** CUBA. 9850, Sunday Dec 14 at 1353, I tune in RHC to hear some enjoyable `Cuba Campesina` music, but it cuts off the air a few seconds later, tnx a lot! getting a head start on the QSY to 15370. So I tune that in by 1354 to find an open carrier, cuts off, then back on with modulation, then modulation off with carrier on, 1356 finally manages to run both at once and stay on for the tail of C.C. I notice that 9640 is still on, an echo apart, so from the other site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Dec 14 at 0602 UT, KZLS Enid is *still* open carrier/dead air as noted 6 hours earlier. Same at further chex 1350 UT, 1454 UT, 1540 UT and 1618 UT. Incredible how a broadcaster can care so little about his own station to allow this to go on unnoticed for hours and hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Dec 14 at 0611, fado fill music from WRMI instead of Brother Scare who is scheduled daily at 06-11 on 9955; good signal, 0613 on to a Spanish song; incomparably improved programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9395, Sunday Dec 14 at 1359, ME music, 1400 Global 24 ID, 1401 back to weekly R. Cairo relay with `Modern Egypt`, YL speaker; fairly readable, but there is some buzz in the background; as she is wrapping show at 1405 I distinctly hear a child crying in background, so must have had to bring it with her to work even in the studio. 1406 ``final program`` is about a museum in Alexandria dating from Mohammed Ali, including something of platinum; 1409 that`s already ending, title maybe `Life & Times of Egypt`? and into songs for the rest of the transmission which will surely end around 1420 requiring more fill music from G24.

Good signal, but is not going to be so good for a couple of weeks. Jeff White tells me, ``Glenn: As of Monday, we are going to be experimenting with Global 24 on the 181-degree antenna to the Caribbean for a couple of weeks while we work on an antenna project here. It could be a little longer than that, or it could be shorter. When we are finished, we will probably put Global 24 on one of the 355-degree antennas full-time. 181 is high-angle to Cuba/Caribbean. The 355's are not. So that will likely come in a lot better in your location, although the center is still beamed further east. We only have two 315-degree antennas, and they are on transmitters 11 and 12, which are mostly sold to Brother Stair. Jeff``

** BRAZIL. 11714 approx., Dec 13 at 0327, center of extremely distorted crackly spur matching the modulation peaks of 11780.1, RNA/RNB --- yes the second-order spur is back, about 66 kHz away from fundamental, which means the first-order spur 33 kHz away circa 11747 is much stronger than usual. On 1 kHz DX-398 steps, I can hear it between 11742 and 11752, really messing up something on 11750. Matching spurs on hi side, 11813 and 11846 are slightly weaker. ** CHINA. 9320, Dec 13 at 0316, very poor signal with heavy flutter, talk in Chinesish. Yes, Aoki shows the only usage of 9320 is by Sound of Hope 100-watt relays of Radio Free Asia, and thus *jammed by CNR1 with at least 100x the power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1751 monitoring: confirmed Friday Dec 12 at 2130.5 on WRMI 7570 & 15770, both good.

WOR 1751 also confirmed via special make-good airing on Area 51, UT Saturday Dec 13 at 0305.5 via WBCQ both 5110v-CUSB and 7490-AM. `Allan Weiner Worldwide` ran over two hours from 0100, and AW is not delivering his closing prayer until 0302; 0304 plugging his new Free Radio Special. Allan had also mailed me about this Dec 12:

``Hi Glenn, Well- checking in. To try and get more free radio broadcasters on the air legally, we are offering a Free Radio Special open to all. For $20 the hour the FR folks can have access to one of our 50 kW transmitters on 5110 kHz. You can read all the details on the http://wbcq.com site. Why pirate when you can really get out. Unfortunately, propagation from Maine is really bad tonight: 5110 is JBA and 7490 is very poor (and 9330 is no longer on). 7490 is also troubled by splatter from extremely strong WRNO which is active again on 7505.34, more than 15 kHz away! This WOR airing is instead of UT Monday Dec 8 at 0400 on 5110 only, because John Lightning asked for and got an extra hour for his broadcast, pre-empting WOR. Furthermore, Larry Will agreed to air the latest edition of the irregular DX podcast from Hobart Radio International, Tasmania, after WOR, heard starting at 0334 after WBCQ jingle ID. Reception too poor to try to follow now, but it`s available online.

WOR NOT confirmed at 0401 UT Saturday Dec 13 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395, a time I was told would be added; `Jazz from the Left` continued instead, heaving played ``Sunny Side of the Street`` at 0339 check. Lacking anything specific from G24, it`s time to remove this from my roster.

Keith Perron, of PCJ Radio International, reported at 0222 UT Dec 13: ``It seems Jazz From The Left is the only thing running now on Global Radio 24. And it seems it's the same couple of hours airing. ** MEXICO [non]. 6010, no sign yet here of XEOI, Radio Mil, which Ron Howard reported reactivated as of December 11 from 0218 past 0504. I don`t check until 0622 UT Dec 12, when there is a very weak signal with a song slightly on the hi side of 6010, which I assume to be usual COLOMBIA, along with similar bad signal on 5910; 0630 announcement on 6010 is unreadable. Nor circa 1350 do I find any signal on 6010, but that may have been too late for DF propagation. ** MYANMAR. 7200.0, Dec 12 at 1354, very poor signal with music, right on frequency as far as I can tell, tho on Dec 1 at 1420, Wolfgang Büschel had measured Myanmar on 7200.104. Sudan has reactivated 7200 but it supposedly does not start until 1430, and the only other user of this band-edge channel, Iran, is not on until later. ** SUDAN [and non]. 15549, Dec 12 at 1539, weak het or tone to jam R. Dabanga, now on air via VATICAN, and thus also jamming WJHR 15550-USB from Florida, tsk2. Sudan government is really pissed at R. ** U S A. 14902-USB, Fri Dec 12 at 1525, Civil Air Patrol net with lots of check-ins, mostly weak signals but some strong. Current NCS is a YL with strong signal from the Southwest Region, and like a few of the others, each of her transmissions concludes with a beep, which I tend to associate with CB equipment. At first I thought a tactical call was ``Broadway 43``, but then it`s clearer as ``Tri-blade 43`` (as in old-fashioned propellers?). Refers to what`s being communicated on ``the other frequency``.

On this hi frequency it`s apparently a nationwide net, calling up various regions, North Central first. Arranging relays among stations which can`t hear each other. Other calls heard, mostly tentative, and probably stations calling but some may be stations called: CAP 148, another net control; White Peak 974; Georgia CAP 204; Triblade 19 (YL with beeps); Shiprock 8404 with beeps. At 1536 now: Red Fox 17, Red Robin 103, Red Fox 79, etc., etc. All contacts extremely formal, per protocols, some referred to as ``sir`` but I never hear a ``ma`am``. ``Wilco`` still exists (for will comply).

Triblade is also the name of a hand blender made by Kenwood (would that be the same company making radios??). Searching on that along with CAP I keep getting prompted, Did you mean Tribal? So now I`m less certain that was the word I heard. UDXF yg has no hits on Triblade.

(Hmmm, ``Lesbian`` being of Greek origin, Turx may not like them for that reason either?) 0653 waltz theme wrapup, 0654 jingle for KBC (a promo?), 0655 `Feature Story News` originating from Washington, seems up to date; recheck 0700, ad for Benito Radio Jet (??) available at Universal Radio, and ConnectorZone.com ad; 0701 back

** U S A. I don`t always publish replies and follow-ups to my logs in subsequent log reports: for that you need to see the `final` editions in DX LISTENING DIGEST. But here are a couple prompted by my remarx about PSRA and PSSA powers concerning KFLP 900 TX: (gh)

Regarding KFLP 900, Pre Sunrise Authority (PSRA) or Post Sunset Authority (PSSA):

It's my understanding that if your night power is MORE then the Post Sunset Authority power, you can use your night power instead. I worked for one station on 1590 and if I wasn't going to sign off at sunset, I could use 27 watts at night. However, my post sunset power was anywhere between 4 and 11 watts. I could've used that 27 watts and been OK.

Most stations I know who have pre sunrise authority have a pretty healthy power. I had 500 watts, and the records were at the station, not in the FCC database, but that 500 W was better then the night power.

I assume if your night power was more then the pre sunrise authority, you could use your night power there instead, just like you did at post sunset (Paul B. Walker, Jr., CA, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

That is generally correct. If a station has a higher night power, they have the option to use it instead; however, there are some special exceptions where a different pattern is also specified for the PSSA or PSRA which is more restrictive than the night pattern. This is to prevent unwanted twilight interference from sunrise or sunset skip (Russ Edmunds, PA, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Not that it had any value whatsoever, serving merely to propagate Dead Gene Scott from Los Ángeles, without so much as a local ID, ever. But it`s often crashed before only to return eventually. 17850, Dec 11 at 1432, open carrier with rapid intermittent pulsing sounds but which do not seem to be interrupting the carrier. HFCC schedules now an imaginary ``tentat`` English! broadcast from RFI at 1430-1500, 500 kW, 84 degrees from Issoudun. Something in the worx? I doubt it, but why run the transmitter at all? #1751, first airing confirmed on WRMI webcast, UT Thursday Dec 11 at 0430, but *inaudible* on 9955, off the air or just not propagating? Bits of pulse jamming but not enough to obscure the signal. 9395 was slightly better, JBA, while WRMI 5 & 7 MHz channels VG as usual.

Next airing on WRMI, Thursday Dec 11 at 1330 is JBA on 9955, but enough to confirm it`s on the air and new #1751. This time, all the other WRMI channels are *much* stronger, including 9395, 11580, 11825, 15770, so something must be wrong with 9955. Next:

** U S A. 9395, Thu Dec 11 at 1333, Global 24 via WRMI is relaying KBS World Radio in show about folk tales, and a very good strong signal, unlike 9955, so maybe really 315-degree antenna altho WRMI frequency schedule grid continues to show 355 degrees for 9395 at all times.

At 1400 change to Old Time Radio hour, on `Upstate Radio Theater` (meaning New York, or what? Lots of states have up and down parts), and it`s the *same* episode we have heard a few times before, `Woodbury Show Starring Bing Crosby` dated September 18, 1934, as that season was beginning (just like TV ``seasons`` still begin around fall equinox today). First song is ``Love in Bloom`` but only a teaser, as he sings it in full at 1426 recheck; 1430 Woodbury soap ad. Yet another instance of G24 playing the same old shows over and over. It seems keeping a 24/7 schedule updated with new content cannot be achieved, sigh. For this to succeed financially they need to be in it for the long haul (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Well, its website http://www.allagnews.com/ seems timely and with podcasts available, but nothing about any other stations relaying, so belay that about `flagship`. KFLP itself is only 250 watts day, 7 watts (ha, ha) night. Oh oh, official sunrise in December is not until 1345 UT (SS 2345 UT; January: 1345-2400 UT). FCC Correspondence File does show they have a PSRA of 3.0 watts! Most of the year, surging to 6 or 5 watts in June and July, the ``limiting station`` being XEW!

1) What`s the point of a PSRA which is LOWER than the authorized night power? 2) XEW hardly needs any protexion from Floydada considering there`s now a station in between in Monterrey NL plus four other XEs on 900, unclearing 900 for XEW`s alleged 250 kW. 3) What`s the point of ANY AM station running less than 10 watts, with loads of QRM on every channel at night? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 910, Dec 11 at 1316 UT, outro to `American Story with Tom Brokaw`, says it`s on at 7:15 am and in the 1 and 5 pm hours [ergo cited in CST which inhabits NW ND, while the SW corner is on MST], then Minot ads, so it`s KCJB getting out well again before sunrise. This 5 kW signal has opposite patterns day and night: SW and NE respectively, so must be on day pattern now, despite official December & January FCC sunrise not until 1430 UT! Nothing in FCC Correspondence Folder about a PSRA.

Finally find a match at KHRO El Paso TX, http://www.fox1150.com/ It`s 5000/380 watts U1, i.e. always non-direxional. FCC AM Query however, shows day hours in Dec are 1400-2400 UT (Jan: 1400-0030 UT).
