Glenn Hauser logs September 1-2, 2016

** ALBANIA. 9855-, Sept 2 at 0127, R. Tirana is JBA with IS? and hum? at S1-S2, too weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ARGENTINA. 11710.7, Sept 2 at 0125, RAE with tango song, S1-S3 but modulation no longer distorted like last time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BOUGAINVILLE. 3325, Sept 2 at 1137, presumed NBC with poor signal, but enough to convey some  music, still there at 1231. Going by Ron Howard`s obs; but beware: RRI Palangkaraya is also active from before 1000 until 1700v*, per Atsunori Ishida (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA. 2325 & 2485 & 4835, Sept 2 at 1130 check, all three VL8s are still OFF (one should try for Sikkim 4835, but would be tough beyond the west coast; and WWCR still big on 4840 until 1159 as the sun is rising here --- I think, as website sked not updated since Aug 31).

9580, RA is on and VG as usual, while 12065 & 12085 are JBA with low MUF. After 1500, 9580 is still in well with music on the BST-1 caradio (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COLOMBIA [and non]. 6010+, Sept 2 at 0016, two signals, very poor both on hi side of frequency, slightly apart, making a beat, surely LV de tu Conciencia, and R. Inconfidência, Brasil. Same at 0138 check.

5909.975, Sept 2 at 0017, S6 music much stronger than 6010, from Alcaraván Radio, and the frequency is wavering slightly. (Wolfgang Büschel was also monitoring this in Germany a semihour earlier at 5909.973). Another remeasure check at 0523 after NHK/France is off: 5909.984 up to S9; and 6009.949, as the upper HJDH twin does vary more, both sides of nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 7735, Sept 2 at 0103, some pulse jamming can be heard on the hi side of 7730 WRMIBS, but not on the lo side circa 7725. Another stray, or a feeble attempt to QRM deliberately? 7405 has similar stronger pulse jamming against no Radio Martí (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11830 & 11850, Sept 2 at 0123, S1 signals in JBA Spanish, enough to // on another receiver to 11840 RHC, the parasites always attached to it. Fundamentals 11670 and 11760 also // but not as strong as usual.

6000, Sept 2 at 0527, RHC English with distorted modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EAST TURKISTAN [non]. 9350, Sept 2 at 0111, two weak signals slightly offset, i.e. ChiCom jamming and RFA Uyghur via TAJIKISTAN during this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EGYPT. 12005, Sept 1 at 2348, VP weak blob from R. Cairo, which runs for another hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 6145, Sept 2 at 0136, JBA carrier, below the noise level, presumably AIR as scheduled, on the frequency The Farty KBC will be overtaking from Sept 11, UT Sundays at 00-02 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDONESIA. 3344.865, Sept 2 at 1234, JBA carrier carefully measured again, the signature of RRI Ternate; I`d say accurate to within 2 Hz. Atsunori Ishida does not deal in precise frequencies, but careful observations of activity times: it`s being heard from around 1000 until 1500v*, ``often low modulation`` per http://rri.jpn.org (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11600, Sept 1 at 2058, nice chanty music, good signal until cutoff without announcement at 2100*. It`s Denge Kurdistanye, via PRIDNESTROVYE, per Aoki during its final segment. Haven`t heard it this well in months, no good in our summer mornings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 820, Sept 2 at 1155, Spanish romantic music pauses for a YL non-ID, ``Canal 800-20`` (meaning ``ochocientos veinte`` not just ocho-veinte). Good with WBAP nulled making slow SAH of 32/minute = 0.533 Hz; 1159 segué instead of any ID or anthem; strong enough to get a good DF on it as slightly CCW of west-east, which fits for Mexicali BCN; and finally at 1202 a more complete non-ID, ``Canal 800-20, ABC Radio``, more songs. Gone by 1220. So it really is XEABCA as suspected, obscuring its grandiose 6-letter legal call. Getting a SRS boost, LSR here being 1204, but still hard to believe it`s only 500 watts night as in IRCA, Cantú and WRTH, or even 3500 watts day from a kilomile away, overcoming 50,000 watt WBAP lately; seemingly a boost from previous nonentity (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Sept 2 at 0015, JBA carrier, so R. Chaski is back on, and enough S6 signal at 0057 to hear some music modulation, but after a quick check of VOV/WHRI, 5980 is already off circa 0059! So their slippery autotimer has indeed been reset way earlier; and now will resume sliding about 6.5 seconds later per 24 hours until another reset (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 6173.9, Sept 2 at 0100, JBA carrier is surely R. Tawantinsuyo on its signature off-frequency, in the absence of anything on 6175 such as Woofferton, WHRI or VOV as it claims (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, Sept 2 at 0114, open carrier then JBA music prélude, 2+1 mis-timesignal ending at 0115:10, SLBC opening (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 9480.09, Sept 2 at 0112, JBA carrier, off-frequency; nothing listed. Wolfgang Büschel also heard this at 0100 with BBCWS (English?), same S9+20 strength as 9410 Oman and 15310 Thailand, maybe Singapore testing? Unusually, he doesn`t specify exact frequency or whether it was ``even``. Since I found it askew, I`d vote for UAE or South Africa site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1841 monitoring: confirmed Thursday Sept 1 at 2100 on WRMI 13695, VG. Also confirmed after 2330 Thu Sept 1 on WBCQ, 9330.033-CUSB, good S9+20. Also confirmed Friday Sept 2 at 2130.5 on WRMI, 13695, very good. Next:

** U S A. 9330-CUSB, UT Fri Sept 2 at 0109, WBCQ is playing back last Friday night`s `Allan Weiner Worldwide` when he was talking about the 500 K$ fund-raising project, WBCQ ``at a crossroads``. Normally would go off at 0100 after Blalock the blaster, but why not do this? Open ended, after all, so can play the full AWWW which keeps going past 0200 as Pam is in concert from at least 0156; with ``99 Years``, 0201 ``Turn Your Radio On`` as AW joins in.

My photocell-controlled streetlite had just fired up with an RF noise burst at *0108, finally able to time it with a clear sky at sunset, which was 0059 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Friday Sept 2 at 2108, glad to hear WRMI with ME World Music instead of Brother HyStairical who is supposedly scheduled until 2200 M-F, -2100 Sat/Sun; and is still blathering away on 11565, 11580, 11825, 15440 and no doubt some others less audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, Sept 2 at 0020, WTWW-3 is VP S6, music underlying talk, probably Russian Bibling but too poor to be certain. Sometimes 12105 is blasting in evenings, other times like this --- on the edge of propagation/skip zone if not wide variations in transmitter power. At 0120 check, it`s down to S1 and seemingly dead air as usual during the final hour. By then, 9475, WTWW-1 can only achieve a poor S6 signal, yet SFAW modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, Sept 1 at 2359, I`m ready for another monitorage of the new VOV relays setup to see if it`s any different from inaugural night. WHRI ID; 0000 UT Sept 2 joining VOV theme after a pause, sign-on in English. It`s S9 but fadey like last night, on an unfavorable beam for us from SC, presumably 173 degrees. After news, 0014 Economy Report; 0023 song about Vietnam. 0028 dead air, 0028.5 WHR invites us to write to program and tell them ``it`s a blessing`` (not exactly what they were gunning for from Hanoi, but in bed with the super-Christians, what else?). 0029.5 WorldVision anti-hunger PSA. 0030 open VOV in Spanish. 0058 retune to hear WHR announcing that it is changing from 7315 to 9605, and OCS war-mongering crusader theme, but at 0059, 9605 is already on from other transmitter playing OCS too but separately, not synch! WHRI self-coördination is totally upscrewed. Before 0100 on 7315, he says ``now on 9605``! As before, 7315 really remains on the air at 0100 with VOV in English again, while 9605 starts up long-running KBS WR relay in Spanish. A third WHRI transmitter is doing its own thing on much stronger S9+40 7385 with USA radio network ``news`` toward us at 315 degrees.

WHR continues to insert its own propaganda during VOV breaks on 7315. At 0129 Sept 2: Voice of the Martyrs, 800-75-VOICE about blasphemy in Tanzania, and WorldVision anti-AIDS. (How amusing it would be if one of these happened to deal with human rights violations, Christian missionary persecution in Vietnam!)

There is a pause of about 9 seconds before VOV comes up at 0130+, like other breaks. Spanish again. At 0159, WHR ID and OCS, no frequency announcement, 0200.5 into USA `news` now // 9605 which is still running another hour.

Meanwhile neither 12005 nor 6175 is on at 0100 check from Woofferton, WHRI, or anywhere. Nor at 0121 nor at 0201. However, see PERU (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 594 kHz. Since it`s not INDIA, trying to locate the source of the carrier heard here even in the daytime: September 1 between 19 and 20 UT, I park a block away from 960 KGWA 4-tower transmitter site in NW Enid, but too much noise, probably overload, to hear it at all. Due east of KGWA, I can hear 594 and the DF is still about the same from NNW, so that rules out a KGWA spur. Also about the same DF from downtown Enid. This indicates it is some distance away, and could also be SSE rather than NNW, with this bi-direxional ferrite DFing on the portable DX-398. Will check further from other areas (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1309.70, Sept 2 at 0148 UT, JBA carrier hetting 1310 stations; another possible off-frequency to be pursued (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1520, Sept 2 at 0142 UT, KOKC`s stupid Savage talk show is getting heavy QRM from honky-tonk piano music, then C&W song. KOKC`s biggest rival at night is normally out-of-whack KOLM, Rochester, Minnesota, sportstalk, still such per its website. Could this be KYND, Cypress TX, which we normally hear around sunrise? Sked page is now here:
https://kyndradio.com/show-schedule/
showing `Urban Music on Air` from 6 pm to 6 am [23-05 UT] weekdays (lots but different hours on weekends) so that doesn`t fit either, unless they are talking about Urban Cowboys --- Houston market, after all. They have quite a mix of various talk shows and different kynds of music. BTW, it`s licensed as a 25 kW  direxional daytimer only (18 kW Critical Hours), but no doubt the webcast runs all-night. There is no longer a misleading coverage map linked from the homepage. KYND, last logged here June 16 at 1150 UT, had a slow SAH against KOKC, but this one makes a fast SAH. Hard to DF accurately vs KOKC, but seems about ESE/WNW. By 0209 UT, KOKC, which is 10 kW ND on STA (forever?) is in another offensive talkshow, Herman Cain, and dominating, but C&W music still audible under. NRC AM Log 2016-2017 shows several little mostly daytimers with C&W formats, in AL, IL, IN, MI, MI, MO, TX, WA. By DF the only one fitting would be WTLM Opelika AL, D1 1000/CH 650 watts. If the DF was way off, it could be KQQB Stockdale TX (just SE of San Antonio), D3 2500, but application for D3 25000/CH 23000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9515-USB, Sept 2 at 0114, weak 2-way intruder seems in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Propagation News – 4 September 2016

September 2, 2016

This week brought a glimpse of better things to come. Andy, M0NKR reports he worked VP6J Pitcairn Island on 12 metres and the maximum useable frequency was often above 21MHz earlier in the week. The downside was, as predicted, periods of unsettled geomagnetic conditions, with the K-index hitting four at times and even six on Friday. But, looking on the bright side, as we enter September we are now heading towards better autumnal HF conditions in the northern hemisphere. The ionosphere is starting to cool and there is a shift towards more monoatomic and fewer diatomic species in the F2 layer. These are easier to ionise so we should start to see maximum usable frequencies increase. But we really need calmer geomagnetic conditions too, so look out for lower K-indices for better propagation on the higher HF bands.

Next week may see the solar flux index increasing thanks to large sunspot group number 2585, which is rotating into position on the solar surface.

The US Air Force predicts the Solar Flux Index will be around 105 this weekend, tailing off to 70 by the end of the week. Geomagnetic conditions may be unsettled at the beginning of the week, but improving by next weekend.

The smoothed sunspot number for September, for use with VOACAP-based prediction programs, is 35.

VHF and up propagation:

This week’s weather will be largely dominated by high pressure, meaning that we’ll be getting a chance to try some VHF and UHF tropo. In fact, for much of the coming week high pressure will extend across much of Britain and, at times, there should be some good quality temperature inversions to cause ducting over quite long distances.

Remember, tropo is not a fleeting signal path like sporadic E, but can last for hours or even days, with some variability. It is often better at higher frequencies, so try the GHz bands and UHF first, then move down to VHF. The positioning of the high should allow contacts from the UK to Scandinavia and down across Biscay to Spain, as well as within the UK itself. This is a chance to test out your station. Don’t rely on a repeater to do the work for you, go simplex and try other modes like CW and SSB.

Moon declination is negative all this week, meaning shorter moon windows. Add this to the Moon’s apogee on Tuesday, bringing the highest losses, and EME opportunities will be more limited.

The Orionids meteor shower is spread over many months between late August and mid-November, so continue to look out for improved meteor scatter conditions this coming week.

Ivo Ivanov

QTH: Sofia, Bulgaria
Equipment: Sony ICF-2001D 30 m. long wire

Glenn Hauser logs August 31-September 1, 2016

** ARGENTINA. 11710.60, Sept 1 at 0329, RAE with extremely distorted, overmodulated music, during scheduled English hour. Very out of order, like heard more often when on 15344vv (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 5035, Aug 31 at 0610, weak broadcast signal, presumably R. Aparecida, not enough here nor on 11854.9 to make a match. 5035 never audible here earlier in evenings, altho blocked by 5040 Cuba; Aoki gives odd schedule of 05-03 UT. 5035 has another Brazilian, R. Educação Rural, Coari, which may or may not relay R. Rio Mar, Manaus; a report of that by Carlos Gonçalves, Portugal was never confirmed by ZY DXers (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 6180, Sept 1 at 0101, RNA is back on after missing for two nights, // 11780, hyperentusiasm likely about futebol rather than getting rid of Pres. Dilma? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COLOMBIA. 6010.160, Aug 31 at 0553, La Voz de tu Conciencia, first heard earlier in evening on 6010.17, remeasured now with music, but it varies audibly as a try to pin it.

5909.978, Aug 31 at 0556, Alcaraván Radio likewise remeasured, compared to 5909.95 earlier. No trace of possible leapfrog mixing products around 5810 or 6110 now that both frequencies are clear.

Buenos DX, Rafael R.``

6009.972, Sept 1 at 0358 presumed Voice of Thy Conscience; very weak until cut off at 0359*. Back on at *0401 with carrier, and then low modulation tropical music, remeasured as 6009.978. Last night it was on hi side of 6010. At 0408, I recognize ``When the Saints Go Marchin` In``, sung in English. Nothing audible around 5910, blocked by NHK France until 0500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1841, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11840, Sept 1 at 0328, RHC Spanish is S9+25 but very suptorted music on this frequency. Wiggle that patchcord! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CZECHIA [non]. 9955, Sept 1 at 0038, R. Prague via WRMI about the Prague Spring, Olympix --- I suppose this is during their 80-th anniversary special for Aug 31, for which a special QSL was offered, but publicity for it never mentioned the fact that RP is on SW via WRMI, just some special Aug-31-only frequencies via Armenia for Europe.

Nor does RP website, tho it does mention outdated WRMI relay times:
The broadcasts for North America are available at
``02:00 UTC (Monday - Friday, Sunday)
10:00 UTC (Monday - Friday)
12:00 UTC (Monday - Saturday) [this one is still correct]
on the frequency 9955 kHz`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GERMANY. 9530, Sept 1 at 0321, weak music not // 4765, so not the R. Progreso harmonic this time. Instead, as scheduled 0300-0330 only, AWR in Tigrigna via Nauen (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9560, Sept 1 at 0322, S9-35 bigsig in African language, I figure must be Greenville, but it`s really 0315-0400 NHK Swahili via Talata, 250 kW, 320 degrees onward to North America. Sounded sorta Swahili, but with an accent? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENINIG DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9480, Sept 1 at 0404, no signal from MWV, still off the air, as it would be a bigsig like 9560 NHK relay earlier. Other APR broadcast is also still AWOL from 17640 at 1825 Sept 1 check. I ask again, is anyone hearing the other 18 UT broadcast on 9570 in Russian? Last report I`ve found of it was by Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, on August 5. Are any MWV scheduled broadcasts being heard? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 7425, Sept 1 at 1253, RNZI is fair at S5-S7 on PNG beam, new frequency, ex-7245 since Aug 27 per website, but first I`ve noted it. I suspect my report of 7245 QRMing US Navy ham net before 1300 may have prompted the change [see USA]; if so, tnx. RNZI now in the clear. 7425 scheduled 0659-1058 on Pacific beam, 1059-1258 toward PNG (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. Re: ``5980, Aug 31 at 0056, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, but already off at 0104 retune in preparation for cutoff which if had not been reset earlier, would have happened about 0105:53.5* per standard slippage rate. Or it could be an anomaly``

It may well have been an anomaly. On the condiglista, Alfredo Cañote in Lima points out that Aug 30 was a holiday causing some other radio stations to go off the air: ``hoy es feriado en El Perú, día de Santa Rosa de Lima. No transmiten en MW: 880 Unión, 930 Moderna, 1590 Vida``

Didn`t get to recheck whether Chaski resumed recession as before on UT Sept 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 15450, Aug 31 at 1919, receiver is still tuned here after TURKEY [q.v.] monitoring earlier, now fair signal in Spanish, soon obviously RRI; I leave it on for my nap as there are classical music breaks, including from Die Walküre toward end of hour, hardly dozeworthy. Announced // 17800 not really audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** TURKEY. 15450.014, Aug 31 at 1324, TRT IS is running following English broadcast, off-frequency+plus as usual, poor signal with heavy flutter. And it keeps on going, interrupted at 1328, by IDs in unknown language, as customary when another service is about to begin. *Still* here at 1330.0 with accurate 5+1 timesignal, opening and presumed news until finally cut off at 1337:18.5*. Should be Kazakh, which is supposed to be on 11880 from 1330. Yet another foulup by the sloppyrators at Emirler. I`ll bet no one in charge at Ankara or Istanbul monitors this happening again and again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** U A E.  9410.08, Sept 1 at 0319, S6 signal from something. HFCC shows BBC Arabic via Dhabbaya at 03-04; of course: they can`t get their frequencies right on. Another hour at 04-05 is via Woofferton, where they can. I wouldn`t be surprised if BBC pull out of UAE relays. Remember when 9410 was a reliable 24/7 BBCWS in English frequency, mostly from UK only? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7245.0-LSB, Thu Sept 1 at 1253, US Navy ham net with lots of friendly informal chat, including regular K9YX; finally seems finished at 1310, having started at 1200. I mentioned on WOR 1841 that this was on Wednesdays only and perhaps RNZI moved to 7425 to end the clash; but it`s the net following at 1300, Tin Can Sailors, that is Weds only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1840 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday August 31 at 2100 on WBCQ webcast, presumably 7490. Also confirmed Wed Aug 31 at 2348 during 2330 airing on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB, fair.

Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE

** U S A. 11580, Sept 1 at 0330, WRMIBS missing from this frequency while still on stronger 11530; 0418 recheck, 11580 is back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Correxion: second time reference should have read 0100 instead of 0000; repaired: 9475-, Aug 31 at 0058, WTWW-1 is S9+50 of dead air; 0100 alive with canned ID and back to SFAW. At 0207, 9475 is off and 5830 is not on, yet? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, as it`s almost UT September 1, I`m tuned at 2359 UT Aug 31 for Voice of Vietnam on new WHRI relay frequency: WHRI is on with own ID, and sure enough, 0000 UT Sept 1 opening VOV in English, S9+20 but fadey. Further chex: at 0036 it`s VOV in Spanish, something else new; at 0100 more VOV in English; at 0154 VOV in Spanish which would have started at 0130. It seems VOV does not announce its frequencies in either language at opening or closing.

At 0158, 7315 switches to LeSEA music, AIDS promo by WorldVision, 0159 WHRI OCS theme and ID, 0200 into slanted network news (USA?) in English, and now it`s // 9605, which WHRI is still leaving on after the 01-02 KBS WR Spanish relay. Recheck at 0258, 7315 with WHR in Spanish, English ID; 0300 clueless canned announcer says on 7315 ``now broadcasting on 6175``, and more USA R Network ``news``.

6175??? Well, I am checking this too all evening and it is not on now, nor was it ever on earlier. At 0317, 7315 is still on with praise music, like but not // WHRI 7385, and still no 6175.

All this was prompted by a new ``effective September 1`` English schedule from VOV forwarded by Richard Lemke, Alberta, but not retracting the imaginary ``August`` schedule we soon debunked by real monitoring. Significant portion of it concerning North America, in sic disorder without sites specified, UT:

Eastern America             1:00 6175 khz
Eastern America             2:30 6175 khz
Central America - Caribbean 2:30 7315 khz
Central America - Caribbean 0:00 7315 khz

I reported: ``7315, never used by VOV before, will surely be WHRI, but will 6175 still be WOF? Probably. Evidently the 0330 broadcast is gone, with two frequencies (and two sites?) at 0230 instead. And a new earlier one at 0000``.

But this is also WRONG, at least not right, YET! As per my axual monitoring above, 7315 *is on* with VOV, English at 0000 & 0100, but at 0130 & 0230 it`s in Spanish. And 6175 is not on at all from anywhere!

12005, not detected earlier, but at 0205 UT September 1, JBA carrier, so seems as if Woofferton UK relay is still active, but high time for it to QSY to 6175. Maybe by the next night?

The current WHR program schedule is also wrong: for Angel 1:
Shows LeSEA programming on 7315 at 00-01, KBS on 9605 at 01-02, and VOV on 6175 at 0300-0430 --- NOT! And nothing relevant on the Angels 2 and 6 schedules.

I can`t find any SW schedule on VOV`s Spanish page
where you would never know it is even on SW. Those used to be at 0300-0330 & 0400-0430 on WHRI 6175. Also not clear if and when there will still be a Vietnamese language relay to North America; had been 0130-0230 on 12005 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505v, Sept 1 at 0318 check, WRNO is still/again OFF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 594, after receiving a carrier from the north Aug 29 at 1146 UT, which fit for the megawatt from Kolkata along the grayline, on Aug 31 I`m up early to start monitoring at 1130, a semi-hour before local sunrise: today there are no `regular` TP carriers like 774 Japan or Australia, but 594 is back! It`s right on 594.0 as I calibrate the DX-398 USB offset clix against 540.0 XETX.

This is a very steady but weak signal, far too little to pull any audio. If only they would/could cut carrier for a ``CW`` ID test. Repeated DFing puts it slightly CCW from due north, about 355, which is exactly the direxion of Kolkata. I`m expecting it to be fading out by 1230 --- but it doesn`t. In fact still there at ``full`` strength by 1300, 1337, 1420 --- and in full daytime.

Unless it`s groundwave (hi hi), can`t be Kolkata, but something much closer. Occurs to me that my local 960 KGWA is about the same angle from here, could be spur from it? I walk around the block and find the same signal and angle, so it`s not from within the household. I`ll be driving around Enid to see if it`s stronger near KGWA site and if the DF change significantly. -366 kHz would be an odd spur, and there is nothing at +366 kHz = 1326.

I conveyed the disappointing news to IRCA group et al., where several stories came in of other cases involving inexplicable carriers on 9-kHz bandplan frequencies which did not/could not turn out to be real DX, and will put them in DXLD.

There 594 is again, Sept 1 around 1250 UT. Another reason India was unlikely, from Sudipta Ghose, VU2UT: ``The 3 x 400 kW transmitter of AIR Maitri uses directional antenna pointed towards East. The configuration is generally 2 x 350 kW using a combiner. In very favourable situation it is likely to propagate to Pacific as my fertile brain imagines``.

Another idea: harmonic from a longwave beacon? Bill Hepburn`s list shows the only one on 297 kHz is NH from Nouakchott, Mauritania. How about 198 kHz x 3? Only North Carolina, and China. Ken Zichi of MARE logged a DGPS in Bobo, Mississippi on 297. And nothing audible here on either LW frequency at 1825 Sept 1 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1499.17, Aug 31 at 0603 UT, JBA carrier is still here from some 1500 off-frequency? No replies seen to my previous inquiry (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11893.0, Sept 1 at 0327, JBA carrier, I have also detected before on the NRD-545; probably a birdie unless someone elsewhere hear it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11930, Sept 1 at 0327, only S6 on meter, but huge whining noise made up of multiple closely-spaced carriers beating against each other, rather like we used to hear on 17450. A Cuban radio war frequency, of course, and bits of pulse jamming can be detected around the edges, despite it being a daytime-only frequency for Radio Martí. Still the same at 0400. So is this something secret out of Cuba, or Greenville? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 22 - 28 August 2016

Solar activity was at very low levels the majority of the period
with low levels reached on 28 August due to an isolated C1/Sf flare
at 28/2128 UTC from Region 2583 (N13, L=023, class/area Dao/030 on
28 Aug). Regions 2579 (N12, L=034, class/area Dao/090 on 23 Aug) and
2581 (N12, L=337, class/area Cao/110 on 28 Aug) were the largest
spot groups on the visible disk, but were in a decay phase as of 24
and 28 August, respectively. No Earth-directed coronal mass
ejections were observed during the period.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at
normal levels on 22 August, moderate levels on 23-24 August, and
high levels from 25-28 August. The maximum flux reached 2,334 pfu at
27/1705 UTC.

Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to G1-minor storm
levels during the period. The beginning of the period, solar wind
conditions were nominal with solar wind speeds between 350 km/s and
420 km/s. The geomagnetic field was at quiet levels on 22 August. By
23 August, total field increased to around 14 nT with the solar wind
speed increasing to around 550 km/s as a negative polarity coronal
hole high speed stream (CH HSS) moved into geoeffective position. By
midday on 24 August, total field had decreased to near 5 nT, however
solar wind speeds remained elevated until late on 25 August when
they began to decline. The geomagnetic field responded with quiet to
G1-minor storm levels on 23-24 August, followed by quiet to
unsettled conditions on 25-27 August. Quiet conditions were observed
on 28 August under a nominal solar wind environment.

FORECAST OF SOLAR AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY 29 AUGUST-24 SEPTEMBER 2016

Solar activity is expected to be at very low to low levels
throughout the period.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to be at normal to moderate levels with high levels
expected on 31 August-12 September and again from 21-24 September
due to recurrent CH HSS activity.

Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at unsettled to active
levels on 29 August-08 September, 13-14 September, 17 September, and
19-21 September with G1-minor storm levels likely on 29-30 August
due to recurrent CH HSS activity.
