Glenn Hauser logs January +22-23-24, 2020

** ARGENTINA [non]. 5800, Jan 23 at 0100, RAE AAM, via WRMI runs OK; 0126 rock music but it`s Spanish and still RAE with 0130 multi-lingual IDs, then conversation with an Argentine who went to Thailand.

Next night, UT Jan 24 I am listening to the second half to assure it air intact; seems so: 0129 talk about the FSLN; 0130 multi-lingual ID, then `Géneros y Diversidad` about sexism in sports; 0147 multi-ID again, chat about 23 de enero being some national day; 0151 headlines and ``Piano Man`` --- no sign-off heard, but this music may have been filler from WRMI; another song until 0159 WRMI ID and off at 0200* sharp.

9395, then should follow RAE ATTW in English, but it`s a JBA carrier as often the case after dark, altho sometimes recovers later at night when TOMBS is on. How about putting RAE English on reliably propagable 5800 instead --- plus Tirana at 0230? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL [non]. 6090, Jan 23 at 2350, a weak signal here presumed Iran in Spanish as scheduled; *2356 open carrier from ANGUILLA making a fast SAH atop the other, and shortly after 0000 Jan 24, join Dead Gene Scott in progress, without a sign-on, let alone an ID, which *never* come out of what is listed as The Caribbean Beacon. By then it sounds like Qur`an and ME music underneath.

I`m checking this because someone has just reported hearing Rádio Bandeirantes on 6090 last night, ``at 0120 in Portuguese with an excited male preacher``. That station has been gone from SW for over a year, thought to be forever. 6090 and its other frequency 9645 were deleted from WRTH 2019 already and still absent in 2020. Yet it survives on the Aoki list, which is full of defunct Latin American stations, leading some to expect still to hear them. And this mis-info is likely copied into other SW schedule aggregators.

All I ever get on 6090 evenings when Anguilla is absent (most of them), is Iran in Spanish which is scheduled all the way from 2350 to 0250. Tonight I am hearing two stations, not three, but check on a non-Anguilla night just to be absolutely sure. If you can`t get an Iran ID or tell Spanish from Portuguese, maybe catch the odd closing time of 0250?

It should be noted that last February, a ``Radio Livre Bandeirantes`` was reported from Brasil on 6090, an unrelated low-power pirate. If still active, hearing it here vs Anguilla and/or Iran is extremely unlikely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 9666.553V, Jan 24 at 0043, Voz Missionária is S7-S9 in Brazuguese preaching as it continues to wander back down toward nominal 9665, after last caught Jan 19 way up on 9667.478. As I listen it is slightly unstable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 406-MCW kHz, Jan 23 at 0711 UT, dash and YLJ ND beacon, which is 40 watts from Meadow Lake, Sask., and the only one listed on this frequency, a clear-channel! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Time and date were omitted from this item; added:

13568, 13634, 13767, 13834, 13901, 13967, 14033, 14100-trace, approx., 1527 UT Jan 19, spurblobs out of RHC 13700, readable both in FM and AM but not SSB, and with the F# tone in FM, progressively weaker toward the outskirts where only the tone may giveaway. Now intruding into 20m hamband where maybe some of them will notice and complain; to CO2KK? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6099.6 & 6100.4 approx., Jan 23 at 0657, RHC English S9+40 on mushy 6100 plus squealspurs about 400 Hz above and below. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13906, 13838, 13769, 13631, 13562, 13493, 13423, Jan 23 at 1519, FM>AM spurblobs out of RHC 13700, weaker and weaker toward the outskirts, approx 69 kHz intervals. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 23 at 1819, RHC in Portuguese? Distorted and overmodulated; then announcer in real Spanish. May have been a clip from a Brazilian trying to speak Spanish = Espanhuguês. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 9545, Jan 23 at 0450, JBA carrier, presumed SIBC since it cut off at 0500:07*; doubt I will ever get more than this from it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Jan 24 at 0216+ UT, I quickly scan the entire MW band, and hear not a single station broadcasting live coverage of something rather important in the US Senate! Not even talk stations whose format would be disrupted the least, but most of them are secretly if not overtly controlled by the Far Right, as obvious from their entire daily schedules. And golly, how are you going to fit in 20+ minutes of commercials an hour? Somehow, major cable TV networks manage to do it. But radio listeners should also be able to hear the Trump Trial.

How about FM, public radio? KOSU has been airing from NPR the first parts in the afternoons, but not in evening prime-time, still owned by sub-station The Spy with OK/indie music, far too vital to pre-empt. So The Spy wags the rest of KOSU.

I also know better than even bother to check US SW stations --- No public service sentiment there! Just leave Brother Scare all over the dial (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Just noticed a typo 12 days later to this report before anyone else bring it to my attention. In the frequency list should read 1017, not 2017 kHz; fixed:

Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search Jan 12 at 0006-0013 UT: 531* strongest; 558(2), 576, 585, 639, 657, 693(2), 711, 729, 738, 774(2), 801, 819, 837, 855, 882, 891, 909, 936(2), 999, 1008, 1017, 1044, 1089, 1098, 1107(2), 1125(2), 1152, 1179, 1215(2), 1296, 1305(2), 1422, 1485, 1539 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
