A partire da domenica 13 dicembre, Radio Taiwan International riprenderà le trasmissioni a onde corte in lingua coreana. Durante una cerimonia tenutasi oggi nella sede della stazione radio, il presidente del consiglio di RTI, Lu Ping, ha evidenziato i molti aspetti comuni che Taiwan e la Corea del Sud hanno in comune e ha evidenziato lo scambio audiovisivo e culturale con cui entrambi i paesi possono imparare gli uni dagli altri. AIR re-branding its services from 1 Jan 2021
Come January 1, 2021, the airwaves in India will not be the same again as All India Radio is rebranding all its Home Services on MW /FM
Each State/ Union Territory (except Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh) will have a separate network of their own. The programs will be originated by the station in the capital city of each state which will be relayed by all other stations in that particular state.
Now many AIR stations broadcast their own programs with occasional relays from New Delhi / State capital etc. This system will end on 31 Dec 2020.
There will be also new 9 regional channels for entertainment, in addition to the Vividh Bharati Service.
It may be noted that this system is already followed by Doordarshna TV.

** COLOMBIA? 4940, Dec 9 at 0212, anonymous mystery missionary station, usual gospel huxter in Spanish, VG S9/+10 into TWR Bonaire SDR. The very active CadenaDX FB, organized primarily by Santiago San Gil G. in Venezuela, has been reporting on this, trying to locate it by reception quality and triangulation during a coördinated overnight monitoring project, Dec 5 from 2230 until 1030.

It was also roughly translated into the WRTH FB, via Ron Howard, WOR iog. They think it may be in Arauca on the Venezuelan border, if not across the border. This is in the NE corner of Colombia, while my own attempts at TDOA DFing via Kiwi SDRs had among some obvious far-off suggestions, landed circa Puerto Ayacucho, Venezuela, further down the Colombian border.
Someone also heard the catch-phrase ``Fuerza de Paz``, which is one of the names associated with Martin Stendal`s ministry with ex-stations on 5910 & 6010, as well as ``Colombia para Cristo``. However, I assume this was mentioned in the old recordings rather than an explicit ID for the 4940 station. They found the station apparently broadcasting the continuous stream of Fuerza de Paz Radio.
Meanwhile, I have undertaken a different approach. Lack of IDs or locations announced implies it is not licensed, so is there anything about it in official Colombian government radio licensing info? I asked Jim Thomas, who is familiar with researching FM info in Latin American official websites for WTFDA`s FM database, for the current SW info, which he forwarded to me.
Each tropical band, 120, 90 and 60 m has a long list of possible frequencies, each with a channel number. They all end in -5, not -0, IIRC a long-ago arrangement with Venezuela which used -0 frequencies. 4935 is Canal 175 and 4945 is Canal 176. As I also reported previously, there used to be a YV station on 4940. Now there are NO Colombian or Venezuelan tropical band SW stations on the air, except for this one, whichever it may be. Should it be licensed in Colombia nevertheless, this listing is from April 2019, long before it appeared on the air, so would not necessarily be included.
[As an aside, the official webpage goes on to assign channel numbers to the International SW bands from 188 on 5905, up to Canal 898 on 26095! and to which a few lower stations were still on the books altho we know all of them have been gone for years, except the latest ones being 6010 & 5910 which tested briefly this year; including callsigns and STL frequencies in the 300-MHz band, by departments, each 5 kW except Bogotá 20 kW, which were of course Rdif. Nacional; FYI:

RF 22, Dec 9 at 1637 UT, Level-3 tropo enhancement for 1500 predicted over the 4-corners OK/AR/MO/KS area, with lesser rings outward, Enid on the edge between 1 and 2, and almost every `open` UHF channel plus some VHF have a Bad signal bar. RF 22 first decodes as KSNT, which is supposed to be RF and virtual 27 in Topeka KS, which KFOR OKC would be blocking on 27 itself. Before it soon fades out, or rather cuts off below DTV threshold, I hasten to explore the subchannels which are: 27-2 SBN; 22-3 HSN-2; 22-4 KTOU with full screen color bars!; 22-5 Shop. So this is really the OKC station on 22, almost matching Rabbitears listings,

They sought anonymity given the number of people that Pack has fired in his relatively short time in office. USAGM officials including Pack did not respond to a detailed request for comment.
Pack informed acting director Elez Biberaj of his ouster at his routinely scheduled noon meeting. Biberaj, rather than resigning or retiring, will return to his prior job as head of the Eurasia desk, one of six large regions covered by the global network.
Biberaj, a 40-year veteran of the network, was named by Pack over the summer to lead Voice of America on an acting basis, meaning he could be removed at any time. He has walked a fine line ever since. While he never publicly condemned Pack, he frequently reasserted the importance of the independence and credibility of the VOA newsroom even as Pack publicly condemned it and initiated a wave of investigations of its journalists for perceived anti-Trump bias.
Late Tuesday, Biberaj sent a note to staff confirming the reports, wishing his successor well, and assailing Pack's actions — though never by name. "The last six months have perhaps been the most challenging period in VOA's recent history," Biberaj wrote, calling USAGM and VOA's relations "regrettably adversarial."
"Some agency officials failed to respect rules, protocols and processes that I considered inviolable, and displayed an indifference to the disruptive impact their actions and decisions had on VOA's operations and mission," he added. "Attempts to trample VOA's journalistic independence threatened to undermine our hard-won credibility at a time of global democratic backsliding and increased international threats to America's values and moral leadership."
Reilly, Biberaj's apparent replacement, has written in strenuous defense of Pack. Reilly is a former State Department official and author. He has written critically of Islam and gay rights, the latter in a 2015 book titled "Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything."
Pack is also said to be weighing the ouster of the acting leaders of VOA's sister networks, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia.
Pack was first nominated by Trump in 2018 but was not confirmed by the Senate until June. The two top officials of the VOA at the time immediately resigned. Pack moved swiftly to fire the remaining chiefs of the networks overseen by the agency and to push out many top executives.
Taken together, VOA and its sister networks reach more than 350 million people overseas, in an effort that both models American notions of free speech and political debate and fills the need for independent journalism in those countries that do not have a free or viable press.
Pack's actions have turned the agency and its networks upside down.
A federal judge recently ruled in a case brought by a top VOA news executive and five suspended executives that Pack had acted unconstitutionally in initiating those investigations. U.S. Judge Beryl Howell wrote that Pack had violated those journalists' free speech protections by violating the "firewall" protecting the newsroom's editorial decisions from the parent agency's interference.
Four contractors lost jobs and an editor was suspended from the Urdu language service. Biberaj did not take action against the other journalists, despite intense pressure to reassign or fire several staffers. Foremost among them: White House bureau chief Steve Herman, who displeased Vice President Mike Pence with reports about his violating COVID-19 protocols at the Mayo Clinic last spring.
Soon after Pack arrived at USAGM, he moved to fire most of the top leadership team, including the chief financial officer, the general counsel, and the chief strategic officer. Due to civil service rules, he did not succeed. He was forced instead to put them on paid administrative leave, alleging they had committed security breaches that could leave the agency open to foreign espionage.
In August, Pack signed an agreement with McGuireWoods, a law firm based in Richmond, Va., to "conduct an internal investigation on behalf of USAGM regarding the complaints of potential misconduct by employees, including but not limited to use of organizational resources," according to legal documents reviewed by NPR.
The firm's lead partner on the case is a prominent Virginia attorney with strong Republican ties: John D. Adams, a former law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Pack, a conservative filmmaker, made a documentary focusing on Thomas's life with the usually recalcitrant justice's full cooperation.
A spokesman for McGuireWoods confirmed the contract in a statement.
"The U.S. Agency for Global Media ("USAGM") has retained McGuireWoods to conduct an independent review of aspects of a number of government reports issued since 2015, as well as other issues. This includes, but is not limited to, the Agency's response to a June 2015 Office of Inspector General (OIG) report relating to the Open Technology Fund ("OTF"), and a series of government audits and reports issued over several years relating to the Agency's personnel security program."
A lawyer representing whistleblowers against Pack and the agency railed against the contract. "It's patently absurd to root out abuse of government funds by paying a private law firm hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars," said David Seide, an attorney for the non-profit Government Accountability Project. "It's a gross misuse of government resources. That's what inspector generals are for!"
Seide previously worked as an investigative attorney for two federal inspectors general's offices.
McGuireWoods's earlier and inconclusive investigation of whether Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam appeared in a racist yearbook photo cost Eastern Virginia Medical School more than $360,000, according to the Virginian-Pilot.
Most of the executives whom Pack sought to fire are currently contesting their suspension and the ultimate goal of their dismissals, which he sought to instigate once more in recent weeks, according to several people with knowledge.
Pack does not appear to be chastened about the rebuke he received from Judge Howell. Lee Crain, an attorney representing plaintiffs in lawsuits against Pack, filed a complaint early this month with U.S. Justice Department attorneys who represented Pack and the agency. Crain wrote that senior aides to Pack had intervened in the planned promotion of two Voice of America journalists to long-term status despite Howell's banning any such involvement by the agency in VOA's editorial or personnel decisions.
Crain said the federal attorneys told him they were seeking more information from USAGM's lawyers.
Pack is himself likely to be dismissed once Joe Biden becomes president, a power the incoming president has thanks to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling giving Trump the authority to force out the head of other independent agencies.
It may prove trickier for a Biden-appointed USAGM chief executive to name new heads of the networks, however. Pack's moves led Congress to draft legislation intended to impede the CEO's ability to do so without support of an advisory board that would itself first need the approval of the U.S. Senate.

Segnalo che World Christian Broadcasting (ascolti indicati con *) al posto della trasmissione in lingua russa ha trasmesso musica pop (compreso i Doors). Test? Ho anche effettuato una scansione di tutte le onde lunghe per vedere quali stazioni sono ancora attive (Islanda e Danimarca non sono riuscito ad ascoltarle). Per me Radio Luxembourg ha abbassato la potenza, arriva meno forte del solito.

Pakistan policy to mandate DRM in all new cars
Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has requested that the Government includes the Policy for equipping all cars in Pakistan with DRM receivers in its automotive policy.
This will be discussed for inclusion in the Automotive Industry Development and Export Plan for 2021-2026 of the Ministry of Industries and Production. PBC representatives will be part of the consultative body that will issue the new automotive policy.
This represents yet another major step in the already significant progress made by PBC towards the roll-out of the DRM digital radio standard in both the AM as well as VHF bands in their country.
This policy will be a key driver for all major automobile brands and OEMs to prepare and produce line-fit DRM radios in their new cars and also to provide solutions for the after-market vehicles in Pakistan. (asiaradiotoday.com)

** U S A. 17790 & 7570, Dec 7 at 1501, special WRMI broadcast as first heard testing yesterday. Instead of 17-note IS, now 3 notes repeating every 48 seconds for 7 seconds, G-Bb-A above Middle C as confirmed on my keyboard, and in between 5-digit number groups in YL synthetic English, with Bosnian? accent. The letter G, and only G, is sometimes interspersed with 4 numbers, especially the first group after the notes. Ivo Ivanov earlier copied a few numbers, but not same ones I am hearing now. Jeff told us this would start at 1300 today, but Ivo says it did not until 1350; and Steve Howe in VT from 1351.
17790 here is again very strong S9+10/20, so I do suspect it is one of the transmitters hookable to a 315-degree antenna aimed right at us. Like WRMI-11 on 7570 which is only S9/+10 in daytime after all; i.e. 17790 being WRMI-12 which is on 5850 at night but mostly off the air daytimes 11-23 UT. If not 315, then 285, used by WRMI-13 on 7730 at night. I keep listening, but do not bother to copy the numbers which are not going to be useful except for insiders.
At 1600 a Bosnian? ID; supposed to quit at 1700, but still going and a late canned ID again at 1705, 3-tones resume, and NOW switch to numbers in Russian! Bosnian is very similar, but this sounds like pure Russian, e.g. ``odin`` for ``one``, not ``jedan`` as in Bosnian. Until 1720 another Bosnian? ID and then the 17-note IS resumes as heard yesterday but not until now today. I am monitoring 17790 only which is stronger here, even on the portable ATS-909. That continues past 1750+ until final ID at 1800* and off.

These broadcasts were made by the company that sells the Call of Duty video games. I don’t have all of the details, but it has something to do with the promotion of a new Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War game. Specifically spy numbers stations. Certain gamers throughout North America were provided with shortwave receivers and they had to monitor the numbers and get clues for the game. I guess the same principle as the old Cold War spies. There may be some YouTube videos online about this; I’m not sure. Jeff``

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
30 November - 06 December 2020
Solar activity reached low levels this week due to C-class flare
activity. A total of ten C-class flares were observed this period.
Region 2786 (S17, L=343, class/area=Cko/1000 on 25 Nov) produced
three C1 flares, Region 2787 (N30, L=303, class/area=Axx/10 on 30
Nov) produced one C1 flare, and Region 2790 (S22, L=252,
class/area=Hsx/110 on 03 Dec) produced six C-class flares. The
largest event of the period was a C3/Sf from Region 2790 at 01/0427
UTC.
Multiple CMEs associated with flare activity and filament eruptions,
predominately off the east limb, were observed this week, however,
none were Earth-directed.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit. The greater
than 10 MeV proton flux became enhanced on 30 Nov following a CME
off the NE limb on 26 Nov, and remained enhanced through 05 Dec. The
greater than 10 Mev proton flux reached a peak of 6.5 pfu at 01/0655
UTC.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached
high levels on 02-03 Dec, with normal to moderate flux levels
observed throughout the remainder of the summary period.
Geomagnetic field activity was quiet to unsettled on 30 Nov, and
quiet on 01-06 Dec, under a nominal solar wind regime.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
07 December - 02 January 2021
Solar activity is expected to be very low to low throughout the
outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to reach high levels on 20-26 and 29-30 Dec. Normal to
moderate levels are expected to prevail throughout the remainder of
the period.
Geomagnetic field activity is anticipated to reach G1 (Minor)
geomagnetic storm levels on 19 Dec, with active levels likely on 18
and 24 Dec, due to recurrent CH HSS influences. Quiet and quiet to
unsettled conditions are expected to prevail throughout the
remainder of the outlook period.

23 - 29 November 2020
Solar activity reached moderate levels. The largest event was an M4
X-ray flare from a region just around the SE limb. Associated with
the flare was a Type II radio sweep (765 km/s), a tenflare (240 sfu)
and a CME signature first observed in SOHO/LASCO C2 imagery at
29/1325 UTC. Modeling and analysis of the event suggested only the
far periphery had the potential to interact with Earth around 02
Dec.
Of the numbered regions currently on the visible disk, 2786 (S17,
L=343, class/area, Cko/1000 on 25 Nov) was the largest. It produced
several C-class X-ray flares as it rotated across the disk, the
strongest being a C3/Sf at 26/1253 UTC. The leader spot remained
stable throughout the reporting period while the intermediate and
trailer spots exhibited frequent, but short-lived new spot
emergence.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at
normal to high levels throughout the reporting period, with the
highest flux of 2,430 pfu observed at 23/1700 UTC.
Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to unsettled. Numerous
periods of weakly enhanced Bt, combined with frequent sustained
periods of southward Bz, produced periods of unsettled conditions on
23 Nov and 25-29 Nov. 24 Nov remained quiet.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
30 November - 26 December 2020
Solar activity is expected to be at low levels, with a chance for
R1-R2 (Minor - Moderate) radio blackouts on 30 Nov - 14 Dec, due
primarily to the flare potential from a region just around the SE
limb. Very low levels are expected on 15-18 Dec and low levels are
expected from 19-26 Dec.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected range from moderate to high levels. High levels are
expected on 20-26 Dec while moderate levels are anticipated for the
remainder of the outlook period. All enhancements in electron flux
are due to anticipated influence from multiple, recurrent CH HSSs.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at quiet to G1 (Minor)
geomagnetic storm levels. Potential influence from the periphery of
the 29 Nov CME may cause periods of active conditions around 01-02
Dec. Coronal hole influence is expected to produce active conditions
on 18 Dec, G1 (Minor) storm conditions on 19 Dec, and unsettled
conditions as influence wanes on 20 Dec. Weak interaction with the
current sheet is likely to produce unsettled conditions on 23-25
Dec. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be quiet.

** AUSTRIA [and non]. 6185, UT Sun Dec 6 at *0500, Moosbrunn on just in time for NHK English relay at weekend timing, ex-6155; makes fast SAH overriding XEPPM, which I was hearing weakly in Spanish before 0500; via Rochester NY SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 6075, Dec 6 at 1553, S9 strongest signal on band by far, the only listenable one some 2.4 hours after sunrise here, Chinese talk and plucked music to timesignal and off 1600*; meanwhile same music on 7300 if not synchronized. Aoki/NDXC for 6075 shows CNR1 jamming vs Taiwan but until 1730*; also PBS Qinghai with CNR1 too until 1600*. Furthermore, CRI in Urdu via Kashgar until 1557. None of these seem apt for pushing such a bigsig thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ERITREA [non]. 17545+, Dec 6 at 1542, confirmed no Bayto Yaikl on Sunday, just Wed & Sat so far. Traces of 17615+ Sa`udi, 21690 France (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PHILIPPINES. 9275, Dec 6 at 1550, Chinese music S7-S9 with flutter, FEBC Bocaue at 10-16. WMLK has also reserved 9275 at 17-22, 53 degrees toward Europe, if those Yahwists ever get their new 300 kW transmitter and antenna in Bethel PA on the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 13565-CW, Dec 6 at 1453, 1.8 milliwatt HIFER beacon K6FRC is JBA with ID only repeating, from Patterson CA - tuned across almost every morning, last logged October 11. Standard inquiry: is it always on the air or not? Fortunately, no spurblobblox from RHC today (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO 2063 monitoring: not confirmed UT Sun Dec 6 between 0447 and 0600 several chex of WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, but ARNL and other ham shows, such as at 0505 `ARNL` about the Arecibo collapse. Hope WOR had aired earlier before I tuned in. Heavy CW QRM thruout, must be a 160mb contest. Next:
We hope WBCQ will be back on by 2300 Sunday, apparently missing Saturday due to nor`easter.

** U S A. A nor`easter hit the WBCQ area on Saturday December 5, and it seems it has been knocked off the air, altho not certain, perhaps deficient propagation. 6160v, Dec 6 at 0503 check, no signal into Rochester nor here, but may have just normallyarea51
7490, I was also checking whether a conflict with WHRI, but only the latter heard on 7490.0, Dec 6 at 0455 with gospel huxter into Warrenton MO SDR I`m mainly monitoring for WA0RCR; 0503 S7-S9 gospel song.
9330, Dec 6 at 1624, no signal from WBCQ with WLC. Ivo Ivanov earlier noted it absent at 1000 when scheduled in French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 17790, Dec 6 at 1808, very strong S9+10/20 unfamiliar electronic interval signal, recorded. Rick Barton, AZ first reported his at 1720, then WRMI ID at 1800. Also heard by Harold Frodge, MI; Wolfgang Bueschel using Bonaire SDR, at 1751: ``twin tone 17790 and 17795 kHz signal strings``. At 1812, Peter W Hansen: ``17790 comes best at Bay Area California and 17795 in New York and Iceland.``
I ask Jeff White about it! ``Hi Jeff, Questions I hope you can answer: 17790 -- what is the origin and significance of that unfamiliar [17-note] interval signal? Is this really from Okeechobee? Which transmitter and antenna? Excellent signal here. Is this leading to a new relay client? Any other new frequencies planned? And you were running 17795 at same time? Others heard that. From another site? At 1900 ID sounded like a mixture of Spanish, and Russian?``
``Glenn: It's a test for a one-time special transmission tomorrow [Mon Dec 7] from 1300 to 1700. I can't really say who it's for until tomorrow. Two frequencies: 17790 and 7570. The language was Bosnian. Yeah, it's OK to share it. Jeff``

** U S A. 17775-, re KVOH missing December 4, Ray Robinson of KVOH replies December 5: ``Hi, Glenn. 17775 was indeed off on Thursday and part of Friday [Dec 3-4] due to a preventative Edison power cut to the area that includes the KVOH transmitter site. It will likely be off on Monday [Dec 7] too, not due to Edison, but because of some maintenance work we need to do (that can only be done when we have lights and power!). ** U S A. 5830 & 5085, Sunday Dec 6 at 1548, WTWW-1 & 2 are OFF, unlike in daytime yesterday; 9475 WTWW-1 is also OFF, when normally it would be on a Sunday morning. Ivo Ivanov however had heard 5085 & 5830 still on at 1000, beyond schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 11709.1, Dec 6 at 1546, weak signal making a het with another on 11710.0, and flutter. Only two listed at this time are CNR1 from Beijing 572 site, and Voice of Korea [North], the latter more likely askew; Commies vs Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 13593, Dec 6 at 1455, very intermittent distorted spur of talk modulation; 13700 & 13740 RHC are both on but cannot make a match to them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Istruzioni per l'uso dell'Apparecchio Radio " Marconiphone Universal Baby Crystal - (Produzione circa 1924) -Apparecchio presente nell'ala dedicata a Marconi del "Museo delle Comunicazioni di Vimercate" - Collezione Privata 12HNX Dino Gianni

Prima di precedere alla traduzione integrale dall'inglese del "Libretto di istruzioni" che accompagna questa rara radio a "Cristallo di Galena" prodotta dalla Marconiphone è interessante osservare come questo piccolo e grazioso apparecchio radio, costruito dentro un elegante contenitore di ebanite, rechi impresso il marchio "BBC- Registrazione n°4215". Questo sigillo è l'autorizzazione a suo tempo rilasciata dalla famosa "BBC" all'impiego di questo tipo di apparecchio per l'ascolto Broadcasting (Stazioni di Radiodiffusione). Periodo: prima metà degli anni 20 dello scorso secolo.

"Marconiphone Universal Baby Crystal" "Manuale di istruzioni per l'uso" - Traduzione integrale dall'inglese
E' naturale supporre che quando entrate in possesso di un ricevitore senza fili, che esso sia un più costoso plurivalvole o un piccolo apparecchio a cristallo, desiderate ottenere dal vostro strumento il miglior risultato possibile. Per ottenere questo la prima considerazione da fare è a riguardo dell'antenna, ciò ancor più specialmente se il Vostro strumento è un ricevitore a Cristallo, poiché mentre un apparecchio a valvole può dare risultati soddisfacenti con una antenna limitata, da un ricevitor a Cristallo non ci si può aspettare un risultato analogo. Per questo scopo la Compagnia Marconiphone olle in dote ad ognuno di questi ricevitori un manuale dal titolo " Riguardo alle Antenne" nel quale la questione è trattata in modo completo. Ora poche parole su come collegare ed usare il Vostro "Marconiphone Baby Crystal". Potete osservare che esistono 4 morsetti montati in coppia sul lato superiore dell'apparecchio, una coppia reca i simboli A ed E: A è il morsetto di collegamento Antenna ed E è quello di collegamento a Terra, l'altra coppia di morsetti reca i simboli T (Telefono) e serve per collegare i terminali del cavo della cuffia. Quando avete compiuto questi collegamenti come sopra spiegato, aggiustate il contatto del Baffo di gatto in modo che la punta dello stesso si appoggi leggermente ma in modo sicuro alla superficie del Cristallo; tra le due coppie dei morsetti sopracitati troverete un deviatore a 2 contatti contrassegnati rispettivamente 1 e 2 , se la vosra antenna è lunga (da 80 a 100 piedi) il contatto andrà posizionato su 1, per una antenna più corta (50 piedi) il contatto andrà posizionato su 2. Fatto ciò avanzate lentamente la lancetta ad indice comandata dalla levetta che sporge dal corpo in ebanite dello strumento, spostandola dalla posizione I verso la posizione 10, ciò per ottenere una ricezione la più chiara possibile.

Quando questa è ottenuta per aumentane ancor più l'intensità aggiustate il Baffo di Gatto su differenti punti del Cristallo, così facendo potrete trovare il punto più sensibile ed una volta che questo punto viene individuato la levetta della sintonia deve essere riaggiustata, dopo di che il ricevitore non necessita più di ulteriori attenzioni a meno che il ricevitore non venga sottoposto a un urto che vada a spostare la posizione del Baffo di Gatto sul Cristallo. Quando si aggiusta la posizione del Baffo di Gatto sulla superfice del Cristallo ci vuole particolare cura perché l'eccessiva pressione può comportare danni al delicato filo in metallo armonico del Baffo di Gatto, bisogna quindi effettuare il più leggero contatto possibile compatibilmente con la stabilità di ricezione. Evitare sempre di toccare con le mani la superfice del Cristallo, ciò comporta un effetto dannoso sulla sua sensibilità. Dopo alcuni mesi di impiego, può verificarsi che la intensità di ricezione risulti sensibilmente indebolita, questo fatto può essere risolto tagliando la parte finale del filo armonico del Baffo di Gatto con forbici taglienti, ma attenzione a che il taglio non va fatto di netto ma bensì eseguito con angolazione dì 45° così che si mantenga la forma a punta di contatto del terminale del Baffo di Gatto. Durante un forte temporale Antenna e Terra devono essere scollegate dall'apparecchio e attaccate l'una all'altra; scollegarle dal ricevitore è necessario perché le cariche elettrostatiche dell'atmosfera possono creare gravi danni al cristallo presente nel ricevitore.
