I am told the KNLS transmitter problem is a modulation transformer failure in the Continental 418, and a that a search is underway for a replacement, probably from one that is out of service and being used as a "parts car". Modulation transformer failures in high level plate modulated AM transmitters are not all that uncommon, even in well manufactured high quality transmitters. When transmitters of that type were common in medium wave service there was even a company which made replacements as their primary product. (Ben Dawson via WOR io group)
