** MEXICO. Another sporadic E analog TV DX opening Sunday May 17
into UT May 18, all times UT, C-490 antenna aimed about 175 degrees:
1954
on 2, fade/in Spanish mentioning the year 1961 and `Fórmula Uno`; not a line on
the 6m Es map; another brief fade-in at 2003.
2222 on 2, fade/in CCI
including +v logo on full screen = Más Visión XEWO-TV Guadalajara; also f
(Televisa-4 net) bug in LR, maybe different station. One of the stations with
fútbol game, with a red-bordered text bug partly off-screen in UR corner, surely
TELEACTIVA = XEFB-TV Monterrey.
2242 on 2, +v Más Visión ID again and
full screen notice: ``Este canal puede verlo en Canal Digital 26``, so for now
simulcast, but boding ill for the DXer a kilomile away. Then promo for an
apparent student quiz show. 2243 back to silly ballgame, surges and fades.
References by narrator to ``el chileno``, presumably a well-known
player.
2255 on 2, during soccer game, tiny oval bug in LR, probably
generic TELEVISA for deportes.
2310 on 3, MUF up a bit, with a different
fútbol game
2325 on 3, still FB game, little QRM, while 2 has
CCI
2337 on 2, still f bug in LR, not a game; but CCI
2340 on 2 //
3, same game now, mentions Copa América; star bug in UR, Televisa net
2
2350 on 3, promo for Televisa Deportes on both canales 2 y 5; game here
surges to snow-free, net-2 star in UR
2354 on 4, fade-in video only,
closeups of YLs in conversation, one captioned as Ruth de Gells (?),
documentary? A text bug in UR is mostly off-screen on both sets
UT May
18:
0029 on 2, still heavy CCI; and on 3 some signal; 0030 algo on
4
0049 on 2, CCI including SBG
0051 on 3, game coverage mentions
Guadalajara (tho this channel itself would not be direct from there)
0134
on 2, docu film caption says San Quintín, Baja California
0150 on 2, docu
maybe about drug war, mentions Nayarit, etc.
0214 on 3, still
fútbol
0229 on 2, still soccer
0254 on 2, studio variety show from
Televisa; mostly gone after 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

** OKLAHOMA. 1120, May 17 at 2100 UT check, KEOR/KETU is still
off. Also off May 18 at 1835 UT (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1610, May 18 at 1852 UT on caradio at a quiet
location in western Enid, NWS synthetic YL is barely audible including Wichita
conditions, so it`s the Great Salt Plains State Park/NWR TIS, northwest of Enid,
WQCL720, which AFAIK does nothing but relay NOAA Weather Radio, a default banned
by the FCC as recently reaffirmed; and which provides a great public service, as
who has a 162 MHz radio in their dashboard? See also USA bandscan, 530 from KS
with Wichita too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA.
2899.75 approx., May 18 at 0552 tune-in, ``AM Stereo 1450, KWHW and 93.5,
together loving our country`` --- one of a large variety of canned slogan IDs
all voiced by same YL, never mentioning 2900! and into music. Good and steady
signal, S9+20 on the FRG-7 with E-W longwire, best heard yet and not much storm
noise now.
Altus harmonic is still radiating for the fifth day. If one
did not know better, could easily be taken for an intentional `SW` broadcast,
far outstripping the JBA signal sometimes on 2660 from KGLD Tyler TX. Still not
a trace of a carrier on what would be the fundamental on the low side of 1450,
night or day. So would the AM stereo decode on 2900v? Not listed on 1450 as $ in
NRC AM Log. Why doesn`t she say their FM is stereo too, as it surely must be?
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 104.5, May 18 at
1931 UT, bandscan on caradio in western Enid finds new signal (to me) here,
stereo pilot on but not strong enough to break into it audibly, and not very
hi-fi, playing slow hymn with multiple verses, ``Softly & Tenderly``; wonder
if it could be an RF feeder from a nearby car in parking lot, but no peak as I
walk around with an eye on the PL-880 signal meter. Signal gets Doppler flutters
from Vance jets overflying, so it`s propagating from afar.
1935 segué to
another; 1940 ``we are the station bringing hymn?-balance to your heart``, into
some classical music. But soon back to gospel/hymns.
Next I need to drive
eastward in Enid, but losing the signal by downtown. At home, from my
second-floor monitoring post, waving the whip around, at 2050 UT May 18 I get a
bit of another cute slogan ``Your station playing only Him-balanced [?] music
---`` but still no real ID. (At 2052 UT, KRXO ID makes it thru, i.e. the OKC
250-watt translator K283BW to which Classic Rock KRXO 107.7 has been demoted).
Finally at 2101 UT May 18 on the DX-398 with antenna vertical I retain a
weak signal, ``You`re listening to hymnbalancedradio.com [?] and KZBU[?] FM
Mooreland``, 2103 into USA Radio ``news``.
So this is really KZZW in
Mooreland OK, little town just east of Woodward, as listed by WTFDA with 62/62
kW and 366/366 meters, format as CHR, which certainly is not the case now. Only
from
do
we get the proper slogan and website:
KZZW-FM 104.5 MHz
Mooreland,
Oklahoma
"In-balance Radio"
Station Format: Classical
Website:
So I
gave them too much cuteness credit for ``Him- or Hymn-balanced``.
I have a
feeling this doesn`t originate in Mooreland or even Woodward.
I wonder
how long KZZW has been on the air, but such basic info is not easily found at
FCC FM Query. I do find that the original licensee, Brooke Williams Trissel,
changed her name last year following a divorce from Matthew Wayne Trisell, in
Williamson County TX, to Brooke Deann Williams, of Irving TX.
And the
classical is only incidental to the Christian. Info at radio-locator shows
original power was 250 watts, license granted March 30, 2012, but CP for ``62 kW
may now be on air``, and that was to expire on April 15, 2015. I`d say, it is on
air, yes indeed. Probably just made it. Predicted coverage map shows fringe
contour reaching into our western Garfield County from site SSW of Woodward in
its county (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

11645, May 18 at 0543, R. Dabanga, fair

** THAILAND. 9390, May 18 at 1217, tone test, open carrier and

MW bandscan on caradio from a quiet location outside Oakwood Mall in western
Enid, amid storm crashes every two or three seconds, groundwave is good,
includes: Local mean noon is always 1832 UT:
530, May 18 at 1836 UT, NWS,
NOAA Weather Radio, very poor, barely audible, but do make out ``Wichita 1-pm
conditions``, so it`s one of the Kansas Turnpike outlets, probably the closest
one near South Haven, which under ideal conditions reaches Enid. (``K530AM``
Vance AFB remains kaput). 1610, another NWS relay; see OKLAHOMA
550, May
18 at 1837 UT, KFRM Salina KS bigsig has some talk CCI underneath making SAH of
~6 Hz. Must be 5/1 kW newstalk format from KCRS Midland TX (address in Odessa).
Day pattern is not unfavorable this way, but a notch at night. KCRS would
certainly be readable if KFRM were not in the way. 624 km, 388 stmi, city to
city
580, May 18 at 1838 UT, WIBW Wichita KS talker clearly has C&W
music underneath, slow SAH of 1.4 Hz. This is certainly Lubbock TX, 500-watt
KRFE, however listed as AC format in NRC AM Log. Advantage of great ground
conductivity (and all the rain lately may have helped), and low frequency,
despite direxional pattern westward, assuming it`s in whack
630, May 18
at 1839 UT, talk station, in heavy splash, but no IBOC, from KWPN Moore OK 640.
Presumably KHOW Denver, as 670 is normal
670, May 18 at 1840 UT, gospel
huxter quite readable in English, no QRM from WSCR Chicago, so it`s KLTT
Commerce City (Denver market) CO
790, May 18 at 1841 UT, singing ad and
``K-triple-X`` ID from Colby KS, with KFYO Lubbock TX underneath. Always splash
from 800 KQCV OKC, without which this would be listenable
850, May 18 at
1842 UT, hymn in Spanish fades up and down mostly surpassing remnant of KOA
Denver, i.e. 5 kW KJON Carrollton TX (Dallas market)
870, May 18 at 1843
UT, ad for Express selling Tranes, no area code but 263-0442, then ad for a
solar system, and fadeout after making SAH of about 6 Hz with another station,
probably KFJZ Fort Worth in Vietnamese. Can it be WWL? Not much else on 870
around here. Yes!! It all matches up here: http://www.expressheatandac.com/
New Orleans city to city Enid distance: 1021 km = 645 statute miles --- at hi
noon
Quick scan of higher band found not much of interest (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1020, May 18 at 0621 UT, Spanish
preacher at least equal level with nearby KOKP Perry OK, which I almost null, as
the two make a SAH of 3.6 Hz; 0630 UT outro program as ``La Voz de la
Salvación`` with an address in Florida and partial phone 800-8432. 0631 UT ID as
``Radio Visión Cristiana, la emisora de ----``, another partial phone as
811-11-30, and time check for 2:32, into music.
So this is RVC`s 1020
station, KCKN Roswell NM, taking live feed from EDT zone flagship in NYC, WWRV
1330. Now they`ve fixed the frequency after big audible het KCKN had been
causing, and also seem to have powered up from longtime QRP STA, and/or overcome
pattern null toward KDKA and us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
