ENID, Okla. — One person was killed when a crop duster crashed Tuesday morning near Enid, Oklahoma, officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed.
According to the OHP, troopers received reports just after 7 a.m. of a crop dusting plane that had crashed near State Highway 45 and Garland Road, about one mile north of Enid city limits in Garfield County.
Officials confirmed that the plane was owned by Deterding Aerial Spraying. The plane was occupied by one person, the pilot, who is killed. He is identified as 52-year-old Rodney Sherry from Olton, Texas.

ENID, Okla. - Authorities have released more information related to the crash of a crop duster near Enid.
Around 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday, officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol learned a crop dusting plane had crashed near Hwy 45 and Garland Rd., about a mile north of Enid.
Officials said the plane, which was owned by Deterding Aerial Spraying, crashed into the ground after it hit a guideline [sic] wire.
OHP confirmed to KFOR that the pilot of the plane was the only occupant and he died in the crash.
The pilot has since been identified as 52-year-old Rodney Sherry from Olton, Texas.
Pete Buss and his brother, Mitchell Buss, were nearby building a house when the incident happened.
"He was in really bad shape. I didn't think there was much we could do for him. We couldn't get him out. We didn't have the equipment to get him out of the cockpit or anything," Pete said. "When he hit the cable, I guess it released his bug spray or whatever. There was a big cloud and then, when he hit the ground, there was a big ball of dust."
Even those who did not know Sherry are shaken by his loss.
"Kind of makes you think about who you care about. Let them know. We're not here forever," Mitchell said.
"I've lost family members in tragic situations and just, hang on to God and believe He's there for you," Pete said.
This is the second fatal crop duster crash within the past month.

ENID, Oklahoma - A man is dead after the crop duster he was flying crashed into a field just north of Enid Tuesday morning. The accident is now being investigated by state and federal agencies.
The plane went down in a field near Highway 45 and Garland Road. State troopers say Rodney Sherry, 52, was flying over the field around 7:10 a.m. when he clipped the top of a radio tower, in a tragically similar fashion to a plane crash just last month.

Sherry, a Texas native, had been working for Deterding Aerial Spraying out of Pond Creek, Oklahoma. The owner of the plane is Jim Deterding, whose brother Andrew Deterding was piloting a crop duster for another company when he was killed after striking a radio tower at the end of May.
"It is a tragic situation and our hearts go out for that company and the families," said OHP Trooper Darrin Lancaster.
The Department of Agriculture is now working to make sure there is no lasting contamination from the chemicals the plane was carrying, as the FAA and NTSB try to piece together what led to Sherry striking the tower and its guywires.
Troopers say safety measures were in place, however.
"From my understanding, there was a flashing light at the very top," said Lancaster, "and of course it’s not there now due to the accident and part of the tower that’s been taken down."
The radio tower, owned by American Tower, is not a new installation, but neighbors do report a number of new smaller mesonet towers going up recently. Troopers urge low-flying pilots to use caution to avoid another tragedy.
"We’ve always got to be aware of what we’re doing and be as careful as we can be," Lancaster said.
The Deterdings are asking for the public’s prayers during this difficult time, but are not yet ready to provide additional comment (via gh, DXLD)
I quickly FM bandscan that morning but do not find any local signals, including translators or LPFM, missing; other than the ones already off the air, 92.1 and 93.1. So apparently it was not a broadcast tower, but not positive about that. It is near but not the KAMG-LP 92.1 location.
Visibility seemed to be OK as of a few hours later. Even if one cannot see the guy! wires, one should know they have to be there near a radio tower. Another report I saw somewhere said the pilot was nicknamed ``hot-shot``. Around midday June 20 we drove out to the area around State Hwy 45 and Garland Road, but could not find the crash scene in any direxion from there, let alone the stub of a radio tower. Minor level 1 or 2 tropo around central Oklahoma visiblizes RF 42, KBZC-LD OKC, June 20 at 1430 UT, signal bar way into the Good range, with all 7 subchannels decoding perfectly for a few more minutes. And all of them are PSIP labeled the same KBZC-LD. The top three are home shopping crap.
RF 48, KOCY-LD, the last remaining analog around here, should also be snowily/confettily visible under such conditions, but no sign of it. May finally be off permanently, or temporarily as frequently before. Or the tropo duct is extremely localized, propagating one OKC low-power and not another?
