Glenn Hauser logs May 5-6, 2016

** ARGENTINA. 11710.51, UT Fri May 6 at 0123, RAE better than usual, about S9 with tango music during Japanese hour which likely has more listeners in Brasil, Perú than in Japan. Had been more like 11710.6 or .7, but I see Aoki now has it on 11710.5 as well (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 4814.97, May 6 at 0153, JBA signal at S7 vs CODAR, presumed Rdif. Londrina, exactly where I measured it last December 1. More ZY carriers, some with audio, on 4845.0, 4865.01, 4925.2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11765-11795, May 6 at 0125, splatter from RNA 11780.0 during music, and the fundamental itself is out of whack, distorted. The lower edge merges with splatter from 11760 CUBA, q.v., so hard to tell them apart around 11770. Fortunately, RRI French on 11800 is far enough away to remain clear.

6180.03, May 6 at 0143, RNA`s other frequency reactivated last night is on again tonight, causing ACI to poor 6185 XEPPM, México`s only SW station remaining. Greeting listeners calling in from around Brasil. At least this one is not distorted and splattering unlike // 11780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 11635-11705, May 6 at 0121, RHC Spanish 11670 is splattering out to plus/minus 35 kHz; the only victims I can detect are somethings on 11640 and 11700, and the splatter worsens closer to the fundamental. Fortunately this doesn`t reach Argentina, q.v. 11710+.

11745-11775, May 6 at 0123, RHC Spanish 11760 is splattering only plus/minus 15 kHz! But the hi side meshes with splatter from 11780 BRAZIL, q.v.

11830-11850, May 6 at 0127, RHC Spanish 11840 is splattering only plus/minus 10 kHz, still too much, abutting very weak 11830 and 11850 signals previously found to be RHC spurs.

12060, May 6 at 0134, lite pulse jamming on second harmonic of the pileup on 6030 against Radio Martí. (This is just as my streetlite ignites, with RF noise burst on some frequencies, clear sky after sunset at 0123.)

7335, May 6 at 0138, lite pulse jamming audible underneath Radio Romania International in Romanian, which was foolish enough to share a frequency with Radio Martí, even tho an hour apart as Cuba is sloppy with its jamming hours, better too much than too little.

(In A-16, RRI is on 7335 at 00-02, Martí at 03-05, instead of 7365 as before and after --- not clear why they don`t stay on 7365 where there is no collision, unless it`s in ACI deference to Vatican and BBC on 7360, Iran on 7370) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [non]. 7425, May 6 at 0137, Radio Martí at S3 with JBA modulation, also on 7305. These intermodulations with 7365 from Greenville escape the DentroCuban Jamming Command, but secret listeners will need really sensitive receivers and/or turn up the volume. No good after 0145 when Vatican modulation starts on 7305 and also leaps onto 7425 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 7210-LSB, May 6 at 0140, distorted music at S9+20, intermittent with some Spanish talk, no doubt pro-Castro Cuban trying to block the N1NR anti-Castro net; and also ACI to a US ham in English on 7208-LSB. Arnie could give him some lessons in netiquette, ha2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 9315.0, May 6 at 0111, big S9+25 humroar but no program audio which should be R. Cairo in Spanish before 0200 unEnglish. No // found, but:

9965.0, May 6 at 0119, R. Cairo at S9+35 with OK modulation in Arabic, lite whine. Nothing audible in the 12`s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9935, May 6 at 0112, ERA with Greek music, very good S9+20 and no whine! Seems they have finally repaired it, and // 9420 is S9+30, probably on an azimuth closer to us? No info in A-16 HFCC, but Ivo Ivanov skeds show same 323 degree azimuth from Avlis, with 170 kW on 9420 vs only 100 on 9935 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 12025, May 6 at 0131, Spanish conversation with Castilian accent, poor S6 and undermodulated, so this is one transmission which VRII has not canceled. HFCC shows for the 0020 broadcast both Kamalabad and Sirjan registered with 500 kW each, 310 and 300 degrees respectively, but only two hours from KAM and three from SIR. Running both would be inadvisable, so presumably meant to be alternates, or anticipating the closedown of Kamalabad rather than both for the entire A-16 season. Seems to me the real Castilians once used 12025 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9665.0, May 6 at 0115, no signal from MWV, just Voz Missionária on lo side, about 9664.95. So this transmitter off the air too? The 01 ``KNLS`` English transmission had been pretty reliable, tho should have QSYed to 9660 or 9670, for example. Or maybe it moved somewhere else?

9480, May 6 at 0403, no signal either from African Pathways Radio, normally well-heard English hour, so seems both transmitters may be down again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 4955.0, May 6 at 0149, music at S7, presumed only known station on 4955, R. Cultural Amauta, Huanta, but which Aoki and WRTH think closes at 0100, 5 kW OAX5S. (Hardly anything from Angola 4949.7 tonight) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 11850, May 5 at 2038, RRI English is very poor S5, but at least it`s out from under RRI DRM on 11865-11870-11875; it took them 5 weeks to unravel this self-collision since the beginning of A16, 11850 first reported May 2 by Alan Roe and Peter W Hanson of the DXLD yg. // 13650 is better, merely poor at S7; however on a better day it should be fair to good, and the // should instead be on 15 MHz, like 15170 was last summer, and still in use this year but only after 2100 in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1824 monitoring: confirmed Thursday May 5 at 2100 on WRMI 13695, excellent; also confirmed Thu May 5 at 2330 on WBCQ 9329.853, fair. Next:

** U S A. 17790, 15770, 15440, 13695, 11825, 11565, 9955, May 5 at 1940, all these WRMI frequencies are missing, some normally weak, some normally inbooming. Not a blackout, as 15370 Cuba is VG. At 2020 recheck, now I do hear WRMI on 21675, 17790, 15770, 15440, 13695,  11825, 11580, 11565, 9955. Another power outage at Okeechobee, I suppose (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9975, May 6 at 0120 check, KVOH is still AWOL, and we don`t know why (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) So is WRNO 7505v

** VIETNAM [non]. 12005, May 6 at 0130.0, S9+25 dead air; not until 0130.5 does VOV open Vietnamese with ID ``Day la Tieng Noi Viet-Nam``, and music, anthem? (See WRTH 2016 domestic service listing page 446 for all the diacriticals). This is via Woofferton UK, having just missed the English semihour but another may still propagate at 0230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
