buenas tardes`` so hardly live but call-in phone is Dallas, 214-787-1440, i.e. 50 kW KTNO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Sept 17 at 1341, Republic of Yemen Radio is S9+10 in Arabic talk; good ole triumphal music playing by 1419, still S9+10 presumably via SAUDI ARABIA. Reception improving and hope this continue. Today`s sunset in Sana`a is 1503, in case they should ever resume Qur`anic vespers interrupting programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. TP carrier search pre-sunrise Sept 17: Well, I finally heard something Richard N Allen did not, on my mere DX-398 and ferrite loopstick: 774 from the NW (NHK) JBA carrier definitely made it as far as Enid at 1140, when I could also detect a carrier on 693. At 1154, 774 and 828 JBA carriers. 73, (Glenn Hauser, out west from Perry, sent from my custom Desktop, IRCA via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

On 9/17/2016 6:26 AM, Richard N Allen wrote: ``What a difference a day make! I listened from about 1000 to 1215 UT (LSR) and there wasn't a trace of a TP or DU signal here this morning. I hope the folks out west have a better morning. Richard Allen, near Perry OK USA. Sent from my iPad``.

Previous morning Sept 16 (when I wasn`t monitoring), he got a bunch:

``This morning had the first reception of any TP signals here this season.
774 JOUB fair at 1100 with man in JJ on a barefoot Skywave receiver.
828 moderate het (JOBB?) in 830 WCCO sideband at 1108, audible until past 1214 sunrise.
972 strong het (HLCA?) in 970 WDAY sideband at 1109, audible until past sunrise.
1153 ROK jammer audible with 1050 XEG splatter from 1113 until past sunrise.
747 JOIB barely audible to poor, 1141-1147, moderate sideband QRM.
702 moderate het (2BL?) from southwest at 1154, fading away from 1200.
Richard Allen, near Perry OK USA`` (IRCA via gh, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Glenn Hauser logs September 16-17, 2016

** BOLIVIA. 5952.48, Sept 17 at 0057, JBA carrier, so R. Pio Doce is there, having been missing for a while (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 17640, Sept 16 at 1818, no signal from MWV/APR. However, I finally got a report of both this and 9570 Russian service being on air at same time, Sept 9 at 1830, per Thorsten Hallmann, Germany. But it must still be quite sporadic.

9600, Sept 17 at 0046, no signal from the `KNLS` English hour via MWV. BTW, Carl Mann tells me about the DX talks he produced for KNLS years ago, and maybe appearing sporadically via MWV, in forthcoming DXLD 16-37 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 594, that mystery carrier around here, masquerading as the megawatt from Kolkata, I am continuing my search for its source. Sept 16 after 19 UT, since it seems to DF from the south rather than the north, I drive to the south side of Enid, and take Southgate Blvd eastward. I stop every mile to take a DF on the DX-398 --- at intersexions with Streets 30, 42, 54, 66, 78 --- and each time I can tell it`s getting closer to N/S from the original NNW/SSE I had been getting in central and northern Enid. This confirms it is indeed from the south side. Finally at 1942 UT, past Woodring Airport and Koch Nitrogen, when I reach 90th Street, it`s just about due south. That`s enough for today; unfortunately 90 is a dirt road I prefer to avoid, but maybe back when it`s not too dry and not too wet, or approach it from the other side, and/or get some more fixes on it from other angles to triangulate. I`m still getting no signals on 297 or 198 kHz, whence beacons might have been producing harmonic. 594 so far is perhaps only slightly stronger than I am getting it further north (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Sept 17 at 0058, JBA carrier from R. Chaski as I wait for its auto-cutoff, which happens at 0058:28*. First chance I`ve had to compare it to its latest reset, which was a fortnight ago, Sept 3 until 0058:38*, 10 seconds later than today, so the expected ~6.5 second recession per noctem has not occurred! It should have reached 0100:00* by now. Need to check more often to divine what`s happening (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, Sept 17 at 0115:17, 2+1 mis-timesignal ends from SLBC after prélude music, opening Hindi or Bengali, only S2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. Re my BBC on new 5810, Wolfgang Büschel points out that altho HFCC doesn`t show it, latest Aoki does as having started Sept 9:
``5810* BBC 1200-1400 1234567 English 250 25 Nakhon Sawan THA a16``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) * means jammed by the ChiCom

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1843 monitoring: confirmed Friday September 16 at 2130.5 on WRMI, 13695, excellent. Also confirmed Fri Sept 16 at 2330 on WBCQ, 9330.0-CUSB, good S9+10. Next:

** U S A. 7490, Sept 17 at 0004, WBCQ with `Allan Weiner Worldwide`. Politix right away: Allan thinx Democrats are Communists bent on imposing a New World Order, and wants to vote for Trump, hoping his girlfriend isn`t listening and won`t leave him. Says he`s trimulcasting, also on 5130 and 3250. I don`t measure the 7, but the others at 0038: 3250.005 which is synchro with 7490, and 5129.85 which is half a sesquiminute delayed. 3250 is poor in noise level, but stronger than before.

Program news from Robert at 0111: New `Mitch & Cathy (sp?) Show`, starts Sept 24, Saturdays 8-9 pm EDT [UT Sundays 00-01], on 7490, taking away one of J.P.`s three hours of `Shortwave Saturday Night`, unfortunately: maybe will put him on 3250 instead. At 0102 I note that 9330 is off after Blalock, rather than joining AWWW or playing back a previous one. The `Reverb Madness` show has stopped, as the producer was not getting any response, was Thursdays 8-9 pm on 7490 [UT Fridays 00-01]. Allan`s benedixion at 0117, and ending at 0123, back to BS on 7490. Then I check 3250v again and there seem to be two carriers, around 3250.02 and 3250.75 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9275, Sept 16 at 1818, there it is, WMLK indeed back on the air, poor signal checked only on the PL-880, but sure sounds like EJOM, deceased. (Neighbor 9265 WINB is not on air this early: 9265 is still shown on WMLK webpage as its frequency!) So that explains the unID open carrier I was getting as early as 1300 today. They have been posting on their Facebook about repair progress, but now it is inaccessible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505v, Sept 17 at 0055, WRNO not only is on tonight, but on earlier than nominal 0100, gospel huxter at S9+25 but undermodulated. Another check at 0112, g.h. is saying ``we`re in a brand new year, 2,014``; with BFO engaged, I discover at 0113 it suddenly starting to take off, driftin downward to about 7504.90 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11521.10-USB, Sept 17 at 0050, weak 2-way colloquial Spanish INTRUDERS, way too close to 11520-AM WEWN English --- unless they are trying to hide in its splash, yet able to hear each other (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Radio Channel 292 News

With the new power amplifier and the OPTIMOD modulation system our signal on 6070 kHz is stronger and sounding better. And there are to mention some new stations that use our transmitter to reach their listeners: Radio Star (Italy), Radio West (Italy), Das Medienmagazin (DL), HIT AM (DL), Everythingradio (NL), Free Radio Service (NL), Radio Pushka / Радио  Пушка (Russia), Atlantic 2000 (France), Shortwavecommunity (DL), and once again aboard Radio Waves International (France). We wish you fun listening, and writing reception reports! And then we have to mention a premiere: WiMo, well known dealer in communications equipment offers a small software defined radio (SDR) with good features for less than 100 euros. And as a special offer in cooperation with Radio Channel 292 our listeners can get the device even cheaper when ordering via the banner on our homepage, or via this link:

And a little survey:
We think about making an application for two more frequencies, one in the 31, and one in the 19 meter band. Who could receive us there? Who might be interested?

RADIOCUBA 2016 tx lists

RadioCuba has recently launched its web site. The most interesting thing is that they have included the data about the transmitters networks in the island. Lists of transmitters operating on MW, SW, FM and TV can be found on it. But they are presented in a bit unconfortable way as all is based in interactive maps where you need to click site per site to obtain frequencies and stations operating from each one.

I have extracted the relevant data from these maps and I have composed PDFs with the transmitters listsby provinces and by frequencies. I have also included the respective provincial maps where you can see the aproximated situation of every tx. site. I have retouched some MW maps with information directly received from RadioCuba.

Both lists can be downloaded from my blog:

Glenn Hauser logs September 15-16, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9854.95, Sept 16 at 0151, R. Tirana is mostly humroar, but some music detectable under it. At 0157 I notice some crackle circa 9827, suspect it`s out of same transmitter, and it goes off at 0158 just about when 9854.95 does (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BANGLADESH. 15505, Sept 16 at 1359, Bangladesh Betar is very weak, but can hear the IS, and the 5+1 mis-timesignal ending at 1359:52, Urdu service opening theme. If timesignal hits 1400:00 it will only be a coincidence as in past it could be several seconds either side (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9320-9330, Sept 16 at 0207, big S8 blob of R. Cairo peaking at 9325 with peaks sounding like talk modulation, but totally incomprehensible. This is obviously coming out of the main blob 9310-9320, peaking at 9315, same S8 but lacking any talkish sounds, just the roar where English to North America is scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 9525.895, Sept 16 at 1305, VOI is S5-S8 and can tell there`s some talk, in presumed English, yet readability is still R=0, and there seems to be some pulsating hum along with the modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 11405, 11410, 11425, 11435, 11440, Sept 16 at 1318, all USB, presumed QSO pirates from here. 11435 is best, 11440 has a pileup, and 11425 includes some singing. Ironically, these can come in better than VOI on 9526-v (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 9550, Sept 16 at 0201, YL & YL with news in Spanish, mostly about the Islamic Republic of Iran, implying it is really VIRI as scheduled 0020-0320 via Sirjan to South America. Surprised they would be doing news at the top of real hours rather than the top of askew Iranian hours. S9-S7 fading and undermodulated. // 12025 is but a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 1300, Sept 16 at 0220, 8 y 19 minutos timecheck, from ``Radio Mexicana, la música ---``. XEP, Juárez as usual dominant signal at night, but plenty QRM too. Impossible to believe it`s 200 watts at night rather than 38,000 watts day power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 5900, Sept 16 at 1252, JBA carrier, presumed R. Rossii, Vladivostok; the other reactivated Russian SW station, R. Sakha, 7295, Sept 16 at 1252, JBA carrier is even weaker (or could be an ham); not a good propagation day for them (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9465, Sept 16 at 0205, Qur`an at S4. Only thing scheduled is TRT in Uyghur this hour, but Voice of Turkey is not known for Qur`aning, being a secular state/station, altho the Islamists seem to be in ascendancy. During long pauses, sounds like an understation talking, at first thought maybe Iran Spanish // 9550 which I had just heard? But too weak to tell. Instead, the understation could be Turkey and the overstation something new and unknown (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 5810, Sept 16 at 1249, S6-S8 poor signal, talk with accent but seems English. See UNID log of yesterday. On theory that it is BBCWS, I check 6195 which is certainly BBCWS via Singapore --- or as HFCC still labels it, `Kranji (Merlin)`! And it matches, furthermore, just about synchronized, but 5810 could still be a different site, such as Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. The current HFCC page for BBCWS still does not show any entry for 5810! What do they know?
http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A16&broadc=BBC
So it`s on 5810 for at least two days in a row, rather than jumping around (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1843 monitoring: confirmed Thursday Sept 15 at 2100 on WRMI 13695, excellent; also confirmed Thu Sept 15 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330.040v-CUSB, fair S9. Next:

** U S A. 7504.995, Sept 16 at 0154, WRNO is on tonight with gospel music, S9+30 but considerably undermodulated. Probably a fluke it`s so close to 7505.000 at the moment (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1170, Sept 16 at 0221 UT, KFAQ Tulsa with talk, and can`t detect any gospel huxter understation, so seems as if WWVA Wheeling has finally fixed its night pattern to protect us from it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9275, Sept 16 at 1300, open carrier at S6, plus some intermittent non-English, non-Spanish, Asian? language very weak 2-way USB demodulated by it; still the same at 1320. The only known broadcaster on 9275 anywhen is WMLK, Pennsylvania, which has been struggling to keep its `new` transmitter operational, has been off for a few weeks but will presumably come back eventually; normally operates only in local afternoons altho Aoki shows a possible span of 1400-2100 (never on Sabbaths! So be sure to check on Friday). Not as strong as 125 kW should be, but stronger and steadier than one would expect from E Asia, yet could also pertain to the China radio war, which could show up anywhere (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Propagation News – 18 September 2016

The solar flux index followed the NOAA prediction this week, declining to 85 by Thursday. Geomagnetic conditions were regrettably not as settled as we would have liked, with the K-index hitting three at times thanks to a continued high speed solar wind stream from a coronal hole. Luckily, no Earth-directed coronal mass ejections were observed and there were no major solar flares.

This weekend, and early next week, NOAA predicts geomagnetic conditions will continue to be unsettled, with a maximum planetary K-index of four at times. Next weekend, the 24th and 25th, may however be a little more settled.
The Sun is looking fairly spotless at the moment and the solar flux index is predicted to be a lacklustre 75 to 80.
Band conditions continue to improve, although maximum usable frequencies are being suppressed by the lack of sunspots.

The good news is we have the autumnal equinox this week, and so are at an optimum time for north-south paths on HF, such as UK to South Africa and South America.

September can also offer some good opportunities for grey-line propagation on the lower bands around sunrise.
Andy, M0NKR reports 40m has been good to the Pacific this week. He also worked Ken, T32AZ on East Kiribati on 20 metres, so it is all about being on the right band at the right time.

VHF and up propagation:

Late summer is the classic high pressure season of the year. Together with early morning mist and fog, there are plenty of reasons why VHF and UHF tropo should be on your operating schedule.

At the end of the hot weather last week, conditions fell off a little, but there were some huge thunderstorms, which produced rain scatter right down to 1.3 GHz.

This week there will be high pressure just to the south of Britain and partially over southern areas at times. This should offer good tropo across the southern half of the country down to the south over France and Germany overnight as the surface cools.

Daytime heating usually destroys any surface night-time temperature inversions, which are needed for tropo. The downside is that there may be a series of lows tracking over the north, which means winds and rain and no tropo.
It’s the late show for EME operators in the early part of this week with moonrise in the early evening, getting later as the week progresses.

Lengthening Moon windows push moonset out to early afternoon at the end of the week. Lowest losses will occur early in the week.

The Orionids meteor shower continues, with no large peak, into November, so continue to look out for enhanced meteor scatter conditions this coming week.

Glenn Hauser logs September 13-14-15, 2016

** BANGLADESH. 15105, Sept 15 at 1235, JBA carrier, unlike at 1230, presumably English from Bangladesh Betar. Checking this, since a survey by Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, Sept 6 found this transmission not heard, altho he did get all the later ones between 1315 and 2000 on other frequencies. I know it`ll be a rare day if the 15105 broadcast to SE Asia ever come in well enough here to get anything out of it. The only other English broadcast is 1745-1900 on 13580 to Europe, which I`ve hardly ever checked but would not expect it to do any better. Right, nothing audible on 13580 at 1806 UT Sept 15.

15505, Sept 15 at 1359, the Urdu BB broadcast can make it a little better here, but not today: JBA carrier, not enough to make out a 1400 mis-timesignal if there was one, but some theme music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 4885.025, Sept 14 at 0548, good S9 signal with music, vs CODAR but evitable by LSB tuning; no doubt R. Clube do Pará is again running all-night.

4885.018, Sept 15 at 0611, music station again, ``We Are the World``, but a second weaker carrier making a beat with BFO on, so R. Clube do Pará and the other ZY, Rdif. Acreana. BTW, at deadline for WRTH 2016, both were double-daggered as inactive (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 6180, Sept 15 at 1239, Firedragon mixing with Chinese talk adding up to S9+20. RTI is scheduled here at 1000-1600, 300 kW at 325 degrees right across China, so certainly Must Be Jammed. The Chinese I hear is probably more jam from CNR1 rather than victim RTI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9480, Sept 15 at 0410, still no signal from MWV/APR in English. 17640, Sept 15 at 1807, still no signal from MWV/APR in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Sept 15 at 1201, NA is playing, and at 1207 recheck, XETAR is just now signing-on in Spanish, neat rustic music breaks, and same in other native languages but they still pronounce the calls and website as in Spanish, and the sponsoring agencies. Lema: ``Cuatro pueblos unidos en una sola voz``. As usual, good signal from 10 kW daytimer La Voz de la Sierra Tarahumara, in Guachochi, Chihuahua, dominating frequency until fadeout by 1220 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 15720, Sept 15 at 0410, no signal from RNZI. I can usually conclude it`s off, since Australia is audible, but not tonight on 17840, and a JBA carrier on 15240. RNZI is however on loud and clear at 0558 on 11725 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA [non]. 7415, Sept 15 at 0619, raucous drumming & fluting, then tonal language talk, S9+20. It`s R. Dandal Kura via ASCENSION in Kanuri. Compares favorably to BBC/ASC English on 7445, only 5 degrees apart in azimuth sendoffs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 5900, Sept 15 at 1256, JBA carrier, presumed R. Rossii, Vladivostok; a timesignal is JBA circa 1300 but not looking at my watch in time to pin it down (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 7295, Sept 14 at 1301, R. Sakha is S5 with QRhaM but can tell it`s still modulating until off at 1303*.

7295, Sept 15 at 1255, NO signal detectable from R. Sakha, nor in the previous hour; off, or propped out? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Sept 15 at 1312, still a JBA carrier here, so prolonged-beyond-1200 emanations continue from SIBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SURINAME. 4990.0, Sept 15 at 0609, JBA carrier, presumed R. Apintie, which is known to run all-night. I never get it any better than this (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 11945, Sept 15 tune-in at 0559 hearing nothing but a 5+1 timesignal ending about one second late after 0600, and off*. HFCC shows it`s BBCWS in English for one hour only via Meyerton, SOUTH AFRICA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1842 monitoring: confirmed Tue Sept 13 at 2130 on WRMI 15770, good, resumed after a month of pre-emptions; also confirmed Tue Sept 13 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB, good. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 at 1315.5 on WRMI 9955, fair S8. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 after 2100 on WBCQ 7490v-AM, poor. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 after 2330 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB.

WORLD OF RADIO 1843 ready for first airing Thursday September 15 at 1130 on WRMI 9955: first check at 1140, JBA but sounds like me; confirmed by 1149 when it`s surged up to S9+20! as sunrise propagation has kicked in, the ionosphere warming up. Next:

** U S A. 7490, Sept 14 at 0559, S9 WBCQ is still on in expanded schedule until 0700, but not Bill Cooper at the moment. Two guys with informal chat about songs and improvising some music, whistling, saying it`s a ``variety program, as well as religious, not the same as Bill Cooper did``. Interrupted by quick automated ToH WBCQ ID, but they are apparently unaware of it, as not until 0605 do they play some of Allan`s ID jingles.

As I reported before, expanded 7-daily 0400-0700 UT 7490 sked shows ``The Hour Of The Time / The Road To Paradise``. But checked next night, Sept 15 at 0619, 7490 is OFF! That didn`t last long; or an anomaly?

Intervening, on 7490.048-AM, Sept 15 at 0252, an `Allan Weiner Worldwide` playback is running as scheduled, the one with Pam and her ukulele singing a song she composed about pirate radio, 0300 cut to scheduled `Financial Survival`. The 0100-0300 UT Thursday block, no longer needed by Hal Turner, had been mentioned by Allan as a possible slot for pirate YHWH, who wanted to be on WBCQ. I didn`t check last week or earlier tonite in case it already happened as a one-off? I asked Allan to let me know when YHWH would show. Meanwhile, as on UT Thu 01-03 only, Brother Scare has been shifted from 7490 to 5129.86; if there are no other takers for that bihour on 7490, I suppose they may as well give it back to BS. And 9330 is off now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475-, Sept 15 at 0247, WTWW-1 is still on at S9+40, Ted having failed yet again to switch to night frequency 5830 at 0200. Next check 0605, 5830 is still off, and 9475 has shrunk to a JBA carrier, but obviously that`s what it is, nothing else scheduled. No doubt it stays all night, spewing its white-supremacy crap into nowhere; good. At 1156 still no 5830 and 9475 JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775v, Sept 15 at 1437, KVOH is a hefty S9+27 during Spanish praise music, but with BFO can tell the carrier is wobbling slightly and rapidly. Was not audible at all at 1400 if they really signed on then, before the ionosphere attains daytime MUF over the western path. When will KVOH ever get their replacement transmitter going? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 840, Sept 15 at 1202 UT, looping N/S, peppy M&W announcers in Spanglish, mention McAllen, soon fades out, no doubt KVJY, CoL Pharr TX in the RGV. Radio-Locator linx to this website
which appears to be current, as Informativo RG, but R-L also calls it ``La Luz`` with an address in Austin. Neil Kazaross was getting this in Kansas City and thought there had been a format change at KVJY. Beware: there is another Luz on 840 and 101.9 FM in Guatemala. As for Spanglish, it`s hard to imagine anystation broadcasting that from the other side of the bortera (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1170, WWVA: I have been meaning to correct a slip on WOR 1842: saying Virginia instead of West Virginia as its state of origin, if not transmission. I certainly know the difference; altho to be fair, the other one should be East Virginia. Can you imagine a Carolina and a South Carolina; a Dakota and a North Dakota, or vice versa? Axually, I seem to recall one of the Dakotas was considering co-opting the un-direxional name (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Sept 15 at 1214 UT, peppy M&W announcers mixing English with South Asian language (Hinglish? Engjabi?), VG from SSE, i.e. KBXD Dallas --- so they have finally become a real station after stunting for months with nothing(?) but S Asian pop music. Promos/ads for somethings in the 469 area code, which is one of the overlays around 214 Dallas. 1218 UT ID as ``Radio Salaam Namaste``, introducing a music break; now losing a little to KQAM Wichita with a 2.5 Hz SAH. 1222 UT ``This is Radio Salaam, 1480 AM, Bollywood Channel`` --- sometimes leaves out the ``Namaste``. Ad for some event Sept 18 at the Irving Convention Center. Ad for bridal jewelry from Mark Samuel Jewelers. ``Radio Salaam Namaste, 1480-AM, music with a beat``; generic birthday wish.

KBXD is 50/1.9 kW, clearly on day power now. It had a hard time getting going since a rebuild, with previous religious or music formats stunting (``Wonderful K-Box``), and long spells off the air.

Googling around, it seems a station of the same name had been on 104.9 (KZMP) since at least 2008y, but no mention of an FM frequency now!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 560, Sept 15 at 1159, Mexican loops SW, 6:59 timecheck, ``Mundo Deportivo`` segment in news, something in the Estadio Jalisco. There are no tapatíans on 560, but most likely XESRD in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango; or XEGIK in Monclova, Coahuila, altho the only 560 with a purely news format in the 2015 IRCA Mexican Log is XEOC in México DF. But many musical stations include a morning news block, which can throw you off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 702, Sept 15 at 1147, the only TP carrier I can detect is this, from the west, presumably 2BL Sydney, Australia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2800, Sept 15 at 1151, wideband warbling centred around here, and off. Could it be HAARP reactivated from Alaska? Via CIDX Messenger, Rick Lindquist`s ARRL article says:

``The FCC recently granted two Part 5 Experimental Service licenses for HAARP ionospheric research "across multiple bands." WI2XFX will cover experiments in discrete parts of the HF spectrum, including 2650-2850; 3155-3400; 4438-4650; 4750-4995; 5005-5450; 5730-5950, and 7300-8100 kHz. A second Experimental license, WI2XDV, covers ionospheric research between 1 and 40 MHz`` (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 1843, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5810, Sept 15 at 1244, very poor signal with talk: nothing is listed in EiBi, Aoki or HFCC except WEWN at 00-05 (and no, this is not now // 12050). It could be a new jumparound channel for BBCWS English, e.g. via Thailand to avoid ChiCom jamming, which means it would be somewhere else in the area tomorrow, but maybe back here in a week next Thursday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7265, Sept 15 at 1255, soft songs vs LSB QRhaM. Per EiBi, Azad Kashmir Radio is here from PAKISTAN until 1300, while CNR2, CHINA Business Radio is on 7265 before and after 1300. Aoki, however shows an AKR break off the air between 1215 and 1330. If they both be on, which one would more likely be playing ``soft songs``? On Aug 30, Ron Howard found that AKR does not sign off at 1215, but blocked after 1230 by CNR2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11415-USB, Sept 15 at 1251, presumed Indonesian QSO pirate best but weak here; also others detectable intermittently on USB: 11405, 11420, 11455, 11460. Just talk, no singing heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11980, Sept 15 at 1321, weak signal seems to be jammed by several stronger offset carriers causing multi-hets, from circa 11980.40, 11979.45, 11978.40; still the same at 1403 and 1443 chex. The only thing scheduled on 11980, at 1200-1400, is CRI English via Kunming. Heard on two receivers. Or possibly of local origin? I`m afraid so: still hearing them on a third at 1735; never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
